Gavin made his way into the training area earlier than the students. There were things he needed to prepare for in the day's lesson and he didn't wish to disturb them while they trained, nor did he wish to be late in only waiting for them to finish. It was a bit of a task, using the Force to carry in some large and heavy blocks. Each was as wide as his shoulders and as tall as his knees. Today would bring about lessons in Force techniques. With their refined control they had been doing, they had picked up on the skills of Telekinesis, even if they didn't know it. With small and many being the constant, it was time to start adding in larger and heavier items so round out that control. But that wouldn't be all. They'd work in halves, half working to further their Telekinesis while the others would work on Force Push and Pull. Core abilities, but helpful nonetheless. With everything in place, all that was left to do was wait for them to arrive.

It didn’t go unnoticed at Gavin’s early arrival as the the students came in to begin their daily training. Fourteen large boulders and seven practice dummies being set up also added to the curiosity levels. Just what were they going to be learning that required these things? Though curious and excited, they all broke up into their pairs, especially at the prompting of Gavin to focus on that instead of the new additions to the training area.
As they went, some of them began altering how they went about their training. Krokaa and Duvrax added in bits of one handed use, gained from their extra hour of training the day before. Xar and Zul began showing signs of particular lightsaber moves that they were able to gain with their quick study ability. The rest still worked hard in progressing and mastering what they currently knew.

Gavin watched as the students begun the training, moving about to inspect them. He was quite surprised by how a few had taken the initiative to try and adapt to new patterns and moves he had yet to show them. First, he stopped and observed the Zabrak pair as they went about their session, keening observing how and when they switched between a two-handed grip and a single. He had given them an understanding of handling it in such a way but had yet to actually set them on that course of training yet. While there were a few rough spots, he could tell this wasn't something they were experimenting within this moment but was something they had been working at a little. He gave a smirk as he thought on the level of dedication and commitment these two held to their training, no doubt choosing to spar again either after the lesson the day before or earlier in the day. It was a wonderful sight to see, knowing that they were so eager to learn, they sought to progress themselves even when not in the training area, but not attempting skills that were currently beyond their limits. That was the growth he wanted to see. After a few minutes, he nodded and verbally passed his approval to them before moving on.
It was then he noticed the spar between Xar and Zul. While still holding to a two-handed grip, he saw them perform particular moves that had yet to be shown to them but were clearly in line with his request of them before. Lightsaber combat techniques. There were a few that stood out to him, such a the Flowing Water technique and the Falling Leaf. Once again he found himself standing there for a few moments longer to watch how they progressed. He had in mind a few different velocities in mind to help bring these techniques home, but that would be for another day. After a bit, he nodded well enough that they could see his approval and moved on.
As he continued moving through the group, the majority continued to flow with what they had learned in the recent lessons. He wouldn't doubt that each of them had been studying, but had opted to stick with what they had been shown, seeking to master or at least grow well enough in those focuses before taking on something new, especially if they hadn't been shown. He approved of this just as much of an initiative the few others were showing. They might not have attempted to go a little farther in their downtime, but they still showed a dedication.
For the next three hours, he watched as they went about their sessions, only calling them once time had gone out. "Alright guys, bring it in. It's time to get started." Once they were all close, he began. "Today, I'm going to teach you a few of the core Force techniques that are a vital part of your move set. Please, direct your attention to the boulders behind you. Telekinesis is one of the most practiced abilities within the Force and encompasses a large range of skills. Through your refinement training, for as basic as you might have thought it to be, is quite advanced in how I'm making you do it. But because of that, this part should be easy as you all know how to lift things and manipulate them while in the air." He then reached out with his hand, lifting four of the boulders. "I want you to use that knowledge to lift these boulders. However, they are bigger and heavier than the little stones you have been using thus far. But this makes no difference. It is only different in your mind. You must learn to see it as the same. Once you let go of that, lifting heavier objects will be easier. But don't mistake me, lifting heavier objects is harder only because you must exert more energy to lift it. This exercise is to break the mental barriers of saying it's too big or heavy so it can't be lifted and teach you how to use the right level of energy to lift them." He then set the boulders back down before redirecting their attention.
"Now, look to the dummies. Utilizing what you have learned within the Force thus far, you can focus its direction to a much greater level to either push or pull objects." He then demonstrated by pushing out with his hand, using the Force to push the dummy back a few feet, then pulled his arm back to pull it towards him a bit. "Focus the energy that exists in front of you and by pushing out, you create a Force Push. This acts like an extension of you pushing out with your hands or creates a wall of energy that pushes into something or someone and forces them back, either sliding across the floor or flying through the air, depending on how strong you make it. With the proper focus and application, one can even make this ability rather destructive. But please, for now, avoid trying that. Now, just as you use that energy to push, you can also use a Force Pull to bring it back to you. Either being like a wall and sending them your way in a chaotic manner or being refined by actually gripping your target with the Force and focusing your pull there. It's how you can draw people into your hands or even return a lightsaber to it should you lose it."
Seeing that they seemed to understand, he continued, ready to break them into groups. "Alright, I'm going to divide you into two groups. Half of you will work with the boulders while the others work on Force Push and Pull. After thirty minutes, I'll switch you up. And for the boulders, lift no more than two of them at once for the moment. That way everyone with you has the same amount. Now, Duvrax, Krokaa, Theranna, Raara, Carvish, Elysta, and Zul. I'll have you guys starting with the boulders. Cinnik, Cayne, Prakira, Kosrezic, Xar, and you two will work on the Force Push and Pull with the dummies. Now let's get started."

