As the night drifted on, there was no sign of Tyra within her dreams. For as long as she could recall, Tyra's appearance had come every night. Sadness began to fill her, her night time security no where to be seen. But before the tears could fall, a thought came to her. Tyra had always been there through her hardships, living in sadness and anger, always alone. Now she had Gavin; perhaps that's why she wasn't there. With someone who'd truly be there and keep her happy, she had no purpose to come to Anya. Mixed feelings stirred in her heart. In one case, she was happy, knowing that she had someone and Tyra didn't have to watch over her. On the other hand, she was sad for she deeply enjoyed seeing her. Despite the sadness, she thought of the positive, that if she didn't show it meant Anya wasn't sad and thus it made Tyra happy. With that single thought, her heart fell into peace.
The morning rays peeked their way into the room and fell upon Anya. The light illuminated under her eyelids and caused her to stir. Slowly, she rose, taking a moment to blink away the sleep and clear her vision. As she looked around, she noticed Gavin still sleeping in the other bed. A soft smile found her face as she realized that the day before hadn't been a dream. Rising from the bed, she moved to the window and looked out. She was slightly surprised; normally she was up before sunrise, always ready to say her prayers. But such prayers were no longer necessary. Instead, she closed her eyes and said a different prayer, one of thanks for what she had been given. It was short and sweet as she looked out to the blue sky above.
Moving from the window, she grabbed a set of clothes from her case: black pants with an icy blue top, similar to Gavin's eyes. She knew she'd need more clothes soon so she wouldn't have to constantly wash them. But that was not here. Moving to the bath room, clothes and toothbrush in hand, she made her way into the shower. It was quick this morning, hoping to be finished before Gavin awoke. In a few simple minutes the shower was done and she began on her teeth. Only another minute was spent on this before she left the bathroom and set her sleeping gown on the bed. Pulling out a brush, she worked at the few little knots until it smoothed out like brown silk. She debated for a moment how she wished to wear it today before settling on a high ponytail. Finished, she sat on the bed and waited for Gavin to wake.

Gavin stirred a bit before finally waking. He looked over to see Anya awake and ready. Sitting up he looked to her as he reached to the floor for his vest.*
"Good morning. Did you sleep well?"

She watched him with studying eyes as he stirred and woke. Her head tilted and she smiled as he looked to her. She assumed that he held a bit of surprise from her early rising. In truth, had she been up like normal, she might have been quite bored by this point. For that, she was thankful she had woken up as late as she had. Her legs dangled in a slow rhythm, her body beginning to sway in a similar fashion as he sat up. Her smile widened when her asked her about how well she had slept.
"I slept very well!"
Her excitement slowly faded though as her eyes fixed upon him before slowly dropping to the floor. The questions she quickly pondered the night before came to her mind again. She truly wanted to know what lay in wait for her and who all would be involved in her life. As her gaze moved up to meet his eyes again, her's took a serious glow. With a deep breath, she pushed forward, hoping to get the questions out before she lost her nerve.
"May I ask you something? Will I also have a mother? An...and what about where we will live? What is it like?"

*Gavin looked at Anya for a moment before dropping his head.*
"I'm sorry, Anya. It'll just be me. I really wish you could have had a mother as well. There are always things that only a mother can teach you." *He took a deep breath. The next part wasn't sad, at least not to him. He looked to her his eyes appearing indifferent.* "There isn't any one place you'll be. I've only stayed in one place at temples and such for Force users. Otherwise, I travel around a lot in my ship."

Saddened eyes fell to the ground. So there wasn't anyone else, only Gavin. She wasn't complaining, but she had wished for a whole family. But she had him now, and it was better than having none. Though it brought her sadness, the tone that intertwined with his words made her heart go out to him. She may have never had a mother before and may never have one, Gavin's words expressed that he had felt a connection with someone, one who was a wife or at least a lover. She couldn't imagine the pain he was feeling and regret slowly started to form. She didn't know if it was something he was always reminded of, but she had made him remember with something deeper than the mind.
Then the words of where he lived. This gave way to a little bit of curiosity and excitement. If he still planned to live such a way, then she'd get her wish about seeing new places. There was so much out there she wanted to experience and now it seemed there held a chance. She took a deep breath as she stood to her feet, wondering what all the different worlds looked like and the people that inhabited them. Walking over to him, she took his hand with an excited smile.
"I am sorry for asking about a mother. But I hope to see new places with you if you still wish to travel." Lightly she pulled at him, hoping to cheer him up a bit. "Come on! There is a whole city to explore!" She gave a laugh as she tugged playfully on his arm.

