The Academy of Carida was a private, and later state-supported, comprehensive military institution. It formed a triumvirate of elite military institutions along with the academies of Anaxes and Corulag. The institution was known by a variety of names such as Caridan Military Academy, Carida Academy, and Academy at Carida. It was located on the Spinara Plateau. It was considered a fairly prestigious Imperial military academy, and the planet's high gravity was used to train tougher, more resilient stormtroopers. Under the First Order, this history continued with the main stormtrooper training facility. The school was driven to produce the best troopers possible, encouraging a stronger and smarter soldier. Advances in weapons were studied here to improve the effectiveness of the First Order Military Machine Centered at Spinara Plateau and surrounded by dagger-like mountains, the Academy was composed of several impressive buildings that acted as living and dining space, training areas, as well as administrative and Caridan government offices. At the center of the campus was a large citadel with architecture designed to echo the ancient buildings of Coruscant and Raithal, despite its relative youth. Enormous turrets and minarets dotted the upper walls of the citadel; the southernmost turret housed the Academy's private HoloNet transceiver. The First Order Citadel was connected to the Storm Trooper Academy on the Spinara Plateau overlooking the capital city. The Moff wanted to be present and have the Academy leadership know who was truly in charge. The structure was reminiscent of an old traditional Caridan fortress. White stone covered the outside. Inside was everything a planetary leader could want. The Moff insured that it had the best communication array, top of the line data storage, and retrieval systems. The Moff's office was large but simply decorated. It was efficient and that led to its beauty. A black stone desk set underneath the one artistic feature of the room, a large stained glass window with images showing Carida's history, the good and the bad. The other window looked into the Academy next door.

Most leaders hated paper work, even the ones the required a lot of it from their subordinates. Standash was no different, but she forced herself to get through it. This was all very important information and it gave her an edge. She had developed a relationship with the troopers training at the academy as someone that cared for them. The aid fleet was doing well, assisting various worlds with small crisis learning from each situation. The commanders had grown a lot in a short time. She began to sift through new information she had asked for. She was reading up on the public information available on KDY, She wanted to be ready to aid if needed, but didn't want to be seen as spying. The Marshal had been a good superior, but digging too deep could break that trust easily.

Cadet Modet Alshawn, arrived from Coruscant. The 17 year old had grown up in the lower levels of the city planet. His mother raised him best she could. They were poor, like everyone in the lower levels, he often was still hungry but wasn't malnourished. He had trained himself to fight bullies and other undesirables he grew up around. He was smart and resourceful. Once the First Order took over Coruscant, the young man saw an opportunity for something more. He enlisted and tested well enough to make it too the Academy. He had just arrived and was still getting his barrings

Training had been going well all around. The combination of class room, simulators, and live training was producing better young troopers and officers than ever. Every squad had to pass one final practical test before graduation. The testing area was designed to test everything. Adaptability, accuracy, strength, tactics, even a little luck, all were needed to pass and show that you were ready to move on. Testing took place as a class, failing meant you repeated the year. The rules this year were simple, all 8 men in the squad had to arrive on the frozen peak. The mountain was natural and steep. If that wasn't enough, auto turrets were dotted across the face and 100 battle droids covered the few passable parts of the mountain. Squad after squad attempted the course. Some passed, others failed. The last squad was all that was left. They were preparing looking at some of the climbing parts. While doing this a freak accident happened, one had his foot caught in a crack and they twisted. His leg snapped. This created a problem with the rules of the test. Eight cadets needed to cross the line, the squad was now down to 7.

The Emperor's visit to New Carida was not entirely unexpected. A missive had been sent, indicating the arrival of the Imperial leader, but no date was specified. Nicademus decided on this in order to avoid media coverage of his visit. He never liked the presses and their desire to plaster his face everywhere. He left that sort of thing to his propaganda machines within the Comissariat, the Civil Services, and the Imperial Intelligence. The organs of the Empire that he controlled.
Still, his Upsilon-class Command Shuttle was definitely an indicator. Only the high-ranking officials of the Empire were afforded these shuttles. Others still used the outdated, but traditional, Lambda and Nune classes of older nations. The TIE Xs veered off as the shuttle made its final approach to a hangar bay within the Citadel, an immense structure that was the core of the Imperial Academy on this planet. After the shuttle landed, six Stormtroopers, bearing the black armor, and red markings, of the Imperial Guard disembarked, followed by a pair of Imperial Knights, who flanked the Emperor. His brother, Brock Ferrum, was the third knight and confidant present.
Nicademus raised his hand as hangar crews saluted and Stormtroopers, on duty, greeted their leader. He merely strolled through the hangar bay and set off to find Moff Thul. There was a reason for his visit and he would not delay on its purpose.

