If only for a few moments, the commander of the embattled RDF battalion attempting to hold the besieged entrance to Edethor under what appears to be the attack of the largest First Order force attempting to breach the city believes that there may be a chance that he and his troops can withstand the veritable tide that has been loosed against them; the arrival of an Alliance ground force that attacks the First Order's flank makes it, briefly, seem possible that the First Order might be thwarted.
The turbolaser fire that descends from the heavens, mercilessly lashing the Alliance ground troops unfortunate enough to be in the path of the fire, puts an end to any hope that the RDF commander harbored, and he almost freezes up as the fact that there will be no last minute reprieve from the fate that is marching on the capital, no beating of the odds, sinks in. Shaking his head in weary resignation to the inevitable, the RDF commander begins to give what will probably prove to be his last orders; ordering his remaining forces to pull back into the city, and to then find what defensible positions they can before the First Order is inside the city. The sounds of exploding LAATs, coming under fire as they circle around for another attack run, are joined by the barking woofs of tanks and the pained or panicked cries of friends and foes alike being hit by the steady exchange of blaster fire, accompany the sounds of the RDF troops and vehicles that survive the withdrawal into Edethor's streets, where they maneuver to cover points from which they then begin to wait for the pursuing First Order forces.
Make them bleed while we can, the RDF commander ends his last transmission of orders to his senior officers, and then unholsters his own sidearm and prepares to join the troops comprising his command staff as they begin to move to take up positions alongside the platoon nearest to them.
At the front of the Alliance battle group, Berdine and the platoon she has been fighting with are spared from the fates of so many of their comrades who perish when the turbolaser fire from the First Order's battleship in orbit decimates all that it falls upon, massive craters, twisted and flaming wreckage, and torn bodies left strewn about upon the churned and charred ground that can be glimpsed through the smoke and dust that fills the air in the wake of the turbolaser attack. One of the LAATs hit by the First Order tanks as it attempted to make another attack run crashes to the ground not far from where Berdine and the Alliance troops fighting beside her have nearly overrun the Stormtroopers that are guarding a flank of the force that assails Edethor, and she spares a moment to reach out in the Force to determine if there are any survivors. Frowning as she senses no life in the torn and flaming wreckage of the gunship, Berdine turns her attention back to the battle just as a loud rallying cry can be heard to the west, raised by the Stormtroopers that are the first to fight their way into Edethor.
Trying to ignore the despair the sight of the veritable waves of Stormtroopers she can see beginning to pour into the city, firing all the while on the RDF troops bravely trying to hold their ground, gives rise to within her, Berdine deflects a blaster bolt with her saberstaff as she runs along with the charging Alliance troopers, and then leaps forward to be the first to meet the Stormtroopers fighting from behind the cover of a destroyed tank. Dispatching several of the Stormtroopers herself, Berdine nods to the leader of the Alliance platoon after they have taken the enemy position when he gives the order to continue advancing, maneuvering into the city itself to pursue the First Order forces.
Not far from where Berdine and the Alliance platoon she accompanies enter Edethor and begin attacking the First Order troops that are marching ahead of them, Jyotish and the ragged band of Alliance troops he fights with, down to a single tank and a company sized band of infantry troops, harass the flank of the First Order force they have been pursuing, doggedly trying to stem the tide of tyranny that is rushing into Rendili's capital city.

The first two shots fired by the Mandalorians take out their intended targets, and while the remaining members of the two fireteams that were targeted react quickly to the sniper attack, one more RDF trooper is slain, hit in the side of the head as he searches for cover, before they find positions affording them cover from the surprise attack.
The leader of the third RDF fireteam, tracking the path of the blaster bolts that follow the initial attack, orders the surviving members of the lead fireteams to lay down suppressing fire as he and his team, familiar with the layout of the city, head down an alleyway that will take them onto a street that will ultimately take them north of the sniper's position and ideally enable them to flank the sniper team while they are occupied with the other fireteams. . . Dropping down as the enemy begins firing on the roof she and Jedrzej had taken position on, Ksenia suggests in Mando'a, ::Might be time to un-ass.::
Jedrzej shakes his head to disagree, holding up a finger as he takes a moment to use his buy'ce's lifeform detection suite to gain a sense of how the rest of the enemy troops are deploying while their comrades lay down the suppression fire. Using the comm-freq their squad has designated for use during this operation, Jedrzej contacts Zdzislaw to inform his Ruus'alor that he and Ksenia have attracted the attention of the RDF troopers they had spotted, relaying their current positions and movements so that Zdzislaw can set up an ambush. Waving to have Ksenia move further to the eastern side of the roof, Jedrzej explains, ::Zee and the others have our six. We'll keep the enemy's attention on us, Zee has Tor and Abby moving to flank them while Tadhg and Niall take care of the chakaar trying to flank us.::
Ksenia gives Jedrzej a thumbs up and then, cradling her Czerka Adventurer in her arms, starts using her elbows and knees to change her position as she points out, ::If you used a slugthrower, you wouldn't have given our position away, utreekov.::
::Noted,:: Jedrzej replies, waiting for a pause in the enemy fire before rising up and taking a quick shot at one of the enemy troops that had been firing at the roof and then returning to cover.
Tadhg and Niall, using the intel Jedrzej relayed regarding the enemy troop's movements, move out quickly from their position outside of the shield generator building for a street to the north of where Jedrzej and Ksenia are pinned down. Tadhg finding cover behind a speeder while Niall chooses a recessed store entrance with a clear line of sight on the rear of the building atop of which Jedrzej and Ksenia positioned, they wait for the enemy troops to arrive, opening fire on them once they are in range.
Toiréasa and Abiageal maneuver through city streets and alleyways, using their buy'ce's sensors to remain alert for any other enemy troops that might be in the area, choosing a route that ultimately brings them behind the RDF troops that are firing on the roof to keep Jedrzej and Ksenia pinned down. Each moving on a different side of the street where they will be engaging the enemy troops, Abiageal and Toiréasa find cover. Abiageal rakes the enemy position from side to side with blaster fire, while Toiréasa takes the time to fire with more precision.