A giggle escaped Anya's lips as Gavin pulled himself to his feet. She would have been patient enough to allow him to prepare for the day, but perhaps he didn't involve himself as much with his readiness. As he made his way to the door, she couldn't help but skip along behind him, her happiness putting a little pep in her step. Within moments, they were out of the hotel and into the morning sunlight. She took a deep breath of fresh air as they moved along, taking their time to enjoy the sights and see what the city had to offer.
It wasn't long before they came across a clothing store. Anya leaned up against the window, gazing in at the styles that were presented there. She deeply wanted some more clothes; some part wanting them so she had more to wear more often while the other half of her wanted as any girl did, to look pretty. But she dare not ask Gavin for any. It would be improper of her to ask someone for such things, and in this case expensive things. She had just been adopted; she didn't want him taking her back to the orphanage after one night. So she remained quiet, though her mood didn't falter. She was completely content in exploring for now.
The day dragged on, but her joy remained constant. It was so nice to be able to walk around like this, to be with someone she could call family. The sun was high in the air and things were getting a bit hotter. She twirled around a couple times before noticing a small cafe near by. It wasn't until that moment that she noticed that she was a bit thirsty and a little hungry as well. Though she didn't want to ask, she knew she needed something, a glass of water at the least. Turning to Gavin, she hesitated to look at him for a moment before gazing up at him, a very embarrassed, and almost shamed smile.
"Could we, uh...could we stop for a drink and maybe something to eat?"

*gavin took notice of Anya looking at the clothing store. Once things were figured out with whether or not she wanted t be trained would dictate the clothing she'd most likely gain. Until then, he'd wait. Later in the day when she asked him for a drink and a bite, He smiled a soft smile and ran a hand over her head.*
"Of course, we can stop. "
*Gavin quickly went up to the cafe, ordering two sandwiches and two juices. Once he got the stuff, he returned to Anya.* "Here you go. Don't want to eat too much when it gets really warm out, especially if we keep walking."

She closed her eyes as Gavin rubbed his hand over her head. It was unknown why she enjoyed the action, whether it be the feel of it or perhaps what it meant. All she knew was that she was glad he was open for now on getting little things. From what she could tell in his tone and actions, he deeply enjoyed having someone like a daughter. The implications suggested he had once been a father; this thought lead to a new wave of curiosity, one that was better left unasked for now.
She watched as he made his way to the cafe and made the purchases. It was unknown as to what he would get, but she'd be more than happy with almost anything. Joy surged through her when he returned with a sandwich and juice. She nodded in response to his statement about the heat and eating too much. Following him over to the outdoor seating for the cafe, she happily began eating. The sandwich was delicious, all the right fixings and just the right amount in combination of meat, cheese, and condiments. The juice was equally good, sweet and smooth. Closing her eyes, she began to sway from side to side as she ate, a habit that was becoming obvious in her joyous and peaceful moods.

As they ate, Gavin decided they would take a little trip. Finishing his food, he stood up.* "Let's go for a ride out of the city."
*As they moved along, they found a place to rent speeders. Paying for one, he hoped in with Anya and looked off. After about an hour of riding, they came across a large abandoned building.*

