Although there is some plant life here, largely consisting of tall, sparse trees and spiny ground cover along the twilight meridian, in addition to some small patches of rainforest, the majority of the open terrain is made up of either harsh windy deserts with a scattering of acidic pools (located on the light side), or frozen mountain tundras (located on the dark side.)

Ten miles North of the Dark Diamond Palace
Alex wondered what his master was up and why he didn't take him. Alex knew that his was probably heading towards the Dark Diamond Palace, because of the darkness that was approaching the planet. Alex could sense that a battle was taking place above the planet. Alex walked down the steps of the temple, his home since his master brought him to Iridonia. Alex sensed that if the darkness came down to the planet's surface something terrible would happen, he just didn't know what it was. A thought occurred to Alex as he reached the bottom of the temple, his master went to the palace in case the darkness showed up there. His master was planning on fighting the darkness without him. Alex hated that his master would do such a thing, but he would be there at his master's side whether or not he wanted him there. Alex grabbed his cloak that was hanging off of a branch, and slipped it over himself. He proceeded to walk towards the palace.

Five Miles North of the Dark Diamond Palace
Alex had stop to have a short rest about half way there. When he looked up he could see what looked like a Nebula-Class Star Destroyer floating above the capital city, although he couldn't be certain as he had only seen one in a holo recording. He knew that he would need to hurry it up if he was going to help his master. Alex start to walk faster which turned into a light jog. The Darkness that Alex had sensed early was on the ship floating above Malidris. Who or what the darkness was Alex couldn't be sure.

Outside of the Malidris' Wall
Alex had finally arrived at the Capital city, near the entrance into the city he noticed the speeder from the temple. His Master was here, now all Alex had to do was to get to the palace with encountering too many invaders. The task ahead of Alex wasn't an easy one, but he would join his master to combat the darkness. Alex sensed another dark energy coming from the palace, this couldn't be good. With that Alex hurried off into the city.

10 Hours before the invasion. 120 Miles West of Malidris
Stavrax and his squad were given an urgent assignment, to gather Intel on a quickly rising anarchist movement called the Red Vortex. Very little was actually known about the group except that they had place a bomb in a residential living area in Malidris. The same bomb that caused the pipe to piece Stavrax's upper chest. As much as he would like to get his revenge on the group, he wouldn't as he had a job to do and he would complete it without any hiccups or at least try to. Stavrax was situated on a ridge and had a clear view of the anarchist's encampment through his KX-60 Blaster rifle scope. Corporal Sykes was behind a large grouping of rocks setting up a long range transmitter. Specialist Ward managed to infiltrate the camp as a new recruit. His job was to plant bugs in their communication equipment to so that the Command could listen in on all of the operations, and use the information they heard to coordinated a multiple strikes against the anarchist. Private First Class Zinn was back at the speeder, guarding it.
"Corporal, How's the setup going?"
"Almost done Sarge."
"Good, how's operation fly on the wall going Ward?"
" I'm doing fine dad, i'll be out to see you soon"
Stavrax grinned slightly as Ward was obviously pretending to talk to his father, as to not arouse suspicion of the anarchists. Stavrax know that Ward hated this type of mission, since he would rather be blowing shit up.
"Speeder's fine too Sarge"
Zinn would rather be the one planting the bugs than guarding the speeder, but according to the little Intel that they did have Ward was the kind of person they would most likely try to recruit. Stavrax was about to tell to cut the chatter, when Sykes come on to let Stavrax know that the Transmitter was online and was now transmitting the live audio from the bugs that Ward was planting.
"Sarge, it's up and transmitting"
"Good Work Corporal, now everyone radio silent"
"Alright dad, i miss you too bye"
Stavrax and his squad would spend the next few hours watching and listening to the anarchists, when they decided to move their camp farther away. Stavrax knew that they would have to follow them soon enough.