Lieutenant colonel Vreni Kuhn, as the first of her troops and tanks enter Edethor's streets, begins issuing orders as she continues to watch the floating holoprojection of the battle on her boards. Holst, Stueck, you'll be acting as our advance guards, Vreni begins her orders, watching as the dots representing Holst and Stueck's tanks and troops begin maneuvering to precede and protect the main body of her force so that they are in position to cover its deployment as they advance towards the capital's main governmental building. Even though she suspects that the Alliance force has been critically impaired by the orbital strike that has just stormed down upon them, Vreni's next order is for Wirner, another of her tank company commanders, to have his troops and vehicles act as the rear guard of her force.
As Wirner's troops and tanks begin maneuvering to take up their positions, Vreni issues the order to begin the advance, initially choosing column formations to move more quickly. Stormtroopers acting as lead elements move out ahead of the tanks in their respective companies, with antiarmor specialists on high alert as they know the need to rapidly suppress any remaining RDF antiarmor systems or personnel is critical.
Once they near the main governmental building, having dealt with any resistance they encountered along the way, Vreni orders her tanks to maneuver into a line formation, giving them maximum firepower to the front, as they prepare to assault their final objective. Making a few adjustments to the disposition of her forces as reports from her scout troopers come in regarding the positions of the last of the RDF troops standing between her and the capture of the capital, Vreni contacts Ishild to inform the Admiral that the First Order's control of Edethor is imminent.

Vashity lets the blaster rifle, useless after its barrel has been cleanly cut off by the red saber of the dark robed figure, fall and hang from its sling as, infusing her movements with Force assisted speed, she becomes a blur herself as she rises from her crouch and weaves to her right while reaching with her right hand for her lightsaber hilt. Taking a large step forward to bring herself onto the Knight of Ren's right side, Vashity brings her left hand to her lightsaber hilt so that she has it in a two-handed grip as she lifts it up and, lifting her left foot onto its toes, slides the foot around to try and get behind the Knight of Ren, igniting her lightsaber's blue blade only once her arms are fully extended. Swinging her arms down towards the Kinght of Ren's right shoulder, Vashity hopes to sever the woman's arm in order to end the battle swiftly and non-lethally. . . Skillfully matching her foe's movements, Katsumi turns with the woman to prevent the move to get behind her, and then plants her feet firmly while intercepting the strike for her shoulder with her lightsaber. Using the Force to add strength to her movements, Katsumi shoves her lightsaber mightily backwards to try and throw her foe off balance, their lightsabers keening, hissing and spitting sparks as they lock together.
After shoving her foe backwards, Katsumi dances a step backwards to separate their blades, immediately lunging forward with her lightsaber, held out extended forward on a horizontal angle and aimed for the woman's neck. The strike for her foe's neck a feint, Katsumi dips her arm as her blade nears its apparent target, her wrist tilting downward so that the humming red blade darts suddenly down towards the woman's upper thigh . . .

