Adenn's face took on a troubled look. He had not expected to be so bluntly rebuffed. But perhaps the man was bluffing? Or perhaps he feared that Incom wished only to make a quick profit -- one which Rendili had obviously decided to forgo. Perhaps they would need to try again, with a different senator. But first, he had a few cards left to play.
I see. The administrator paused, and pushed a button on his holocom. Darma's view changed from his face to a three-dimensional map of the Core Worlds, with the Republic worlds highlighted in blue, and Fresia, winking right on the edge of Republic space, mere parsecs from Coruscant, accented in orange. With respect, Senator, allow me to point out that Fresia is entirely surrounded by Republic territory. It is highly unlikely that we would face any grave invasionary danger that would not also threaten the Republic, but at the same time, we are one of the closest unaligned systems to Coruscant. If an enemy wished to strike at the heart of the republic, we would make an excellent staging area. If the Republic will not offer us protection, then I must regret to inform you that we will go elsewhere to meet our needs. And I don't want to do that, Senator. It's not good for the Republic, and it's not good for my people.
He paused, taking a deep breath, as the map view faded once more. As for any sort of trade deal for the Republic military, there must be some benefit to us in exchange. Membership or at least representations before the Senate. Some guarantee of security and protection of our assets and our rights to do business within the Republic. Et cetera. Again he stopped, letting his point (hopefully) sink in, before answering the Rendilian Senator's other question.
You ask if the Mandalorians are occupying Fresia, and that depends on what your definition of an occupation is. The Mandalorians are a culture more than they are a nation. As it currently stands, our security consists of freelancers, who are largely Mandalorians, hired by Incom to defend our assets. The official Mandalorian military has all but departed, and would leave entirely if they felt our assets were safely protected from lawless pirates and thieves by another power, such as the Republic. I could issue the order tomorrow, and their last observers would depart.

Darma listened and noted that he had been to overzealous in his outlining of the defense proposal, still this was but a minor misunderstanding, he hoped. So taking care to hear the administrator's points and noting that the man had clearly thought this through quite well, decided to try and correct the misunderstanding as best he could, with out any further promoting of his own agenda.
I have muddled my words, please forgive me. My only reservation to your joining was the possibility of having to fight off a resident foreign army, which you have allayed completely. The republic is eager to accept willing new worlds into it's fold, I merely wonder if you are capable of defending yourself from an enemy long enough for republic forces to arrive and render their assistance. If you have no defenses of your own, I personally, suggest you rectify that, but it will by no means hinder your acceptance into the grand republic.
Every world admitted into the republic is given representation in the senate, and my own proposal only covers very specific purchases from fleet command, Incom and RSD would still receive many normal transactions from the republic. Believe me I have no wish to bleed either company, or it's supporting populace, dry. For example, if you wished to purchase a republic class star destroyer from RSD, for the primary, or sole, purpose of defending Fresia, you could buy it at half it's normal cost. However, if you wished to purchase the same order for any other reason or a second for the same reason, it would be made at the product's full cost. So you see, I don't wish to deprive either world it's due business, but instead generate general good will towards each, along with some free publicity, for a relatively small price. However, the details have not yet been ironed out yet, and you are in no way required to participate. Feel welcome to bring this subject up again for further discussion at your leisure; but for now, back to bringing Fresia into the Republic.
I consider the matter hand taking a few breaths to consolidate my thoughts, and lay them out clearly. I hoped to avoid any further confusion. Thinking about available resources I consider what is available to offer for the planet's short term security, until it could be gather a proper defense force of it's own.
I will gladly bring you desire to join the republic before the senate at the first opportunity I get, and I'm sure the voting in will be a mere formality. At the moment, unfortunately, all I can offer for Fresia's protection are Rendili's own resources, of which we can spare few. Still, I am willing to offer what we can for your safety until you are fully within the republic's folds and capable of drawing on it's resources for your defense. Do you have any defenses to speak of now, loyal to Fresia alone I mean? I only ask to better decide what aid I should offer you.

Marcus had gotten what he wanted, and so he wisely limited his words as he responded. It was always better to quit while one was ahead, in this political game. Now all he had to do was wait, and hope that Darma would hold up his end of the bargain. There was always the possibility that the Senator from Rendili would decide that Incom posed a competitive threat to his own economy, and sabotage the whole deal. But his sources hadn't believed Darma to be that type of man, and that is why he had been chosen as the target.
Thank you for your help and understanding, Senator. Incom's security chief assures me that we can stall an invasion long enough for aid to come from a nearby world such as Rendili. Our primary security challenge since the Mandalorians pulled out of the Core Worlds has been to find an ally close enough to provide aid before our own defenses would be overrun. The Republic was the most logical choice.
He didn't intend to provide specific numbers about their strength, at least not yet, and he hoped Darma would understand. It was very sensitive information.
Please, present our proposal to the Senate, and let me know when it would be appropriate to send a diplomatic representative to Coruscant to finalize our agreement.

