Baron Fel (left) Ronin Fel (right) And now it seemed Baron was receiving a taste of the distaste that Maxin had held for most his adult life.
"My Emperor, if I may" Baron spoke up, his voice trembling at first as he struggled to keep his composure, "it was our father's wish that he be buried here - I feel that we best serve his memory by allowing his last wish be honored."
Ah yes. Baron had always been more concerned with what his father wanted than what had been taken from him. For a moment Maxin felt a swell of pride for his brother. Even if he felt that he was wrong on this matter he knew it wasn't in his nature to openly protest The Emperor - even if so formally.
"He does deserve to be buried with our family" Maxin inserted his own voice right behind Baron's. He felt his brother's emotions shift focus. "Our family has a long and proud history - it would be shameful to not keep our traditions alive."
He didn't trust The Emperor's act as borne out of kindness. He felt no deception in him though...no matter how hard he tried. Perhaps he simply wanted to believe it was there. Regardless he would play his own games.
"It is just decision, My Emperor. One I believe my father would agree with had he the time to consider it." Maxin turned to Baron and could read the anger in his eyes...but whether he realized it or not this was a victory.
Maxin said nothing more, but remained silent for The Emperor's reply as the admirals made their entrance and began their guard about Ronin's casket. The Emperor turns his gaze to Baron, the younger son of Ronin. He knew the two gentlemen, based on their ranks and careers. The Imperial never had the privilege of knowing them beyond that. The older was a Brigadier General of the 105th Legion. Respected and capable in his command. The younger was a starfighter pilot. Among the rising stars within the rank and file of the Imperial Navy's starfighter corps. These two were among the generation coming next, the ones who would advise his son and fight for him one day.The galaxy denied Cade Fel the right to be buried alongside your ancestors, Baron. The Unknown Regions... swallowed him up. Xeonon told me of his search, his extensive and thorough investigation, into the whereabouts and fate of the late Cade. Nothing was found. The path was as cold as ice...He falls silent for a moment, giving Cade a reflection. He had never known the Emperor before, but Xeonon, and Gabriel, painted a picture of the young and energetic man who revived his family, his empire, and the Imperial Knights. It was cruel that the galaxy took away Cade's body. When Xeonon had desired to seek out Cade's fate, Nicademus did not deny him his desire. The Imperial turns to glance at the casket of Ronin Fel.But I will not deny that to your ancestors.Nicademus returns his gaze back to Ronin's sons.I would rather Ronin be upset with me, in the next life, than have him be separated from his royal progenitors. I understand his desire to be buried here on Rendili. A memorial will be raised in his honor, nonetheless. An acknowledgement to what he did for the planet. But the body deserves to be laid alongside those that came before him. Those that wove the fortunes of your family and carved a destiny out of the stars. The Emperor glances away from the two to gaze at his own children. He sees Octavian look up at his father and give him a smile. A smile crosses his face in response. He would have wanted his family to be buried together. One day, even though Illaria's body was absent, the Emperor would be laid to rest beside her... then Faina Nikulin to follow, his children, and their descendants. Nicademus looks at Baron and Maxin after. As in life, even in death, a family must be kept together. It is the right thing to do.

Maxin's inner self raised a brow at The Emperor's words on family and legacy. He wanted to hate the man and he acknowledged the hatred and for a split moment he considered whether the hatred was misplaced. He followed The Emperor's gaze towards the casket and questioned to himself if the reason he hated The Emperor so much was so he wouldn't have to admit that his father was never the man he wanted him to be...the thought sank his heart and he pushed it away before reaching out to feel Nicademus' emotions as he spoke.
Still nothing other than what seemed genuine. Maybe he...
No. It didn't matter in the end, Maxin told himself. In the end The Emperor could have been as genuinely saddened by their father's passing as anyone and it would make no difference. At the end of the day the truth was still the truth. The Delvardus ruled what was rightfully Fel and to expect them to give it up was next to asinine. Power was power and no matter how well meaning The Emperor may have been he would not give up his legacy. Again Maxin followed the Emperor's gaze until it reached his own children.
Again, despite how much he wanted to continue hating the man, it became glaringly obvious just how human he was. Maxin's heart sank a little deeper as the weight of this confused his emotions even more. But as The Emperor turned his gaze back to him and his brother, Maxin stole one last glance at his father's coffin and let the darkness overtake his heart again - used it to fuel the anger he wished he could muster by himself.
No matter the truth there was a glaring reality that existed between the Delvardus and the Fels. Neither of them were willing to give up their family legacy and one day that fact would divide their paths.
Maxin aimed to ensure that his dynasty did not slither quietly into the night...even if that meant playing the part that disgusted him.
"Family is the foundation of The First Order" he said,"without family there would be no legacy to uphold and no examples to look back on. I only hope that one day I can serve as well as my father" to say he admired the way his father knelt to his lot in life felt like poison on his tongue, but a part had to be played.
"Perhaps serve in an even greater capacity than he did. There are many planets outside of Rendili that require strong leadership."
The swirling discontent he felt around Baron was suffocating. This was going to be an interesting family conversation later.