10 hours before invasion. 120 miles west of Malidris. Red Vortex Encampment.
Inside an old Galatic Empire-era prefab building, Kaz Del Oucoa stood over a portable holo-table reviewing stats. His wife, Selina Del Oucoa stood off to his left and his brother, Icarus Del Oucoa stood off to his right. The rest of the important people sat facing the table, waiting for Kaz to speak. After a few moments longer of silence permeated by the howling winds outside the structure, Kaz spoke. His voice was strong and steady, with a charismatic smoothness to it.
"I have gathered you all here today to talk about how our government has failed us. First, allowing humans on the ruling council was a big mistake. They care nothing for our way of life and are only interested in lining their own pockets. Allowing Osmond and Merle to be on the council was also a mistake. Some might say they are as bad as the humans. And everyone willing to dig for the facts know that Osmond and Merle have their hands in the yarrock trade. Which is illegal, I might add. So we've allowed humans and crooked politicians be placed on the ruling council. And we all wonder why the living conditions within Malidris are deteriorating the way they are. The councilmen keep stuffing their own pockets with the credits that are supposed to be invested back into our infrastructure. And that is why we attack the government. For swindling our resources and selling us out to humans. The only way we can change this is to eliminate the problematic members of the council. Fitzwilliam, Season, Amsel and Danvier have been pushing for the election of a new Emperor. But with Osmond and Merle standing in the way of that, our government will stagnate and collapse, making us prey for outsiders. I have arranged for shipments of weapons and those loyal to us to be transferred to Starport Velecta. With the old V-150 Planet Defender ready to be utilized, we will be able to lock down all travel to and from the city until our demands are met."
There was a murmur of approval that ran through those listening to Kaz's speech. Kaz nodded.
"You all know what's at stake here. And you all have jobs to do. Get to them."
As the Zabraks filed out of the building, Icarus stepped closer to Kaz and whispered in his ear.
"Sir, the new recruits are here."
Kaz nodded again.
"Send them in."
Icarus nodded and walked out of the room to go gather the new recruits the had picked up from Malidris and Wortan.

Ten Hours minutes before the invasion,120 miles west of Malidris. Red Vortex Encampment.
Clark Ward, Code name: Hawk
As Clark finished his call with "Dad" a code name for the Sarge, a high ranking member of the Red Vortex came out and signaled for him and the other recruits to come to him. At First Clark was sure what it was about, but then an idea popped into his head. A meeting with the leader of the Red Vortex. Clark quickly went through his cover story in his head. He was Hawk a troubled kid who joined the military at the age of 18 at the wishes of his parents, Trent and Sophie. He excelled at demolitions, his superiors used him as an scapegoat and dishonorable discharged him. He then went and set off a couple of small bombings as a way to protest the current government. Not long after that he was recruited into the Red Vortex. Clark had to admit to himself that both Damian and Lydia did an excellent job at his cover story, since there are records of "Hawk's" service and his discharge and school records and of course a birth certificate. The two of them left nothing to chance. Clark walked into the building and spotted the leader of the Red Vortex. He looked as if he also served in the military. For that he had Clark's respect.

10 Hours before the invasion. 120 miles west of Malidris. Red Vortex Encampment.
Icarus Del Oucoa led the new recruits into the building.
"Alright nuggets! Front and center! Attention!"
He watched with satisfaction as the new recruits lined up and snapped to attention. The towering Zabrak walked to the front of the room where his brother stood.
Kaz nodded as his brother took his place beside him.
"Thank you brother. I'll take it from here."
Kaz got to his feet and walked forward, clearing his throat as he did so.
"As I am sure you are all aware, you know who we are. You've heard about us from the holonet. We are the Red Vortex. I am Kaz Del Oucoa."
He pauses, then begins to walk down the line of recruits as he continues speaking again.
"I imagine you have heard a great deal of things from about us. We seem to be the hottest topic in Malidris right now. But not all of what you heard is true. We are fighting for a better Iridonia. We are fighting to clear up the corruption that stagnates the Ruling Council and prevents them from electing a new Emperor. We do not attack innocents. We do not harm bystanders. We are quick, clean and efficient in taking down our targets. We blow up targets to make a point, but it is never in the name of violence or to harm anyone. We do not kill needlessly. I served in the army. I still uphold the virtues and values that make our world what is it. A place of honor. A place of respect. We need to end this stagnation and cut of the gangrenous limb before it kills all of the motherland."
Kaz paused before the end and reads his name tag before looking into his eyes.
"Recruit Hawk! You love Iridonia. You love your rights and freedoms. If put in place to take out one of the members of the Ruling Council, would you?"
Kaz waited for the young Zabrak to speak, before he continued.

