Jade ignored the flicker of danger that was the only overt indicator of NC's move. The resultant crack! slammed her head against the back of the seat and left her tasting coppery blood as she was already moving. Right hand dropping to the knife in her belt simultaneously with her left reaching for and igniting her other lightsaber, as she lunged for NC, knife blade pinning his ear to the back of the booth with a solid thunk! if he didn't move fast enough as the crackling blue blade flickered a hair's breadth away from his throat. "A lightsaber won't leave blood all over Aya's marble floors," she said in a harsh tone, indicative of having been pushed quite far enough and just waiting for an excuse to really get violent. Her green eyes were fairly snapping with emerald fire as she hissed, "wrong code, also, I was never really a truly good Jedi!" Whereas the traditional Order viewed attachments and emotions, especially anger, as dangerous she'd always found a strange exhilaration in combat, that moment where anticipation and perhaps even fear vanished in the heat of the moment. Given that, her lightsaber style had always been more aggressive than orthodox Jedi were comfortable with. She was much more practical, and the Order had been more idealistic. "I hear piercings are in this season...I'm sure Aya could fit you up with something useful."
In fact, if NC had known it, she had never before been so angry she'd used her honorblade in what was after all a domestic scuffle. That realization alone was enough to drain maybe a third of her anger, as she doused the lightsaber and gave a quick pull on the knife. She scowled at the blade, then dipped it in her glass of tihaar before cleaning it carefully and replacing it where it belonged.
As far as she was concerned the dangerous topic was closed and the account was balanced. Unless NC decided to unbalance it again.
She picked up her newly refilled glass "Exactly," she replied to NC's toast, "as long as it may be." She wasn't planning on killing herself, even if that was how he had decided to take it. But, as a Jedi things usually tended to go warped very quickly. This was one of the reasons the old Jedi Order had forbidden attachments. They added distractions.

-Aya A good knight is better than a bad night. But the best knights come fully equipped with tool to met any foe.
Aya watched as Ael proceeded to pin Non's ear to the stall backing with a knife. She had already ramped up her clock speed when Non made the first move. However, once she was certain the counterattack wouldn't be lethal she did nothing to stop it. Non was well past due for a good kick anyway. That & it would be good to see some fire in the woman that managed to claim her father. One of the few personal stories of him love life that Z'har had shared was being stabbed by this very woman the first time they met. It would seem that she was making a habit of introducing herself to the family with the pointy end of a blade. Aya was silently thankful they had met once already on Etti.

At first glance it appeared that Adelle hadn't heard Aya's rejoinder. Her gaze was fixed on Ael as she lunged with a still-blade knife and ignited her lightsaber. If the watcher looked close, they could see her eyes unfocus and grow distant, almost as if she was zoning out. In reality, her senses remained fully aware and became amplified as she tapped into the Force.
Easy, my friend, she told Jade. He's an idiot but loyal. He needs lessons, not daggers. Infuriating though he is.
She offered Ael her Force presence to fall into, calm and understanding and deeply sympathetic for the darkness Ael faced. All mortals may die but some Jedi could see it staring them down before it took them. Non could boast all he wanted about living life to the full but until he could look at death months in advance and accept it gracefully, his words carried no weight. Sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Adelle came to and her smirk grew wider. "Ah, but I am... what was the word? Jetii? We are skilled with or without tools. I would be more than happy to demonstrate."

As the ear is pinned, I wince slightly, though the light saber at my throat was completely expected and warranted no reaction. Albiet it was not the saber NC had anticipated it would be, but still drinks were poured the toast was made, and his ear would heal eventually, if Aya didn't take jade seriously and get him something for it... Not that NC would really care, it'd just be very impractical under his buy'ce. He shrugged, he'd succeeded in breaking the grip of doom upon the woman, so his job for now was done. the minor wound he'd incurred was well worth the accomplishment. She had after all caught buir's eye, and that was no easy feat by any account. Having signaled for another bottle, or three, he interjected into the conversation going on across the table.
"Oh? You're a jetii... what is the word? Escort?" Explains why TA calls her "E" all the time... "Offering a demonstration to boot, perhaps Jade and I should take our petty squabbling else where so you two can get on with more important business. Or was that offer for the entire table?"
I set a few creds on the table, while winking at Aya, to show I was purely jesting and mostly trying to move past the necessary violence without smothering the feeble spark in Jade's eyes. I grin widely, displaying pearly white molars, as three more bottles of tihaar arrive, though the server notes my bleeding ear and scurries away again. Belatedly I pull a small canister of bacta spray, and hit the ear, inside and out, before slapping a self adhering bandage to the same. The small bits of trash were left on the corner of the table, while the canister went back into the mini-medkit that resided on NC's left thigh pouch.

