Coming to really did not apply in this situation. Having a searing cup of coffee poured on your face was more fitting. He thought:~Who was it that told me 'violence doesn't pay? Mom?~He never fully understood that one.... What he could now appreciate was the effects of senseless violence. How he must have made so many suffer pointlessly over the course of a short meaningless life. Shrugging he tried to settle into his heavenly afterlife home

Passing over into Chaos a Cloud of pure unbridled Darkness seemed to envelop them all. A great storm of Hatred swirled around attempting to tear them apart then engulf them all. The laughter of those Greats who had Allured, Coerced then Directed collided with the tortured harrowing Wails of their Legion of Lost Souls whom had Listened, Surrendered then Followed. Instinctively Boland drew a handgun from his side as he cut gracefully in front of Morrígu and the little girl. Maureen saw the gun and started but fast understood his intentions and eased. Morrígu walked confidently. Feeling the girl’s fright holding firm to the hand she spoke in an assuring tone
-Morrígu-
“He’s guarding us honey….”
Then she mumbled
-Morrígu-
“An Eternity in this place?”
Their Passage through this the Land of the Dark was gracefully short as they followed The Raven

The blast was extraordinary. Losing all bearing he was sucked into a void. Whirling and whirling the Old man came to in a Dark mass of energy. He spoke -An Tiana- “What is ths!?!” An eerie voice responded -Ghoul- “This the Otherworld friend…. Welocome.” An Tiarna quickly came back -An Tiarna- “You’re telling me that I am to rot for an eternity???” Rolling on before the Spirit has a chance to speak -An Tiarna- “So… the Supreme Being believes in Its Infinite Wisdom that this is where I am to stand As in life the Old man was far too cantankerous, stubborn and willful to be held in this Reality. He slipped away and was pulled in another direction

The energies that ravaged this place were like an eternal sandstorm, shredding away at all who found themselves wandering through the bowels of Chaos. It did not discriminate nor care of their stories. Only that the dark side had consumed them in their short life, so they would suffer in the rest of life, better known as death.
Mariah commonly questioned if it wasn't the Sith's unquenchable thirst for power that drove them to seek eternal life, but instead a hidden, well-rooted fear of this place for the remainder of their coveted eternal life. Perhaps it was both. A thought for another time. Mariah had somehow managed to dragged along one who did not belong here: a Jedi. Even her time here would be short, if she didn’t want her hold on mortality shredded away and forced to remain for the rest of her days. You will find her here, Jedi. Call out her name. See if she answers, or if you have sacrificed yourself for nothing. The ferry-woman who ushered in Jair Crawford issued that command, her voice clear within Chaos’ essences. Although she was nowhere to be found, her presence lingered near, where she could simply observe and watch. Enduring the hell of this place was well worth what she believed would unfold.

*This post and the post above by Mariah Shadows are a continuation from here: boards.jedivsith.com/thread/374/niango?page=7Jair was dragged into Chaos so quickly, that he didn’t even have time to get used to the otherworldly feeling of not having to breathe. Even so, everything seemed to transpire in slow motion. The surrounding ether was thick with the darkest of darkness. Yet the Jedi was surprised. He thought that Chaos would seem more, well, chaotic than this. He called out her name, and heard his voice echoing in the vast expanse, yet he did not feel any sensation. Aria! ...The name echoed out into the beyond and for a brief moment there was silence, but then, the darkness was interrupted by a faint red glow in the distance. Was she responding to him already? The red glow shifted to a fiery orange that shot up into the horizon of the ether and the most overwhelming sinister presence that could ever be felt in the Force bombarded his senses. This was accompanied by a violent roar that felt as though it could tear the skies open with its sheer sound, if indeed skies existed in a place like this. Without warning the areas around him burst into what looked like violent flames, and out of the flames came gnarled wraith-like spirits... souls lost to the dark side. Faster than the blink of an eye they went for him, a mixed expression of pain, fury, and hunger for absolute power garbled what was left of their faces. They began to tear voraciously at the Jedi while screaming with a deafening piercing growl. Not a thought could be heard above the horrible sound.Vanquish the light!!!Jair physically felt nothing, but his soul was pierced with a terror so unimaginable it caused him to tenporarily forget everything but this moment. This sheer horror was his existence right now. Amidst the demonic din, he couldn’t even hear his own howls of terror. But in reality this only lasted for but a split second, although it felt so much longer. Eventually he felt like everything was slowly beginning to fade...The medical droids scrurried upon their mysterious planet where the body of the Jedi was being watched. He had flatlined and they were scrambling to shock him. The ancient man observed with a frown as he held the babe.