10 Hours before the invasion. 120 miles west of Malidris. Red Vortex Encampment.
Clark Ward, Code name: Hawk
Clark listened to Kaz the leader of the Red Vortex. Then Kaz asked him a question about taking out one of the ruling counsel members. Clark himself wouldn't do so unless ordered by Stavrax, but his cover Hawk would with out a doubt. Not wanting to keep Kaz waiting and the eyes of high ranking members on him, Clark answered calmly and quickly.
"Of Course, I would. They need to pay for all they have done"
Clark finished speaking, and stood there waiting for the leader of the Red Vortex to respond.
Meanwhile at a ridge over looking the Encampment.
Sergeant Stavrax, Code name: "Dad"
Stavrax listened in on the conversation, through a bug that was planted earlier by an deep cover agent. Stavrax wondered why high command would have a spec ops squad doing recon when they already had a deep cover agent in the group, something about this was starting to bother him.

10 hours before invasion. 120 miles West of Malidris. Red Vortex Encampment.
Kaz smiled at the recruit's response.
"Excellent. Of course, I would never order you to just randomly kill a Ruling Councillor, unless it was one of the Councillors we have tagged as targets. Not all of them a guilty. But a good portion of them are."
Kaz steps back from Hawk and returns to the head of the group.
"Now that you know a little bit more about us, perhaps you will see us in a different light. Perhaps not. Either way, I do not care. Icarus, have the recruits begin packing the camp up. Our position is compromised. Send all of the new recruits to Wortan once that is completed. You will accompany them. The rest of us will load up and head for the spaceport in Malidris."
And with that, Icarus nodded in acknowledgement as Kaz left the room. Icarus stepped forward.
"Alright maggots! You heard the Commander. You are to help pack up the camp and then board the shuttle for Wortan. Dismissed."
And with that, Icarus led the new recruits out of the main building, getting them ready to start packing up the camp so they could move their operations.

8 hours before First Order invasion. 120 miles West of Malidris. Red Vortex Encampment.
Icarus supervised the last few crates of comm equipment being loaded on to the shuttles bound for Wortan. Everything taken down had been meticulously inspected for any sort of tracer or bug that would transmit information back to Iridonian Armed Forces HQ. Several bugs had been found. But Icarus discreetly kept that information to himself. There was no need to start a panic, or tip off any of the spies planted within their ranks. At least, not yet. Kaz had his hands full with the next phase of the operation. He didn't need to be worrying about that yet. As Icarus watched and waited, the ever seductive and slender built Selina approached him. He nodded to acknowledge her presence, waiting for her to speak. After a few moments of simply watching the new recruits load themselves onto the shuttles, she spoke.
"You are to accompany the new recruits back to Wortan. Once situated back at our base, you are to...initiate them properly. My husband has his suspicions that ICI has placed several spies within our ranks. His contacts in the IAF have stated rumors that there is a Special Ops team tailing us. Our surveillance drones confirm it."
Selina then unclipped her portable holo-device, activated it and showed Icarus the image of a Iridonian Armed Forces Sergeant.
"This is IAF Sergeant Borgo Stavrax. He and his team are currently assigned to bring us down. They have set up a small listening post a few clicks away from us. All information regarding his team is classified and our contacts in the IAF don't have the clearance to access it. All we know is that Sergeant Stavrax is definitely involved."
Selina glanced up at Icarus, who seemed to be enraged at this new information. He, however, did not display any obvious tells. He spoke after a few minutes of silently seething with anger.
"So, it would seem that the Army and Central Intelligence wants to shut us down. I will not act upon this new information, but now that my suspicions have been confirmed, you need to see these."
Icarus reached into his pocket and withdrew his hand. He opened his closed fist, palm up. Sitting in his palm were four listening devices.
"These were recovered as we dismantled our communications array. I have disabled them. Notice how three of them are different than the other? My guess is Iridonian Central Intelligence has been in our midst for a while. This other device is a listening device as well as a tracker. Seems like the Army finally decided to join in."
Selina sighed as she looked at the devices in Icarus' hand.
"If the ICI and IAF are bugging us, then there is no telling what they know. Our next mission may be compromised...but we cannot tell Kaz yet. I will send you all information I have gathered on Sergeant Stavrax and his team. You will proceed to Wortan as directed. I will pursue Stavrax and his team from here. If I catch them before the operation goes live, I will bring them to Wortan for interrogation. If I don't, I will report back to Kaz in Malidris."
Icarus nodded in agreement. Selina returned her holo back to her belt and then walked off. Icarus continued to watch at the last of the recruits and members not involved with the Starport assignment loaded up. He closed his fist angrily, crushing the small devices. Once back in Wortan, he would begin the initiation of the new recruits. And he would personally see to the interrogation of the spies, should Selina uncover them before the Starport op went live.