Anya finished her food with a satisfied sigh. It was nice to have the opportunity to try new and great tasting food. She had just finished her drink when Gavin stood to his feet. She figured that they would continue on with their exploration of the city, but found surprise when he mentioned taking a trip out it. At first, confusion over took her. Her eyes gazed upon him, searching for his reasoning. What lay out of the city that would be interesting to see? It then set in that she didn't know what lay out there when she herself had never left. Surprise gave way to excitement as she quickly stood to her feet, following along behind Gavin.
As they made their way to the rental station, it was all she could do to hold in her excitement. There were many types of vehicles to rent, some even purchasable. There were quite a few different styles of speeders and even bikes to choose from: from enclosed speeders, to convertibles, family sized and two-seaters. When Gavin made the purchase and climbed into a particular one she gazed at it for a moment. She had overheard the woman he rented it from call it a TT-6 landspeeder. It certainly looked fast and stylish. Climbing in, she found the seats very comfortable. She quickly buckled herself in as Gavin took of away from the city.
The entirety of the trip was spent looking at the terrain as it passed by. There was less and less as they went along, opening up to a clear view of the planet's natural form. It, in its own way, held a sense of beauty. If anything, it was much more peaceful out here instead of the bustling city. Of course, she figured that it wouldn't be long before she'd end up bored and wish to see the hustle and bustle of the city again.
After the hour spent riding along, she couldn't help but gaze at what lay before them. A large building of sorts, age clearly taking its toll. While the building was mostly intact, there were some holes that had given way as well as cracks forming all along its walls due to lack of maintenance. She wondered what it could have been at one time; it was much too large to be a factory of any sort and its design seemed more geared toward living. Perhaps many people lived here, like a mansion. Knowing she'd never know with her own guesses, she looked to Gavin as they stopped in front of it.
"What is this place?"

"This is the old Kiffu academy. It was started by Falcor Phoenix long ago. This where Tyra came and trained and became part of the revived Guardians, she the first second in command. Come on." *Gavin moved on towards the main entrance. It was open a crack, but now with no power, no longer opened. Lifting his hand, he focused the Force upon it and moved his hand to the side, forcing the door to open. He made his way inside with Anya in tow.
It had been quite some time since he had last been in the academy, but he remembered his directions. Making his way through the darkened halls, the only light coming from the light through the windows. Finally they made it to a room that held statues all around. He walked up to a certain one and waited. It was a statue of Tyra, with a glass case in front of it.*

Anya looked from Gavin to the building. So this was the remains of that once great academy. Many spoke of it, but mostly as a past item, and now she could see why. By the stories, she could only imagine how great it was. Here the Guardians were reformed and here her ancestor trained with Gavin to be the strong warrior and Blade of the Guardian that she had been know as in the history books. Seeing it now, she could only wonder in sadness as to what became of it. If only it was still around, perhaps she would have ended up here. But that was in the past, nothing more now than a memory.
Keeping in step with Gavin, she followed him up to the door. It didn't open, a simple explanation of no power. At first, she believed they were only going to admire it from the outside until Gavin lifted his hand and the door slid open. Left wide eyed, she tried to understand and process what just happened. Was this the power of the Force? Was it just displayed before her in its fullness or was this barely a thought passing in the wind? She had no time to ask when she realized he was walking inside. Shaking her head, she hurried to catch up with him.