All began to come to pass as Mariah had envisioned. The Jedi's soul was a like a beacon to the tormented souls -- to Chaos itself. He was an anomaly that didn't belong here. Thus, It would rectify his presence. Mariah heard the call of her sister's name like a garbled cry in her mind before falling flat within the ocean of eternal screams. It could have been only a few seconds to dissipate. It could have been days. Or longer. The mortal perception of time, like everything else the mortals placed so much faith in, had no weight here, and Chaos was a cruel Master. A lesson the Jedi quickly learned as the souls of the damned sought after and ravaged at his own, tearing it apart, piece by piece, hoping to swallow every ounce of light that lingered here until it was no more.
<< You came here to seek her out, yet look at you now... >> Mariah's voice mocked, her smooth voice piercing through his sharpened screams. << What happened to your resolve...? >>
In the midst of his torment, a new hellish inferno rose up around him. However, with it, the tortured spirits ceased their feasting upon him and, with blood curdling screams, fled hastily from the area. Something so much more sinister had come for Jair, those flames bathed in the very essence of Chaos itself. Yet, there was something eerily nostalgic about its essence, as if deep down, the warmth of those fires were something he had come to feel and experience at some point or another in life...
A dark figure rose up, and with a sweep of its hands, the fire stretched out like a furious wave, shooing away any who may have attempted to further trespass in their hungry endeavors for the Jedi's soul. With a flicker of movement, the figure appeared to move, to shift, but the sheer ethereal matter of its existence made it too difficult to tell. When twin golden fires grew alight as the shadow’s eyes, however, it was evident that it had turned to burn into Jair with a livid fury.
<< What are you doing here, Jidai?! >>
The canorous, feminine voice echoed about with a nature like oil and water. Underlying gentle tones, laced in concern, were overwhelmed with a demanding strength which cared little what answer he could give her for this foolish venture into this realm. If there were any questions as to who their guest was, though, it became clear with those familiar tones, although every once of what stood before him was far different than what he would remember. Regardless if he could believe it, she felt his presence enter this cursed place and answered his call, even saving him, for now, from the immediate fate her sister brought him here to face.

Jair felt himself fading slowly with no thought of where he was or where he was going. He had become numb to the assault. Mariah’s malicious taunts fell upon deaf ears. The Jedi was hardly aware of anything at this point. But then, right before all awareness faded away, he felt a surge of energy and a tactile warmth enveloped him. His seemingly ethereal form gradually began to take shape again.
The medical droids had given up on restarting his heart back up on the surface of the strange planet. They were rather bewildered when his heartbeat began again seemingly of its own accord. The ancient man stroked his beard pensively.
The unspeakable horror from moments before felt like a faded memory now. What toll it had taken on the essence of his soul, only time would tell. But now, he looked up at this... shadow... this strange presence. Yet no, it was not so strange, still. It felt now as if there was nobody in the entirety of the living Force or the netherworld besides himself and this shadow. This shadowy figure emanated a deep darkness that overpowered all of the spirits from before. And yet, while this shadow bore a fearsome presence of undoubtedly great power, there was a strange sense of comfort he felt. How bizarre. How could a Jedi ever feel comfortable in Chaos?
Her piercing, burning gaze met his. It was then that he knew. As unfamiliar as this form visibly appeared, as soon as he saw the fearsome fiery eyes, it was as if a puzzle piece just clicked into place. That connection in the Force that had felt so wrongly empty was back and fully functioning. He heard her voice. He could never forget that voice, though now it sounded so much more powerful, and commanding. He felt small in her presence, yet, he remained, as always, taken by her. He kept his gaze locked onto hers. He had no desire to turn away at all.
Aria... it’s me! I came here for you... to find you!
Jair’s out-of-body voice rang out those words with such a familiar captivation and naivety as it did many times before in the land of the living. Should Aria remember, it would likely give her flashbacks of the many times this Jedi relentlessly pursued her in the past. If by any chance Mariah could still see this transpiring now, it probably would seal within her mind no doubt her belief that this Jedi was an absolute lunatic. His small ethereal form approached the ominous shadow with nothing but a longing, love, concern, and a glimmer of joy and hope evident in his eyes; all this in the middle of Chaos itself. Rest assured she would likely never witness such a sight again.