The aide rushed to the hanger. They didn't know that the Emporer was coming today. The Moff was in the middle of an exercise session with some of the cadets. It kept her in shape and improved morale in the Academy. Annelise could see the benefits, but she still didn't like it. Things like this were exactly the reason why. She moved that thought aside as walked quickly to the hanger. She was in a Caridan civilian business dress as she had no official rank in the imperial chain of command. Those that did on Carida respected her greatly, so as she moved, an escort automatically fell in behind her without question. They were the most shocked when the hanger doors opened to the sight of the Emporer. Annelise bowed instantly and the startled troopers a moment after. Your Majesty. She wanted to say more but that was just her mind panicking. She was experienced enough to catch that and shut up. The Emporer had the right to speak, and she could get the opportunity to answer.

Eight cadets needed to cross the line, the squad was now down to 7. Cadet Channa Traln, a female Zabrak recruit who recently applied for the First Order, watched in shock as their team mate suddenly had a major problem. Unsure what else to do in such a situation, she immidiately hurried over to at least prevent the other aspiring trooper from falling to their doom. Channa reached out for the fellow person, grabbing them and trying her best to get them onto a safer location, searching for the next plateau. What seemed at first like an impossible task and might probably cost both their lives, eventually turned out to be managable with the fellow trooper's help. Nontheless Channa was worried, as they reached a safer location within the mountainous area whether they could still pass the upcoming test. While her mind was troubled when it came to these very questions of how to progress now, she took off her helmet in order to get some fresh air, looking towards the fellow cadet with a worried expression. Her skin looked like bronze, the horns on her bald head looking quite small, making the humanoid nearly look human."You're alright, man?"

Standash had been taking a walking tour around the grounds as she tried to do weekly. She engaged with a few cadets and trainers. She watched some teams work on their final test. She was pleased with some, saddened by others. Some that failed she was rather excited by actually. They showed great promise, just the day wasn't theirs. That was one of the hardest lessons to learn. It was possible to do everything right and still fail. She marked them for more advanced training during their next year. She moved on to some other areas and came across a squad practicing for their upcoming test. She watched as they scaled the rock face. Then something happened. The rock under a cadet's foot gave way and her fell, he other foot locked into a crack refused to move. The fall and twist resulted in a sickening pop of ligaments and snap of bone. A teammates swung over and helped the cadet down. A young Zabrak cadet seemed to take charge. The Moff and her personal guard ran to the scene, the guard radioing for a medic. Tell me how I can help cadet?

The Emperor was making a stride through the hangar bay when the doors slid open and revealed Annelise Sitar, a woman who he was vaguely familiar with based off reading the staff of the academy here. It was said that she was the right-hand aide of Standush Thul and a capable Imperial. Immediately, Nicademus came to a halt when she spoke and bowed to him. A gesture by his gloved hand had her rise from her bowed posture.Aide Sitar, a pleasure to put a name and a face together. He replies politely before glancing around.Where is Moff Thul? I wish to speak with her immediately. If she is in session, take me to it, but do not alert her. I desire to see how she handles the cadets and their training.Nicademus was wondering just how effective Thul was handling her job here.