Ending the current sessions, the students approached Gavin as he begun teaching them the next steps of their training. When he mentioned working on a few Force abilities, each of their faces beamed with excitement. Even if they were the basic skills, it was something more, something that could carry them along.
First, they turned and watched as Gavin lifted four of the large boulders, impressed by the action. They were only experienced with small stones, despite the number they were currently up to. It seemed like something else entirely, making most feel as if it was only because of his skill that he could do so. But as these thoughts came over them, Gavin worked to quell that thought, making it a point that it wasn't something capable by the truly skilled, but even by them provided they applied themselves and practiced for a bit. It would be an obstacle, though, to rid their minds of the doubt of its size and weight.
Then they moved to watch his work against the dummies. It was a surprise that they wouldn't be learning a single technique, but three different aspects. One of them may have been what they were already doing, but it was still just as much a new task as the others. Breaking up into their groups as instructed, they all took their places in front of each of the objects they were assigned to. For the next thirty minutes, they began working on getting the hang of these abilities.

Gavin watched as the minutes ticked on, spending the first ten or fifteen minutes simply watching each of them and how they were progressing on their own. It was much easier than expected having already been manipulating things with the Force. The only hurdles they seemed to face was getting past the mental barrier that made everything seem heavier, harder, and more difficult. Eventually, he began passing a few tips along to help them.
As the thirty minutes came to an end, he called for them to switch it up. Following the same process, he merely watched for a time before offer advice. It was pleasing to see their growth, and how they took their previous lessons and applied it to what they were currently doing. Just as he hoped would happen, the basics were the foundations for everything that came after. The better their skills in the basics, the better they could use them to develop the advanced skills.

Despite what Gavin had said about using the Force in lifting boulders, it still took time to move past that train of thought. But slowly they got the hang of it. Bit by bit, each of the seven working on the rocks began working with lifting a single boulder with hands straight out. As they moved past the thoughts of how heavy the objects seemed, they were able to apply more energy. Slowly, they got the rocks a bit off the ground, then up to head height. Only Duvrax, Krokaa, and Zul managed to get two boulders into the air, though they all managed to get them high into the air.
As the first team worked with the boulders, the second team worked on Force Push and Pulls. It started with mere small fluctuating waves as if being pushed back and forth by brushes of wind. But just as the boulder team, they, too, began to push past what mental barriers held them back as they began to grasp what they needed to do. Bit by bit, the dummies moved more and more. Eventually, Xar and Prakira reached the point to actually move the dummy across the ground.
When it was time to switch, they moved, taking the knowledge they gained to apply to the next exercise. In the end, proved helpful as each team started better at their new task. Though Gavin offered up pieces of advice to them, there wasn't much they needed to know. It was all about adjusting to it in their use of power and getting over the mental aspects and it wasn't something that just happened instantly. Perhaps over a couple days for the reality to sink in, but not in a single session.