Arduino turns to look over his shoulder as a large explosion sounds out, dismayed when he sees that the AT-TE that had carried the Alliance platoon he has been fighting alongside has been destroyed by fire from a First Order tank. A blaster bolt zings past the side of his head, and Arduino ducks down in time to avoid the one that immediately follows after it.
"Looks like we're hoofing it back to the LZ, Lieutenant Wrotny tells Arduino after firing a few blaster bolts in the direction the enemy fire towards their position had come from, explaining when Arduino looks confused by the news, Just got the order to retreat. First Order has all but taken Edethor, and our fleet is getting torn apart up in orbit. Brushing his shaggy blonde hair out of his eyes, Wrotny punches Arduino in the shoulder companionably and says, Hey, don't take it so hard, we knew coming in that the odds were against us, right? Retreating is the right call, let's us fight another day. Can't, he pops up from cover and sends a burst of blaster fire at the Biker Scout that has been harassing his platoon for the last several minutes, fight the baddies if we throw our lives away fighting a battle we can't win."
Heaving a weary, resigned sigh, Arduino summons a grin and says, "Fight another day, just so." Watching as Wrotny begins ordering his platoon to fall back, assigning the assault squad Arduino has been accompanying the role of covering the initial withdrawal, Arduino wonders briefly how Berdine and Jyotish are doing, but is soon distracted by the enemy tank fire that hits the ground nearby, throwing up clods of dirt and filling the air with even more smoke.
As Arduino and Lieutenant Wrotny's platoon begins falling back to the Alliance force's initial LZ, where the LAAT/i's and LAAT/c's that have survived the fighting have begun to assemble in preparation of transporting the Alliance troops and tanks to the ships that will ideally be awaiting them in orbit when the time comes, the commanding officers of the Alliance forces fighting alongside Berdine and Jyotish issue the order to disengage and retreat to the LZ.

Streets Near Edethor's Shield Generator Tadhg and Niall, using the intel Jedrzej relayed regarding the enemy troop's movements, move out quickly from their position . . . wait for the enemy troops to arrive, opening fire on them once they are in range.
Toiréasa and Abiageal maneuver through city streets and alleyways . . . Abiageal and Toiréasa find cover. Abiageal rakes the enemy position from side to side with blaster fire, while Toiréasa takes the time to fire with more precision. The leader of the RDF fireteam attempting to flank the Mandalorian snipers' position, attention on the rooftop where the snipers are currently exchanging fire with the teams he had assigned to lay down suppression fire, is killed when Tadgh and Niall open fire. The fireteam's automatic gunner is killed shortly thereafter as she lays down cover fire for her felloe troopers. Able to reach cover thanks to their automatic gunner, one of the remaining RDF troopers throws a thermal detonator towards the store entrance one of the Mandalorians had been firing from as his fellow trooper tries to keep the Mandalorians pinned down by firing quick bursts of blaster rifle towards each of their positions. . .
Down to only three troops, the Mandalorian snipers proving to be skilled and lucky, the surviving RDF troopers that lay down suppressing fire on the rooftop are so preoccupied with the task that they are caught completely off guard by the ambush from the rear of their position. One RDF trooper is killed by the raking fire one of the Mandalorians provides, and another is turning around to return fire when a shot from the second Mandalorian ends his life. The last of the three RDF troopers manages to fire on Abiageal's position before being killed by another well aimed shot from Toiresea.
Capitol BuildingOnce they near the main governmental building, having dealt with any resistance they encountered along the way, Vreni orders her tanks to maneuver into a line formation, giving them maximum firepower to the front, as they prepare to assault their final objective. Making a few adjustments to the disposition of her forces as reports from her scout troopers come in regarding the positions of the last of the RDF troops standing between her and the capture of the capital, Vreni contacts Ishild to inform the Admiral that the First Order's control of Edethor is imminent. Arch-Provost Mukesh stubbornly refuses to evacuate when the leader of the small RDF force assigned to guard the capitol building advises him to do so. Mukesh, a male Cathar that had served in Rendili's Defense Force himself prior to beginning his political career, knows that the First Order would only hunt him down were he to run, and has too much pride to do so in any event. Having heard all of the reports from the RDF troops defending the city, Mukesh knows that it is inevitable that Edethor will fall to the First Order even though the fighting has yet to end. Ordering the RDF commander of the surviving forces that still fight to defend the city to stand down rather than throw their lives away in what would only be a futile and empty gesture of defiance, Mukesh then contacts the leader of the First Order's forces to offer Rendili's unconditional surrender.
Outside of Edethor
Berdine, fighting with the Alliance soldiers currently pitted against the rear guard of the First Order forces, is too exhausted to be angry or dismayed when the news of Rendili's surrender and Colonel Ua'niall's order to retreat trickles at last down to the commanding officer of the platoon she has been accompanying. The reactions of the Alliance troopers range from anger that they had fought successfully their way into the city only to turn tail now, all the way to gratitude that the higher ups have seen the odds against them and reacted accordingly for a change, and Berdine can understand both sides even if she is too tired to know which one she is on herself.
As she is helping a wounded Alliance trooper towards one of the few LAAT/i's that has survived the fighting at the front, Berdine hears Jyotish calling her name, and offers the Zabrak a weary smile as he moves to help her with the wounded soldier. Berdine is relieved when, after the wounded trooper has been helped aboard the LAAT, Jyotish shares that he has heard that Arduino has survived, reports from the commander of the Alliance force their fellow Jedi has accompanied confirming that he was seen among the troops currently moving out for the rally point that has been selected for their withdrawal from Rendili. When she asks Jyotish about Vashity, however, his news is more concerning, the last report mentioning the Jedi Investigator concluding with the news she was joining a scout team heading for the capital that, ominously, has not been heard from since.
Berdine, heeding her instincts after a pause in which she closes her eyes and tries to quiet her mind to allow instinct to guide her, if it is instinct at all and not the subtle prodding of the Force, tells Jyotish that she wants to make a search for Vashity before joining the retreat. To her surprise, Jyotish not only makes no attempt to change her mind, but offers to accompany her, and Berdine thanks him before they procure two speeder bikes after speaking briefly with a helpful lieutenant that finds out for them where the scouts Vashity had accompanied were according to their last known report.
Speeding away from the Alliance LAAT/i's lifting off near to where the surviving tanks left with carriers have begun retreating to the rally point, Berdine and Jyotish head off to begin the search, both searching in the Force for Vashity's presence . . .

