The biting ebb of exhaustion began to gnaw at the Dark Lord- his lungs were tight and his body was heavy, yet the throbbing pain from his burn allowed for adrenaline and the dark side to give him vigor. His breathing was heavy, yet not labored, as he watched the jedi roll away from his strike. The blade crackled as the sand around it was superheated, yet there was a momentary satisfaction as he smelled the odor of burning flesh. His hit had at least grazed him.
Nexus rose from his knee as the jedi came into his crouch- he felt him wrap a protective envelope of the force around him. It was a shield, one that the Dark Lord was determined to batter into oblivion. Turning his body side face so that his left side faced Rutil, he held his saber up, ready to defend against a sudden attack of jedi lightning, though he did not prepare himself for an attack of telekinetic power. At least not an immediate one. The force focused around Nexus as well, creating an invisible aura about him. His mind was hot from battle, though far from clouded. His nostrils flared beneath his mempo as he stepped forward, bringing himself closer to Rutil.
His step was quick and the swipe of his saber was even quicker, as he brought the weapon in a low arcing swing, aiming to hit Rutil's left leg just above the knee cap. There was no more hostile charges- it was time to chip away at the jedi's reserves. He wanted to plant doubt in his heart and despair in his mind, that way he would leech upon the emotions of his opponent. The only way to do that was to slowly tire him out, though he would not let the jedi regain his composure. He pressed the attack- just with less unbridled aggression.

Rutil felt the Force twist and scream as the Dark Lord brought it around himself as a form of protection, much like he himself had done. Nexus had a much different body language coming into his next strike than what he had done before. It was reserved, calmer, and much more conservative than the wild and powerful attacks that he had chosen to open the fight with. The man's movement spoke to a familiarity with Makashi, while the decision to move towards that form of attack meant he was running low on energy. Which was good in and of itself. Unfortunately, Rutil was also tiring, and was at several disadvantages because of it compared to the Sith; he could not contort the Force to stimulate his body in response to pain or anger, his mastery of the Crucitorn technique would only serve to fuel his opponent after the initial shock unless he were willing to risk falling to the darkness himself, and he did not know enough about Jedi healing techniques to provide any sort of meaningful aid even in the best of conditions, let alone in the middle of pitched combat.
Fortunately, the old, broken-horned Jedi Guardian did have some tricks left up his shortened sleeves.
Rather than leap in response to the Sith's targeted strike, Rutil simply hopped upward, tucking his legs under him to let the red blade pass harmlessly underneath. As the blade passed, Rutil's intense focus found its way onto Nexus's pale body. Blood, muscles, and nerves all working together in perfect motion, operating in perfect balance. Rutil had learned long ago how to upset that balance using those very same mechanisms.
While landing poised to intercept another attack on instinct, the Jedi's mind now bombarded Nexus with the power of Malacia, twisting the Dark Lord's bodily mechanisms and turning them all against him by disrupting the natural flow of things. In most cases, it could make a target feel queasy and dizzy. In some cases - most often in the hands of a true master of the power, as Rutil was - a target could be forced to vomit and fall unconscious as their body turned against them. If successful, the Sith would wretch and lose sense of things before falling unconscious.
And when that happened, Rutil would have a decision to make.

Ok, this has been a rather difficult fight to judge. For starters, both of you did extremely well. The posts were clear, concise, and easy to understand. You both wrote your characters well, both of you had good spatial awareness, and both of you did a good job of taking fatigue into account. There was very little to ding either of you on. I really wish this fight had continued; coming up with a winner has been pretty damned difficult.
That being said, I have to go with Nexus.
While Runtil scored the only hit of the fight, doing so cost him his weapon. While recovering it would be simple enough for any Jedi or Sith (except for maybe a Halcyon,) Nexus consistently controlled the pace of the duel. As best as I can extrapolate from what's already written, I'm thinking that it wouldn't have been hard to keep the distance close and prevent Runtil from recovering his weapon. Force prowess can only carry you so far unarmed against a similarly powerful and skilled duelist.
This was an excellent read, and I have only one thing that I wish to scold you both on: why the hell weren't you in the tournament?!? Seriously, this is good shit. I hope to see you both in future GBA matches. Feel free to PM if you have any questions, and thanks for the excellent match.
