Kalene's efforts were not in vane as she used the force to separate the old man from her master. But it seemed some damage, what ever it was, had already been done. Ashara collapsed to the floor, heaving and coughing, trying to keep herself from throwing up her breakfast. Seeing that at least the primary threat was incapacitated, the man attempted to grab hold of Kalene's face.
=Old Cultist= Oh? Little Ashara has taken a pupal of her own? Then you shall make a fine subject for our tests!
If he managed to get his hands on her head, he would use the Force to make the young girl relive the most painful moments of her life, in sharp detail, clearer than when she had lived through them herself. He hoped this would incapacitate her fully, so he could move on to finish Ashara off. But the girl was wily and had youth on her side.

Breaking free of her grip on him, the man then turned to her, no doubt ready to bring her to her knees just as she had her master. However, the anger at the action against Ashara granted her strangely clear focus as she stepped to the side. It wasn't fully successful in evading the man as his hand brush against her forehead. A bit of what the man attempted to do pass through her, yet it meant nothing as her life had been quite pleasant, providing no painful memories. Anything that could have been used was minute and without his ability to fully manipulate them, they did nothing to slow her down.
As he passed by her, she focused the Force around his feet and pulled, looking to send him face-first into the ground. From there, she would use the Force to take hold of his limbs and bind them, the limits that seemed to exist within her Force reserves fading as if a construct of her mind rather than a true limitation. She held him there, refraining to give in to the moment that would cause her to draw her weapon or truly torture the man with any form of pain. Instead, she spoke with a sharpness that surprised even her. "Who are you? What have you done to my master?"

The old man had severely underestimated the younger woman. He fell to the ground and only just had time to turn himself onto his back before he felt a surprisingly strong Force holding him in place. There may have been a moment of fear or doubt in the man, but it soon passed as his resolve strengthened and he saw opportunity in the girls anger. He had studied the Knights of Karabor and knew how they tried to walk the path of balance. But that just meant the scales were always closer to tipping towards the Dark. With a sinister laugh that could only have been mastered by an aged cultist in the most sinister of circles, the man gave a mocking reply.
=Old Man= You have not earned the right to hear my name! But as for you 'Master?' I have merely done a service to dear Ashara. I made her remember. All that pain she had buried and hidden, all the trauma. All of it back to the for front of her mind as if it were happening again and again.
His gaze then turned toward the Forcespawn, she was still on the ground, writhing in unseen agony. Her usual dignity and poise were stripped away and revealed a scared and hurt woman. Her mind tried to rebuild it's defenses, but as long as she was in such close proximity to the cultist, it would prove impossible.

Kalene's head dropped as her eyes focused upon the man. His laughs and mockery of Ashara began to stir something within her. Was it anger? Never before had she truly felt such things have come from such a peaceful life. Frustrations and irritation, perhaps, but never true anger. As the man figured, the darker energies that surrounded the girl began to stir, aided by the power attempted against her just moments ago. Her eyes began to darken from their natural hue.
Her eyes then turned to her master as did the man's. Her breath became heavy as she saw the pain her master was in. It infuriated her. But she forced herself to remain in control. She may have never truly felt the emotion properly, but the lessons Ashara had taught her were echoed in her mind as her eyes laid upon the Forcespawn. She wouldn't;t let herself become overcome by the emotion, but so too would she allow it to grant her the strength needed to hold this man.
Lifting her hand, she wrapped the Force around the man to lift him in the air and slowly navigated him away from Ashara and towards the troops that had come with them "You will pay for your crimes here. You and those residing upon this world that walk with you will fall this day. We have come to eradicate the likes of you and cleanse this world. I'm sure the others will have no qualms with your death."

The old man simply laughed as he was drug away by the waiting guards. It seemed he had no fear or remorse over being captured, only an insane glee at the harm he had caused. Once he was away, Ashara slowly seemed to calm down. The writhing stopped, and so did her cries, which subsided into the occasional whimper. With some manor of control over her body and mind restored, her trembling gray hands moved up to her head and rubbed at the scalp around the base of her horns. After another moment, she managed to lift herself to be sitting hunched over, her hands now moving over her body, as if checking for scars or wounds. Tears still welled in her eyes, but they had stopped flowing, Finally her golden gaze turned outward where she saw Kalene and could feel the dark that had surrounded her. Taking some deep breaths and pushing through enough of the pain to speak, she spoke softly to the squire.
=Ashara= Ka- Kalene... Are you alright?

Kalene watched as the guards hauled the man away, not the slightest of concern for any punishment that awaited him. Was that the price of the dark-side, to lose one's mind that even death left one unaffected? Or was it merely personal insanity that prompted it. Whatever the reason, it was no longer her problem. This was part of the reason the guards were here and she was sure they would be thrilled to have been able to enact the duty Zion gave them.
Taking several deep breaths, her own mind and spirit began to calm down as the darkness within her began to wisp away. She stumbled back a couple of steps, catching herself from falling over. The build of emotion had allowed her to break past the limits she felt she had, erasing doubt and uncertainty. But it was still a taxing experience. Standing tall once more, she made her way back to where her master lay.
By the time she had covered the small distance, Ashara had regained control of herself and was sitting up, her golden eyes fixed upon the girl. With the question asked, Kalene could only tilt her head in confusion. Sure, she had to take hold of the man and remove him from the area, but she hadn't been injured in the slightest. "I'm fine. What about you? What happened?"

