==Rapid Response Fleet SL== <<62PP; S4 Sector>>
Thaddeus 'Brick' D'Ordinii was in many respects a perfectly normal Zabrak. His light blond hair & brown eyes did nothing to set him apart from the masses of the galaxy. The fact that he kept his horns ground down to make it easier to fit in a helmet meant he could also pass for a human at more than a few paces. The only really unusual thing about him visually was his below average height of 157 centimeters.
He was also a clone of one of the most feared warlords of the previous generation. Though clone was perhaps not the best term for his creation. For one thing, no-one would mistake him for Z'har Dizen Or'dinii. Nor for that matter did he have anything more than a passing similarity with any of the other 'clones' that were part of the same batch as him. Not even gender was a sure match. The more common term within the Clan was genestock or, more informally, genie.
Operation Midnight had been a project started on Kamino nearly sixty year ago. The genetic code that was used for Operation Midnight had been that of Z'har himself. However, before any other modifications were made, the genetic mutation that shorted Z'har's natural life span was removed from the base template. This had a secondary unintended effect of removing Z'har's distinctive eye coloration as well. The next phase of Operation Midnight saw the base template modified into forty production templates, each designed to excel in a single aspect of tactical value. Finally, a database was gathered of secondary traits from mainline Zabraks, Humans & several Near-Human species. Later on additional traits from additional species had been added into the database. This meant that while certain traits (such as increased muscle density in the Line Trooper Template or greater hand-eye coordination in the Fighter Pilot Template) remained constant, the 'clones' were genetically diverse enough that they would be nearly impossible to target with a plague or disease without resorting to strains that targeted indiscriminately. The current range of possible traits mean that the genestock members of the clan were actually far more genetically diverse than the mainline branch of the Zabrak species.
Brick was one of the genestocks created from the Fighter Pilot Template. Specifically, he was from the second batch created. This meant he was a little over fifty, the prime of life for a Zabrak. It also meant that the file MandalMine Collective kept on him listed 'FPilTem-G2' directly underneath his name. Brick also knew that the personnel files were vitally important, as a new batch was created from each template every ten years. At least those templates that were still active.
Brick was a Wing Leader, official rank of O4. This meant that he had, if he counted his own fighter, a hundred forty-four starfighters under his direct command. With the exception of a few valuable locations that got their own dedicated fighter squadrons assigned to them, the vast, vast majority of starfighters were stationed on board the modified Lucrehulk Carriers of the Rapid Response Fleets. Each Lucrehulk was assigned two squadrons of starfighters, one to each hanger. The Lucrehulk then would wait at a central deployment point with a dozen or so others for anyone foolish enough to try to start trouble at a MMC station. There were several of these rally points scattered around each sector. Each squadron had three months of active duty, followed by a month of shore leave. Of course, active duty usually was not very active. Mostly it consisted of sitting around for three months practicing on flight simulators & playing various games (both in & out of the simulators) to pass the time. Every now & again, a RRF would be deployed to some station or another to scare off a pirate group or other collection of ships trying to mess around with a MMC station or base. Generally, the enemy ships in questions would break & run once the fighters start deploying, but occasionally they would stay to fight.
At that particular moment, Brick was lazily working his way through the newest issue of a holomag he liked, one dedicated to speeder-bike parts & modifications. Unfortunately, the article on a new type of thruster assembly would have to wait as an alarm began to sound through-out the ship. Within ten seconds the rumble of hyperspace filled the ship. Brick was always impressed by the reaction speed of the massive ships. He had asked around once, trying to figure out how they managed it. It turns out each ship in the RRF kept a few hyperspace plots already calculated & ready to load up. With the addition of keeping the ship oriented along the needed lines. This meant that the ship only had to make minor vector corrections before launching into hyperspace.
-Intercom Warning. All personnel to deployment stations. This is not a drill.