Even as Jair announced himself and his motives, the shadowy figure simply stared at him with those burning eyes. Despite the sheer horror of this place, he somehow found comfort in her presence and in those memories he held from those years past. Although Mariah presided over the events occurring, a physical presence was still nowhere to be seen. Regardless, her disgust towards the Jedi was more obvious than before, if such was possible. A nauseating aura permeated the area, although she was sure that not even that could take away those puppy eyes he stared at Aria with. His resolve was so easy to shake, yet so easy to be reformed all over again at the mere sight of her. Sickening was an understatement.
His words, his very voice surged all of those memories, the days he relentlessly pursued her. What he may have believed to be fond memories, however, there was a second half to those moments he had always been so blind to from the beginning.
<< Why...? >>
Aria's quiet question needed no answer. She was all too familiar with the harrowing dangers he would put himself in for her during life. Death was be no different. He did it... simply because it was for her. However, her whispers broke through the dark energies like ripples, crafting relentless screams that built into an ear shattering crescendo, until the sound resembled a thousand cries that spanned over a millennia. Those fond memories rushed over like a flood in his and her mind alike. Time as he knew it slowed and repeated each one of those moments he held so dear. Each shattered within the core of his mental state, one by one, as the truth of his advances weighed down as though the whole of the galaxy fell upon his shoulders, the burden she carried from this enigmatic 'bond' he felt. Like a jolt of lightning through his system, the realization came that in his happiness, she found nothing but aversion and apprehension in that bond.
<< You've always done such foolish things, but this… this is by far the most stupid thing you've done. >>
Despite her harsh words, there was still a sense of pity that seeped through the shadows’ aura. Reaching up to place her hand against Jair’s chest, the shroud appeared to fall off the figure like fine silk, revealing the familiar face he was so used to seeing among the Jedi Temple and Base. She was sure that in that moment, all he would see was her features, the illusion of her humanity, and perhaps the distressing shock from before would become yet another memory washed away within the eternal sands of Chaos. However, if he took a moment to examine the world around him now, Chaos faded into yet another familiar illusion, that of the the vast and colorful jungles of Felucia.
<< You know you shouldn't have come here, Jair... >>

’Why?’ He supposed she already knew, in part, the answer to that question. But would she pick up on the specific reason he came here? Only time would tell. Before he could answer her though, memories came flooding to his mind going all the way back to the first time he met Aria, the shy girl meditating in the Room of a Thousand Fountains in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, through time on Zeltros as well as their relocation to the Felucian Jedi Base, and all the way up to the moments that transpired over the past few days. All of it felt like many lifetimes ago from his current perspective. Still, each memory remained very vivid... and troubled. He began to feel weighed down by an undeniable sense of frustration coming from all of these memories, on Aria’s side of the connection. He watched as the memories strangely shattered before his minds eye, and though it was painful to witness, he wasn’t necessarily surprised. As overwhelmingly enamored as he was to see her again, he knew for a while, or at the very least had taken a hint, that his love for her was one sided. It was a painful truth to swallow, but he wasn’t here to convince Aria to fall in love with him.
He smiled weakly at her comment of the stupidity of his actions, all the while yet his concern growing more and more evident as the initial shock of being so close to Aria again for the first time started to fade, but just as soon as that happened, she moved towards him and placed her hand on his chest. If he could feel his heart flutter, it would have now, as she did this and she transformed into the woman he knew all those years. His mind immediately went back to that shy girl searching for herself at the Fountains. For a moment, yet again, he nearly forgot about his mission. It was at this moment that his surroundings seemed to change as well. It looked almost exactly like the Felucian jungles. Odd, but he did not have time to question how that happened, although it did bring him yet another odd sense of comfort. Nevertheless, her voice and the words she spoke brought his sense of concern right back.
Should anyone really be here?
There was absolutely no hint of judgement in his voice nor in his expression as he responded to her question with one of his own. Rather it was a firm belief of his. As far as he was concerned, in an ideal reality, nobody belonged in Chaos, and absolutely certainly not her. There was absolutely no reason she should be, nor deserved to be in such a terrible place.
I knew something was off when I could no longer sense you in the Force. I set out to make sure you were ok. When I found out that you... when I found out what happened, I couldn’t find peace because I still couldn’t sense you in the Force. That’s when I feared the worst.
It was ironic that even now, despite where they stood, he still couldn’t come to verbally acknowledge that she had passed from the realm of the living. Regardless he looked directly at her with a fiery boldness and a renewed sense of urgency. There was absolutely no doubt from the look in his eyes that he believed he was here for the right reasons, doing the right thing that would end with the best possible outcome for them all, given the circumstances.
I came here to get you out of here, Aria. Being a Jedi, I have access to Harmony. Remember, I have been there before. With our combined energy, I think we can make it over there.
Without a second thought, he extended his hand to her. If they hurried, this might actually work perfectly. It was almost too good to be true, but Jair was unphased. The glimmer of hope in his eyes now grew once more. At this rate they could perhaps even make it to Harmony in time for him to return to the land of the living, and then he could reconnect with Aria and teach her how to become a Force Ghost.