Jade could sense Aya's relief and could venture a guess as to the cause, but at Adelle's interjection she couldn't help a toothy grin, appreciating the silent moral support, as she nabbed one of the bottles of tihaar. She frowned for a moment in order to refocus.
Sometimes the knife is the lesson. It's harder to ignore.
However, the tendency to not bend totally over backwards to avoid violence had kept her on the fringe of the Order for many years. It was simply another tool to be used. She did not agree that NC was an idiot however. In fact, she suspected the two of them were more alike than he wanted to admit. Perhaps his anger even stemmed from an unwillingness to acknowledge that fact. But she did agree that he was operating from a few close-minded assumptions. Now that they had been addressed, the tihaar was at liberty to flow freely. After all, this was supposed to be a party.
She took a long drink of tihaar and hissed as the alcohol hit the broken skin inside her mouth and redefined the meaning of 'fire' in a very subjective fashion. Eyebrows arched as she shot a glance over at Adelle, taking in Aya and Tahu before smiling at Non-Com, meanwhile wondering why Adelle was presenting the front she had chosen for the evening.
"I think you're going to need more credits than that for the other side of the table alone," she interjected lightly as she went on to wonder what it would take to convince Aya to give NC a peculiarly odd-shaped piercing...his buy'ce didn't really allow him much wiggle room.

And more fun, I suspect. The equivalent of a wink through the Force was sent Ael's way, even as she felt an echo of the bite of the older Jedi's pain in her own mouth.
The short answer to the older Jedi's wonderings was "Why the hell not?" Writing an uptight Jedi all the time was no fun and characters lacked depth without mistakes, regrets, and flaws. Despite being a healer, Adelle could not heal herself and used bandaid solutions for all her issues, justifying it with a facade of sacrifice and self-denial. She was, truly, a messed up individual and had given up on professional help (since there aren't really many writers that want to get into that kind of nitty gritty), using sedatives and stims for her nightmares, alcohol for her survivor's guilt, and flings for her intense loneliness.
"Escorting is part of our duties, yes," she said with a grin to match Non's, far more predatory than a Jedi's smile had a right to be. If he was trying to have fun at her expense, well.... he could try. "I am an investigator and liaison agent with CorSec as well, so I do a lot of probing and pursuit, which occasionally leads to grappling with interesting characters. I'm also a skilled healer, which requires a more . . . hands-on approach. Observe."
She leaned over, slow and easy so as not to startle Jade, and touched her fingers to Jade's cheek, almost a caress. Her eyes lost focus as she felt the pulse, the flow of blood, the nerves bright with pain. She stopped breathing longer than a normal human should and when she inhaled again, it was in synchronicity with Ael's breathing. Adelle guided the cells to clot together, the tissue to build and grow and heal faster than nature itself could allow. The wound healed with no scarring, although it might take a moment for the brain to actually register that its nerves were no longer signaling pain. Adelle removed her hand, shaking a bit at the exertion, as a touch of drowsiness lapped at her own senses. Dammit, she'd forgotten about that aspect of Force healing.
"Healing and investigations aside, I do take a perverse delight in the dance of bladework," she said, attempting to keep the fatigue from her voice. "There is a certain . . . euphoric sensation when I've immersed myself in the flow of the Force in the middle of combat. Be it with sabers or hand-to-hand."