Despite the size of the Lucrehulk carriers, they carried very little in the way of offensive weapons. & most of the weapon stations they do have are point defense. In terms of fighting ability, they rely mainly on the fighters they carry. On the other hand, they do have two features that make them very useful in a fight. The first was nearly unbreakable shields, especially given the pirates & raiders they usually end up facing. The second useful feature was the massive array of extremely powerful communications gear. The broadcast arrays are perfectly able to cut through nearly any level of jamming to re-establish contact with Command. Due to this focus on starfighter abilities, the central core was seen as a pointless waste of resources, & the Lucrehulk Carriers consisted only of the outer ring structure. Nearly all of the MMC Lucrehulk designs lacked the central core.
Brick let out a small sigh as he stood up. Slipping on his helmet, Brick made his way out into the hanger. In order to maximize response times, the pilot’s recreation & common areas were situated immediately next to the hangers. This mean that it took Brick less than a minute to reach his fighter. A few moments after than & he was in the cockpit of his IRD-A running the start sequence & checking the status of the other fighters in his squadron of twelve.
-Brick Squadron Leaders, status report.
Squadron 4 Green. Squadron 11 Green. Squadron 2 Green. Squadron 7 Green. Squadron 5 Green. Squadron 8 Green. Squadron 9 Green. Squadron 3 Green. Squadron 10 Green. Squadron 12 Green. Squadron 6 Green.
-Brick Roger that, Drinks are on Squadron 6 tonight.
-Squadron 6 Leader Great, just try not to run into anything today Brick.
-Brick Only it you try not to get shot this time, Skeet.
-Skeet, Squadron 6 Leader Where is the fun in that?
-Brick Command, ETA?
A moment after the question was asked a calm female voice returned over the Comm. There was a slight pause as the controller pulled up his preferred call-sign.
-Command Copy that, Brick. I will be your Command Coordinator for this engagement. ETA is forty seconds. Engagement data is grade one. Target is confirmed local pirate faction, Light Force, Clear. Lethal force is authorized.
That made Brick smile. Grade one meant that command had perfect intel or nearly enough for him. With light force, the pirates would have converted freighters & fighters at most. The Clear designation meant that the enemy was not using any jamming gear. Operations where command could see the entire picture always turned out better than ones where everyone was trying to figure out the details. Moments later, the Lucrehulk shuddered its way back into real space.
-Command Your wing is authorized to launch.
-Brick Copy that. All Squadrons, the gate is open & the guns are free.
There was a chorus of Copy That, as the fighters lifted from the deck & made their way out into the black.
-Command Targeting data inbound.
As she was speaking, three red brackets appeared on his cockpit overlay. A moment later, additional data on the targets appeared. Two of the targets were marked UKF-1 & UKF-2 for starfighters of unknown make (most likely uglies), while the third was marked MF-1 for a medium freighter, an Action IV in this case.
-Command Brick, your target is the Action IV. Confirm target.
-Brick Action IV, target confirmed. Alright boys & girls, we get the Mother. I want a four-way pincer strike. Standard array.
The twelve squadrons split into four equal groups after receiving the orders. While the other wing was chasing down the fleeing uglies, Brick’s wing swung wide before attacking simultaneously from four directions. The returning fire from the converted freighter was panicked & did little against the small fighters attacking it. In a single pass the shields were torn down, allowing the wave of torpedoes that followed to blow the ship into four large chunks & a minor cloud of smaller fragments.
As the fighters were heading back toward the hanger, Brick noticed a read-out on his display turn from green to yellow.
-Brick Skeet, status report.
-Skeet Nothing serious, one of those shots got a little too close & I’m bleeding coolant. I'll be able to make it back to the hanger, no problem.
-Brick You must really enjoy getting shot. I swear it happens on every milk run we make.
-Skeet It reminds be of being with my girl, only she tends to throw pans instead of blaster bolts.
There was a general round of chuckling as the fighters landed once more in the hanger.

==Power of the Imperium SL== <<61PP; S4 Sector>>
Omar was part of Starfire Security's Intelligence Branch. Specifically, she was part of the Signal & Communication Defense Corps. All told, the S&CD Corps was extremely small despite its level of importance. The vast majority of the members of the Corps was located at a single facility, code named Beacon. Like several other important facilities, Beacon was a space station well off the beaten path. Much of Beacon was devoted to large banks of computer & databanks. Officially, the S&CD Corps job was to continually update & change the program used to keep all MandalMine Collective assets in contact. The usefulness of a system that didn't use a coding system used anywhere else was that it was incredibly difficult to hack into for nearly anyone. The down side was that normal files couldn't be directly read by the system, meaning that it was fairly useless for communicating with outside computer systems.