Blue awoke with a start. She was unsure how long she had been out. The last thing she remembered was falling into the river, or rather falling through the void, but there was no memory of an impact with the dry bed. She felt around and realized that she no longer was in the same place she was before, nor did she lack the strength she once did.
She sat up on the slab of dark granite that extended around her several meters in all directions before falling off. From where she sat, she couldn't tell what lay beyond in the darkness.
It was cold, quiet, but it lacked whatever ominous void that surrounded her in the previous place. Looking down at her arms and legs under the tattered robes, she saw a strength she had never known. It was invigorating; it was maddening. Little by little, waves of emotions she had sequestered away for most of her life began to awaken in her. Memories she had hidden, feelings she had abolished all came trickling in. At first, they were easy enough to ignore and shun, but as more and more began to pile up, she began to physically respond. Laughter, weeping, cries of agony, waves of pleasure intermingled with impacts of pain.
A moment passed like an age, and she struggled to stand.
What is this madness, this chaos, this torment?
Just as she was about to her feet, she collapsed under the weight of darkness around her, flowing through her. It was a feeling she had never known or recognized outside of her experience with the Other on Ilum.
No, this can’t be...
She looked onward in confusion as the knowledge that had been hidden from her in that other realm began to trickle in with the flood of emotions. It was a realization she knew she had understood all along, but at the same time was completely oblivious to. She had been in a waking dream of some fugue state now turned into a nightmare.
On her knees, blue leaned back and screamed out into the void with a voice of fear and rage. There was nobody around to answer her call, and it was immediately absorbed by the nothingness around her.

At this rate they could perhaps even make it to Harmony in time for him to return to the land of the living, and then he could reconnect with Aria and teach her how to become a Force Ghost. To see Jair standing before her, to feel the purity of his essence, his soul, without the cloud of mortality, Aria knew why he was there the moment she sensed him. His intentions, like his soul from his body, were laid bare. Why else would a Jedi plunge himself into this hell, only to call out her name before its torture could tormented him? With his intentions came that idyllic falsehood, the light that sought to shed away every ounce of darkness. It was clear, especially so here, within the very counter-essence that Jair desired to save her from. However, that girl Jair met, that shy and reserved Jedi Padawan, was not the girl standing with him within Chaos, within the illusion of the Felucian jungles. Her gaze lowered, her brow furrowing in a mixture of deep thought and mild, lingering annoyance to his question, to his confirmation to his reasons for defying the balance of the Force.
<< Yes. >>
Her answer to his question came with a blunt honesty and certainty, to which she expected to come as a surprise to the otherwise naive Jedi. Should anyone truly be here? She could hear the conviction of his tones, the ill-placed optimism that it was an achievable goal. However, she expected as much not only from him, but from many Jedi. A fault in which blame could not be cast upon him nor the others, but she would not stand by idly and allow the circle of lies to continue.
<< What is Harmony without Chaos, Jair? Do you really believe that the one could exist without the other? >>
Aria finally looked back up at him, her brows still knit together and with a slight frown weighing down her expression.
<< ...and isn't it against the Jedi Code in some manner to give in and act according to such fear? I can only imagine what Master Alora would say if she knew what you've done. >>
With her hand still pressed gently against his chest, Aria kept her motives otherwise a secret. However, with it, she could feel the connection, the flickering of the strands as they loosened themselves, tearing away piece by piece from his soul and his body. The magics binding him here were that of her own and easy enough to undo. However, time was still of the essence. Although she could push him back to the realm of the living, she needed to guarantee that he would not attempt another delve into realms which he didn’t belong. The choice needed to be made by him and him alone, but she could still try to nudge him the right direction.
<< You may have access to Harmony, but that is no place for me. Perhaps for the Jedi's Spark you knew and loved, that girl you met at the Jedi Temple, and followed loyally throughout the galaxy... but that Aria is dead. >>
Dead. It was an amusing enough choice in words, considering that she really was dead. It was a sudden shift in her whole demeanor, from the concerned friend he could easily recognize to the faint giggles bubbling with sinister amusement to what may very well have brought him pain. The oddity of her laughter was shortly silenced to a hiss, and with it, her form fizzed, fading away from his view in the time that it took to blink an eye. The Felucian jungles dissipated with her, leaving nothing but the vast void to swallow Jair again.
<< I remember you've been to Harmony before. Do you remember the debacle when I first communed with my ancestors, plunging myself a too deep into Chaos, and my poor father had to save me? Or... Do you remember when I weaved my first spell and presented it as an amulet to my Blade, who still refuses to wear it to this day? Or how about when I was given my name by those ancestors who dwell with me here today, and thus how you know me as your dearest Aria? Did I not tell you any of those old stories...? >>
Her question came nearly mocking, laced with a maniacal giggle. She had provided Jair with a glimpse of the quiet, reserved girl he once remembered, but now, it was time that he witnessed her for the reality of who she was, to understand the weight of her words. Perhaps then, she could break them both from their binding curse and send him spinning back to the Wheel of Life.
<< Of course not... I couldn't exactly share those memories which I didn't have. All locked away by that Shadows turncoat who rotted away in the Jedi Temple in her final years. She's probably wandering aimlessly throughout the Land of the Dead as we speak. >>
A gray fog rose with gusto, swallowing the Jedi whole. The girl's laughter echoed as movement rushed past Jair's peripheral vision. Her presence abounded all around him, as though she was the fog itself. However, a sudden pressure wrapped around his shoulders, creating a chilling and thick air to wrap around and constrict him. Like a breath against his ear, this familiar stranger whispered what she hoped would be a final warning.
<< ...You know you might join her soon, if you're not careful... >>