After all, Gavin stepped back and just watched as they all worked their way through their exercises. In the end, they didn't need any advice on what to do. It was already there, the knowledge they needed. The only thing left to give them was more practice and time. But for the moment, their time had reached its end. Giving a couple claps, he summoned them to him. "Alright guys, well done. That's it for today. Tomorrow, I want you all here four hours early. Use that extra hour to do as you did today, half and a half on these techniques for thirty minutes each. Yes, I know it's becoming a lot, but the more time you spend training now, the more effectively you learn. There is no shortcut to gaining power and strength. The Jedi believe the Dark-side is the quick and easy path. But that is why so many Jedi fall. They fail to realize that while you can gain destructive power quicker, it is only because it is easier to destroy than it is to be patient and seek other options, such as restraint. Mastering the power of the Dark-side takes no less dedication, patience, and work. That's why I want you all here. There's no shortcut, as I said, but if you dedicate yourselves to the effort and spend the time learning instead of a little bit here and a little bit there, you'll grow much quicker than you realize." He looked at each of them with a smile before motioning to the door. "Alright, now get out of here."

The week continued on as Gavin flip-flopped between training his students in Shii-Cho and the three Force techniques he had them working on. Each day they were progressing, not only in skill but in knowledge. It was clear that outside of the five hours spent in the training area, they were spending more time training on their own both in practice and in study. Things he hadn't even taught them yet were being displayed in their sessions. Each time he saw something new, he spoke with those that practiced it and gave them advice in helping them progress. Soon it would be time to further their lessons in Force techniques and training to use Jar'Kai and double-bladed lightsaber combat.
But that would have to come later. There was a matter that he needed to tend to, one that he had been holding off on for far too long. It wasn't a big ordeal as his time was spent helping his students hone their skills, but he had promising Luxeria he'd visit her on Mustafar and begin the next parts of her training that he had for her. He also had a gift that needed to be given as well.
As the session came to an end, he called the students forward. "Well done, all of you. You have progressed well over the past week in the few things you have learned, making me proud to be your instructor. However, I will be leaving for a short time to Mustafar to speak with another I have been training. I shouldn't be gone more than two weeks. In the meantime, I want all of you to continue your training just as you have. I expect to see all of you improved even more than you are now. When I return, should you all have gotten better at these things, we'll start on the next lessons. Dismissed."

It was far from an easy thing, spending so much time training to further themselves. But the months had worked to increase their stamina, making it less draining each time they trained. As they had been instructed, a battle rarely lasted more than a few minutes. If they could have the stamina to fight with full force for hours on end, then facing an opponent for ten would be nothing.
Bit by bit as the week went by their skills improved as each new revelation and understanding sunk in. When it came to lifting small rocks, they had all gotten to manipulating twenty rocks in up to four different directions while the larger rocks had them all now lifting two of them without hands and beginning to spin them in one direction. Without the mental barrier in place, their Force Push and Pulls had gained their effectiveness, now able to send the dummies flying back and forth under the control of the Force. With their growing mastery of the basics of unarmed combat, they were all able to start moving away from the fundamentals and start implementing their own flare to the mix, making it less practiced form and something more their own. The same was true of the Shii-Cho training. Gavin had gone on the have them start trying to attack with but a single hand as well as teaching them some of the maneuvers designed for the form such as the Disarming Slash and the Sarlacc Sweep.
When Gavin called them together and told them that he would be absent for the next couple of weeks, there was a slight dip in their enthusiasm. But they would continue to work hard while he was gone, especially at the promise of learning new things once he returned. At his dismissal, they all gave a bow before departing the area.