Ashara's breaths slowed as she exerted a large amount of will power to bring herself back to a state resembling calm. What had happened to her? One moment she had been here, tending to the wounded, and the next she seemed so far away, like in a different place... or time. She began to realize what had happened to her as she forced herself back to her feet.
=Ashara= I- I will be fine, young one. As far as what happened, I have a theory. I believe the man used the Force to bring memories back that I had suppressed, and made me relive them in vivid detail. But that man didn't hurt you at all, did he?
Every breath had to be measured and controlled or she would once more give the appearance of panicking. But it was hard, she could almost still feel the instruments and twisted Force powers that were used in her reshaping. The memory of the pain was bad enough, the Forcespawn was surprised she survived it at all.

Despite how calm Ashara looked, Kalene could tell that the Forcespawn was doing what she could to keep from breaking. Her senses had yet to develop to such a degree that figuring out such truth was an easy task, yet she didn't need them. Sheer observation was all that was required. From how hard it shook the normally composed woman to the teetering edge her emotions laid was all that was needed to present reality. Still, the apprentice stayed quiet so as to not set her master off once again.
She merely listened as Ashara spoke of what she felt happened. Suppressed memories? Was she trying to hide something from the rest of them or was she hiding them from herself? Even still, was it another who had suppressed them from her? So many questions, including just what those memories were. Yet, she refrained from asking, all for the sake of respect, privacy, and do not set the Forcespawn off again.
When asked if the man had hurt her, Kalene shook her head. "No, he didn't. If I had to guess, he might have attempted to do to me what he did to you. However, he didn't get the chance. His hand did graze my forward as he attempted to reach for me, but he couldn't get ahold of me. Didn't hurt me either. But..." Her voice trailed off as her gaze turned away. It wasn't one of shame or anything so much as it was something coming to mind. She recalled the heavy power that surged through her, the darkening of the light around her. It was then that her preconceived limits faded. "I don't know what happened when his hand brushed my forehead, but something seemed to change. The light seemed to dim and I felt something different within, something darker. In that moment, I had let go of my thoughts and doubts as I attempted to fight back. I admit that I felt anger at the man and wanted him to pay for hurting you. I mean, I didn't want him to suffer or die or anything. I just wanted him to stop, especially in what he was doing to you. Everything came easier and without the same strain as if what was limiting me before was gone."

Breathing deeply once more, Ashara listened to all Kalene had to say and immediately knew what happened. She could also tell how much this seemed to confuse her pupal and forced a soft and understanding smile, or the best she could still fighting to contain her broken past.
=Ashara= You have had your first brush with the Darkside of the Force. It can be a valuable tool. A tool that, as you have found, can give you great strength by feeding on your anger, fear, hate, and sorrow. But as with all great power, it has the potential to corrupt it's user. You must always be careful when calling upon it or else it may not let go when you have finished with it. The Knights of Karabor do not shy away from the use of the Darkside, but we understand it's dangers and the power it has to turn good intentions to ill. When you have a better grasp of these powers of yours I will teach you more. But for now we should find some place safer, till we recover.
Ashara stood and offered a hand to her padawan. Speaking and teaching Kalene had helped to distract her from the pain and clawing memories. It was now her priority to look after her student.
=Ashara= Very well done though. Handling that mad man. You truly are gifted.

Kalene listened as Ashara spoke, her head turning away and she worked to process the clarity of the situation. So what she felt was the Dark-side? She was still new to everything that it seemed strange and overwhelming, just as it did the first couple of days she began to learn about the Force and how to utilize it. In fact, she would go so far as to say it was still a bit overwhelming, coming to terms with the reality of it all. But as she dwelled upon it, the more it made sense to her. She had felt it, the change within her in those few moments. She had become someone else entirely with her anger and her desires. It was scary to know the hold it could have on her, yet it felt freeing at the same time, even exhilarating now that she thought about it.
But Ashara and expressed the dangers, if only slightly. If she allowed herself to hold to it too much, especially within her early stages of training, it could consume and control her. That was something she didn't want. It made her dwell on memory not barely a month old. She had felt darkness once before but feared it and the power it gave off. However, now the tables had turned and she had a glimpse of it within herself. That glimpse was enough to make her wonder, enough to begin a shift in her perspective.
Looking up, she saw that her master had stood. Nodding at her idea of moving to a safer place, for the time being, Kalene began to lead them out of the area, ready to assist her master as needed. It was then that the compliment came. She blushed a little as she looked down. "I...well...um...thank you, master."

Ashara's mind started to clear of, or more accurately, re-compartmentalize all the memories she had been forced to endure. She couldn't help but think that Kalene's naturally Light presence was helping with that.
The Forcespawn lead the way back to one of the landing craft where she acquired them some rations. Food often helped after trying situations such as that, but also, would help restore some of Kalene's energy.
=Ashara= So, aside from the... well... Incident, how did you feel about the work you were doing? Do you think you have a grasp of it?