Her answer did indeed come as a shock. He stood there trying to process everything she was saying as best as he could, but it all sounded so... foreign. And despite everything she was saying, something still didn't add up. Aria was not a Sith, nor was she even a Dark Jedi. A spirit of such a nature would not have kept a Jedi wandering into Chaos safe. Yet here he was, being protected by her. It was quite ironic seeing as he felt like he needed to be the one saving her. He stood silent for a while, allowing the timeless nature of his surroundings to give him an opportunity to process what she was saying. It was as if he knew that what she was saying was true, yet he still had to suspend disbelief in hearing her words. It felt like ages had passed before he finally spoke again.
Aria... I may be a Jedi, but I am no turncoat. I've never pretended to be anything else...
That was only partially true. There was a time he pretended to be a Sith on Coruscant, but, that had nothing to do with his history with her. And it was true that he always presented himself authentically to her. Even now. But why even say that? It wasn't as if she was threatening him. If she was, he was completely oblivious to it. Perhaps, he said that as though he was begging for more time... more time to explain himself, more time to try to help her to see... And surely enough as she was peering into his soul, that is what she would sense.
And even though I can sense you have embraced the darkness, there is one thing I know you are not... even now...
He stopped speaking for a moment, giving her a chance to say something. Strangely, he was not yet consciously aware of what she was trying to do to their connection. But that would likely change soon as his being tensed up a bit. Though he did not yet know what was going on, his soul was resisting detachment. For now, he was too concerned with hearing her next words to pay too much heed to it, but if she were to push any more, the resistance would likely grow stronger.

It seemed as though the Jedi who delved so far from home wasn’t budging despite her nudges. In a matter such as this, the power of Chaos would soon overwhelm her. Already, it felt as though her magicks that derived from this place were being stripped and shredded away from her incorporeal form. If only this Jedi understood the fine line she danced upon, allowing him these precious moments, keeping his hope alive in a mission that was doomed to fail from the start.
At least she had made due already with the bit of time that she had, weaving the remnants of their strange and unexplainable ‘bond’ like a web around her. She could hear their cries, seeking to reignite that connection. For some reason. It was with but a single, hushed command that she bid them asleep. She would deal with this later.
The dark laughter that fluttered through the essence of this hell resounded all the same, leaving no hint to the struggle that simply melded into the already eternal suffering that abounded here.
<< Yes, Jidai… >> the voice cooed, wholly surrounding each of his senses. << You are what you are… and are not what you are not… but if stripped of the ability to call yourself a Jedi, do you truly know who you are? >>
The past, the present, the future -- all melded like one time within this place. Jair’s excursions, masking himself as a Sith, were locked in the memories of the universe, within the Force. For those sensitive enough to tug and take in those minuscule details, the history of the universe was but a few strands away. But that wasn’t the point to her earlier words. Perhaps they were a threat, meant to jolt some fear into him. However, there was a reality about them that he didn’t seem to understand, as if he was just meeting with her in the Felucian Base and not in hell.
No matter.
The laughter peaked as her form resolved in front of him again, at first particles of blackened dust coalescing until all that he remembered as Aria Shadows appeared.
<< Ooo, I love guessing games…! >> she giggled with eyes alight, shimmering with a hint of madness. << I’m not a Sith? ...Not a turncoat? Am I getting closer >>
Her lighthearted eagerness to finish Jair’s sentence was perhaps just a tad bit more concerning how that her illusion of fog dissipated, leaving a void surrounding the two for eternity. Her smile, though, took a mischievous turn as she leaned in close to him, face-to-face, to whisper.
<< ...but the real question is… do you know who I really am? >>