After accepting the Arch-Provost's surrender, Lieutenant colonel Vreni Kuhn has the Cathar and his family taken into custody for the time being to ensure that he is easily accessible should his knowledge or cooperation in the coming days or months as Rendili is integrated into the First Order. Assigning the task of taking the surrendered RDF troops into custody to one of her officers, Vreni has small forces sent to secure the main routes into and out of Edethor as Stormtroopers begin patrolling the city streets. Stormtroopers are also sent to the headquarters of the larger and more prominent media outlets on Rendili, with orders to use any force necessary to effect the capture of not only the buildings and studios, but also the staff members, particularly the reporters.
Two two-man Biker Scout teams are sent out with orders from Vreni to covertly follow the retreatng Alliance forces, their instructions to contact the Kunigunde if and when the location of the Alliance rallying point is found so that an orbital strike can, Vreni hopes, teach the Alliance the price to be paid for daring to oppose the First Order.

Once the capital city is secured, a platoon of Stormtroopers is sent to relieve the Mandalorians that had taken control of the city's shield generator. The officer in charge of the platoon offers to provide both any required medical services to the injured Mandalorians, as well as transportation back to their ship.
Once Lieutenant Kuhn's forces have secured the Capitol Building and other strategically important points throughout Edethor, the media blackout that had been effected by the crippling of communications on Rendili continues to be strictly enforced while Stormtroopers led by Psychological Operations and Civil Affairs officers occupy the larger media outlet headquarters and detain the personnel associated with them. Captured Rendili Defense Force troopers are detained at a large sports arena temporarily, with Psychological operations officers and troops assigned to the task of securing and interrogating them.
Civil Affairs Officers and troops, once the capitol has been secured, begin locating and working with Edethor's cooperative, or in some instances coerced, directors of hospitals, law enforcement agencies, utility companies and other services vital to the day to day operation of the capital city in order to quickly restore and maintain the function of such institutions and services. The First Order troops initially operate covertly, but once ensured of the cooperation of the agencies or companies they are tasked with overseeing, begin to project an air of transparency that, once media sources have been brought under the control of Psychological Operations officers and personnel, is exploited to foster within Rendili's populace the belief that the First Order's intentions are wholly benign. Prior to the appearance of such reports on holonews and other media channels, however, the first thing citizens of Rendili hear or watch when the media blackout is lifted is an address from the Arch-Provost. In the Arch-Provost's address, he informs the citizens of Rendili that their world was attacked by terrorists calling themselves the Rebel Alliance bent on capturing the Rendili StarDrive shipyards and other industrial resources on the planet, and that it was only due to the timely intervention of the heroic First Order that the terrorists did not succeed in capturing the planet and exploiting it to build its war machine. Citizens of Rendili are further informed that the First Order, in the interest of protecting Rendili from further such attacks, has kindly agreed to take the planet under its protection, stationing both ships in orbit and Stromtroopers and other personnel on the ground to ensure the planet's safety.

As the others members of the squad are stowing their gear after they had been taken by the First Order transport to their Kom'rk-class transport, the Muun Orar, Toiréasa asks Zdzislaw while beginning her pre-flight check, Where to?
Back to Agamar, Zdzislaw says, having received a secure, encrypted holonet message from Falean Bralor informing him of another job he is gathering skilled Mando'ade warriors for.
Agamar, Toiréasa repeats to confirm their destination, glancing at her co-pilot, Abiageal, and nodding to convey that she should start laying in their course accordingly. More work, or downtime?
Work, Zdzislaw says, adding only, Details are hush hush, but it pays well.
Nodding, driven as much by sheer love of battle and the personal challenges and rewards it has always brought her as by the monetary rewards it brings, Toiréasa completes her pre-flight routine and then takes the Muun Orar up, beginning the return journey to Agamar.