Darma was relived that he would not have to weaken Rendili's defenses for the sake of Fresia. Not that he wouldn't have had it been needed, but well he was a fairly paranoid man and always hated loaning his forces to others for any reason. He made a note to add the introduction of Fresia to the republic to his list of presentations for the Senate. He thought for a moment, then nodded and turning to the Administrator's image responded as concisely as possible.
Excellent, the senate shall be informed during its next session if I have anything to say about it. You can expect a call back from me within the week. If you have nothing else to add, Administrator, I believe we are done here. It's been a pleasure working with you, and I apologize for the mix up earlier.
If he signs off, then I close the commlink, and ask Recie if anyone else awaited my attention, and learned that there was indeed another senator waiting. This one from Mon Calamari, or Dac as the locals called it, I sigh wondering at the sudden spike in my popularity with other members of the senate, then prepare to receive him.

Marcus smiled, and nodded in acknowledgement of their plan, before signing off. He had achieved everything he had hoped to achieve from the call, and as a bonus, Darma seemed anxious to please the Incom representatives, after embarrassing himself early in the discussion. The administrator hoped that he had gained some lasting influence with the man, who by all reports was a rising leader in the Republic. No apologies necessary, Senator. Good day. With a click, the blue-tinged holo disappeared in a tiny puff of static as the call ended.

Darma checks the time and then gathers his data pad, and locks his console, before stepping out to collect his aides. The group makes their way over to the rotunda for the latest senatorial session. Recie stays at her post and takes messages for the senator as needed, as well as managing his schedule in general.

In the office, Belf'ima takes the glass, and sips absentmindedly. It is clear that her thoughts are far off. She takes the key and sets in on the table, intending to leave it. While it is true that this could give her certain advantages, like planting bugs, the bugs would be detected quickly, as the offices are swept regularly. Moreover, it could be political suicide if she was caught with such a key. It could be seen as divided loyalties, or worse, rumored that she was having an affair with him. Her mind might not be focused, but her instincts still reacted seamlessly.
I cannot accept the aid at this time. The Twi'lek are a proud people with a proud tradition. I cannot accept aid without authorization for the Clan Council, and since the Clan Council is dead, it will take time for a new one to be selected. Even then, I cannot guarantee their acceptance, nor their continued involvement in the Republic. I am sure you understand.

Pride be... Well, fine, if that's how things have to be so let it be. Darma bit down on a sharp retort, knowing that he should have known this would come up. Instead, he takes a deep breath and bows his head in assent. She knew best as far as Ryloth went, at least until Crom'nen showed up or sent word, assuming of course he hadn't been grievously wounded or killed in action. This set his thoughts aback and forced him to consider other alternatives.
Very well, I will hold off on sending aid. Though it will be ready to go as should your people ask for it. At any rate, make yourself at home, I can still go see about reprimanding the fools that dropped a SD on a republic world.
I pick up the data-card holding a copy of the current file on Ryloth, and head for the door. I have no intention of letting anyone get away with the murder of so many citizens. I wasn't concerned with any backstabbing from Belf'ima not because I didn't expect it, or think her capable of it, but because of my own trust in my security. That brought to memory the alert I'd received early today from Rendili. Just before I leave the office I check my data-pad and see that someone has been busy on Rendili as well, executing a majority of my personal security staff there and setting off several bombs nearby killing and wounding several civilians as a distraction for local law enforcement. I lock the pad and exit the office with a sigh, the day just kept getting better and better. I make for the Plaza, I need some space to walk and think properly, without letting my frustrations and personal feelings get in the way.

Belf'ima waited until the VC departed, then walked over to his window and looked out. The hive of activity in the grand city that was Coruscant reminded her of life. Life still existed. And as long as life existed, Crom'nen would find victory. She had to believe in Crom'nen. He had faced impossible situations, far worse than this, and not only survived, but won. She needed to see that. She departed for her own office.

Recie returns to the office, and finds it vacated, and resumes her position behind the desk in the main room. She looks through the senator's notes on the last session and notes that Fresia needs to be contacted, and sends a preliminary message while setting up a reminder for the Senator to make an official call of state.
ATTN: Admin Adenn, Marcus. The senate has accepted Fresia as a voting member, an official call will follow shortly.

