I've posted, we can move on now. Unless someone wants to drag it out....

That seems like an idea. If there's one thing this Senate needs, it's more dragging things out!
... yeah, no, moving on is probably good.

It's not like this meeting is being drawn out; it's just taking forever for people to post. is it wrong to see the difference like that? :-P

Will/Cihlbar, last time people just called out in the Rotunda what committees they wanted on. Do you want to do that again? Or do you want to make one post based on what people have said here already?

Are we sorting committees now, or bringing motions and discussion point? I know Darma has a proposal to make, and there's obviously a discussion to be had about the Republic's official stance on the Mandos....
I don't mind which, of course, I just wondered

Those points are exactly why i left it open.
If Darma has a point IC, let him bring it up. As far as I remember, I recall a few people saying which committees they wanted, but I don't recall nearly everyone saying which committee they wanted to be assigned to. Also, I believe we came to a general consensus on the committees (or rather the bickering suddenly stopped on the subject, which I will take as consent).
And Dav, you are the one who explicitly said it was too early to bring in the Republic on this Mando conflict. Only thing for GR to act on is Yavin, and you have actively said Yavin is closed and would be to messy to invite any others into it. I figure, we can appoint a new Military Council, and when the time is right, have them commit resources to the conflict. Call another session and vote on declaring war against the Mandalorian Empire.

Indeed, but realistic response would at least mean some kind of discussion starting, even if the resolution is a 'wait and see', or a decision to approach the Mandos through diplomatic channels.
In fact, that last one sounds exactly like the sort of thing a bloated bureaucracy would do, it would give someone a good RP, would set Ashrah and Corr up for some devious villainy, and would give the journey of the relationship between the Republic and the Mandos some nice development - like Leia and Nil Spaar before the Black Fleet Crisis. There is plenty that could be done, with a little imagination. We were always intending this to be more than just a series of battles, this is a great opportunity to show the other elements to the war.

Whelp, that's an idea. One that was never voiced, but a good idea. Good thing we left the meeting open for discussion. ;-)
Let's see how the rest of this meeting pans out, and who among us brings it up, I where are the other writers who wanted to be in on this? Anyone want to call dibs on a point in this meeting. It is more then open for you to jump in. I am just a figure head that calls on you when you raise your hand. I wont stiff arm you, or block your opinion. I am just here to move things along and represent you with the big boys and against the baddies. A great place for the youngens to get some experience and clout. Let's do some diplommatting!

Just to point out, the response to the Mandos is exactly what the Military Committee is for. It's their job to allocate troops and such and make quick responses when notified. IE, it gives us the IC ability to respond to what we might know OOC. If the Mandos attack say, Mon Cal, any member can post "fleets were sent in defense." Then whoever shows up has IC reason to.
In fact, to make aware, Crom'nen is gone because he left to make secret contact with them on an end around, which failed. But no one knows that except a few people who never showed back up after the reboot.

Fair point. I think it's also fair to point out that, as a body, it is the prerogative of the Senate's to draft resolutions and directives to govern the actions of the few (whether it'd be the Chancellor's office, or committee of a small number of Senators) so as to ensure that the will of the people is being sought after with full weight, legitimacy and understanding.
Either way, as Dav points out, this can lead to some enriching diplomatic RP. Bloated bureaucracy, back alley politicking, possible assassination (character, personal, political or otherwise). Crom'nen is revered for it, after all. ;-)

For both story and consensus, I'm in agreement. I'm just pointing out that bureaucratic RP turns into real life bureaucracy. The two are no where near mutually exclusive. In point of fact, we been forced to play committee and full sessions simultaneously in the past. I think our recent elections show why. What takes five minutes IC takes weeks IRL.
I'm really not as arrogant as my character though, so even though I'm not afraid to make myself heard, I'm willing to defer to the group.

I fully concur with your thoughts and sentiments completely as an author.
Yet, IC, if we skip all the political and bureaucratic belly aching, we negate the purpose of even having a Senate. The only reason I am even here is to help those who wanted a Senate to help drive it forward. So let's make this the best Senate JvS has never seen!

Again, I do not see it as one or the other. Let's do that in the Rotunda, but let the committee do the quick action to not hold up story on other worlds where fleets need to move.

There is a difference between resolutions and action, you know? One begets the other. Resolutions guide action. When a Resolution is passed, it gives a particular action committee direction to move. That's what I mean.

We should debate it a bit (or allude to a debate in our narrative), then pass a resolution authorizing the Military Council to investigate the reported Mandalorian activity, gather intelligence, and summon the Jedi liaison(s) for a briefing on what's going on. That way, the Senate delays taking any action until it receives a report from the Military Council to confirm these "rumors."