Several days after the occupation of Rendili, once it is clear that there is little need to worry much about civil unrest or any misguided retaliatory action from those remnants of Rendili's Defense Force that have not been captured or killed, First Order transports arrive bearing Stormtroopers to replace those injured or killed in the fighting to bring the world under First Order control, vehicles and other equipment to replace what had been lost or damaged, and First Order Planetary Governor Heiko Reyer, a forty eight year old, bald headed Lorrdian of medium height and build with a neatly trimmed graying beard.
Meeting with Lieutenant Colonel Vreni Kuhn and Commander Dachs Brandt to be briefed on the status of the orbital and planetary defenses, and then with the commanding officers of the Psychological Operations and Civil Affairs forces to be briefed on their operations to ensure Rendili's smooth transition into the First Order, Heiko quickly gains an accurate understanding of the present status of affairs on the planet. Seeing little need, for now, to assert his influence, Heiko's initial orders are for all current operations to proceed. There will come a time, Heiko knows, for making changes, such as using the Arch-Provost as a puppet to more transparently bring the First Order's true level of control into light so that the populace can begin to be shaped into proper citizens of the First Order, but to rush the process would be to invite complications patience often avoids.

Rendili thrived well under the First Order's administration, given its high priority status as a shipyard world. Imperial warships came daily for refitting and servicing while the dockyards continued to churn out many more warships. Its production only outstripped by that of Kuat.

Rendili's Planetary Governor, Heiko Reyer, finishes reading a report concerning the Psychological Operations and Civil Affairs forces successful efforts to control the larger media sources on the planet; the initial results of which have thusfar been able to begin paving the way for a strong pro-First Order sentiment being espoused by the media in an effort to sow the seeds for a more smooth integration of the populace into their new lives as citizens of the First Order. The portrayal of the First Order's occupation of the world in the media as motivated by a desire to bring peace and prosperity to Rendili has met with success, or so the reports he has been provided with seem to conclude, and Heiko pours himself a finger of whiskey in celebration before turning his attention to equally promising reports concerning the defense of Rendili and the shipyards that are of importance to both the economic vitality of Rendili and to the First Order as a whole.

After nearly two months of maintaining the appearance that Rendili's Arch-Provost is not merely a puppet of the First Order, Heiko Reyer, Rendili's Planetary Governor in fact even though that fact has thus far been concealed from Rendili's general populace, decides that the moment is ripe to make the transition from leading behind the scenes; public acceptance and approval of the changes that have been made in Rendili's governance since the First Order occupation began continues to grow, and the positive effects on everything from crime rates to the economy are impossible to deny.
So that the narrative that has been established remains intact, that the First Order was invited to Rendili by the Arch-Provost to help quell internal unrest, Heiko arranges for the Arch-Provost to hand the proverbial reins over to him in a public, widely and favorably covered in the planetary media, ceremony. Transparency, to a degree, having always been his goal, Heiko is quite satisfied when the ceremony has ended and all of Rendili knows for a certainty that they are now citizens of the First Order.

Her most recent review of the worlds that she has been made Grand Moff over concludes on Rendili, and so it is there that Ishild decides to take the leave she and the crew of her flagship, the Kunigunde, are long overdue for. Rendili's Planetary Governor, Heiko Reyer, is gracious enough to assign the task of seeing that the Kunigunde receives the routine maintenance, rearming and resupplying it is due for to a trusted member of the First Order's local naval department so that she need not worry about seeing to it personally, and to provide Ishild with the use of a residence procured by the First Order within the city for use by visiting dignitaries or other officials, enabling Ishild to enjoy the time in comfort and near to what entertainments and diversions the capital can provide.
As is often the case when she is on leave and their schedules align favorably, Ishild invites her oldest and dearest friend, a Chalactan chef who resides on Coruscant, to join her while on leave. The chef, Anahid Terzian, arrives on Edethor on the third day of Ishild's leave and stays for a week before needing to return to Coruscant, and both thoroughly enjoy their time together. Without Anahid to ensure that she does not find herself dipping frequently into work related matters even though she is supposed to be availing herself of the opportunity to break from them for a time, Ishild keeps apprised of the latest First Order intelligence briefs and operational reports sent out by the fleet commanders on the worlds she oversees throughout the remainder of her leave, making it easier for her to transition from leave to active duty once more when the time comes.