Jedi have always seemed a little 'uptight' in some regards, but that still leaves a lot of room for wiggling around and making mistakes. Anyway, it was probably a good thing that Jade had had multiple glasses of tihaar right now. It made her response to Adelle a bit politer than it might have otherwise been. For one thing she found touch to be highly invasive, as Z'har had found out to his cost on the occasion he'd been stabbed, and usually provocative of a painful reaction. Also, as she was conscious, barely injured, and lucid, she was surprised at the lack of inquiry as to the acceptability of the proceeding as that was something even normal medical procedures usually allowed for. She did not mind the knight's flirting with the others, in fact, if it made her happy and filled a void that was all to the good. However, she did not appreciate the attempt to turn her into a puppet to make a point.
Her lips thinned to a line as she realized the other Jedi's intent. "Not a good idea," she said, "if I require medical aid beyond my own skill, I'll ask for it. Besides, the momentary pain is acceptable as a distraction," she added, figuring that Adelle would understand that. If not, she gently, yet firmly reached up and halted her hand before her fingers would have touched her. Then she picked up the bottle of tihaar, and refilled Adelle's glass, shooting a look over at Aya.
"What did you put in her drink?" she inquired, doubtful that someone with the empathy she had displayed earlier would have made the move Adelle had just attempted of her own volition, unless under the influence of more than usual alcohol and perhaps a little something else.
She flashed the hint of a smile over at Adelle, the tihaar was overcoming the initial feeling of surprise at the woman's gesture. She realized that some humans were much more physical beings, but again, that was not at all something she was used to, or frankly, would ever be used to. The only individual she'd been truly comfortable with was gone, and he'd been both careful and understanding when necessary. Jade figured Adelle might not be too embarrassed, but the situation had been her own making after all.

-Aya Nothing, yet. Unless you count the normal alcohol content. We should perhaps not have any more displays of blade work tonight. I'd hate to have to fix up Non's ears more than is strictly required. Otherwise I might just have to get out the handcuffs.
Tahu gave a little snort of amusement at that. It was clear that she was fine with Aya flirting. She was actually even waiting to see if the jedi would do more than flirt back. If the two of them took too much more time though, she might just drag both of them away herself.

NC noted the distinct discomfort Jade radiated as Bastiel reached towards her, hmm. Another similarity, ... Osik. Well, couldn't be helped, and now the party was moving along pleasant lines. At the mention of blade work, NC wondered if Bastiel had ever used a solid blade before, for anything other than practice, but at Aya's caution he made a point of showing his sheaths remained full and untouched. True he was provocative bastard, but he rarely used a blade, and if it was being used on a sentient of late it was with lethal intent. It didn't help matters much that the blades were usually coated in a venom or toxin to ease the hunt.I fixed my own ear, so your attentions would be put to better use elsewhere. Anyone sober enough for a friendly game of sabacc? The suggestion was to give the group a reason to stay all together, if the members desired it, as the unifying point, Zaryna, was no longer the focus of conversation anymore and had lost it's grip. As it was a friendly game, no one would be losing their ship, or world, through out, garments on the other hand were not out of the question. Though everyone would be alloted a substantial allowance for the duration of the game so it would take a particularly unlucky, and/or inebriated, individual to find themselves in need of anything else to ante up with. To those less familiar with the game sabacc, it's effectively a variant of Black Jack. The deck is slightly different from a standard 52 card deck. That aside, unless you're all just itching for realism, we can just make this up as we go.

Adelle halted her hand before Jade needed to touch it, a little confused and admittedly hurt. For someone to reject healing felt a lot like rejecting her. It had been everything she worked for, everything she had built her new identity around. Her hand returned to her side."Forgive me," she said. "You were in pain." She pushed her chair out from the table and stood. "I, for one, am not skilled or drunk enough for games of chance. But please, by all means, enjoy the game. I hear a bottle of Whyren's calling my name." Her voice maintained the lighthearted, playful attitude she'd had before so none but the most discerning would be able to tell there was an emotional clusterfuck and sudden identity crisis going on. (Way to go, Mer. ) She walked to the bar and, with credits she found in a suddenly appearing pocket in her dress, purchased a bottle of Whyren's Reserve. Hello, Whyren's, my old friend. She popped the cork and started chugging. I've come to talk with you again. There was nothing Whyren's couldn't fix; from nightmares to feelings to social faux pas, it covered it all.