She arose from her kneel and gave a forced smile. She was angry that the smile wasn't more convincing. She wasn't intimidated by many people. In serving Standash, she had stared down powerful senators, criminal heads, heads of state, and grand admirals. All of them she stood up to, the Emperor was something different. Some of it had to do with Standash's relative power, those times she was a high ranking senator herself, Supreme Chancellor (for a moment), Head of Coruscant, President of the Alliance Sentant, then Acting Head of state for the Alliance, she had no superior. If the aide was honest, the younger woman eased the differences better than she did. That was the other side of the coin. She trusted that those other things were good, this time? This time was different. There was so much in the First Order that the aide didn't fully trust and was afraid of. That meant she didn't fully trust and was afraid of the man standing in front of her now. The smile was nerves... mostly though. She began to lead the Emporer and his entourage to the training field the Moff was working on. The woman did her best to keep a stutter out of her voice, mostly by speaking faster than normal; as she thought of the best response to the question. Your Highness, the Moff was nnn not aware of your arrival today. We did of course receive the notice you would arrive some time this cycle. Moff Thul made the choice to go about her duties while waiting for you.She blinked a couple of times, hoping that statement wouldn't lead the Emperor to think that Standish was being disrespectful, she wished she hadn't added that last part, but realized she had to continue none the less. She often participates in drills with Cadets. She wants them to see leadership as more than well-fed bureaucrats, her words in response to a session when she first arrived. It also keeps her in top physical condition. Right now she is participating in an exercise. She has said that morale has improved across the boards since she began. Underperforming units have had notable rises in scores when she is around or joins them. The aide did not add that Standish and she joked around occasionally if it was her leadership and reputation, or the sight of her in a form-fitting combat bodysuit that caused the increase in performance.
Outside, the weather was a contrast. The Sun was bright directly overhead, its rays making a person sweat very fast, but the temperature was relatively low, causing a person to be uncomfortably cold and hot at the same time. The altitude caused most of this. On a rocky training field covered with mud from the melting snow and ice, A couple of cadet squadrons were participating in a combat game. The objective was to reach the opposing team's base, collect their squadron insignia, and return it to your own. Encountering the other team resulted in a live sparing session will all in the area. At times this resulted in one on one fights, other times three on one, or multi-person melees. You survived by pinning your opponent to the ground for 3 seconds or making your opponent submit. Once eliminated a person would go to a brig until released by a teammate. The game, while childish, helped build up tactics and combat skills. The game was in mid-match when Annelise and the Emporer arrived in the mirrored viewing tower. The aide motioned for the instructors to continue working and not stop for his Majesty. Annelies was mortified when she saw Standish. She was covered in mud and rocks, several small cuts on her face and body. There massive rips in the bodysuit, mostly it now consisted of a top with most of one arm and 1/3 of the other sleeve and no stomach, the bottom portation was mostly intact save for a few rips. Any exposed skin was red from a combination of the sun and snow. It didn't make her feel better that both teams of cadets were in similar states of disrepair. It was at that moment the Moff and another cadet seemed to be stalking a much larger cadet on the other team.

For now, the Emperor remained silent and followed the aide to wherever the Moff Thul was. He eventually came to a place that overlooked the training area. Nicademus walked up to the viewport, watching what was proceeding below. Seemed to be a combat game between two units of the academy. The instructors present did take the time to salute their leader who quietly raised a hand, indicating that they need not mind him and to be at ease. For now, the Imperial just watched the combat game that transpired below the viewing tower.
Moff Thul is right to show that leadership is more than connections. Leadership is bred through experience, by discipline, and by utilizing ones mind. I have seen other instructors do the same by trying to show by example rather than explaining. It instills the young cadets to try and prove themselves.
The Emperor remarks before watching some more. He clearly did not seem to mind the state of Standash. It came with her participation that she would be roughed up. Otherwise, the students wouldn't respect her if they were the only ones with bruises and bumps. He gestures to the combat game below.
Aide Sitar, who are the two squadrons below? I would like to know the details behind both teams present.