Transition had once again come to Rendili, a new Grand Moff had taken over the over sector. Standash desired to keep everything as easy as it could. She had sent out various aides to take stock and interview the current planetary administrators. They also went to set up an office for the Grand Moff. This was a smaller set up than she had on Kuat and Carida, this was more of a reminder that she was in charge and could be there at any moment. She had made a point of building up good people and trusting those she has empowered. That was why everyone was being interviewed. She had been impressed by the current leaders, things had been going well. Rendili was an interesting perspective of the new Grand Moff, having two of the largest shipyards under the same over sector made things different. Standash would look into seeing if specialization would be in the best interest of the First Order here in the upcoming months.

"He should be buried at home" Maxin Fel's somber words faded slowly in the hollow chamber, the gold plated walls catching his voice and whispering upwards from corner to corner until it finally vanished into the dome ceiling.
Baron Fel's hand caught his brother's shoulder and squeezed, "This was his home, Maxin" he whispered back, voice low and close to Maxin's ear so as to not be echoed by the wide open space of the room.
"The hell it was!" the elder's voice cracked like thunder as he spun to face his brother, who tumbled backward, his black uniform boots catching on one another and nearly sending him face first down the short flight of stairs behind him. The younger Fel dug his heel into the duracrete and propelled himself into a quick turn, narrowly missing the lip of the stairs but almost sending him off the edge of the raised platform anyway. Baron stared down at the six foot drop to the old temple floor but before he could get his footing Maxin was upon him again - this time grabbing him by his shoulders and spinning him back around.
"Bastion is his home - hell even Coruscant would have been something but not...not this!" the elder Fel gestured about the empty temple chamber, arms raised high towards the painted windows and jewel crested light fixtures. Then, as quickly as the fury had come it was gone again and the elder Fel let his body slump until his hands dropped to his sides and his head bowed to the floor - the white streak running through his razor thin hair glowing in watercolor light coming through the stained windows. "This isn't a home - it's the scraps The Delvardus threw to him"
Turning on heel Maxin looked up from the platform and towards the metal casket lying at its center. The platform the brother's stood on was perfectly centered in the middle of the empty temple funeral chamber, which itself was centered by the domed ceiling and its dozens of stained windows depicting old forgotten tales of myth in rainbows of color. The design had been executed so perfectly that now, as the noon sun rose through the sky, the light shone through the miasma of colored glass and painted the center of chambers in a waterfall of iridescent beauty - a beauty that perfectly bathed the mirror-like Chromium lining the casket. The rare metal acted like a prism, twisting the light into a kaleidoscopic light show that fluxed and pulsed like a living thing as Maxin approached it from the edge of the platform.
"Maxin this is what he wanted" Baron called after his brother, giving chase while pushing the loosened hair from his own eyes, "you can't keep doing this" Baron said, his voice growing quiet once again - but this time with a sharp edge that had been absent before
"You can't keep talking like this. If someone hears you-
"Scraps, Baron. They know that already. The whole of this Order and their pretender Emperor" Maxin hissed back, his eyes locked onto the First Order Emblem emblazoned into the chromium of the casket.
"The Honorable Moff Ronin Fel of Rendili" the inscription beneath the emblem read, "May the records of his service embolden future generations of Imperial Youth. For now His Service has ended, but not quietly into the darkness does it go! With a mighty roar his memory declares itself eternal! With a mighty roar it declares, Long Live The First Order! Long Live The Emperor!"
Maxin's black gloves creaked as his fingers tightened to vices. Again he read the line.
Long Live The Emperor.
"Scraps!" the casket rocked as the new patriarch of the Fel family slammed the words with his fist, "he should be laying with Jagged and Roan! With Cade! Not here...not in this place...not just so he can hold onto what little they'd give him!"
The elder Fel's voice cracked and he buried his head into the lid of the casket. Again he felt the tight grasp of Baron's hand on his shoulder and when he looked up he saw himself through the tear speckled reflection of his father's casket - his eyes red and face sunken.
"Maxin, please. Stop this, we can't let someone hear you" the sharpness had left his brother's voice and was now trembling just like his own, pleading for him to keep traitorous words unsaid. For a few moments the wish was granted and a silence fell between them for what seemed an eternity. For the first time Maxin heard the approach of the parade passing close to the temple. Soon enough the procession would be inside the temple to collect the casket and lead it in a symphony of stomping boots and bellowing music to its final resting place.
"You don't remember it Baron...I barely do, I mostly remember the stories now" Maxin managed after drying his eyes and standing himself back up, "it shouldn't be like this. Our name used to mean something. We used to be something. Rulers. Not servants."
The elder Fel pulled his uniform tight and dabbed his eyes a few more times with the back of his gloved hand, "it shouldn't be like this" he repeated before turning and stepping past his brother with little more than a glance. Baron followed quietly down the platform stairs and towards the large slab doors of the temple.
Soon the rulers of The First Order would be upon them - all pretending to give thanks to and praise.
All of them celebrating an unlived life.