Having heard of the death of a Fel while he was above Camaas Xeonon had returned posthaste to Coruscant to meet with the Emperor. He had known that Nicademus would have planned to leave the planet to pay his respects. Xeonon was here to both protect him and to pay his own. If it had not been for the Fel Empire, for Gabriel Solomon he would have just been another escaped slave trying to survive and to keep his head down on the fringes.
Opting not to speak he instead stood at the back of the room keeping an eye on those within and making sure that any who entered did not mean harm to the Emperor, and in proxy the remaining Fels. Keeping his mind open he could even sense the others both within and without of the building. Although he did not feel the anger seething beneath his mental defenses he could sense the control the mind held and it was powerful. Xeonon had never met any of the members from this branch of the Fel line but he could see the resemblance to both Cade and Roan in the brothers that stood before him.
Hearing Nicademus speak the name Caed still shot a spark through his nerves all these years later. Caed had been a fool, brave but a fool. His plan to drive a knife into the heart of the Unknown Regions had been bold, and even now know one really knew what happened out there. Even as a few fleets returned and new leads were opened up they had lead no where. The trail was cold. Caed had no doubt perished. The Fel Empire had fallen into disarray until it was just a bunch of warlords fighting in the Deep Core.

Brother Eli entered the Temple, his white trenchcoat whipped around him in the heavy breeze outside before settling in the gentle aircurrents inside.
This large and imposing man stood tall at 7 feet. Inside his jacket, on a sling, hung a large caliber slug thrower, standard issue for the Inquisitorious. Brother Eli, a Confessor in the Inquisitorious, was always armed-- as were all members of the inquisition. The inquisition was a fanatical religious sect that worshiped Emperor Palpatine as the God-Emperor of All Mankind, and revered his creation, the Empire, as a divinely inspired gift to the galaxy.
Out of respect for this place, as well as for the dead, Eli removed his white wide brimmed preacher's hat. His bald head was a collection of scars, burns and deliberately carved into religious designs; most prominently, a large capital 'I' at the base of his skull. His deep-set blue eyes permanently glared out at all; his mouth, a perpetual frown encased in a large white beard.
He raised his hands in a religious gesture. "IN THE NAME OF THE ALL-FATHER, PEACE BE UPON THIS PLACE." His voice, deep and full, completed the benediction with an "AMEN." Although it was a personal prayer, in the quiet solemnity of the Temple it was audible throughout.
Brother Eli, a Confessor in the Inquisitorious, had previously taken the last rites of the deceased, Moff Ronin Fel, and was present at the temple at the deceased Moff's request to conduct a small service on behalf of the Fel family.
Brother Eli waited until various persons cleared the area by the casket, before he approached.
Standing by the Moff's head, He pulled a vial of liquid from a pocket of his coat and held it in his gloved hand. "By the Holy Waters of Shili, I bless thee. By the Moon of Endor, I anoint thee. Into the bosom of the All-father, I commit thee..." The inquisitor sprinkled droplets of the Holy Water from the vial onto the forehead of Ronin Fel. He then sprinkle dust from the Moon of Endor, the sacred resting place of Emperor Palpatine, onto Moff Fel's chest. "AMEN." The believers in the temple responded, "AMEN!"
Turning to those in the temple, Brother Eli raised his hand and blessed the mourners. "The EMPEROR Protects!" The believers among them responded to the chant: "THE EMPEROR PROTECTS!"
"LET US PRAY." He spread his arms wide to the heavens.
"O God-Emperor of All Mankind, we gather in thy name to morn the passing of thy faithful son. Ronin Fel, Moff of Rendili, was honorable and faithful to the Empire you created. Watch and guide over Maxin and Baron. Grant them strength that they may follow in their father's paths and in his ways. We praise thee and thy name, the days of out lives, that one day we may be worthy to dwell with thee. Though Lord Fel's absence pains us, we rejoice that he finds his way to thy holy halls. Grant a double portion of thy comfort to the Fel family this day, and let them be secure in the knowledge of thy goodness towards the faithful servants of the Empire." Brother Eli's face was strained, as if he really was somehow bridging the gap and communicating with the great beyond. "In the EMPEROR'S NAME, I PRAY, AMEN!" Brother Eli lowered his arms. "AMEN!" The believers in the temple responded. Finishing the short ceremony, Brother Eli approached the Fel brothers. His large frame was imposing, and his scars and features were even more striking up close. He spoke to them in a deep gentle tone. "Those that serve the Empire do the work of God and receive his blessing. There is no highest honor than to do one's duty with honor and loyalty. Your father..." Brother looked Maxin and Baron in the eye, each in turn. "would be proud of you, if you remember his life and live with the same Honor and Loyalty he did. The Dead never die, as long as we honor their memory, and let their fine example guide us. Keep him alive in your heart and you shall always have God's joy for his service." His words were spoken with absolute conviction, "I solemnly testify that this is the truth as I know it." Those unfamiliar with the force or the mental discipline of force wielders would feel a sensation as if their very being was melting from the heat of the pure distilled truth of the words being spoken. There was no room for doubt. "It is God's will." Eli's words burned.
"The All-father blesses you." Brother Eli blessed the elder son and made a religious gesture in the air. He turned to the other brother. "The All-father blesses you." Eli blessed the younger son and made another religious gesture in the air.
In this instance the experience was benign. Such an effect would have been far more powerful had the fanatical inquisitor been making bodily contact or consciously imposing his will on a listener. Inquisitors often made huge impressions on fertile minds. For the Fels, the effect would wear off once Brother Eli left them in a minute or two.

