So the best thing to do in such a situation is to put it out to the community and allow it to be dissected.
For those of you with short attention spans
TL;DR:
The idea is essentially Pokémon in JvS
(?!)
For those of you who want the gritty details
The thing that struck me is this
There's all sorts of creature stubs on Wookiee. Now, it's not unreasonable for us, as a fanon site, to take some liberties and fill in some details. Especially if we do it in a unified way.
Frankly this is probably something that the PGC should be in charge of but I have very little confidence of this being high priority for the Councilors nor do I have too much confidence in their ability to undertake a fairly massive project like this and do something with it in a fast timeframe. But crowdsourcing is a nice option
So that sounds a lot like making a Pokédex at least if you're a fan like me that's what it sounds like.
And then I thought, "why not?"
So enter this guy:
This is a Kwa. I need a Kwa because I need Infinity Gate-esque technology.
(He's blue, right? I can't tell if he's blue or purple as I happen to have le colorblind. Anyways, he should be blue.)
Yeah, you can't have Pokémon without Pokéballs and the instantaneous-wormhole-travel technology of the Infinity Gates is just what the doctor ordered.
The trick is, Mr. Kwa is going to have a giant ship with a bunch of stasis cells on it, and each stasis cell is going to have its own associated mini-Infinity Gate on it that connects to one other specific mini-Infinity Gate and that's going to be housed inside one of the Pokéballs
Those little black rings'll be what I'm referring to here. Those black rings in the sketch are the miniaturized Infinity Gate. Of course, the most important part is how to get a creature from outside the ball into the gate, and that's where the laser-aperture-looking-thing comes into play. That basically does focus a laser onto the target, only it doesn't behave like a laser: it behaves like a combination of a tractor beam-- to try to keep the target still-- and a wormhole projector. And that wormhole itself is an extension of the Infinity Gate system inside the ball. Whole thing's got power cells in the form of that insulating sheath in the diagram to run the mini-Infinity Gate. Use it to capture a target if the stasis cell the ball connects to is empty, or if it's full, the ball releases the contents of the stasis cell.
BAM, we have the essence of Pokémon technology solved.
The motivation of our Kwa friend is to assemble a complete record of every living thing and blah blah blah he's Professor Oak, guys. Are you a boy or a girl?
In short, go out, catch monsters, write up Pokédex blurbs if that's your style, battle 'em against other people if that's your style. I've got the framework and I can explain more mechanics if need be.
ANYWAYS
I have had this idea on the back burner for about a month now and I keep on not being able to decide whether it's good or bad.
There's a fair amount of cheesiness
And there's a mild amount of Deus-ex-Machina to get it to work
But I thought it could be a kind-of fun thing to do-- because honestly there isn't too much attention devoted to the many creatures of Star Wars on this site.
And honestly Pokémon is awesome in my book and mixing two of my favorite things would be PRETTY SWEET.
So I'm curious to see what the community at large thinks of the idea.