"For a given value of 'friendly,' Non?" she riposted lightly, quite willing to play.
Adelle's apology really hadn't been necessary, "nothing to forgive," she replied quietly, although the world of hurt emanating in a nearly visible cloud from the center of Adelle's Force presence was a strong indicator that the Knight was dealing with her own issues. (Sorry, Mandy, while I myself would oocly love a glomp/snuggle/sitting on the couch and watching a movie session, Jade's got a very good reason for avoiding contact.) Given the circumstances surrounding both as well as the unadvertised fact that Jade was a touch telepath, it would not have been a good idea either to let Adelle stroll around in her own mind, or take a walk through the trauma and pain she was clearly trying to hide. Unfortunately, that led to circumstances that just were not perfect.
Jade slid to her feet, "Sabacc sounds like a great idea, back in a minute."
She headed gingerly over to the bar and surreptitiously ordered a Pink Lizard Thunderbolt, the much stronger variant of a lovely Pica Thundercloud. As soon as the sparking drink was handed over she slowly headed down the counter to where Adelle was quickly getting intimate with a bottle of Whyren's Reserve. Fully aware that the less she said right now the better, as given the other woman's state of identity crisis everything was probably going to come off as either 'teachy' or 'judgmental' and fed into it, she pushed the glass in front of her. A miniature stormcloud of ionized gas was hovering over the top of it, while the glass zapped it with tiny shocks to simulate an electrical storm. "Try this, you'll be ready for sabacc in no time," she said, modulating her Force presence to warmth and hopefully something comforting. "My reaction to sudden physical contact is no reflection upon yourself, or your skill, and shouldn't be taken as such."
Finding that she'd remembered to bring her half-empty glass of tihaar with her, she took a long drink before inching her hand over towards Adelle's lying on the bar counter and waiting. "I can show you exactly what I mean, if you wish," she finally offered after coming to a decision. "You seem to have made a good impression on the table, specifically Aya, and Tahu seems more than curious to see where things will go."
She was willing to listen if Adelle needed an ear, but at least for tonight, she seemed to have available better ways to deal with whatever was bothering her than she would be able to find with Whyren.

She'd made it through nearly three-quarters of the bottle—a new record for her—when she heard the sliding of glass across wood. A bright pink drink that fizzed and popped and had its own thundercloud had appeared. Adelle set the bottle on the counter and turned to look at Jade. For a second she looked as if the older Jedi's words hadn't registered. Then she turned her gaze back to the apparently mesmerizing wood grain of the bar counter.
"I thought for once I could be around normal people," she said finally. "My writer even promised it'd be drama free tonight."
No I didn't.
"But no. Apparently mental issues are more interesting to write about than innuendos and double entendres." Adelle held up her hand to stop Ael from bringing her hand closer. "Don't open yourself up to me if you don't want to. I can't return the favor. Someone tried to break my mind."
She looked Ael square in the eye. "They succeeded. Don't do something I can't reciprocate." Adelle picked up the glass of fizzing drink and held it up to the light, mildly curious how it maintained its electric effects. It didn't look all that potent; more like the drink underage females would buy to either seem classy, sophisticated, or to get drunk without realizing it. She took an exploratory swallow. The sensation that followed could only really be described as a lightning bolt fused with fairy dust striking her brain. Her mind instantly went into the fog of a buzz. Adelle about fell off her chair with the suddenness of it.
"The hells is in this?" she asked. "Honestly, I think Aya's just looking for an excuse. I dunno about... Tahu? That her name?"
She took another drink. The shock of the lightning bolt wasn't nearly as strong but she could feel the buzz begin to flow through her veins. "Might as well go back to the table for that game. This is gonna be my undoing."

"Normal?" Jade (well, her writer mainly) positively grinned wickedly as she glanced back at Aya, Tahu, and NC before looking over at Adelle again. "Oh you've come to the wrong place for 'normal,' unless she meant people who are working through their own issues and challenges. In which case everyone might be classified as normal."
"Perhaps now isn't quite the time then," she nodded acceptance. "It has nothing whatever to do with the Force, and as you can tell, while it has advantages it can also be misunderstood," she shrugged, then picked up her now unfortunately empty glass, while her writer giggled over the reaction to the thunderstorm drink. "Isn't curiosity where everything begins though?" Of course, it could also lead into bad things, but people needed curiosity in order to keep moving. Otherwise everything comes to a screeching halt.
"I discovered that in a cantina of practically non-existent health standards, so I didn't ask," she kept an eye on Adelle in case the other woman suddenly slumped to the floor, "I am told it is highly dangerous, but it does give one a nice buzz, medical aid is within reach, and you looked like you could do with something surprising. Not to mention the thundercloud effect. I shall figure it out for myself one day." She slid to her feet.
"If Tahu is with Aya, then I doubt you'll be able to surprise her," she remarked quietly as they headed back to join the others, "but I suspect you'd have fun trying."
Jade enjoyed playing sabacc, but it had been a long time, and playing with those present would add its own peculiar challenge to the already tricky game of luck. As she resumed her seat down from Non-Com she re-possessed the bottle of tihaar and filled her glass again.