As they walked, Kalene could sense Ashara starting to genuinely settle as she worked through the memories that had been awakened within her. It was a good sign for Kalene as it reassured her that the Forcespawn was okay and that there was little more to worry about. This turned her attention back to what had happened to herself. So much she didn't understand, yet so much more that became clear as day. Once the mission was over, she'd need to take time to fully process all that had transpired.
Reaching the transport that brought them, Kalene took one of the rations and began to eat, her stomach beginning to rumble as she thought upon food. The situation had certainly taken its toll, especially in the hunger department. Taking a bit, she nodded as she chewed. "Yes, master. I think I've got the hang of it. And I can't help but feel that I'm a bit more capable of the task than when we arrived."

Ashara smiled as Kalene expressed she was getting the hang of healing.
=Ashara= Good, good! I seem to have assumed correctly that your natural gift with plants would translate well to mending wounds and healing the sick. She paused, her smile fades. But, what happened today also shows that the enemy will attack anywhere and that we must be ready to defend ourselves. And that is why, when we return to the Temple, I will begin your combat training. So that you may better defend yourself without needing to tap into the Darkside every time.

Kalene's head dropped as she thought on Ashara's words. It would now be time to truly start learning how to fight with a lightsaber. She had been studying combat in her free time and practiced a few times to get the hang of it, but when they got back, it would be her first lesson. Normally, she would have been nervous, but after what had happened, she wasn't, or at least not enough to take hold of her. As the Forcespawn said, danger could show up at any time and she may need to defend herself. And if it could help her without her using the Dark-side until she learned more, then it would be a welcome reality. "I'll be ready, master. I'm ready to move forward with my lessons and to become stronger."

=Ashara= Good, though I myself avoid combat as much as possible, it is something I am glad I learned when I need it. She paused for a moment to take a bite of her own food. Have you ever been in a fight before?

Kalene then shook her head. "I've practiced a few techniques, but outside of this recent encounter, I haven't been in combat."

The Forcespawn nodded. It was refreshing to interact with someone so untouched by the hardships of the galaxy. Though now that she was a Knight, it would become harder and harder to keep that innocence. Ashara was pleased to here she had already been practicing though.
=Ashara= Well, then hopefully we won't have to spend long on the basics. Have you-
Ashara suddenly went quiet in the middle of her question. She was no longer in the ship, mentally that is. The Force had given her a vision. Men and women hurried in hidden chambers, packing and storing items. She saw items and books that would have meant nothing to her before today. But now she knew, these were those who had tortured her and made her into a Forcespawn. But as soon as the vision had started, it was gone. Ashara grasped the arm of the chair she was sitting in for support. Her eyes slowly lifted to Kalene as sweat dripped down her face.
=Ashara= There are more. More people like that old man, somewhere in this city. They are trying to escape. Hide evidence. I have to find them and stop them.

It made her smile knowing that taking the initiative to begin practicing in the basics of combat was a good choice. As such, she hoped it would help her to pick up lightsaber combat a bit faster, just as Ashara hoped. That smile faded though as the Forcespawn suddenly stopped mid-sentence and seemed to zone out. It was then that the glistening drops of sweat began to appear.
Only a few moments passed, but it was enough for Kalene to know something was off, even before the first word could escape her master's lips. When she spoke of others, Kalene's hands tightened. A surge of feelings passed through her. Fear, nervousness, uncertainty, anger, determination. She had only stood against one and fell into the flow of instinct and emotion, anger being the one that guided her. It aided in her touching the Dark-side. With simply knowing more were there, she wanted to back away and not faced the others. At the same time, she wanted to bring them down for not only being the source of pain for her master but for the people here. It was in this moment that she needed to make a choice. Which path did she follow? What emotion did she allow to guide her?
In the end, it was much simpler than she thought. When Ashara spoke of having to find and stop them, Kalene took a breath and stood to her feet. "Then we will find them. I won't let you face them alone."

At first Ashara was proud of her pupil for her bravery and commitment to driving the evil doers away. But it soon turned to concern.
=Ashara= Kalene, I admire your bravery, but I don't see that it is wise for you to join me. You have only just tasted your first fight a few minutes ago. These people are incredibly dangerous.
Her golden eyes scanned the girls face. She hoped she wasn't being overly cautious, but she didn't want to lose her padawan to these cultists. It could be a good learning moment, to show Kalene the dangers of the Darkside first hand.
=Ashara= But something like this, is up to you. If you do join me, you must stay close behind me, and at the first sign of a fight turning against us, I expect you to run and hide. Your safety is more important than stopping these madmen.

Kalene shook her head. "I know that I have yet to learn how to fight and am still learning about my abilities. But I can't let you go in their alone. As hard as it'll be, I need to see this side of things, to understand and to grow. But someone needs to defend you should they try to do the same against you as the other man did." Fists clenched, Kalene's eyes focused hard on Ashara as the courage and determination to fight and protect her master burned within her.
