Description:
The Maxima A-class Heavy Cruiser is among the ranks of the First Order Navy as a newer class of warship, specifically the dual role of cruiser and carrier. Unlike the Imperial Navy of the Old Empire, which neglected the presence of starfighter carriers in favor of strong and powerful frontline warships, the First Order understood the necessity of starfighters, and a heavier presence, within their naval compositions and the value of their pilots. This would lead to newer TIE models, the expanded hangar space of the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer, and ships like the Maxima A-class Heavy Cruiser. It is reminiscent of the older Victory-class and the Gladiator-class Star Destroyers of the Old Empire with the capacity that almost could rival a Venator, the precursor of the Imperial Star Destroyers and future warships of that line.
Though a carrier in its nature, the heavy cruiser still holds a powerful arsenal of weapons. In total, it sports 25 heavy turbolaser batteries, 20 light turbolaser cannons, 20 point defense laser cannons, 10 point defense ion cannons, 4 proton torpedo launchers, and 4 tractor beam projectors. While it has no capacity for troopers, the cruiser can carry up to 216 TIE starfighters (up to 18 squadrons in total).