With only the faint sunlight shining through dust covered windows, they made their way along. She didn't know a thing about what lay inside, but the way Gavin walked, without hesitation, without the slightest look of confusion showed that he knew exactly where he was going. Deciding to trust his sense of direction, she began to look at the walls. She could almost imagine students running around, hurrying along to get to class in time. She was then left with thoughts of what they taught here. What kind of people did the academy raise its students to be? Considering Tyra and the rest of the Guardians, she could only assume with strong certainty that it was something good.
After making their way down a few halls and climbing over small piles of debris, they made it to the room of statues. As she looked around, she couldn't help but feel like the room was something ancient, though she knew it to be the same age as the rest of the academy. Still, the stones and statues gave it an old beauty, something that only few could truly appreciate. Until now, she didn't realize that she happened to be one of them. Moving up to where Gavin stood, she looked at the statue. It held so many of the features of Tyra, almost down to perfect detail. She must have truly been important to the people in the academy to gain a statue like that. In the glass case, which had been broken by tiny bits of debris, sat two silver and black cylinders, which were uneven due to indentions and such.
But what truly caught her eye was what lay below them. A golden bangle, bearing the same design that Tyra had on her cheeks as clan tattoos, only pointing to the center towards a large emerald gem. There were four on each side, getting small as the band width shrunk near the bottom side. Within each design rested clear gems, diamonds she figured. In between each design, rested two gems near the outer borders of the bracelet in red, purple, and blue. It was extremely beautiful and she couldn't help herself as she reached in and grabbed it. Taking it in her hands, she smiled. It was light in her hands and somehow still held its shine. Also, it wasn't cold, but held a faint warmth as if it had been worn recently. But as she gazed upon it, everything around her seemed to change.
^No longer was she in the room with Gavin, but another room, one much cleaner and seemingly still active. As she looked around the room, she guessed it to be a bedroom, mostly due to the bed. She then heard voices as a door slid open and two people walked through. The first was a man, hair black and shaggy, though less than Gavin's bearing a blue clan marking down the right side of his face. He also wore a brown duster. He was smiling, but said nothing. She could hear the voice of the other, the girl. The clothes, the look, everything was as Gavin had shown her in the holodisk. No doubt, it was Tyra, only she didn't bear the clan marking now. However, she didn't speak, merely watched.
She saw Tyra open a package on the bed, revealing the bangle. For now, there were no gems within it making it clear they were added at a later time. She heard Tyra say it was beautiful and spoke the man's name: Balian. So this was the Balian Phoenix that Tyra married, the man who was also her ancestor. She could now say that she knew what they looked like, though she didn't understand what was happening. Still, she listened on as Balian began to explain it to Tyra. He spoke of it as a Sith amulet, something that allowed the user to focus on the Dark-side and harness the Force better. But he had removed the gems, preparing them for Shadow crystals, allowing Tyra the same effect without the taint of the darkness in the previous crystals. She spoke again, happy for her birthday present. He in return spoke her age, as she just became a legal adult on Kiffu: seventeen. So that was when she was seventeen.
What she also noticed was the feeling that she herself was feeling. She imagined that the two of them were happy, but she felt happiness too. Sure, such a sight would make most happy, the feeling was much deeper, as if she herself was Tyra. She couldn't explain anything and closed her eyes, trying to bring herself back to Gavin and the room they were truly in.^
Anya gasped for air as she saw the statues around her again. She looked down at the bangle, then up to Gavin, confusion plastered all over her face. She had no clue as to what happened which only scared her. "What just happened? I picked this up and suddenly, I saw Tyra and Balian in a bedroom. She had just received this." She motioned to the band, though it was clear of what she spoke. "I only picked it up; I did not mean to do anything wrong. I did not break it, did I?" She looked at it again and saw the large central green gem had cracks over its surface, suggesting in the pattern, it had, in deed, been broken, causing her to worry more.