Standash entered the temple ahead of the larger group. She may have left her former throne behind, but traditions were harder to release. Alderaan's destruction had left an impression all all its people for generations when it comes to death. The loss of life was tragic, and she had hoped for a chance to morn in her own way. She had known the elder Fel professionally mostly, meeting him first at the Gala on Coruscant, and then meetings with the former Grand Moff discussing the Over Sector. When she was promoted to Grand Moff, she had been worried how he would react. She had invited him to meet with her on Carida, not Kuat. He was not very happy, but he wasn't upset with her. She leaned on him heavily for advise and council. She had always respected him, and now he was gone. Walking inside, her 2 guards in black uniforms, herself in a black dress, she had chosen for forgo the official uniform and to remember him as a friend. She walked up, not noticing the two men already here at first. She nots to them and kneels at the casket before saying an Alderaanian prayer that was barely audible. She stands up and looks the men. She doesn't step up to them letting them morn the loss of their father in their own way.

There was no splendor nor majesty when the Emperor came to Rendili. His arrival came shortly after it was reported that Moff Ronin Fel had died. Long had there been anticipation, given his condition. Much was done to ensure a quiet and peaceful sleep, with medical treatment provided being paid by the Imperial Central Government itself. Nicademus had a great respect for the lineages of those who made up, not only this Empire, but previous ones. The Fels, the Needas, the Pietts, the Veeds, and so forth. When the news came, the Imperial sighed heavily and prepared his departure for Rendili.
His arrival came upon a Marauder-class Corvette, whereas it was usually a Star Destroyer or larger. He arrived on the surface, with his Upilson-class Shuttle, escorted by a guard of TIEs. It was a quiet arrival and one that was heavily kept under wraps. The Emperor didn't want the media nor the press covering his arrival to Rendili. This was not about him after all. This was about the diligent and loyal Moff of Rendili, Ronin Fel. He stayed at the governmental headquarters for the planet, rehearsing a speech, speaking with members of the Moff's former cabinet, and even with Ronin's sons, Maxine and Baron. The Imperial needed all he needed to know in order to best speak about the late Ronin.
A hovercar, and two armored hovercraft, landed outside of the temple. Nicademus stepped out, not wearing his white military uniform, but reverting back to the black color before the annexation of Coruscant. A cap was placed upon his reddish hair which had begun to dull, slightly, with age. He was heading towards half a century after all. However, the Emperor was not alone. In the hovercraft, his gloved hand extended to bring forth the Empress Faina Nikulin and his two children, Fiora and Octavian. Baltasar Delvardus stepped out of one of the armored cars, along with Brock Ferrum, Xeonon Solomon, a squad of Stormtroopers and the five of the Praetorian Guard. Quietly, the procession made its way inside.
The Emperor's presence was not declared, as dictated by Nicademus. His Stormtroopers, the black armored soldiers of the Imperial Guard, fanned out and kept watch over the entryway, taking things over from the local security. The Imperial family, escorted by the Praetorian Guard, made their way in quietly. They make their way towards the casket quietly. Once before it, Nicademus turns to his children.
Octavian, Fiora, please kneel.
The two nod and kneel before the casket with their stepmother who were the first to give their farewells to Ronin Fel. This was followed by Baltasar Delvardus and Brock Ferrum, leaving the Emperor to be the last. He stepped forward and touched the edge of the casket, looking down at the peaceful Ronin.
May you be at peace... and be reunited with your ancestors in the next life.
Nicademus then kneels before the casket and does so for several long minutes. There was an utter silence when the Emperor did so. Slowly, Nicademus rose from his place and rejoined his family who were off to the side. He made his way up to Maxine and Baron, the sons of the late Ronin.
Rendili was good hands when he was around. I know it was his wish to be buried here... but I cannot allow that.
Nicademus says to the pair.
When the ceremony is over, and the mourning is complete, I have arranged transportation to have his body be taken to your family's mausoleum on Bastion. I know he was ardent on this matter, many times over. But he deserves this honor, this right, to be buried with his ancestors and not separated from them. I believe that will give his spirit much deserved peace.

Among other military representatives there, Admiral Malice was present to pay his respects. He, along with three other high ranking Imperial Admirals formed up in an honor guard. They wore their parade uniforms, including their caps, capes, and ceremonial vibroblades. The Four slowly marched in formation up to the honor guards posted at the four corners of the raised platform holding the casket. With deliberate salutes, they relieved the four honor guards and took up their vigil over the remains of Moff Ronin Fel. The four relieved honor guards solemnly assumed a formation and slowly marched away from the funeral dais. Admiral Malice and the three other Admirals, simultaneously drew their blades at attention, and silently stood guard. In one hour, the Admirals would in turn be relieved by a cadre of high ranking Imperial Army genderals, who would then stand their own watch over the Moff.