The Emperor turns to address Maxin, but does not speak as his attention turns to Brother Eli. The fanatic had recently been turned into a favorable investment for the Empire. It took some convincing, on the part of both Lord Havok and the Grand Marshal Baltasar, but at least both the Emperor and the Preacher were seeing eye to eye now more so than before. The Imperial quietly pats his son and daughter, indicating for them to turn and observe the ceremony. For now, Nicademus showed complete silence and respect for what was being done and said. When it was over, he kept his silence for several more moments as a respectful gesture to the deceased.
When that was over, he turns to his wife, the Empress, who quietly takes the children away. Nicademus turns to the sons of Ronin after. This is neither the place nor the time, General Fel, for such a discussion...Nicademus dared not say any further than a curt rebuttal. Maxin and Baron were among the coming generation and they had secured strong positions, not only because of their father's influence, but because of their own abilities. However, this a funeral! This was a time to mourn the dead and celebrate the life he lived and the services he rendered to family, to society, and to nation. Nicademus turns to the casket that laid before all.Another time, gentlemen. Another time.Nicademus would not tarnish this ceremony with politics of the Empire. If you desire to speak further, on the subject of the future, come to Coruscant, after an appropriate time of mourning. I would rather your father not be disrespected in such a way as to have politics disrupt the well-deserved peace he has been given for the long and bountiful life he lived. His eyes look between the two brothers. Is this agreeable, gentlemen?

The comment of The Emperor had bit Maxin hard. The insinuation he'd drawn from it - that somehow he was disrespecting his father - overwhelmed him for a moment. A pulse of anger no doubt ruffled the fibers of the force so as even the priest could feel it...yet as quickly as the anger was spurred it was doused by something foreign to his mind. The words of the priest reverberated themselves in his head and he felt himself melt into something akin to peace. He stood a little taller and embraced the calm assurance the preacher had imparted to him.
And he used it to calmly retort, "perhaps Your majesty did not know my father as well as you may have hoped. He would find no disrespect in his sons enshrining the family name into the great works of your Empire."
He smiled at The Emperor even as he felt Baron's eyes burning holes through the side of his head - the calmness of the preacher seeming to little to cool his temper. "He used to say to me, 'Death is not the end of your service - but the beginning of your legacy'. It is my duty as his son to safeguard that legacy."
He turned back to his father's casket. Baron's grief had been so unlike his. When the news first broke he had wept to Maxin...Maxin had comforted him but shed no tears of his own. Not even in private. He had expected Ronin's passing and it brought him more anger than sorrow. Not because he hated his father - to the contrary he loved him dearly. No, his anger had been built over the course of watching his father bend over backwards to please an Empire that appeared to only tolerate him because he'd bent the knee unlike more unlucky Fel.
So his grief had been a sadness that quickly turned to anger and that anger had been directed at The First Order. And now, with the calmness of the preacher flowing through him, he was able to look at the casket in without eyes glazed over by a lifetime of built hatred.
And he realized how much he missed his father.
"But you are right your majesty...thinking of the future is easier than accepting the present. Perhaps I need to see myself away after the ceremonies...take some time to process the present"
He felt the slightest shift in his brother's attitude, the anger swirling around him dampen slightly. Then he turned to the preacher, who he'd only offered obligatory politeness on attention until now. "Thank you, Priest, your words have..." he paused as he searched for a term that could describe the feeling that'd come over him, "...brought me perspective"