*To Gavin, Anya seemed to daze off as she slipped into the memory. He stared at her in amazement as she explained the vision she had. He had not known the specifics of when she received it, but knew when she did. For her to see such a thing by holding something of Tyra's meant only one thing.*
"I do believe you have an affinity for Psychometry. It is a Force ability that allows one to read the thoughts of inanimate objects, such as that bangle you have there. You can see memories and feel the feelings of those that held it. Every one in one-hundred Kiffar have this ability naturally and it appears you are one of them. Even I cannot use it. That is quite a gift."
*He smiled as he took the bangle and held it, looking over the broken gems.* "It's a Sith amulet. The original gems had been removed by Balian for new gems just for Tyra. And you didn't break it. In that last battle when she died, the crystals were damaged." *He smiled as he gave it back to her.* "I'd be carefully holding things that were really close to someone. It makes the memories stronger, hence why you were able to see what you did with no training at all. Luckily it was that memory. It can be a very risky ability if you're not trained well. You see and feel as if you were apart of them. So you can imagine what would happen with alot of anger and such."

Psychometry; such a word for an ability. Just the name seemed to hold a sense of power in skill. Already she possessed a great power, even if she couldn't control it freely. It excited her nonetheless. It was a power that few Kiffar were known to have naturally, and here she was, showing it now. She was unsure of how to feel. Proud? Scared? Perhaps it was both. Gavin had just said it was dangerous and that she was lucky she received the memory she did. The feeling of the happiness Tyra felt that day had surged through her as if she had been given the gift herself. It filled her with never ending joy. She could only imagine what would happen if she felt anger or fear.
As Gavin handed her the bracelet, she looked over it. Relief settled in as he suppressed her worry. She thought he would have truly been mad had she damaged it. But to be damaged in battle, it must have seen quite a beating. Turning it over in her hands, she wondered what other memories it held. From the age of seventeen until the day she died, Tyra had carried this, meditated on it, and became part of it. There was no telling what she could learn about Tyra from this technique and her possessions.
Looking up to her statue, she, for the first time, began to truly wonder what kind of person Tyra was. Stories were always that, and mostly exaggerated. What she wouldn't give to know her better, to see what really made her the woman she was. Could Gavin's training show her that or was it less about the training and more about the experiences she gained through life as a Guardian. So many questions, now all upon one topic: Tyra Syen and the life she lived. Shifting her gaze from the statue's face, she focused upon the armor it held. It was different from the armor the Guardians wore now. Traditionally, the armor had always been black, and it was that way now, but Tyra's was sapphire in color. Overall, the suit wasn't a complete covering, made up of only the chest piece, the vambraces, and greaves. It, too, must have held much memory of Tyra.
"Is this her armor?" She didn't bother to wait for a response, reaching out to touch it. Once again, everything around here shifted until a new scene appeared before her eyes.
^She looked out along the open plain, the sun hanging high in the sky. All around her she saw others armored in the same blue armor that Tyra wore. The feelings stirred: anticipation, fear, anger; all of these things filled her in a way she didn't know possible. They stood there, ready and in the distance, an army of silver was making their approach. From the looks of them, they seemed to be droids, yet their movements, while not human, or anything organic, didn't resemble a droids. But they were machines, clear enough to the point. One stood in front of them all and spoke out to the Guardians desiring Gavin Phoenix to be returned to them or they would destroy the city. But none backed down, Tyra standing at the front. None accepted the terms and a battle began.
The feelings began to heighten as the battle raged on. Anger was the center of it all, but pain and fear still held their sway. She watched as the Guardians gave it all they had, but were slowly being pressed back. It wasn't long before they had been grouped together of those who remained. Suddenly, flashes of red fell from the sky and then all was covered in dust. Uncertainty began to feel Anya, unsure of what just happened. As the dust cleared, one man stood there now that hadn't before. It was Gavin, standing there as he was now. His hand raised, a shimmering effect faded from around the Guardians, a barrier that disappeared. Once again, the Guardians stood strong, unwilling to back down. The fight ensued once again. Just when things were beginning to look up, she felt it happen. She watched as Tyra was ran through with a machine's blade. In that moment, Anya felt all her anger and fear surge, along with it was pain. Suddenly, everything went black as she felt the life fade from her.^
She stumbled back from the armor, her hands moving to her head. So much rage and fear, it was unbearable. She cried out in pain as she felt the blade pierce her heart, though just through memory. She gasped heavily for breath as if it didn't come, a hand moving and gripping her chest. Her eyes changed, the negative emotions flowing through her like fire, consuming her. It felt as if she were about to burst as she fell back and everything went black once again.

"Yes, it wa.." *Gavin didn't get to finish as she touched it and became dazed yet again. In that moment, he felt her emotions surge. Unlike the bangle, most of the memories the armor held were of battle. Anger, fear, and pain were always presented in those times. Now he was worried for her safety, both physical and mental. As she stepped away, grasping her head and chest, he was quick to move, catching her as she fell back. From what he could see, she had passed out from the emotional build up. Wrapping her in his arms, he could feel the darkness festering and growing strong quickly. Closing his eyes, he began to hum a tune that he played on the flute. As he did this, he let the Force flow from him, letting waves of peace settle over her, hoping to push out the darkness before it could take root. All he could do now was hope.*