It was the first day back in the training area since Gavin's departure and all the students arrived, determined to keep at it in their instructor's absence so to keep moving forward and show him their dedication. But in the couple of days since being told, he was leaving, Krokaa had been thinking over a few things. As the others arrive, he spoke to them.
"I think we should try something different. We've been progressing well with our training, but I think we should change it up a bit."
"Gavin told us what we needed to do. Why do we need to deviate from that? If we try something else, we'll start lacking on what he's been teaching us and be unable to move on to the next lesson. He's counting on us to keep at it." Prakira stepped forward as she spoke. While she was up for learning new things, Gavin wasn't here. And for one of them to make a call about that didn't seem right.
"I don't mean learn something new. But think about it. For nearly five months, we have trained only with one partner. We've gotten used to each others style. But what about everyone else? Everyone is a different in how they fight and if we want to become better equipped to fight a different opponent, I think it would be wise to change things up and learn to fight with others in the group."
Duvrax then stepped up, curious as to what his friend had in mind.
"So basically, we keep at what we're doing, but switch our partners. That way, we keep doing what we're told, but further our knowledge and experience in fighting others with different approaches instead of being tunnel-visioned by one approach. What did you have in mind?"
"While we could, just switch partners up each day, I have a different idea, something that'll really keep us on our toes. What we do is make two circles. The outer ring will be the A group and the inner will be the B group. We line up with our partners and start the session with them. But when I say switch, everyone switches to the right while trying to stay in combat as much as possible. No stopping to move. When you switch, you dive into the next spar. What do ya'll think?"
There was some murmuring from the group as they discussed it a bit. Duvrax looked around at them before returning his gaze to Krokaa.
"I say we do it. It'll definitely keep us moving as we keep switching around." After a few moments, the others agreed with Krokaa's plan. Lining them up, he went through a demonstration with them so they all had the directions and timing right. Once he was certain of it, he started them with unarmed combat before making an immediate switch to lightsabers. He wanted to prove to Gavin that they could be trusted to grow and progress in his absence. While he suspected the man would have had them training with different people before long, he wanted to take this opportunity to push ahead.

Gavin made his way into the training area to see his students already hard at it. But he was surprised to see them doing something other than what he instructed. Standing in two circles, they fought with each other for a small amount of time until he heard Krokaa speak and then they shifted to another in the circle. He stood there, hidden in the doorway, watching as they went through their exercises, taking in this new approach that they had come up with. A rather ingenious way of getting everyone adapted to fighting different opponents. And to do it randomly and expect them to switch quickly and easily meant that they could easily divert their attention to another without being distracted, without hesitation, and without thought. He hadn't even thought about doing that before. And here they were, already doing it themselves. But the question was, who thought of it?
He waited the whole time, watching them switch between unarmed and armed combat, not once stopping the circle. That was even more of an interesting thing, seeing them activate their sabers quickly while switching opponents meant quicker reflexes. After that, they continued on with their normal exercises, splitting up as required. When the time came to an end, however, he stormed in. "What in the name of the Force are you all doing?! Get over here now!" He waited until all of them had gathered before going on. "Can someone explain to me why you are doing things that I haven't instructed you to do? Who told you to practice your combat skills like you just were?"

For the past two weeks, the students went on about their training as they had established it, thanks to Krokaa. While it was a strange feeling to fight with other people, much less witching up like they were, it was only a few days before they had adapted to the new method. They were starting their third week and they still had no idea that Gavin had made his return. It made them all jump when the next thing they heard near the end of their session was Gavin yelling at them, wondering what the hell they were doing. When he summoned them to him, they moved quickly as to not further incite his anger. When he asked, there was only a moment of silence before Krokaa stepped up.
"I'm the one who came up with the idea and had everyone do it. I took the initiative and chose to start use working on facing off with different people to better prepare us for fighting anyone we'd come across. I know it's not what we were instructed to do. So if anyone needs to be punished, it should be me alone."
It wasn't a seoncd afterward before Duvrax stepped up.
"No, you came up with the idea, but we all agreed to it willingly. We all agreed it was time to step up our game and look to furthering what we knew and how to make it more effective." The rest began to step up with Duvrax, nodding and agreeing with his words.