With news of Moff Ronin's death, the Kasalle household eventually arrived at Rendili, Baron Cassio Kasalle being flanked by 8 troopers of the Kasalle's household guard, their leader of the squadron being non other than Salvatore himself. Clad in armour with his helmet in his hand, the customized Stormtrooper armour gave him more the impression of an eastern warrior, a katana hanging at the side of his belt. Next to his elder father, the baron of the house, they simply watched the ceremony silently as bystanders, honoring the fallen aristocratic member. Salvatore's mind drifted briefly to the empty place next to his side, as usually Jenia would stand there... yet, the Grand Moff was occupied. Apparently glued to her new oversector, prefering duty over family. Yet he wasn't really surprised. Unlike him she was in the end a true Imperial.
With a stoic expression he simply watched the procession, seeing solely from the distance as the remaining Fels greeted the Emperor and everyone else, who came here to mourn the dead. Or pretended at least to do so. Compared to them, they nearly looked like uninvited bystanders, a pompous household from leftover imperial times of glory.

The Grand Moff, fought the urge to roll her eyes during the so called priest's rambles. She hoped that someone would find comfort in his words. She carefully studied the men around her during sermon. She may not have the Force, but she had gotten very good at body language. It often proved even more fruitful. So many people focused so much on hiding their emotions from Force users they forget about the regular people, and Force users are so used to reading people with their gifts, they miss to little clues. Standash made notes on all she was seeing, it would be valuable later.

"Thank you, Priest, your words have..." he paused as he searched for a term that could describe the feeling that'd come over him, "...brought me perspective" Brother Eli's white beard yielded to show his perpetual frown softened. "There are few things that can bring a life into relief than a reminder that our time in God's service is short." He of course meant the time in service of God's Empire. He almost smiled. Almost. It did not bother him to be called a priest- he was functioning as one at the moment. Administering to the suffering and broken hearted. These were priestly duties that still fell to Inquisitors on occasion... when they had gaps in their heretic-scourging schedule. Brother Eli would have to get back to that schedule soon. Yes, the time in God's service, was indeed short. "I take my leave." He piously bowed to Nicademus Delvardus, "Imperitor." The Inquisitor turned to the young Fels and excused himself with a nod, "Master Fel, Baron Fel." Brother Eli scanned the crowd as he left the temple. He could smell the stench of unbelief. In an earlier time, he would have halted the funeral entirely to begin hunting for the heathen, taking the crowd one by one as he... persuaded them to confess their sins, and profess their faith in the God Emperor of All Mankind. No doubt, these efforts might have saved many souls. Ah, but the understanding with the Emperor -God's voice made flesh- favored extending probation to sinners. If Inquisitor Kryptman were here... that Patron Saint of the Inquisition, how the wicked would flee. Brother Eli wondered if Lord Havok and his holy research might yet restore that saint to life... after all, as the psalm goes, "the power of God is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be... miracles."

Xeonon listened to the preacher speak and audibly snorted at his words. He did not need to believe in divinity. Nicademus was not the voice of an all powerful god, nor was his leadership divine right. He had taken it and seized that power to bring peace and prosperity to the galaxy. Why believe in a higher power when he could reach out and feel the Force, when one could conceivably achieve ever lasting life by becoming one with the Force. As he finished Xeonon walked up to The Emperor and leaned forward whispering in his ear so as to not offend anyone grieving, and offer a modicum of privacy. Sir with your permission I wish to remain with the body and escort it to Bastion. It would not do well for a Fel to return home without someone to watch over it.