The Aide pulled up her datapad, and looked over the teams The Beskar Hawks, one of the best performing units. Their scores are always at the top. Cadet Captain Ainsly is leading them, the taller human there. The other, the one the Moff is with...She reads and frowns.Chromium Nexu... They are... um, less impressive in most of their endeavors. Normally under the command of Cadet Major Langer, the one behind the Gand Moff. Before this unit, he has been a top-performing cadet, with great marks in all of his classes. It would seem... oh, the Nexu seem to be winning. They have 3 remaining team members out of the brig. Hawks are down to just Ainsly. It would seem the Moff is pursuing a total conquest strategy, they are stocking Ainsly.
Below then the scene began to unfold. The large cadet was nervously looking around. He had been the one to hold the defensive position, as normal. He respected the Moff, to the point where he would discipline anyone to disrespect her, but he couldn't understand how she had made this large of an impact. He had been on teams with Langer and thought he was a good cadet, he had always been more than capable. He had assumed it was the squad that was holding him back. He could feel eyes on him and turns... Langer was very happy his squad was performing well. The Moff would see that he was good at training those under his command and they had just been unlucky up to this point. They were stalking Ainsly, and they were ready to surprise him as to the plan. At the last second, the large man turns to face them, caught off guard Langer freezes. Standash continues and takes a hard punch square to the cheek. and falls to the ground. Langer recovers his composure and squares off. He uses his speed and tactics to outflank and tier out the bigger Cadet. After a couple of minutes, Langer locks on a sleeper hold and Ainsly slowly fades away. The klaxon rings signaling the end of the match. The cadet Major beams with pride, and walks over to the Moff, reaching out a hand as the rest of the squads gather.
Standash, looks up and shakes the cobwebs from her head, and smiles at Langer. With everyone gathered, and without warning, she sweeps his leg knocking him to the ground still holding his hand. She pulls him up, and hip tosses him face-first into the mud, rocks and ice cutting, still holding his arm now behind him. She applies pressure, as he yelps in pain. Her own eye blackening as she heldYou are relieved of command Cadet Langer. You had one last chance to prove that you could handle leadership. You have the skills to be good, but you rely on them too much. You hesitate and leave others to face the consequences. The plan was to attack, that had been our strategy, the one you came up with, sneak, and strike. But you still hesitated, that is why you fail...Learn from it, and maybe there will be hope for you yet. Dismissed all of you. The group disbands some looking at her intently, others avoiding eye contact. She makes her way to the turbo lift to the observation tower, on the way she grabs a piece of ice off the ground, wraps it in tattered cloth from her calf, and presses it on her eye. She takes the lift up to the platform, where Annelise and the emperor were. The doors open.

Nicademus observed diligently. Listening and watching to what unfolded reminded the Imperial of his days as a youth, when he trained in the Planetary Security Academy on Eriadu and, eventually, a military education that allowed the male to enter the navy for a couple short-lived nations. The routine drills, the constant competitive nature of the education, the thrill of command and leading one's unit to victory. It wasn't a perfect time, but they were fond, and formative, memories. Witnessing the cadets out there reminded the Emperor of his humble origins. True, he was born into a wealthy family, but he had still risen from nothing when Nicademus took his place as Supreme Commander of the Deep Core Remnant up to his current status. As he was motivated, as long as these cadets were too, there would be nothing to worry about.
The Emperor turns and walks over to a console, having seen the cadets walk out. Nicademus keys the available console and begins reviewing the current records for both the Beskar Hawks and the Chromium Nexu. It was something to pass the time while Moff Thul likely got herself readied for whatever came next. The Imperial takes notes of names and family backgrounds as he reviewed the records. Those born into wealth rarely felt obligated to be motivated, yet the humble and lowborn were far more motivated typically. It wasn't a matter of stereotyping, but more of a fact. After a small review, he turns to Thul's aide.
Who do you think will likely come out as the top of their class, Sitar?

My lord, that is not my area of expertise, however Ainsly has consistently showed promise, his individual scores are always good. The biggest thing with him is how well he works with others. There has been a bit of transitions under the Moff that some have had to get used too. There is now a focus on being a stronger group, more than just the strongest individual. She pauses for a moment wondering if she should quote the Moff, she decides to go for it. The statement was public.Moff Standash said early on. "The Imperial Knights and the Ren can handle the individuals, we are building an army. The army will never get the accolades of the others, but it is what holds the First Order together." She says something like that to every... She was going to finish with the word "orientation" when the turbolift opened to her horror.
Standash had not stopped in the locker room to change, she would do that in her quarters, she also skipped the medical droid, black eyes heel on their own. Still holding the ice on her face the door opens to the observation platform. She steps out, her hand with the ice blocks the Emperor so she misses him. She starts issuing orders and requests to the stunned staff.Get me the video of every hand to hand engagement from this round. I think we may need to expand some of the styles we are teaching here, maybe a greater Echani influence. Prepare the paper work for Cadet Langer's demotion and transfer to a different unit. Get me and updated list of units he could serve as a second in.She turns to see Annelise, still not noticing the Emperor. She looks confused. The aid was scheduled to be taking care of things in the central command building, and shouldn't be in the academy, much less a training ground. She wasn't angry, she new if her Aide was here there would be reason. Annelise was very capable, it was very rare that she needed the Moff's attention, unless something needed signing.Miss Sitar? Is there something that requires my attention immediately? Or do I have time to change? The aide is unable to hide the embracement from her face, all she can do is silently point to the standing Emperor. Confused, Standash turns her good eye and finally sees the Nicademus. It was only years of training that let her react quickly. She immediately bowed and knelt, pain shooting up from her cut and scrapped knees. She knew she had nothing to be ashamed of, well other than the black eye now visible entirely from her knelt position.Your Excellency.