5 Hours before First Order Invasion, 60 Miles West of Malidris.
Stavrax was sitting in the driver's seat of their speeder win Zinn in the passenger seat, Sykes had taken a speeder bike to follow the Red Vortex transport, in order to aid Ward should he need it. Stavrax was worried because right before they left their scouting spot, Sykes had noticed that several of their bugs were deactivated, which was not a good sign. Stavrax needed to debrief both ICI and IAF, since the spy that ICI had placed in the Red Vortex was most likely unaware of the current situation. Stavrax knew that Ward could handled himself, but he might need backup and he will be grateful for Sykes keeping his distance and monitoring the Op. It wouldn't be long before they reached the city and they could get an update on their next move.
Sir, it looks like a sand storm is headed this way. I think we should take cover and wait it out.
"Not a bad idea Private. Keep an eye out for a cave we could wait the storm out in."
Yes sir
Thirty minutes later, Ten miles closer.
Sir there's a cave just up ahead.
"Good eye Private"
Stavrax piloted the speeder into the cave, and just as they got into the cave the sand storm came in fast. Both Stavrax and Zinn looked at the cave's entrance and they could see nothing but sand. It was a good thing that they found the cave when they did or they would have been lost for an hour at least.

4.5 hours before First Order invasion. 52 miles west of Malidris.
Selina Del Oucoa lay hunkered down beneath her protective tarp. Her speeder bike was park near a large boulder with the tarp folded over it. Her equipment bag and several metal spikes held down the other end of the tarp. She was safe from the sandstorm, for the time being. But she would lose the trail of her foe once it had passed. But there was nothing she could do about it now. Being this far out from Malidris, it was pretty clear that Stavrax was heading back to IAF HQ. No doubt alerted by the sudden deactivation of several listening devices. He would run, but he wouldn't get far. Selina never lost her prey, once she had the trail.

2 Hours before first order invasion, just outside of Malidris.
The sand storm last only an hour, and for next hour and a half Zinn and Stavrax rode in silence until they reached the outside of the capital city. Stavrax drove towards the gate where he saw an old human male wearing robes getting off of a speeder bike. This man had said something to the guards and they hurried behind him as he entered the city, something was off about that old man. Stavrax parked the speeder by the gate so that they could continue on feet. The ICI hated to be kept waiting which is why they were going on feet the rest of the way. There is a little bit of a rivalry between IAF and ICI, so keeping ICI waiting was a good way to allow the IAF to get everything in order for the update, so that they won't be caught off guard.

As soon as the Sandstorm was over, Selina was on the move. Within minutes of vacating her sheltered spot, she located a cave, large enough to fit a landspeeder. And there were tracks in the sand. Two sets. Her prey had been holed up in the cave during the sandstorm. She knew they were heading back to Malidris. Being a Sergeant in the IAF, Stavrax was likely heading back to give an update. Selina hoped back on her speeder bike and opened the throttle. She needed to get to the city and find them before it was too late. If this Sergeant was assigned to stop the Red Vortex, any information he had, real or fake, could compromise everything they had worked for. The speeder bike shot across the rough terrain of Iridonia, heading towards the great walled city of Malidris.