The Jedi's very soul tugged against her manipulations of the Force bond. He could somehow feel the pressures of it fighting within his ethereal form. He watched as she formed a web... not fully sure of what was going on or the struggle taking place in the Force over this bond. He was also unaware of the sheer power of his own soul, will, and determination as although Aria would have a higher mastery over the bond, there would be at the very least a sliver of this bond still connected to his being, refusing to be totally removed in its entirety. It was as if it was beyond either of their control. As this tug was happening, his ethereal form would seem to flash a bit, but other than that, not much appeared to take place. He did not hear it’s cries as she did. Perhaps it was because some of it would survive. He was still locked onto this ever so vital conversation.
Her first question was a good one. He didn’t know how to imagine life if he couldn’t be a Jedi. But he didn’t have time to dwell on that. He couldn’t help but smile a bit at her enthusiasm for guessing games, but very quickly he grew serious again. Her final question resonated with him. If he was going to have any chance of succeeding here, he needed to know who she was.
I don’t know... not yet...
But on the subject of who she wasn’t, somehow he sense she guessed correctly, at least in part. Such an ironic thing!
I can sense that you are not a Sith... you’re not even really a Dark Jedi, either... There’s something different about you, even now, than anyone in tune with the dark side I’ve ever met...
He didn’t know how his Jedi intuition even managed to work here, nor how he was able to compose himself enough to use said intuition in the gravity of such a situation. He still had every intent of helping her out of here. That was still the goal. But somehow he now knew in order to get there, he needed to understand exactly who the soul standing before him was, in her purest of essence. He looked directly in her eyes.
You’re not evil, Aria.
And he said that not to try to desperately convince her that she wasn’t evil, but rather, because he legitimately couldn’t sense it in her being. Either she simply wasn’t, or if she was, she was a total master at hiding it from him.
So if you’re not a Sith... not a Dark Jedi... not evil... why are you here? And who are you?
And there it was. The question to trump all questions. Who was she? And still, tinged within it was the evidence that he was still driving towards the goal, although perhaps not as openly zealously as before. For if she really was none of those things, then why be here? Why Chaos?

Sure enough, Aria could tug and pull and manipulate their Force bond as easily as stray hairs caught on another’s clothing. There was something all too finicky about it, though. Too many strands, woven to create an intricate strength that tied to the two of them together. The more she reclaimed, the more she became aware of those tiny remnants that would take far longer than she had time for, to fully free both him and her from this mysterious connection within the Force. Especially with his very essence fighting against her acts. It was a beat that she pondered why the Force had chosen him, a mere moment in time for Jair but an eternity for this woman within Chaos.
Aria seemed to find some suitable answer, and just in time for Jair to continue his own ponderings regarding the woman who stood before him in this massless corner of the Void. As he continued on about not knowing who she was, knowing what she was not, an enigmatic smile curled at the edges of her lips. Yes, there was an ever-present dark glimmer in her eyes, as if she dangled a deep, dark secret before him, but there was something so far less menacing about it with the soft and feminine features that looked upon him.
<< I am a Shadows. >>
With smooth, alluring tones, she answered simply, purposefully, that same answer Mariah imparted to him earlier before her voice faded into a drawn-out hiss. Aria took a step back, her foot creating ripples underneath them. One… Two… Three… Instead of acting like water, however, the essence of Chaos grew rapidly with the disturbance, and the next washed over Jair’s essence like a tidal wave, swallowing him in black.
The sensation was like being submerged deep underwater. No air. No sense of which way was up or down. Those new to the afterlife still held on tight to life. Drowning. Death. Panic. Aria suspected that his Jedi training may help him in keeping a calm mind, but this was Chaos after all. He may be able to hold onto the idea that she kept him safe, even while she was nowhere to be found now. However, she couldn’t keep all of the monsters here at bay… She was barely keeping him attached to his mortal body by this point. He would need to fight for himself, and no better way to force him than this little reminder that he was, at current, dead.
<< I am not evil, for evil was designed by mortals, Jidai. Not the universe, nor the Force. >>
Her voice rang out in the pitch black, disfigured demons wailing as they brushed past him with searing fury, creating a strong pull that could disrupt and dizzy any attempts of reaching an unseen surface. But she didn't come here to attempt a philosophical lesson with one trained rigidly to believe they followed the light and good of the world, of the Force. Nonetheless, if Jair fully wanted to understand who she was, why she dwelled here in Chaos and willingly so, she would need him to let go of those rigid Jedi beliefs and to delve deeper into his mind than perhaps he had ever gone.
<< If the concepts of evil, darkness, war, chaos -- If all of it just vanished, Jair, where would that leave you? The Jedi? The galaxy as you know it? What of the Force? Imagine it. Focus on it. Every aspect. Every. Little. Detail… >>
Life without evil. Without pain. Without darkness, chaos, death. She wondered if he could fully fathom it. A final lesson before her hand would be forced. With the last bits of control she still had, she seeped her magicks into his mind to project that which he envisioned all around him. That false reality rippling through the waters all around him. Something so brittle, she excitedly awaited the chance to shatter it. A better way to answer his final questions than mere words alone: who was she? And why was she here?