Of course that was just her official job description. Her actual job was a fair bit more boring. Dragging herself out of her bunk she stretched & slipped into her armor. Unlike the armor of every other member of Clan D'Ordinii, the S&CD Corps didn't have the tiny beacon that let the sensors & security systems on the various Clan holdings track the wearer. Keying open the door to her quarters, Omar snagged her belt off the rack beside the door & strapped it on. The weight of the disruptor hanging from the belt was comfortable & familiar. After reaching her station & spending a few minutes chatting with the previous shift, Omar sat down & pulled out her datapad. She was about halfway through her list of various books & shows she had lined up on datacards, but doubted the supply shuttle would let her get all the way through her list before she got the next chunk of requested media.
Her post was not exactly the most interesting of places. In fact, it was very, very boring. It was a room with bare metal bulkheads & a single chair. The only interesting feature was a massive humming box that took up nearly half of the room. The box was one of many, many computers that was currently running a program. The S&CD Corps job wasn't to write the Operating System used by the Clan D'Ordinii. Its job was to destroy the computers if they went rogue.
Omar had actually seen the coding used in the computers on Beacon. It was hundreds of times more complex than anything else Omar had ever seen. From rumors she had heard, the program had been written by CEO's daughter Aya herself, which given other rumors about Aya's skill with computers Omar didn't really doubt. Her personal job was rather simple. If the station alarm ever went off, her job was to reduce the computer to melted & fused scrap before checking that the other stations had also been destroyed. The alarm post was a much more involved job & was rotated through the staff on the station. Beacon was the only Clan holding that didn't have its security system linked to the others. It was a step down, but the security system was completely isolated, as was every other system on the station. Beacon actually had less automation that most private sector ships did. Regardless of the possibility of needing to shoot a computer, Omar settled into to enjoy a story about wizards going to school.

The private yacht looked like any of the other hundred or so at this particular private starport. It was not, itself, anything special. Expensive, yes, but not special. Its owner, a member of the Espos, on the other hand was special. He was in may ways a good & honest person. He was also completely against the bribing & blackmail at the higher levels of the CSA power structure. Such bribes were, of course, illegal. Not that stopped the people that made use of such routes. He had manage to expose at least three of the Clan's targets, removing them from their position. Due mainly to good planning & a little fortune, he had not managed to discover the source of the bribes.
On a regularly scheduled maintenance run for the yacht, one of the technicians quietly jacked a datalink into the ship's main computer. With no internal memory, the device was effectively a short range comlink for data bursts only. The process took all of fifteen seconds while the technician finished his regular assignment. Once done, the device was slipped back into a pocket & the worker continued with his list. None of the cameras had a view of the jack while the technician was working. It was amazing the things that got done with a bribe in the right place.
The program loaded into the computer wasn't exceptionally complex, but it was enough for the job. Quickly breaking through the ship's protective software, it took over the computer system. It began running facial recognition checks against everyone in the ship before the technician even finished his rounds.
Three days later, the owner of the ship boarded. On seeing his face over the ship's internal cameras, a digital switch flipped. Now it was only waiting for one more condition to activate. It didn't happen, the ship flew around a little, but the second condition wasn't met before the target left the ship. Losing the lock, the program went back to passive. Eventually, the target boarded the ship again. Clearing the atmosphere, the yacht headed for deep space.
Finally the second switch was tripped by the navicomputer activating. A half second before the ship jumped to hyperspace, the program shifted the coordinates a few degrees in a random direction. Two seconds after the ship jumped into hyperspace, all the controls locked out. Half a second after that, every compartment door & airlock cycled fully open, venting the atmosphere into the chaos of hyperspace. Half a second later, the shields cut off, bathing the entire ship in the deadly radiation surrounding the ship. The radiation managed to effectively destroy any electronics on the ship. Two seconds after the shields failed, the sublight engines overloaded & tore the back half of the ship apart. When the drifting hulk that had been a yacht collided with a mass shadow nearly three hours later, there was no one to notice.
