"Hangars first then," she replied even though it was most likely that the majority of the ships housed here were fighters and up to medium-sized freighters. She had always felt most at home on larger ships: ones where the crew was upwards of ninety people, the ships that were basically small, self-contained cities with each individual playing a part in keeping its mechanical heart beating. The Admiral had a lot of resources at his command, but vessels like that weren't really designed for atmospheric landings. "Aferward, surprise me?" She looked up at him with a calm smile, enjoying what had turned into a sort of holiday.

With a slight nod, Z'har leads the way back out of Central Command. Soon the pair found themselves standing outside a door labeled 'Large Hanger 4 Overlook Access'. Stepping through the door, Z'har lead the way out onto a catwalk suspended high above a hanger.
Sitting on the deck below where a pair of Carrack-class light cruisers sitting side by side. One of which appeared to be undergoing a refit of some kind or another.
-Z'har This is one of five of the large hangers. Due to the No-Fly-Zone in effect around the Citadel, the ships are only launched during a major attack. Most of the systems on the ships are automated or droid controlled. Mostly they are to help out the automated fighters & the land based defenses.

Jade followed Z'har out onto the catwalk, not bothered by the height at all. There is always something about ships waiting in a hangar. It's like a group of beings are just holding their breaths and waiting for a call to action. It feels alive. Jade liked this. However, it was different after a long mission when pilots were landing at the same time and everything was being powered down. Then hangars seemed to be filled with an odd form of lonely sadness.
"I see. That cuts down on actual personnel casualties, and if you are controlling all of them I suppose the strategy is superb, but how do you compensate for the lack of instinctive judgment calls in the middle of a combat situation?" Towards the end of her run as a ship commander most of the systems on her vessel had been jury-rigged so that she could fly with a skeleton crew. They were always under-staffed, and her crew had had to improvise with ever more limited resources.

-Z'har In a way, the hulks resting below us could be considered my bodies just as easily as the form standing here. The fighters & other defenses on the other hand aren't under my direct control, instead being given general orders & then controlled by one of the rooms in Central Command.
Below, a large module that appeared to be an entire engine drive was slowly being maneuvered out of the ship that was being worked on. Off to one side, its replacement hung suspended, waiting to be fitting into the gap that would be left.

"I see. And how does that work if you fly all of them simultaneously? If it is just you in control does it spread out your concentration and bog you down with minute detail?" She inquired. Despite his change of form, Z'har still was one mind, and as such there had to be limitations somewhere along the line. Delegation of tactics was an important part of combat strategy.
She smiled, slipping her hand through his arm and looking up at him, "Well, if you're asking me, I prefer this form," she traced her fingertips along the line of his jaw lightly, "to those. And, I think you might as well..."

-Z'har I fly all of them, though it is roughly my limit. That is why some of the systems in the ships use droids instead of being automated. Additionally, entire systems have been stripped out of the ships in order to prevent distractions. They are more or less flying blocks with weapons & shields.
He pauses as she brush her fingers against his jaw, before pulling her into a light kiss.
-Z'har There are benefits to this form.

She smiled warmly, stretching up on tiptoe to reciprocate and snaking an arm around his waist to pull him closer. "Definite benefits, I'd think."
Theoretically that made sense. Several bulky ship systems existed necessarily to accommodate a living crew, so trimming down made things more streamlined. Technically he could afford to lose more 'cannon fodder' with this arrangement, but eventually it would cost.

-Z'har There are disadvantages as well. My sense of time is much slower than some of my others, & would not want to get in a fight with a body this weak. Finally, my senses aren't as sharp in many ways, due to having to disguise them as organic.
Z'har looks down at the massive ships resting below them.
-Z'har I'm afraid that none of the hangers inside the protective wall are what you would consider active. Mostly they are just holding & launching bays for the defensive force. Shall we carry on to your surprise?

Jade filed this information away while examining this HRD form that Z'har was currently inhabiting. The scientific part of her brain was already compiling the odds that she could win against this aspect of him in a fight. It did not look like he'd be winning Selaya back soon at any right, even if she was willing to place her old companion as stakes in a competition. Right now the predator was probably terrorizing the bird and rodent population of the once-peaceful gardens near the Academy back on Corellia. A glint flickered in Jade's eyes at the mental image that generated.
"Certainly." She wondered what he was referring to, but unlike earlier, this time she wasn't going to simply give him the upper hand by revealing the extent to which she was curious.

Noticing the glint of curiosity in her eye, Z'har gives a wicked little smile. If she didn't ask, he wouldn't share. Anyway, she would probably find out soon enough.
Leading back into the hallway they had come from, the pair of them made their way to another turbolift, for a very short ride further up. Before long, they found themselves in a busy hanger filled with speeders & speederbikes. Mounting one of the bikes, Z'har motions for Jade to climb on behind him.
-Z'har Care to go for a little ride?

Jade would not have admitted it, but she very much liked the way the Admiral smiled at her. The corners of her lips twitched as she smiled to herself on the turbolift. She almost appropriated a separate bike for herself, but in the end decided to let him have his way this time. Besides, he knew his way around this city, and she did not. She wouldn't know where they were going unless he was in front, and losing would have gone against the grain.
She hopped on behind him and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, momentarily leaning her cheek against his back before looking up and peering over his shoulder. "Under the circumstances," she embraced him gently, "I don't mind at all."