Aya watched the little exchange & then the return of the jedi. She was, however, polite enough not to tap into the security feeds in order to listen in. As the two jedi settled back into the booth, Aya waved at the stack of cards that had appeared on the table while no-one was looking.
-Aya Shall we begin the game? Cap the bets at. Well, let's say five credits or a piece of clothing. Per hand of course.

NC dealt everyone in; three cards and one stasis chip, to freeze a card's value, apiece. The randomizer sat in the middle of the table. The remainder of the deck was placed atop it for now. He looked at his cards, 3 of flasks, 5 of sabers, and a Demise... great, a value of -5 for this hand. Well, that is until things changed... He set his cards face down in front of him, with the stasis chip on Demise. Then he looked to his left, at Jade, she would start the bidding. He noticed the saber she'd put on the table for him to pass on was still sitting there... he took it and clipped it to his utility belt. He wasn't going to let Jade just vanish on her girl, but he'd do his part.
You're up Jade; what'll you wager?

Jade accepted her cards and eyed them in silence while her writer desperately tried to remember how to write a sabacc game, something she used to really like doing! Unfortunately, this might take awhile to happen. She considered throwing in her left boot and knocking everyone out...a 4 of Staves, a 2 of Coins, and a 6 of Flasks. Oh dear. She left her stasis chip where it was, hoped the cards would change, and put forth an opening wager of "Two credits, let's see what happens."
She had noticed NC's action of taking the lightsaber. It certainly took him long enough.

"My apologies, —" How did one address a recently discovered Empress? "— my lady. It seems Jade is already getting me kriffed up," Adelle said as she walked back over to the table.
Adelle's writer was at a worse disadvantage than Ael's was, considering the writer had never written Sabacc before. And with a starting hand consisting of The Evil One, a 5 of Coins, and a 3 of Staves, she wasn't quite sure she had a good hand. But, Adelle supposed, that was the beauty of the game: the hands could change at any given moment. She took another swig of the electrifying drink and shuddered with delight at the buzz. There wasn't much more she could do, given that her writer had no brain energy left to spare and that she had effectively incapacitated herself with this drink.

Aya waved off the titles as she glanced at her hand.
-Aya Just Aya is fine when we are gambling. Titles are well & good at formal functions, but just get in the way everywhere else. I call.
Two more credits joined the small pile in the middle of the table. Her starting hand was exceptional with a 1 of Flasks, a 9 of Staves, & an 11 of Staves. She slipped all three of her cards into the stasis field, it was a bold move. It would protect her hand, but the others would have to decide if she was bluffing to rattle the table or actually had a hand that would win. With a combined total of positive 21 that put her just under the goal of positive 23. Only a few hands could beat that & she had gotten extremely lucky with her first hand. Only time would tell how it would hold up though.
Tahu kept a perfectly straight face when she glanced at her card. She was well versed in not letting others get a read on her emotions or thoughts, a habit gained from long years as a high profile bodyguard. Of course, it was difficult with a hand full of sabres. The 15, 13 & 5 to be exact. That put her well over the goal of 23. Hopefully, the randomize would knock that down a bit. Until then, she pitched in her own two credits into the pot & slipped the 13 & 5 into the stasis field. With the 15 still in her hand & open to being shifted.

being the arrogant prick he was, NC raised the bid by a single cred, more to fore the betting to go another round than prove anything, but also to plant a seed of doubt where he could. A little ember of devilish glee, burned within him, little else of interest was discernible to his opponents. He saw the two cards he was holding ripple, and change. So the stakes had also changed... NC now held Demise in stasis, and the 15 and 8 of staves in hand. Pity he didn't have the Idiot instead of Demise... alas his hand was now worth ten points. He highly doubted he'd be winning this hand. Still, his bid was made, so he looked to Jade; would she call or fold?

As the randomization flicker crossed all her cards leaving her with a lovely new hand adding up to eight! (1 of Staves, 3 of Coins, 5 of Flasks) she grinned, eyed NC, picked up her glass of tihaar, finished the whole thing, set it back on the table, and decided to fold. This time. She snagged another bottle of tihaar and filled up everyone's glasses while they continued the hand.