After all, one day, they may be a part of her own forces if they were assigned by Imperial High Command. The Emperor raises his hand, indicating for Standash to rise. He looks over her person for a moment, before turning to her aide.Have a medic come and look on the Moff after she has changed and washed. The Imperial remarks before turning to Thul.Moff Thul, I would recommend a bath and an examination before we speak. I believe you will want to be refreshed for what has to be said.

She stands and nodsOf course your highness. She turns to Annelise.Miss Sitar, please take the Emperor to my office, I will be there shortly. With that she takes her leave and finds a medical droid. After some treatment, the swelling has stopped and the eye is only slightly greenish brown, no longer black, blue, and purple. She takes a quick shower, putting her hair up in a bun and putting on her uniform. The fabric causes discomfort on the small wounds, and her head was still pounding. She had accepted the bacta and the injections for her eye but refused pain killers. When meeting with the Emperor, it was not wise to have something that could alter your mindset. The Aide nods to the Moff.Right this way your Highness. She leads the way, nervous and the questions the Emperor could ask her.

The Emperor departs with Thul's aide to the office within the academy. He passed by a number of cadets and instructors, all of whom saluted their respected leader and Nicademus, in return, acknowledged their gestures. He entered the office not long after, with two of his Stormtroopers entering with him. He thanked Sitar and proceeded to wait for Moff Thul quietly. As the time went on, the Imperial wandered about the office, inspecting the view and taking a look at what was within this room. It was good enough quarters, for a Moff, but would require an expansion whenever Thul learned of her promotion.
The door hissed causing the Emperor to turn and see that the Alderaanian had taken his advice to be more presentable. Nicademus moves towards the entrance of her office.
I watch your exercise earlier. You are good with the cadets and hard on those who need improvement.
The Imperial says.
Try to watch yourself with the injuries though.
The Emperor chuckles as he motions to a Stormtrooper. The trooper procures a datapad and hands it to him.
I suspect you have heard of Thomas Zahn's retirement? Your superior seems to want to return to the fold of the Army and just leave his Grand Moff title behind.

She gingerly walks into her office. She had nothing to hide, but there was still light panic when a superior is wandering around your area. Her mind raced through everything she had even though she knew everything was fine. She bowed her head slightly as she come inside. To be honest with you, your highness, I feel it is something I have to do. Have have never served in any military. Alderaan does have a decent intelligence service, that is where Annelise comes from, but that wasn't a place for a princess. I learned defense and such. I feel I have to show the troops I can understand them, that I can be one of them. I will never be the best at military strategy, but I can understand the troops and crews. The sun reflects off her beskar tomahawk behind her desk, shining in the injured eye a bit. She steps around blinking the spots away.Demanded respect is hard to keep, earned respect lasts forever. I will try to duck faster in the future your highness. She had heard of the retirement. The Grand Moff had sent a form message to the sector Moff's. She wasn't surprised. Politics wasn't for everyone, just like tactics weren't for everyone. She could tell Zahn was always going against instinct.I had heard of his plan to retire, nothing about what he planned after. He is a good leader, it is the army's gain to get his full attention. I can only imagine the strain of trying to do both jobs.

His retirement from his Grand Moffship was understanding. He didn't seem to enjoy the life of sitting at a desk and managing the administration of an oversector. His true thrills came from drilling troops, commanding them into battle, and such. Reluctantly, the Emperor accepted his resignation.Zahn was capable, but he is more of a warrior. I do not blame him for desiring to retire from that post. The Emperor states as he reflects for a moment before speaking further. As such, a vacancy has appeared in this Oversector's leadership. And I had come to discuss with you on the candidate I had in mind.Nicademus looks directly at Standash. My choice is you, Moff Thul, as the most capable candidate to take Marshal Zahn's place as Grand Moff.