Gavin listened as Krokaa stepped up. It was an impressive feat that such a young one in the ways of the Force and combat was able to sort out this method. It was also admirable that he wasted no time in stepping up and taking the blame so to spare his friends. Not a trait one would typically associate with the Sith, but with this new order, loyalty to each other was just as much as a necessity in Gavin's mind. It was further surprising that the others stepped up to defend him, the first being Duvrax, claiming that they went with it willingly and weren't going to let him be punished alone. It made him that much prouder of his students and that much more confident in their training.
"Enough!" He took a moment to look at each of them before going on. "If that is the case, then well done. All of you are truly growing and learning how to progress yourselves the proper way. I'm proud of you all. It is a very effective method, not only getting you all adjusted to fighting different people but also to eliminate your need to think about your actions, how to redirect your attention to another opponent without hesitation and to develop much quicker reflexes. From now on, that will be how you all practice your armed and unarmed combat. During actual sessions though, we'll stick to one on one with your assigned partners until you get a good handle on all I'm looking to teach you for the time being. Then, you'll have different partners every time. But for now, let's get started with today's lesson."
He then turned towards a dummy nearby and lifted a hand to it, unleashing a barrage of black lightning from it. He held it for a few moments before ceasing his attack and turning back to the students. "Today, you'll begin working to master Force Lightning. Unlike the other few abilities you have been working on thus far, you must let yourself slip into the Dark-side of the Force. While it'll be a while before you are all truly ready to actually use Force Lightning, we can start by teaching you Force Shock, the weaker variation. First, I want all of you to close your eyes and begin diving into the Force as you have been. Once you are there, think back on your anger and frustration with me, the Sith, and all else that has happened in your life. Let that bleed into the Force and let it shift to darkness." He watched as they all did as he instructed them. It took a few minutes but eventually, they all were touching the Dark-side. "Now, go and grab a dummy to practice with."
As they all began to split up, he began to explain the basis for the attack and how to manifest it. "To utilize the power of lightning, you must first direct the energy within yourself down your arms and into your hands. With that energy, unleash it by letting it discharge as you see from a static shock. You can direct that energy from your hand to a specific target. Now begin. The goal for today is to release a single short stream at the dummies." He knew that figuring out how to create that discharge would be the difficult part and it wasn't something he could just tell them. It had to be figured out. Only then would they truly grow and make the power thiers.

They all gave a sigh of relief when Gavin commended their work, deciding to implement it into the current regiment. But there was little time to pat themselves on the back as Gavin was ready to begin their next lesson. Wide eyes were the response when he mentioned they'd learn Force Lightning or at least start working towards it. It was the most well-known ability of a Sith and he was going to have them start working at it with only five months of training. It felt like a step up for many of them.
Doing as he instructed, they all began to close their eyes and draw on those old emotions. For a few, it was easy as much of the anger and hate existed still or was still fresh from Gavin's previous approach. Others took a little longer, but within a few minutes, they all could feel the Dark-side within them. They all then scattered, grabbing a dummy and moving it so they were all separated. Focusing the energy they felt within them, they channeled it down their arms and into their hands, but that was the easy part. Trying to figure out how to discharge it in a way to create electrical energy was another matter entirely. Even the like of Xar and Zul with their advanced level of learning and even Duvrax with all his potential couldn't immediately figure out how to do it. No wonder why Gavin gave them a goal point that seemed so small for this lesson. Even with a low grade version, it was still more advanced than simply lifting objects and moving them

Gavin watched as they went on for an hour. Though it took a little bit they all were able to eventually create that spark that met the requirements. But there was still a fair bit of time at that point before the classes end so he let them continue. If there was anything he knew about the group it was that they were satisfied by just reaching a set goal. If there was room to grow, they'd keep pushing, be it here or outside of the class. He was curious to see how much more they'd grow.
By the time the class came to an end, they all had a single solid focused stream of energy surging from them to the dummies. Of course, there were a few who were able to go farther and unleash two. That focus and previous emotions built into them already had done a solid job or preparing them. But their time at an end, he called them together and dismissed them after giving them their instruction for the next day's early training which involved them adding their practice in lighting.

The hour passed them by as they continued to progress through their training. They all felt they had reached or surpassed the goals for the day, even though by Gavin's standards they had all surpassed it. With all of them elevating from simple short shocks, they had actually begun to touch the very low end of Force Lightning itself. There were a few, like Xar, Zul, Duvrax, Cayne, Elysta, and Krokaa that had expanded further, mostly due to the potency of their emotions or ability to learn at a quick pace.
When Gavin called them together and let them go, most left, though Duvrax, Elysta, Cayne, and Prakira stayed behind to continued training in the art, determined to carry on a bit farther before the day's end. When they'd finish a couple hours later, Duvrax and Elysta would have jumped up to three solid streams with Cayne and Prakira solidifying two streams. Just to top off their time, they also worked a bit on the other techniques Gavin had taught them already before finally calling it a day.