Darma sat down at his desk and looked through his to-do list, and noticed that he still had not gotten around to making an official welcoming call to Fresia since its acceptance into the republic. Sighing he put his best welcoming face on and began recording the message. A few minutes later he finished it and sent it on it's way, then he began to sort through his other work and noticed the alert he'd ignored in the comity meeting earlier... He sighed again. It seemed he had made a lot of enemies in his short career, and one of them at least had decided to do something about it, wrecking his residence on Rendili and killing most of his security staff. He removed his glasses and covered his face, as his utter weariness peaked through his usual calm and hopeful mask. So much had happened, and so little of it was good, that there seemed to be no end of the destruction. Darma wondered if the republic would survive the varied difficulties plaguing it currently. Darma looked up at a chime from his comlink, it was one of his assistants. Darma slipped the mask back on, along with his glasses and answered the call, settling into the constant drudge of work.

The call from his assistance wasn't necessary, simply an act that the administrative assistance did to forewarn the Vice Chancellor about what is to come.
Two Senate Honor Guards clad all in blue with electro staff allowed themselves into his office.
With all due respect, Vice Chancellor, but the Supreme Chancellor Cihlbar is anxiously awaiting a consult from you.
The two guards posted up themselves just inside the remaining open door on either side; making them seem as if they are assign to guard his office. . .or escort him out. Whichever the case. The sight of guards instead of a holocomm message could give Darma a clue about the possible severity of the meeting. . . .

Well, this was unusual... Best see what the Dac wants then. Darma nodded, locked his desk down, and then left his office, making his way toward the Chancellor's office. He moved with as much haste as he could get from a lengthened stride, but he did not run. That would draw far more attention than was necessary for this meeting. He wondered why the Chancellor had sent his guard instead of calling, but kept his mind from generating wild theories of it's own accord, he would know soon enough.

Darma retruned to his office, his head full of things to do. As he passed through the small lobby, he instructed Recie to send a polite invitation to the Vor representative, asking for a ranking member of the war-host to be contacted on his behalf and patched through, or to have them arrive in person if one was in system and available. He ahd a small matter of military significance to run by a military mind to prevent awkward snags in the field. He then shut the door to his office and settled in to begin the preparations for the many projects spawned from his last meeting with the chancellor.

Who came was not a Vor. Admiral Telli Savalas was a strait backed, bald and perfect immage of an imperial Admiral. In his stance, in his rigid facial expression, in his mannerisms. Lucky for him, he also had some PR knowledge and did not show up in his imperial fine ware. The last thing these nice Republic people needed is a full fledged imperial admiral walking through their halls as if he owned it.
He was wearing local fashion. The expensive kind. Gray open suit with a purple shirt underneath. Now, that he wasnt wearing Imperial gray, he was happy to endulge in a stress reliefiing activity. Wearing pilot sunglasses and twirling a lollipop in his mouth. Some might think this was some kind of mocking gesture, but no. It was just how Telli Savalas was casual. What he liked.
He got through security armed with his documents, and finally found himself standing in front of Darmas assistant, reaching his documents to her and taking the sunglasses off so she/he could take a good look.
-Admiral Savalas- "Admiral Telli Savalas, from Strike Force Nemesis Triton, the vor Warhost. Here to see mr Darma."

Recie, the receptionist droid briefly glanced at his papers and face, matching them to what flimsy records the Republic had of the Vor war host in three short seconds, this man would meet Darma's needs exactly. She buzzed the Senator to be certain he wasn't in the middle of something, before sending the man into the Senator's main office.
The office was expansive, like most senatorial offices, a testament to the power and prestige of the senator, though this particular senator found it wasteful. The room was tastefully decorated in maroon with black and white trim, it held a small museum of things from and around Rendili, mostly inspirational pieces and holograms, as well as the senator's desk and three chairs of varying size to better accommodate the many different clientele coming to visit. Sitting behind his desk, Darma looked up and smiled warmly at the Admiral as he walked in. Darma rose and offered his hand, though he did it in such a way that might be played off as simply offering a seat, if was not Savalas's custom to shake hands in greeting.
Welcome Admiral Savalas, it's a pleasure to meet you, I may have a great deal of work for you to do in the not to distant future, so long as it doesn't conflict with your primary loyalties of course. The first task is to reconnaissance the Empire. We know only what they tell us of their strength and difficulties. Can you and would you, be able to do this for the Republic? I have a list of worlds that have been power houses for the empire in previous years, excluding Coruscant of course, for you to look through if you are interested. And my only request as far as the RoE (Rules of Engagement) are concerned is don't get caught, we can't afford open war right now, as only your own forces and a few scattered squadrons are left to defend the republic from whatever forces the Empire has to throw at us, which I'm not entirely convinced is as small as they claim.