The Espo member & the three others traveling with him were reported missing after failing to arrive to a scheduled meeting with locals on a nearby planet. All four would be later presumed dead in a hyperspace accident. After all, Hyperspace was still a dangerous place.

==Operatives SL== <<69 PP; S4 Sector>>
"Clear. Begin again." The voice was the only thing in the darkness. There was no flicker light. No wisp smell. No feather of touch. It was as if the voice was the only thing in existence. Then a bright searing light.
Guinevere did not consider herself a weak person. When faced with a task she would complete it & move on, never once loosing a night of sleep over what should have been done or what had been done. She was aware that her superiors considered her & her fellow 'trainers' in the Operative Program evil, even if a necessary one. Guinevere thought of that as just one more way she wasn't weak. Evil was just another meaningless word people tended to throw around when they had nothing better to do.
As the blast shields around the cameras lowered, she returned to the task at hand. The room under surveillance wasn't large, barely three meters to a side. It was also completely bare except what looked like some sort of altar. An altar that was heavily coated with a fine ash that was quickly being whisked down into vacuum tubes on the surface. A moment later a droid carried in another of the specimens. It was a creature, humanoid but different enough not to be human. The grey skin, backwards knees & exposed teeth made sure no-one would make that mistake. It was also completely limp. It was pumped to its oversized teeth full of a wonderful cocktail of drugs that completely paralyzed it, blinded every sense but sound & made the creature incredibly vulnerable to suggestion. The fact that it was also a freshly grown clone not more than two minutes out of its vat was one extra bonus.
Guinevere was rather proud of her cocktail, as she thought of it, as she had improved the serum from a 80% washout rate to a 40% washout rate. Once the clone was settled in Guinevere switched on the recording of the programming that would form the center of the clone's mind. That specific room was just one of ten she was currently monitoring. If any of the creatures showed brainwave patterns indicating that they weren't accepting the programming, she would flip a switch. The contents of the room would then be incinerated, once she had cleared the room, the next one would be brought in.
Another of her subjects was nearly ready to be shipped off to be trained in how to use the armor & weapons that would bring terror to the enemies of D'Ordinii. One more Operative ready to go out & obey without question, doubt or hesitation. It really was a shame that the cocktail didn't work on other species, Guinevere couldn't help but wonder what she could do with a wookiee.

==Making War SL== <<106 PP; S4 Sector>>
Chief Petty Officer (P8) Felidenz Clagam was on board the Jehavey'ir-type assault ship, JEH-37829 "Eidothea", which was assigned to a customs & interdiction role for its current deployment. In some ways watching for contraband for the Infinite Imperium was fairly easy. In other ways it was extremely vexing.
The main reason being that very, very few things were banned outright in the Imperium. Sure, there were a couple of the more dangerous substances & biological material, mostly though anyone could carry anything they had a permit to have. Generally, everything in the Imperium fell into one of three categories.
General Materials was the largest category. It covered all the day to day basic things that kept both the Imperium at large & the personal lives of the populace running smoothly. Everything from building materials, food stock, consumer goods, low end weaponry, medical supplies, recreational gear & substances could be owned by pretty much anyone & carried in bulk by anyone with a transport certification.
Restricted Materials were the things that your average person generally would not need to ever have in the course of their lives. Most of the things in that category were things like heavy weaponry, infectious agents, & any number of harmful chemicals & other substances. Of course, people could still own these things as long as they had the proper certification to show they knew how to handle it safely. A few of the things however also required that the person in question could show a reasonable need for the thing in question before they could get the certification. The requirements to be allow to transport it were somewhat more demanding, but that was because these weren't things that should fall into the wrong hands.
Illegal Materials was the final & very small category. It took a great amount of danger implied for anything to be outright banned in the Imperium. Even something like Alpha Red, while very heavily restricted, wasn't banned outright.