The next day came quickly as Gavin watched the students enter and begin their sessions. Four hours of training going through the new method implemented by Krokaa for their combat skills. Already after two weeks of doing it in his absence they were showing decent skill. From their they spent time working on their Force techniques.
Once they had finished, he called them forward. He told them the next step of their training, working to increase their skill from a single lightsaber to the Jar’Kai form. He explained that the form wasn’t a completely new form but a variation of the original forms by using two sabers. True there were techniques that could only be done with Jar’Kai but in the end, they were ultimately learning how to do Shii-Cho with two sabers. Once he was sure they understood what he was talking about, he set them off to begin working on it.

With focused dedication, Gavin's students returned and went about their pre-lesson sessions. Each day they fought harder, pushed further than the day before, seeking growth. And so it came, slowly, but surely. It was made clear that power, proper and true power wasn't gained overnight, but crafted through countless hours of work, of trials of failure before finding the right path to progressing forward.
When they finished with their first four hours of training, it came time for their actual lesson. Another day of new things as Gavin instructed them in the use and form of Jar'Kai. It was stated that whether any of them would choose to make this a style they frequented was entirely their choice, but it was required they know how to use the form well enough in case it was needed some time down the road. Once split up, they worked with their partners like they always did, moving slowly through the form at first, only to speed up as they grew accustomed to it.

The week went on by as Gavin continued to work his students in the art of Jar'Kai and Force Lightning. He'd need to have them work at it for another two weeks before he'd moved them forward once more. By the end of their first year of training, he hoped to have them well set in the basics and able to begin branching off into their own. For as good as the basics were, they were all different, needing to follow different paths. It wouldn't be an easy path for some while others would know exactly what they desired of themselves. Just another reason he wanted to get them started down that path.
Once they had finished with their last lesson of the week, Gavin gave to them their newest assignment. He had set up for them twenty mental mazes, starting with a group of the largest sizes he could find within the academy. While normally a training tool of the Jedi, it was just as effective in being their mental control. He also guessed that they'd eventually figure out other things from the process as well. Once the first twenty had been completed by a student, they would be able to progress to the next twenty he found of a smaller size. There were three separate sizes gathered and ready for use.

Time continued to pass as Gavin worked on training his students. They had continued to grow at an exceptional rate. While he would take a bit of credit for his methods, the largest part the credit went to them. Their dedication and focus was what carried them through and made them strong. It could be easily seen if one compared how they were now to how they were before the incident with Duvrax. They were willing and accepting of their lessons and his methods and that made all the difference.
And now, they had reached a year's worth of training. Not only were they becoming skilled in the Shii-Cho combat for, but they were becoming just as skilled in the Jar'Kai and double-bladed variations as well. Their focus and control of the Force was reaching advanced levels already as they were all manipulating forty rocks down to the size of a pebble, each stone manipulated in four different ways, each stone as different as it could be from the others. From there they grew in combat Force abilities, nearly mastering Force Push and Pull by now and even moving up the chain to Force Wave in both a push and pull style. Then came Force Lightning, the definition of Sith skill. The months of training had brought them average skill in the art, more than capable of combat usage. Finally, their unarmed combat was coming along just as masterfully as their skill in lightsaber combat. While no definite form was currently in effect, their knowledge for freeforming was more than effective enough, making them unreadable without definite form. Coupled with the knowledge they possessed in hitting vital organs and pressure points, they were deadly even without a blade.
But that was just what they accomplished when in the training area. Their knowledge in the Force, in history was growing as well. The path of the Sith, the Jedi, and the Force was developing well in their minds. Then came their mental fortitude. While he hadn't work to invade their minds, he could feel them growing stronger due to the use of the mental mazes. Bit by bit, every aspect was growing, making them capable in many respects, and, by his opinions, just as effective as some students who had been training for years
Proud of what they had accomplished in a single year's time, he called them to him as their last session of the week came to its end. "Very well done, all if you. It's been a long year, but you all have come a long way since that first day our lessons began. I'm giving you guys a week off from training. If you still wish to train and keep improving, then by all means, do it. But there will be no lessons, no scheduled time to be here. When we start back up, we begin learning a few new things, such as using the Force to enhance your body and how to fight unarmed versus a weapon. But that's all for now. Congratulations. Dismissed."