-Z'har Hold on as tight as you like.
This time is smile was hidden by the turn of his head. Not waiting for her reply, he guns the engine & shoots out into the open, clear air. Behind them was the monolithic, conical structure that made up the entirety of the Citadel. Stretched out before them was the wide empty courtyard with its bands & whorls of colour. descending rapidly from the exit of the hanger, some 15 metres above the surface, the bike settles into a steady clip roughly a meter above the smooth stone surface. Slowing down as they approach a large metal disk set flush with the ground, Z'har half turns to explain it.
-Z'har It is a gun well. If the Citadel is attacked, their rise up to provide anti-air support. During a ground invasion their are kept retracted deny the enemy cover. The wells are only attached to the main compound by a thin power line, so that enemies can't use them to get around the other defenses.
Speeding back up, the bike soon had made its way the rest of the kilometer to the Barrier Wall, passing many of the metal disks on the way. Pulling up to one of the Garrisons built into the wall, Z'har guides the bike into one of the hangers facing the Citadel. Leading the way through a minor tangle of narrow corridors & chock points, Z'har starts describing the wall as they make their way to the top of the wall.
-Z'har The wall is just over twelve & a half kilometers long, with one of these fortresses every kilometer along the wall. They are basically modified versions of the prefabricated garrisons used by the Galactic Empire. The Barrier wall is two hundred meters thick & a hundred meters tall. Each of the Fortresses supports a single Anti-orbital turbolaser, along with a shield generator to protect both the base & the turbolaser. Studded along both the interior & exterior walls are anti-air, anti-vehicle, & anti-personnel weapons in massive numbers. The wall is mostly covered by the shields of the Fortresses, as while the Citadel has its own shield, it doesn't stretch out all the way to the wall.
Though dwarfed by the structure contained within, the Barrier Wall was truly a massive structure, giving a commanding line of sight to the surrounding area, including a distance view of the city of Mondder itself.
-Z'har The only way into or out of the Citadel is through one of these fortresses. Anything trying to fly in is shot down, & the lower sections of the Wall itself are solid to prevent people from cutting their way in. It would take a truly impressive force to force the Citadel to use its final defense.

Jade briefly experimented with that 'as tight as you like' but as it elicited no obvious reaction from him she simply held on, listening and observing as he showed off the center of the business empire he had built. She was flattered by the level of detail he was providing as it clearly implied that he trusted her. She doubted that many visitors were given this extensive a tour of their surroundings. She was forced to admit that she'd prefer trying to break out of the city as opposed to leading an assault against it. It was impressive.
She half-leaned against the tall Zabrak on top of the wall, arms loosely folded in front of her as she admired the vista and skyline of Mondder. Then, something clicked, "One moment...you have not yet specified the nature of this 'final defense'?"

There was a definite smile on his face now, as he wrapped one arm around her waist. There was also a glimmer of pride at the sheer scope of the building's defenses.
-Z'har The final defense would be something taken as an absolute last resort. The Citadel would completely lock down & the main repulsors & drives would fire. It would rip the entire citadel from the ground into orbit, where it would escape into hyperspace. Though very few know it, the entire Citadel itself is a a seven kilometre spacecraft, only three of which extends above the surface.

"Erm---What?!" was Jade's shocked exclamation. She wasn't sure she believed what she had just heard. She twisted to look up at him and reached up to remove his visor since there wasn't anyone in their immediate vicinity. His dark eyes were always tricky to read. But she tried. An entire city built essentially as a spaceship? Some of the architecture made more sense with that idea in the background, but that was still a breathtaking concept. It reminded her of an old myth she'd once read. Though, that city didn't fly. It sank. And its name was Atlantis. She wondered if he was teasing her to see how much she would believe.

It was obvious from his expression that he wasn't joking, though he did appear quite pleased with the effectiveness of the surprise.
-Z'har Seven kilometres long, with a diameter of 2 kilometres at the widest point. During takeoff, much of the plaza would be shattered & then melted from the force of the engines. The drives are based more for speed, as the surprise of an enemy woln't last long once the craft gets going. The main difficultly would be in setting the thing back down, as it would require excavating the landing sight & building a new nesting cradle for it.

"Yes, I can see how that would pose certain complications." She smiled up at him archly, punctuating her remark with a wink that did nothing to dampen the glint of mischief sparkling in her eyes. "Soooo...Z'har, you have showed me your secrets. Aren't you concerned I might use them against you?" She quickly left him in no doubt about what kind of advantages she might take as the two of them were so close together at the moment. "Forgive me for pointing this out, but wouldn't such a 'ship' be at a great disadvantage in actual flight?"

-Z'har Despite your grip on the situation, I have no fears about that. As for the effectiveness of the ship in a fight. It wasn't really designed to fight. True, it has a fair number of emplacements useful against planetary craft. But, It was mainly design to be able to lift off & flee the system in the case of an attack that would be capable to destroying it. That & the umbrella shield it projects above it would spell doom to any ship trying to physically block the Citadel's launch.

The short woman currently standing very close to the Mandalorian Admiral smiled in a fashion that was nearly Sith-like, though she was not contemplating galaxy-wide domination. Her interests laid a bit closer to herself than that. No one who knew her history could accuse her of making a hasty decision in this matter. She had deliberated on it for well over a decade until the Force had thrown an opportunity in her way. And, when that happened, she quickly made use of it. "I know what you mean." She tilted her head to one side to look up at him better, "Maybe you should let me drive on the way back?" she taunted him merrily.

A slightly evil smile is all the warning the smaller jedi had before she is literally swept off her feet.
-Z'har Oh, how do you intend to drive if you can't even keep your feet on the ground? Maybe you should stay here after all. It would be a shame if you got hurt because you didn't have anyone watching your back.