Inky blackness engulfed the Jedi’s senses. It was a very uncomfortable feeling, like being submerged and unable to take in air... but then again one does not necessarily need air in the Netherworld. And this time, he did not panic. The tormented souls streamed past him, but oddly, either did not notice him or did not seem to care... poor lost souls being carried away by the currents of the Force in this darkest of places. Aria’s voice snapped Jair back to attention and out of whatever Jedi meditation he managed to fall into. The streams of souls disappeared but the blackness remained, for the time. Yet her voice rang crystal clear.
A Shadows... yes, he knew this. That was her family name. Evil created by mortals? He highly disagreed. His whole life’s experience could attest to a different interpretation, even if he were to forget all of his Jedi training. A world without darkness, however... without it evil... It may have come as a surprise to her, but the Jedi did not need to ponder these words for very long at all before they resonated with him.
Wait!
His voice rang out in reply to hers so soon it may have even startled her, should such a thing be possible.
You... speak of balance. But not the Jedi meaning of balance... you speak of... true balance...
It was then that his surroundings changed again, and the blackness lifted. He looked at Aria’s projected figure with a mixed expression of wonder and bewilderment. He wondered if she remembered the early days from when they met. Though he was always a Jedi, he had a habit, what he had now come to believe a bad habit, of dabbling with more... controversial aspects of the Force.
I used to strive for that balance, remember? I once had lofty goals... to master both sides of the Force without losing myself. To use it for the greater good at all times. Yet... I never could. Any time I came close, I began to feel my mind slipping away... I nearly lost myself to the darkness every time I tried... so... I stopped trying, and just chose to embrace the light. But you... you must have striven towards true balance as well... Miss Rayanelle did say that you took value from what you learned with the Jedi...
That conversation with Rayanelle felt like centuries ago now...
But I’ve never witnessed anyone truly succeed... to be truly balanced. To be truly Grey... many have tried, there are even rumors of a place in the Netherworld... somewhere in between Harmony and Chaos... and anyone who finds true balance would find that place... But that doesn’t make sense because, this is still Chaos...
The Jedi was thinking out loud. If Aria found true balance, then surely she couldn’t be in Chaos, but that other place... the place for a Grey. So why here? Yet... there was an undeniable sense of balance about her. Perhaps the true nature of that lack of evil he sensed. Something far beyond either of their ideologies on the matter. But then how could she be here?

It was an odd thing. When Aria had pushed for this Jedi to think about harmony without chaos, he proved his understanding of the necessity of the two together. At least in part. The truth of the Grey. It was a noble feat, both for them and for Jair to admit their attempts to achieve true balance within themselves. However, in those attempts and achievements, many became no better than the Jedi or the Sith. There was always the belief that the single piece was so much more important than the whole of the puzzle that was the Force.
However, when Jair shattered through the misconception of achieving pure harmony throughout the galaxy, Aria’s magicks, too, shattered. The pit that surpassed even true darkness lifted away, allowing the woman to materialize before the Jedi once more. Even now, she took on that familiar appearance he remembered her as, however with eyes as dark and empty as that eternal sea of dark side energy he had just managed to surface from.
<< We believe in true balance among the Force, jidai, >> she corrected with a certain emphasis, her voice like an eerie lullaby which resonated all around him. However, there was no mistaking that familiar gentle smile that curled at the corners of her lips. << The Force is among all living things, and we all have a place in the balance it seeks to achieve. You would be wise to never forget: the Force is so much greater than one single soul. >>
Her power was diminishing, quickly. It was already a difficult enough task to keep one tethered to the mortal world but to keep one who did not belong here tethered. It shattered a dissonance that remained otherwise unknown to the man who delved into the depths of Chaos. However, to his savior that ensured his safety within the darkest energies of the Force, she could feel the tether of his soul to the mortal realm breaking and slipping away, bit by bit. If he wasn’t content with the answers he had now, her hand would be forced to hurl him back, an action that would have more consequences for him upon awakening. Nonetheless, she would finish giving him the whole answer in which he sought, hoping it would be enough to satiate his curiosity so that he could find the pathway out of this hell himself.
<< Our people have sought to break through the fragile labels and impossible ambitions created by mortal minds. Instead, we delved deeper into the essence of the Force and weave its purest essence through our understanding. As our tribe grew, so did our connection to the dark side and Chaos itself. With this responsibility, we understood our role in what the Force sought for us. True balance. As you have accepted your role as those among the light, there must be those who seek the other side, Jair. Not because we are evil. But because we are what we must be. >>
She was unsure if Jair would understand her explanation, but it mattered little. The mere fact he was receiving this explanation was but the sole reward he would receive in his futile attempts to save her. It was not the victory he sought, but a prize he would be given. That is, if his mortal mind could hold onto the memories he formed here upon his return.
<< Many cannot see that harmony exists within the chaos, because it cannot exist without harmony, nor can harmony exist without chaos. These are the lessons taught by our people, both by those who exist among the light and the dark. However, it does not change that our connection to the Force has always been a connection to the energies which surround you now, and why we will continue to honor our place among the Force, even after death. >>
The vision of her body began to crumble and blow away in the unfelt ‘breeze’ of Chaos’ energies. The last thing he would see is the subtle, gentle smile of the girl he once remembered, before she was carried off, leaving him floating alone in the Underworld, with neither Aria nor Mariah anywhere to be seen. Soon, her protective measures would fade, too, leaving him to endure the pain and torment that endlessly tortured the souls which resided here. However, she uttered one final parting to him, hoping it would be enough to satisfy that which he came here for and urge him to make his escape.
<< Do not fear for me any longer, jidai. You came to ensure my soul was at peace. Know that I have found peace, like my ancestors before me. >>

