GenesisEverything has an origin story. Some mired in darkness, others mired in light. Betrayal, truth, rage, loss. Every being in the universe began their tale with something. But not everything is of this universe. The Dracus, a virulent, parasitic lifeform discovered centuries ago. Harvested from a long dead world beyond the unknown regions, it came to this galaxy. As a gift or a curse, no one knows. Though many have tried to harness it, just as many have failed. The fate of such a thing is already known. Bred and grown in a lab to be weaponized. But it didn't start out that way...

Space. Unknown location, unknown time. Assumed to be beyond the Unknown Regions.
Cold, empty, void of all life and yet full of billions upon billions of living creatures. A galaxy fond of its struggles. As fate would have it, a new life form was on its way. One that would go down in history as nearly unstoppable...*
*A derelict colony ship was adrift on the furthest fringes of space. No hint of life. No running lights. No detectable means of propulsion. Aside from an S.O.S beacon, nothing. The ship was running on low on reserve system power. Just enough life within the ship's systems to equal a pulse. Nothing more. As this ship continued to drift, another ship exited hyperspace. This ship was full of life. Ten fully armed human marines. Six bridge crew and four technical support staff. Twenty humans total. Sent to track down and investigate the colony ship's beacon. If scanned, it would be identified at the 'Oath', a small recon and rapid response support ship. Where it comes from, it was used primarily in ship to ship boarding raids by the military, though it was highly sought after by pirates and smugglers due to its size, speed and maneuverability. An ideal choice to investigate something so trivial as the sudden silence from a colony class vessel. Standard protocol was for a colony ship to maintain constant contact with the world it shipped out from until it reached its destination. This colony ship, however, never made it to its intended destination.
The Captain of the ship, an elderly male in his late sixties by the name of Alfred Mathias, issues orders to the bridge crew.
"We're coming in blind. Stay tight on our exit vector."
The small, angular vessel slowed right down as it decelerated from hyperspace. Alfred, watching the central viewport with his eyes, was keenly listening to any sort of noise coming from the multiple displays and consoles around him. Not a thing. Mathias raised an eyebrow as a Lieutenant spoke up.
"All systems are green. Scans inconclusive...I've never heard of a total blackout on one of these things..."
Mathias sighed, but spoke. He knew something was off as well, but he was more reserved about sharing his opinion with his crew.
"That's why we are here, El-Tee. Government wants to make sure their future taxpayers are alright. Hail hangar control. Let's see if we can establish what has happened."
The small, slender framed brunette monitoring the communication channels donned her headset as she began carrying out the Captain's orders.
"Attention, Harbinger, this is colonial scouting vessel Oath, do you copy? Harbinger, this is Oath, respond."
After a few moments of baited silence, a garbled response came through. Though it was incomprehensible. Just static and a lot of what sounded like gurgling and guttural groans. Mathias frowned. But one of the technical repair staff that happened to be on the bridge, spoke up.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say they've got a busted emitter relay..."
Mathias spoke to her, without averting his attention from everything else.
"I don't recall inviting you on to the bridge, Ms. Bridges."
Alison smiled, tossing her hair back over her shoulder as she walked past the Captain's chair.
"That's cuz you didn't. But, now we have a general idea as to why they haven't contacted anyone in weeks. A broken emitter relay would prevent them from making long distance phone calls..."
She spun around and flashed the Captain a coy grin. He stared at her for a few seconds, then returned to focusing on the central viewport.
"Ms. Bridges, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the bridge."
As Alison sighed and walked off, pouting. Mathias issued the next set of orders.
"Lieutenant, take us in. Ensign, inform Sergeant Edwards that we may be expecting trouble."
Mathias received two 'Aye sirs' from the Lieutenant and Ensign and the ship altered it's current vector and approached the dark colony ship...