The world was black and empty where she lay. No matter where she looked or how hard she tried to focus, nothing could pierce the darkness. Though there seemed to be nothing around her, inside she could feel the emotions rushing through her like an unbound river. It was so powerful, controlling it seemed impossible. This must be what it felt like to be lost to the darkness. To think that this could have been her back at the orphanage if it wasn't for Tyra and Ansha. But she was here now because her curiosity got the better of her, and though she was warned about her power and its dangers, she didn't think twice about touching the armor and hoping to get swept away again in memories. It was so foolish of her. What memories would armor have aside from battle? And now she lay here, lost in the black all before her new life could truly begin.
As she closed her eyes, ready to surrender to the void, she heard a soft, gentle tune. It was soothing and carried with it peace. Opening her eyes again, she saw a light above her. It was extremely small at first, but slowly grew bigger and bigger. Before she understood what was happening, the emotions began to wash away and she was now filled with peace and warmth. She smiled as she instead surrendered to the light. The next thing she saw was Gavin holding her, humming a tune. It was his voice she heard; it was also from him that emanated the warmth and peace. She offered to him a sad and shamed smile.
"I am sorry."
Sitting up, she looked to the armor again. The thoughts of that last battle Tyra partook in ran through her mind. She remembered her feelings, the overwhelming strength and numbers of her enemies bearing down on her, but never once did she falter. She was always at the front, ready to lead her comrades into battle, bestowing courage and morale unto them. There may have been a whole lifetime between the memories she saw, but she knew enough now. It was both her training and experiences that made her who she was. She felt such anger and fear in that battle, even the pain was trying to tear her down, but amongst those dark feelings, there was a light at the center. It was determination, the desire to never give up or give in, the will to protect those that she held dear. She wanted to be like Tyra. And now, she knew what choice she needed to make.
"Father, you remember you said you wanted to help me? To train me, just as you did Tyra before? I want you to train me like that. I want to be like her, to be strong and unbending, ready to stand up for what I believe and for those who matter to me." Unable to hold herself up, she fell back into his arms and looked at him with hopeful eyes. She prayed the offer still stood and that he wasn't upset with her on what she had just done.

*Gavin let out a sigh of relief when Anya woke up. The darkness had receded for now, but he knew though it wasn't her own experience, the stir of emotions left its mark of darkness on her. He would be sure to teach her the best he could to control and understand it. He gave a soft smile when she apologized.*
"It's ok. I can't blame you for the curiosity of your abilities. Just try to remember what you felt just now as a reminder of what can happen. I won't always be there to help you, and not every time could I."
*He watched as she sat up to look at the armor. He was surprised when she said she wanted to to be trained by Tyra. What did she see in the memory? Which was it?* "If that's really what you want. But I'll tell you now, its not an easy road. The training she went through can put your life at risk if something goes astray."

She looked at him for a moment with uncertain eyes. The training would be so dangerous that it could put her life at risk? Was she truly ready for that? She couldn't handle the wave of emotions that just fell over her and now she was thinking of committing to this. Her eyes fell to the ground as she was about ready to retract her statement. Perhaps it wasn't what she really wanted to do.
She then turned her gaze to the statue again. Slowly, her eyes, which had stayed red from the overbearing feelings, once again turned green. Uncertainty faded away, strength and confidence taking its place. Tyra had faced these things and rose above them, shaping her into the woman many knew. No doubt even she felt uncertainty in her training, a willingness to falter and give up. But instead she pushed through and came out on top. And Anya was her descendant. She wanted and would stand and bear the same things, let her experiences shape her into someone of great understanding and power, someone who receives the respect of others through action.
Standing to her feet, she looked down to Gavin, her eyes shining a new light. "I saw her last moments. That battle on the plains against the machines. They wanted you and threatened to destroy the city and more if the Guardians did not hand you over. But Tyra stood there at the front, unwilling to bend to their demands. The others stood by her with respect and courage. No matter how bad things got that day, she held strong, ready to die to protect you and the city. Through the anger, the fear, and even the pain her determination and commitment shown through like a piercing light. I want to be like that, see the things she saw, face the hardships she faced. When it is all said and done, I can stand beside her as my own person, ready to stand and fight for what I believe in." She looked away from him for a moment, as a thought passed through her mind. "I know you adopted me, but I would like to take her name as my own as well as her clan markings. Please?"

*Gavin knelt before her and smiled, taking her hand.* "I would be proud for you to take her name and to bear her markings and I know she would be too." *He placed the amulet in her hand, then placed her other hand over it.* "This now belongs to you. In time, you can choose a new crystal to replace this one and truly make it your own."
*Standing to his feet, he took a breath.* "As for the training, you don't have to worry just yet. First, I'll have to train you as many younglings are to feel the Force and to learn how to fight. Also, different from hers, I'll let you know exactly what each part of the training entails as well as working you up to the extreme instead of just throwing you right in like I did with Tyra. Your training, in the end, will have a much stronger foundation." *He gave her a smile before looking around the room once again, his eyes catching one particular statue. Walking over to it, he let out a sigh as he saw his own, a large sword held, if not leaned on, in front of it.*