Jair heard her words, and indeed he did listen. For better or for worse, there was wisdom in her words. But as soon as she finished and he saw that she was fading, his sense of urgency kicked back in.
What about the other place? You could find it!
Jair’s voice echoed back to her as her essence began to fade from him and the Chaos around him grew threatening once more.
You have two sons... they could use your guidance... their mother! Promise me you’ll consider! Try to at least look for this place! If not for your sake then for theirs! Promise-
The echo of the Jedi’s voice began to become drowned out by the roars and howls of Chaos. He could only hope that she would take his words into consideration. The ethereal flames began to overtake the darkness of the horizon. He could not see her anywhere but he could still feel her, faintly, from what little remained of their connection in the Force that would not be fully broken, so he knew she could still hear him. He focused on her faded and unseen presence once more, managing to just temporarily drown out the Chaos around him.
Promise me you will consider...
... Aria ... I will love you always...
He knew his love was unrequited. But he needed to say it. Not so much for her, but for him.

Harmony. Her sons. Tranquility, the Living Force, the place of the Grey. Their need for her guidance. The Jedi spoke out of turn with such things as he grasped onto whatever he could to convince her to leave this place. All for what? Love. It was both a blessing and a curse, and Aria had her doubts if it was ever a good thing to allow the Jedi to feel such a powerful emotion. One that could easily be twisted to hate, to pain, to suffering. However, it was not her concern, for love was also one of the strongest bonds that kept her and her people tied together, even within the depths of this eternal torture.
The real issue, though, was that Jair had succumbed to the darkness once she was gone. She didn’t know why it surprised her; the Jedi had always done some of the most dangerous things on her behalf. His future grew murkier with each passing second, and she knew now that her hand would be forced. He had spent too much time here already, and unless she acted, he would be left to wander in the plane of limbo between Harmony and Chaos.
His voice echoed all around him; however, his words didn’t just fade away or dissipate. Instead, they did the exact opposite and resonated louder and louder in his consciousness until it was nearly overbearing. Grief would have slowly begun tearing at his soul, leaving him cold with the sensation of a thousand needles stabbing over his body, until he was left numb and wishing for death beyond this one. It was as if his words, begging her to reconsidered, was known to fall onto deaf ears, even if it was a truth he didn’t want to accept.
<< O zi iv irus, buti tirji sulig jena'tes. Luai arush diena lauke tave netvarka iv temias zebesiji atmena. >>
With these foreign uttered words, Chaos seemed to part from around the Jedi in answer, as if the voice was somehow able to bend this darkest essence of the Force to do her bidding. However, with it, the darkness that lingered upon the Jedi from his moments within this place also tore themselves away, created a rift as if he had never been here. It went deeper than just the lingering energies that latched onto his soul but also tore away from his consciousness, the very memories he formed here in this place. The curse of forcing this Spellweaver’s hand: she was forced to completely separate him from the darkness he descended into, taking even that which he learned here, to ensure his safe passage back to the realm of the living. The further that Chaos stretched away, there was a faint light that managed to trickle through, sending the shrill howl of demons to descend upon it, the way they had rushed to feast upon the one of light when he had first arrived.
As Chaos snapped like a string to fill the hole the Seer created, the Jedi was nowhere to be found. All she could do now was hope his soul, flung back into the realm of the living, would find his body. Where in time or space was another matter entirely, but it was no longer a concern for the woman who had been more than merciful upon this soul that didn’t belong within the Chaos.