Baron Fel (left) Ronin Fel (right)
The doors to the temple swung open, daylight cutting through the thin veil of dust that seemed omnipresent within its ancient walls. As the doors parted further, four white-clad stormtrooper filed inward and took positions on either side of the doors with their blasters brought close to their chests in a low guard. Maxin and Baron stood tall before the door, each brother taking a wide pose with their hands clasped tightly the small of their backs. Not long after a fifth form materialized out from the golden rays of sunlight - this time it was no emotionless helmet. Maxin felt his brother stir in the force as two sparkling pools of blue cut their way into the temple, a cascade of golden hair following close behind.
Maxin could almost feel his brother's wondering eyes as the Grand Moff entered the temple, gave them quiet acknowledgement and proceeded towards their father's casket. Baron bowed politely as she passed, Maxin barely bent his neck - not until he looks back to observe her prayer. When he turned back to face his brother he saw Baron doing much the same...though something about the downward tilt of his head told him he wasn't just listening to the prayer.
The clattering of boots directed both brother's attention away just in time to see The Emperor march through the door - accompanied by a file of black-clad stormtroopers and his contingent of Praetorian Guard. Out of obligated respect Maxin stepped aside as did his brother, who was just as formal but much more happy to do so.
Maxin's hands tightened into fists as the royals approached his father's casket, but he did his best to suppress in anger in The Force just in case their were unseen eyes who would take notice. But it only became more difficult to suppress the anger trying desperately to claw its way out of his skin when he saw The Emperor himself approach the coffin and speak his words - no matter how genuine they may have been.
When at last The Emperor left his father's coffin to its peace and approached the pair, Baron was the first to drop to one knee and bow his head to The Emperor. To Maxin it had the appearance of a trained dog and it made his stomach turn to see yet another member of his family brainwashed so. Yet again he found himself forcing the emotions into a bottle so as to not disturb the ethereal realm of The Force. His face had become much easier to control, however, and it showed only the mild contempt it always seemed to hold for everything around him.
The elder brother was much slower to kneel than Baron had been - but he bowed all the same. His head ducked politely and his body took its time lowering to the ground before The Emperor. In his own mind it was his a little act of defiance, but to the outside viewer it was perhaps only the usual stubborn dignity of an Imperial Officer.
"My Emperor" Maxin addressed the man just as any other loyal servant would, rising only when The Emperor gave his signal and began speaking to them. The Emperor prattled on about how he believed their father to be a good hand for Rendili in his life and then he said something...intriguing. Maxin's ears perked up when The Emperor began to speak of his father's burial site and he could feel the same happen within his brother.
Then he felt Baron's heart clench and his a swirl of uncertainty circle around him at The Emperor's words. Then he felt the same within himself. Why? Why was The Emperor doing this? Was it a genuine act of kindness or some game?
Maxin had never truly met The Emperor. Been in his presence, spoken to him sure but Maxin had never allowed himself to see him as more than the man who was sitting where his father should have been. The man who kept The Fel's around for his own pleasure but never bestowing on them the honor they deserved. At least in his own head. The Fel, after all, were the only reason there WAS an Empire following the defeat of the Remnant all those centuries ago. Yet after Caed disappeared without an heir to his name - a name Ronin had been barred from assuming at the time - they had been tossed aside. Left. Forgotten for all but the service they rendered to men who took what was now theirs.
Maxin's father had said different. Insisted that he was loyal to The First Order and that the royal family had done nothing but good for the family. But Maxin could still remember the old times. Could still remember the way his father had hated the main line for barring him from rule. Spoke of ruling himself. Remembered how even then his family lived as members of a dynasty should. His father may have denied it until the end but he remembered.
And now it seemed Baron was receiving a taste of the distaste that Maxin had held for most his adult life.
"My Emperor, if I may" Baron spoke up, his voice trembling at first as he struggled to keep his composure, "it was our father's wish that he be buried here - I feel that we best serve his memory by allowing his last wish be honored."
Ah yes. Baron had always been more concerned with what his father wanted than what had been taken from him. For a moment Maxin felt a swell of pride for his brother. Even if he felt that he was wrong on this matter he knew it wasn't in his nature to openly protest The Emperor - even if so formally.
"He does deserve to be buried with our family" Maxin inserted his own voice right behind Baron's. He felt his brother's emotions shift focus. "Our family has a long and proud history - it would be shameful to not keep our traditions alive."
He didn't trust The Emperor's act as borne out of kindness. He felt no deception in him though...no matter how hard he tried. Perhaps he simply wanted to believe it was there. Regardless he would play his own games.
"It is a just decision, My Emperor. One I believe my father would agree with had he the time to consider it." Maxin turned to Baron and could read the anger in his eyes...but whether he realized it or not this was a victory.
Maxin said nothing more, but remained silent for The Emperor's reply as the admirals made their entrance and began their guard about Ronin's casket.