Iridonia. Tomb of Skaar.
Garbed in a rough cloak, clutching a walking stick, Viox Savage finally had reached the plateau that held the entrance to the Tomb of Skaar, an Elder of Clan Savage. His hike on foot had been uneventful. From Malidris, it had taken him several days. But he needed to prove he still could do it. That being a High Admiral within the First Order and more recently, the self-proclaimed King of Iridonia hadn't taken its toll on him. It hadn't, though all this walking did cause an old injury to flare up. Which was why he now leaned on the walking stick. As he made his way up to the massive wroshyyr wood doors, he paused. Great power emanated from within. Though it didn't feel old. It felt...restless. As if recently stirred from a deep slumber. Savage pushed the door open. As it creaked noisily on its weathered hinges, Savage stepped in. As he walked forward, the torches along the walls flickered to life.
How archaic...he thought to himself.
The stale air within the tomb was deathly still. And something nagged at him, just on the edge of his perceptions. Eventually he made his way to the central chamber. A few feet ahead of him stood a stone alter. Beyond that was the sarcophagus of the Zabrak Elder. It was open. And remains of a very old Zabrak skeleton lay before the foot of the sarcophagus. Odd. However, he pushed further in. And then a rush of air shot past him, whipping up dirt and dust. Savage hunched over and braced against it. When he opened his eyes, the ghostly outline of a rather primitive looking Zabrak stood before him. Cranial horns stretching upwards, bare chested, clutching a crude looking blade. He snorted in amusement.
If he hadn't known any better, he'd have thought his father stood before him. Minus the blue and black tribal tattoos.
The spirit glared at him.
Welcome, son of Savage. I've been expecting you...
Savage shifted his grip on the walking stick and eyed the spirit warily. The spirit, noticing the shift in body language, merely chuckled.
"You have nothing to fear from me, boy. Savage blood courses through your veins. We are allies. Until proven otherwise...
Savage relaxed his stance, though only slightly.
"You wished to speak with me. Why?"
The spirit eyed him up.
Because you hold the throne. Because I sensed your arrival before you set foot on Iridonia's surface. Because I feel the...wounds inflicted upon you. They bear the stench of your father...
At that last remark, Savage's eyes narrowed. He glanced at the spirit suspiciously.
"You know of my father? Explain."
The apparition shifted its position against the stone alter it was 'leaning' against.
I know a great deal more than you think. How do you think your father has lived with long? How do you think he acquired the power he now holds? How do you think he was able to manipulate events from beyond the grave to resurrect himself? He found our Tome. The Tome of the Ancients. I once loaned my power to him. And then he became greedy. Siphoning power from several of the other resting Elders, both of Clan Savage and Clan Starkiller. He desecrated their remains. Stole what did not belong to him. He deciphered the Tome and took it upon himself to dabble in things better left buried. Let's just say we all are motivated to bring him into the afterlife for good...which is where you come in.
Savage merely watched the apparition as it spoke.
So? His father had gained his power by stealing it. It actually explained a lot. However, it didn't explain how it involved him.
"Me? How exactly am I involved in this?"
The apparition seemed to grin.
Funny you should ask that. Having several millenia to plot my revenge on your father, I've decided to teach you the ritual of Force-Walking...an abhorrent ability that will allow you consume the power of myself as well as any other apparitions within the Force...
Savage narrowed his eyes.
Power on that level was unheard of. No Force wielder within the known galaxy had been able to harness that kind of power without some kind of repercussion. And with this kind deal, there was always a catch. Power like this always carried a price. Usually a heavy one.
"Why me?"
Watching him thoughtfully, the apparition spoke once more.
There is no one of pure Savage blood that can safely contain the kind of power you are about to be given. And the genetic augmentation your father forced on you using our teaching when you were younger also makes you the perfect vessel. I know you are a Sith. I know you seek power. I also know you would like nothing more than to feel your father's windpipe crushed beneath your fingers. I..we can give you that ability. The only condition is that you release us once your father is dead...so that we may finally rejoin our kin in the afterlife...
Savage's mind was buzzing.
He was being offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to essentially absorb several Force Apparitions into his body and harness their power. Ancient power. Power enough to crush his father. For good. And all he had to do was release them when he was finished? Now that was highly doubtful. Why would he surrender that kind of power? Why stop at his father? With this kind of power, he could break the First Order. He could establish his own rule. Provide for his family for eternity....
He asked the question that was on the tip of his tongue.
"What if I refuse to accept your condition?"
The apparition's face went serious.
If you decide to take us in and then refuse to release us...we will destroy you from the inside out...a very slow and agonizingly painful process. Or so I am told. Provided you don't lose your own mental stability first...and judging by what I can tell, you are already well on your way. So, with that said, it would be very unwise to disagree to our terms. We grant you the power to kill your father for good. You release us afterwards...
Thinking hard, Savage looked at the ground.
It was tempting. This kind of power was hard to come by. With so many Sith and other dark side elements within the galaxy, sources of power were becoming increasingly harder to seek out. And here, he had one at his disposal. With that kind of power, he could find a way to extend his life. He could prevent the spirits within from destroying him. It was the only way he was going to achieve his goal of becoming the Darkness Incarnate...
He glanced up at the apparition.
"Where do I sign?"
Skaar grinned.
I knew you'd not repeat your father's actions...I will contact you once the ritual is ready. Return to your duties...Sith'ari. We'll be in touch...
And with that, the apparition faded away. Savage stood there, mulling over everything that had just transpired. He turned on his heel and grinned malevolently as he exited the Tomb. Things were just getting started...

