Gavin listened intently as Karnac went on. It was good to hear what had happened in the few months since the Zabrak's departure. But the core was the last bits of what happened to his former apprentice. He sensed the anger and uncertainty in Karnac's voice and could understand why. It was never a good feeling to find out your life was a lie in some way. But for the Zabrak, the truth was shattering, as the single reality had shaped his whole life.
When all had been said and silence befell them, Gavin only gave a thoughtful hum before looking at Karnac.
I see. I can see why your spirit would be waning. However, I would recommend taking a moment to look at things from a different lens. Through the words of your mother and this other Sith, you were created by their hand. But why should that mean the Force didn't bless you? Why must it exist as a natural existence? Most experiments of the Sith tend to create terrible abominations. But you were born a Zabrak, no different than any other aside from your extraordinary abilities. While not what you expected, the Force did bless you. In fact, it has quite the plan for you.
Gavin chuckled a bit. Hearing all this created a visible pattern that the Force expertly weaved. He might not have had the gift of sight as another close to him, but he didn't need to in this case.
These Sith had a particular plan for you that hasn't gone right since you joined the academy. I'd wager I'm where that started. You were lifted up, shaped into an arrogant Sith who saw the depth of your power. Then, you met me, who shattered your ego, though I didn't dismiss your potential. From there, look at what it shaped you into. See what the past seven years have granted you in knowledge. The Force blessed you in a way that would best serve you in a role it desired of you, not what they wanted. And while I can't see where it goes from here, your position as Champion will play a big part.

Karnac lifted his head, eyes wide, as the man spoke. Each word shed new light on a situation he thought bleak. He was told about how he was a failure, that things had gone wrong with Gavin's tutelage, and his departure with Lady Vesperia to the Resurgent Sith Conclave. He could see it now as well, with it being laid bare.
Gavin was the one the Force brought in to shatter his ego and sense of superiority while maintaining the understanding of his greater power. Vesperia did teach him a few things, but it was also a way to pry him away from the Sith on Iridonia, who would have sought him as an apprentice and reeducated him from Gavin's teachings. And with the Resurgent Sith's downfall, he could genuinely train with Gavin.
And now, here he was, back with the Sith with insight he would never had otherwise. But Gavin's mention of his place as Champion allowed him to see what the Force had planned for him. His future goal was to form a new group of Sith under the Eternal as an elite unit that followed many of the lessons Gavin instilled in him. And with that, he remembered. Gavin had claimed all those years ago that he had joined the Sith to help create a new breed of Sith, a group far more powerful than ever. However, the last seven years proved otherwise. It was but a small part of something larger. Gavin desired to train students unimpeded by the limitations of philosophy and belief. He would open the door for those willing to have an open mind and show them the many sides of the Force and the orders that followed it. The end goal for his master was the ability to see everything possible and decide for oneself what path they chose to walk and what they believed in.
But that drive to create a new breed of Sith? That was something that resonated with him. And now he could see that was always meant to be his task, his destiny. Gavin was just there to place the idea per the Force's guidance.
With a smile, he breathed a relieved breath. "Thank you for your words, Gavin. They were all I needed to hear. While the origin might not be what I thought, the story has stayed the same. I'm still the same person I always was. Just because my creators don't see me as blessed doesn't mean I'm not. But I don't need them to fulfill the purpose the Force has for me."
He then thought about his parents and what he planned to do with them, and his heart sank a bit. He had omitted it up to this point, but now it weighed on him. "But I still feel like I have failed as your apprentice. As we speak, my family and the other Sith are being held on my ship, ready to be sacrificed for the sake of a new weapon. They lied to me and only sought to use me, but they were family. It's life I shouldn't take so freely."

Gavin smiled as Zabrak's spirit began to surge with life once more. Just a few simple words were all he needed to hear to see that nothing had changed for him. But that smile faded as Karnac hung his head and spoke of his coming plans. It was a thought that upset the man as he closed his eyes.
But it wasn't for the reason one would think.
I must have failed you for you to speak to me like this. I had hoped my lessons would have helped you, but you still cling to me and the image I give off. We are two different people, Karnac. While I am honored you'd try to live up to me and how I see and do things, that isn't the path I want for you. You are meant to walk your path and have your own beliefs. You are meant to reside in the dark where I stand in the balance. You are meant to be the chaos when things become too peaceful. Don't think about whether I approve or not. I have no judgments about your choice because they are yours to make. Just because I wouldn't doesn't mean you can't. Live according to your beliefs and desires. That is all that matters. Do that, and you'll always have a proud master, no matter what happens.

If any doubts lingered in Karnac's mind, they faded with those words. Gavin was right. He needed to stop trying to follow Gavin. He needed to be himself. One final lesson before he began the next stage of his journey.
"Thank you for the pep talk, master. I will live up to your expectations and live my life according to my own rules." With a final sigh of relief, he smiled with a nod. "I should be going. I need to get a few things sorted before I get back. Until we meet again."
With that, the Zabrak turned off the holo device, and Gavin's image faded. No longer clouded by doubt, he moved to the cockpit. As he sat down, something came over him. Immediately, he brought the ship out of hyperspace. He understood it now, what he had been hearing and feeling. It was the Force pushing him forward, having him face his demons, and shedding the last bit of weight before he proceeded with his plans.
And it was speaking to him again. Closing his eyes, he let it guide him as he punched in new coordinates. Rishi would be his new destination. He even had an idea as to why. It was a place Dragus tended to operate from. His skills in alchemy would be an incredible boon in his weapon's creation.
With his new course set, the Tûaradi blasted off into hyperspace again.