Nothing changed within the Emperor's emotions as Maxin spoke. His eyes were simply turned with Brother Eli made his sermon and watched the priest for a moment. Then his eyes gazed at the casket, one more time, before they returned to the Fel. Nicademus' altered for a moment, but the emotion felt was that of disappointment. Disappointment in the words spoken.General Fel, I never once believed myself to know everyone. But I do know one thing that is imperative above all others: respect the dead when you are in their presence. The respect, that they deserve, supersedes everything else. We come to mourn the loss of your father and there will be no other talk besides that. The emotion came and went as quick as the Emperor's gaze did. His voice had become stern at the end, making it clear that the subject matter would be for a later time. He would not dare speak of politics nor break his own words doing so. Another, at his side, spoke to him, causing his attention to be turned away and focused elsewhere.Xeonon listened to the preacher speak and audibly snorted at his words. He did not need to believe in divinity. Nicademus was not the voice of an all powerful god, nor was his leadership divine right. Nicademus turned to Xeonon Solomon, one of the few remaining Imperial Knights who had former loyalties to Cade Fel. The Emperor understood the request made by one of his closest friends. Xeonon had been through the reign of two Emperors now, having assisted Cade in rebuilding the Knights and founding the revived Fel Empire. And then went on to assist Nicademus, from the post of Head of State to Emperor, just as he did with his former friend and liege. The Imperial does not even hesitate, he nods in agreement. As a former Grandmaster of the Imperial Knights, and not only my closest friend, but a dear friend to the late Cade Fel, I see no reason to deny this request. I will leave a small detachment of the 501st to assist in the guarding and escorting of the body to its proper place of rest.He then turns to Baron Fel, rather abruptly. You, and your squadron, will have the honor of escorting your father's casket from Rendili to Bastion. His remains will be transported upon a ship of your choosing. Make arrangements as soon as you can and inform me of them. I will make sure Bastion is aware of which ship. The Emperor then looks at the three.Maxin, Baron, when an appropriate time has passed, I offer an invitation to Coruscant. We can speak then. With that the Emperor fell silent as he turned to observe the casket.

Edethor housed a major installation that was, time and again, abandoned by those who ruled over the planet. It was a state-of-the-art complex that had endured since the time of the Mandalorian Wars, when the Galactic Republic had it house thousands of troops, vehicles, and starfighters as a major location to stage offensive and defensive operations. For a time, it was abandoned, neglected, forgotten. However, given Rendili's position along the southern border of the resurgent Empire, this installation was taken over by the Imperial Military and necessary measures taken to re-fortify it. With the aid of workers, organic and mechanical, from Rendili StarDrive, as well as labor brought in, the Imperial Army began to see this structure refurbished into a proud icon of the First Order's power and might. It would certainly become the center piece of defense and offense in the years to come.

Standash often had others in her staff do random inspections. Sometimes she wanted everyone to be sure that she was still Grand Moff. She arrived in the small office space she had set up here when she became Grand Moff. It was smaller than her office on Carida and much smaller than her oversector office on her Skyhook over Kuat. This was far more focused on function. It was nice to get away from the standard day to day setting. This wasn't a vacation, but it was still a nice change of pace.

The Grand Moff inspected the garrison. She was in charge of not just the politics, but the safety of her people as well. She met with the base commander and got a bead on his needs. She was interested in what ways the training could improve, having graduating cadets be ready for the life of a First Order Storm Trooper.

The garrison was doing very well. They understood the needs of protecting a major manufacturing center. They had to protect the interests of the company as well as the planet. They had special needs unique to their situation. Standash learned more about them and was a better leader for it.

Standash sought out the garrisons XO for a one on one conversation. She was curious if there was better training she thought was needed for up and coming storm troopers station in garrisons. It was difficult to to train an all encompasing group like storm troopers. They were part soldier, part police, part propaganda. There were some overlaps, but there were also a lot of contradictions. Standash hoped the XO could share some experiences that may make combining these roles in training easier.

The garrison was going well. Standash was now making sure that the fighter manufacturing was where it needed to be. This planet would be Vitaly important going forward in any conflict. Fighter coverage would be the only way to bring order to Correlia into order. As long as smuggling could thrive, there would be a resistance. Fighter coverage would be the only way to slow that.