Iridonia. Ruins of the Old Savage Estate.
Within twelve hours, the spirit of Elder Skaar had summoned Viox to the ruins of his birth home. Having not stepped foot in the estate since he had been sent off to become a Jedi, it felt odd to be standing within the ruined courtyard. Several strange sigils were drawn on the ground and a few dozen torches were lit. It did little to ease the ominous darkness that permeated the estate grounds. Despite it being day, the estate was shrouded in a dark cloud. Terrible things had been done here. So much so, that it had tainted the very ground the estate had been built on. Even on as perverted by the dark side as Viox felt uncomfortable here.
He cautiously stepped forward, listening for any sort of noise. His fierce yellow eyes darted back and forth, scanning the surroundings. He was on the look out for any sort of treachery. While he did have faith in what the spirits promised, he still did not trust them.
For all he knew, this could all have been an elaborate set up to trap him and force Xander here. While not having sensed any deception earlier at Skaar's tomb, it didn't mean there wasn't any. These spirits have had several millenia or more to plot their revenge. Regardless of their intentions, he had no choice but to continue on with the plan.
The rustling of dry leaves behind him caught his attention, causing him to spin around. Standing in the sigil directly before him was the shimmering apparition of Skaar. Savage relaxed his posture a bit. Before he could speak, Skaar looked skywards and spoke, lightning crackling from his fingertips.
Come to me, ally and foe, fallen and disgraced! I summon you to me! Come forth!
The wind picked up and began to whip about the loose bits of debris littering the courtyard. Savage's cloak whipped around him. Still, he stood firm, ready to accept his fate. Several lightning bolts split the sky. As the wind continued to howl and lightning cracked the sky, several stray bolts rained down on the courtyard. The bolts impacted in the center of the remaining sigils. The harsh light caused Savage to instinctively shield his eyes. As he lowered his arm, the wind picked up even more. Skaar shouted above it all, his eyes glowing purple.
Son of Savage! Take our power! Vanquish our common enemy!
Savage stepped forward and opened his arms wide.
"To me! I accept your power and will vanquish your foe! Grant me the power of the ancients!"
In a sudden brilliant flash of light, Savage felt himself being hoisted by an invisible force up into the air. Green tendrils of energy encircled him, dancing hypnotically. Mesmerized by this display, Savage didn't notice the tendrils creeping up on him. And suddenly they all plunged into his body at once. Agonizing pain wracked his body as he twitched and writhed. And finally he howled in pain, though the roaring wind drowned him out. His entire body felt like it was on fire. Nerve endings burned. Muscles ached and twitched. He continued to scream in pain. Never before had he ever experienced pain on this level. And as suddenly as it had began, it stopped and he fell to the ground. Laying there, breathing heavily, he tried to process what had just transpired. And then the whispers of all the ancients echoed within his mind. And then it went silent. The wind died down and the lightning ceased. After a few more moments laying in the dirt, Savage picked himself up. He rose to his feet, shakily at first. He felt as though he was high. Everything was pleasantly numb. His extremities felt heavy. Every movement he made seemed to take so much effort. He flexed his hands and looked them over. It was as though he was discovering himself for the first time. And then the sensation began to fade. As everything returned to normal, he grinned. It was time to get back to Malidris. He had a planet to run. He also had several other things he needed to take care of. And an estranged father to locate...

