Resistance A/SF-03 B-wing starfighter.
Ship Class: Heavy Starfighter.
Ship Role: Superiority Bomber.
Length: 19.87 m.
Agility (A): 4
Defensive (D): 4
Offensive (O): 4
Speed (S): 3
Special Gear: 0
Description:
The second development from the Resistance's engineers: a new series of B-wing starfighters. Essential for the new starfighter's development were refugees from the watery planet of Dac, some of which used to work for its orbital shipyards, and a defector from Imperial Space, a weapon developer from Sienar Fleet Systems. Protypes found salvaged from Galactic Alliance's database by senator Voon Ostrenis-Massa provided a template to work with to improve the already powerful design perfected by Quarri in times of the Rebellion.
As done, previously, with the Y-wing, the classic B-wing was taken a step further and improved. The hull was designed to be smooth and sleek, instead of the more angular and kit-bashed nature of the previous models. The exhaust ports were completely redone -now, they were more efficient to dissipate the greater heat surplus- and the fuselage provided better armor, all around, to the starfighter, with an all-enveloping reinforced hull. The weapon array was completely changed. The twin cannons at the front of the cockpit were removed: now, at the rear of the said estructure there is a rotating turret with four Gyrhil-75 auto-blasters, providing all covering-fire from behind, elimintating any possible blind spots. On the wings, besides the Armek SW-11a ion cannons there were two additional Gyrhil S-10 laser cannons, allowing the wings to deliver blaster fire as effectively as the lower cannon array. Below the cockpit, they included one additional secondary proton torpedo launcher, making it two, one of each side of the blade-like structure. At the tip of the starfighter they, also, increased the firepower, with two primary torpedo launchers -instead of one-, and added a newly-minted powerful heavy laser cannon, while leaving the old model's ion cannon at the same configuration than before.
Thus, the newly developed fighter counted with the following armament: four auto-blasters, two laser cannons, one heavy laser cannon, three ion cannons and four proton torpedo launchers. The drawback came at the lost of some speed, compensated by the stronger hull and the efficient all-covering supressing fire from the four-barrelled turret at the cockpit's rear. The sleeker design allowed the starfighter to preserve its incredible agility and maneurverability. It was also quite expensive to fabricate -even more than the already costly models-, which prevented it to be manufactured massively.