Admiral Savalas was a handshake man. He would place a lot of first impression points on how a man shakes hands, and it was a good start that Darma offered his. He took a seat and at once noted that the senator did not ask if he wanted to drink something. Telly twirled the lollipop while listening to Darma and then sat a second, just watching the man. No interaction, no words, just those big baby blues sizing up the senator. Then finally, he spoke. He had a gruff voice, that "no monkey business" kind of putting everything on the table sort of gruffness.
-Telly Savalas- "Can be done. Can be done quietly. I will have some demands.
First off, I wouldnt mind if you kept the Republics military weaknesses to yourself. I havent even said a word to you and you are coming on to me with military intelligence as if we were academy buddies. Its as simple as pisser manners. If you have a big dick, you stand in the middle, waving it around. If you have a tiny one, you stand in the corner and make your business quickly and quietly.
This mission is off the books, or at least not very official. You dont want the grocery store clerk to know we are poking the big bad beast in the side to see if it reacts, no? If we fail, Nemesis Triton gets fracked in the hind and we will look like amature idiots. If we succeed, you will have a fat file on your desk and we will still look like a bully in the school yard. I want a mission with huge PR and media coverage. Let the good people of the Republic know that the Vor Warhost is nice and cosy on their side, fighting the good fight and all that.
Plus.... the boys will have something to do, His Holyness will be far away from coruscant AND vortex. Will lighten a lot of burdens. So, Deal?"
He put the lollipop back in his mouth.

He liked this man already, true he could have done the briefing without some of the details, but Darma had decided to trust this emissary for better or for worse. If that made a bad first impression, oh well. Neither of them had time to build up trust the usual way, so Darma was gambling that the Vor would play ball for at least a little while. He'd expected a request for a public mission, but he didn't have much to offer him there. Not yet anyway, but if history was any indicator, things would change rapidly enough.
This mission doesn't exist, that's why you're getting it from me directly. And yes I gave you more than you absolutely needed to know, which probably seems sloppy, but I thought it wise to emphasize just how poorly things would turn out if they went south. I know you and your boys are pros at this, but it's easy to slack off when given an easy job by a comparably incompetent organization. I've seen it done in business many times, and it's happened before in other military outfits. I just don't want you to lose good men for no reason. There are no theatres of operation to send you to with a media crew, yet. ... On Second thoughts, I believe you could go and perform a raid against the IR though they have been quite of late, and we have had larger problems on our plate until now. I will see about sending a force against them through the proper channels, that way you'll get all the coverage you could possibly want and then some. Give me some time to work the public campaign into existence, there may be other targets that need to be hit as well.
Forgive my manners, they have left me entirely, would like some refreshment?

-Telly Savalas- "Something strong and expensive will suffice."
A raid? He may not be wearing a uniform, but that didnt make him a savage. He had been an imperial admiral, for christs sake.
-Telly Savalas- "If you want war, then raiding is what we will do, but that is a very bad idea. What is most likely going to happen is that the Empire will try to add its long lost arms to the torso. Imperial Remnant, Iron Fists, What is left of the Phoenix Imperium and... well, would do the Order of the Eye, but we are sitting on this side of the fence, see? If its recon you want on the Imperial remnant you can do it yourself. Just send them dimplomatic envoys with some pact or other, and make sure the ships they use are loaded with scanning equipment. As far as I know, the Imperial Remnant hasnt closed itself since the war.
I am good with your Promise on an on the books mission, Mr Darma, but remember this. I am a military man, and you are a politician. My bread is cannons, yours are promises. The only one that is sure out of those two are the cannons."
The bald human with a lolipop in his mouth smiled a large smile with great white teeth. There was nothing unnatural about it, it just wasnt a joyful smile. It was more like a "Calm your tits or I slap you".
-Telly Savalas- "There is also the issue of Patrolling. You arent the only bright mind that popped up with this recon mission. I am sure some smartass is doing it on the other side of the fence. What you need is to make that small dick of yours look big. Get some military presence out there. Set up a quick response plan, so you can use the little you have effectively. I am Sure his holyness would like to be in that planning too.
See, we had the drop on you. If we wanted, we could have just trashed the senate with a hundred and two guns and left. Lucky for you, we came here with our dicks in pants and nice cherry pie in hand. Others might not have the same intentions, but have the cannons to match, know what I mean?"

Darma did know, and he was well aware of how fortunate they had been that the Vor had so suddenly become friendly. He was also aware that for all his pushing, things were moving slowly on the re-arming front, mostly due to insufficient personnel recruitment. But recruiting campaigns were also being stepped up, as well as general PR campaigns. Things were moving, and in the right direction, just very slowly.
Patrolling, and other defensive matters, are not my purview; you'll have to speak with the admiralty on that, though I see your point and agree that defenses need to be set up. Something strong and expensive you say... I'll see what we can do. How likely are those arms to re-attach to the Imperial torso? And here is the list of sectors we'd like to know about first. I hand the man a data-chip, containing the relatively short list of Kuat, Korriban, Bilbringi, Eriadu, Bastion and Corulag. With the list was a note: Tackle in any order, and continue recon as necessary.