Far out in the barren wastelands, the two brothers flew. An occasional flap of their wings, they watched as the land beneath them undulated and transformed with the passage of infinite eons. Countless possibilities and outcomes played out before them, with only one destination in particular and an apathetic outcome of events.
The fluttered as a gust of wind hit them. Huginn squawked.
Here, of all places? Why not Osarian?
Why there dear brother?
White sandy beaches and crystal-clear lakes. There is nothing here!
Aye, but there is something here.
Huginn flapped his wings and squawked once again.
Yes, but she isn’t going anywhere. We could go, enjoy some nice R&R, and be back here before anyone is the wiser.
The old man would know.
But would he care?
Muninn looked at his brother in silence for a few eons, then back to the flight ahead.
I would care.
Prude.
Aye.
They glided over the terrain for a few more eons before turning toward an outpost on the horizon.

Having gotten clear of the academy and any other obstructing terrain, Gavin began to pick up the pace on his speeder bike. He might have said a few miles away from the academy, but in truth, it was over ten miles away. Despite Mariah's internal preference to walk, using transportation was the only way to arrive at the designated battlefield within a decent time. Walking would have taken nearly half the day.
Increasing the speed, Gavin kept it under 160 kmh instead of pushing to its heights of near 600 so to keep the trip somewhat enjoyable. However, Gavin said nothing, knowing that spoken words would have been lost to the wind had he said anything. And he had also elected to stay out of her head, choosing to keep his focus on both the coming duel and the manipulation of her weather.

It was a strange thing, his silence. Even as they took off from the Academy, there was no verbal warning, only the rev of the engine. No quip as she was forced to draw herself close. Not even a response to her own muttered words before she slid onto the bike. She found herself easily pointing out how often he talked too much, even after knowing him for only this short time. It was as though the man who approached her on the landing pads wasn't the same one as she found in the training room. She could continue to spend time mulling over the enigma that he was, but she, like he, had the coming duel to focus on. She would spend what little time she had left leading up to it wisely.
With eyes closed, Mariah suspended herself into somewhat of a meditative trance. Unsure as to where he was taking them, though, she needed to keep some awareness to her surroundings. The wind rushed past her furiously, and the sound of the bike's engine thrummed in her ears. Nonetheless, her mind fell at ease within the Force and opened herself up to listen to Its guidance for this upcoming battle. Taking several minutes at least to finally reach this point, she managed to center herself. She focused on this battle as though it would be like all the others -- an attempt on her life. The remembrance of its truer purpose revealed an otherwise elusive serenity. Her grip around his waist soon relaxed, the tension of her uncertainty starting to melt away. However, as she continued to open herself up to the energies around her, it was only a matter of time before a disturbance crept up in the recesses of her mind. An ominous feeling, although something too distant and minute to place.
It was with that realization, however, that her crimson eyes snapped open while Gavin continued to plunge them deeper into the underdeveloped terrain, suspended in perpetual twilight. The clouds in the sky had grown heavier as flashes of lighting lit up the clouds that swallowed them. He had said it was only a few miles away to their battleground. She may have been lost in her meditations for a time, but she didn't leave herself wholly unaware. Mariah's hands clenched tighter upon his waist as she studied the path he took them down.
A few miles away was a few miles ago. Where are you taking us?
Her familiar, murmurous voice crept into his mind, the first time that either had broken the silence of the trip. Within his mind, there was fullness to her voice, revealing an eloquence otherwise hidden within her typical susurrous tones. She revealed neither concern nor worry, but nonetheless demanding an explanation. Whether unwelcomed or otherwise, Mariah didn't just slip into his mind to ensure her words weren't carried off by the wind. His silence was uncharacteristic, something she had brushed off until now. With him underrating the distance, her hand felt forced, to slip into his mind, to feel out his intentions with her. She had come here expecting a friendly duel of sorts. She refused to allow a single spark of trust to be a possibility to her fall.