This is what made his job so difficult at times. For most ships it was a fairly straightforward task of making sure the captain & a minimum amount of the secondary crew were certified to handle what was in the cargo hold & that everything that was aboard was properly logged. In a few cases though, it was a nightmare & a half to figure out what belonged to who & making sure everyone had the right certifications. Of course, the certification part was simple, a list of the crew was punched into the computers of the Eidothea & the Clan Holonet pulled up full certification lists for everyone listed. That was officially required, but for the most part it was a formality as the certification pips were nearly impossible to fake. More than a few captains, especially those that weren't citizens of the Imperium, managed to lose some of their pips over the years. Citizens on the other hand usually got them installed on their armor, so a lot fewer of those pips got lost. She did however remember one particularly klutzy captain that had managed to dent their armor so often that they carried their pips around in a small pouch, just because of how many times that they had been knocked loose.
The other big part of the job was hunting down pirates. For most raiders, the Jehavey'ir would bring plenty firepower to bear. However, the Imperium was a very strong believer in using drones for force multiplication. Nearly every crewed ship had at least one of the automated Crusader-class corvettes shadowing along with it. While the design for the Imperial Crusaders had been striped of the life support & other secondary systems needed to support a crew, it had been provided a fairly respectable cryogenics bays. That little feature had saved a number of lives when the drone ships had been forced to function as lifeboats for the crews of the ships they had been following.
Nearer to the heart of the Imperium, they got a lot fewer raiders & pirates, but out on the edge of both the Imperium & the galaxy itself, was a thriving pirate region. Many systems out this far were too far apart or too limited to be worth the effort to colonize in force. However, there were colonies out here that traded back & forth with each other & the Imperium itself. The combination of steady if low volume trade & the multitude of little rocks to hide under made it rather attractive to outlaws. In fact it was a rare week that the Eidothea didn't vaporize at least one fighter. They didn't bother with live capture after all, the Imperium had issued a standing 'Wanted Dead' warrant on for pirates.

==Socii SL== <<106 PP; R3 Sector>>
Barnheimr was not exactly the heart of civilization. Any civilization at all. True, it was fairly deep in Infinite Imperium territory, at least cartographically. It was one of the multitude of independent Socii Systems west of the Corporate Sector. Like most Socii Systems, the number of actual citizens in the system was extremely low. For the moment only CS-2910 Flaming Star was the only outpost in the system.
Lina Baciu, the governor of Flaming Star, had kept the outpost in system while the transfer to the new Core Ship design was completed. The previous Flaming Star was slowly being stripped of everything that could be pulled out. Once they were finished picking over it for spares, the remainder would fly under its own power to one of the nearby mobile spaceyards to complete the process.
The Flaming Star only had a population of a thousand, only a sixtieth of the possible the Core Ship could hold. Of course over half the population was down on the surface of the planet at any given time. She didn't really have to worry about them as, except a few minor notes, the local authorities couldn't touch them. One of the benefits of being a Citizen on a Socii planet. That & being exempt from pretty much all individual taxes. Of course, if they did someone locally, they could be arrested & held until they could be handed off to the Imperium. They just couldn't be punished locally.
Of course, the benefits had a cost. Most were fairly easy to pay. The II would occasionally post polls. Maybe once a month or so. Everyone was required to reply to the core polls, but for those that want to, there were always additional polls that could be taken. The side polls were even a good way to earn small sums of money. While it wasn't required, it was expected that Citizens would have a job somewhere in the Imperium structure. The positions paid well enough that most people did. While they didn't have to pay the individual taxes that the Helots did, Citizens were required to pay a flat defense fee each year.
Bartholmew Stahley was a Helot. Or at least that is what the Imperium called people like him. On Barnheimr They had little say in the workings of the Imperium. Not that it really mattered. From a personal standpoint, the only thing that changed was a slight tax hike. A few years ago he had taken the placement test to apply for becoming an Imperium Citizen. Now he was working through the last few years in the Auxilia position. He had tested rather highly on clerical skills, so much of his work was effectively data crunching. Until he finished his term in the Auxilia, he wouldn't be able to vote in the polls. He also could build up some authority, but the upper ranks would be closed until he fully joined.
Yves Schroeder was the queen of Barnheimr. The planet had a population of just under ten million & was, for the most part, self supporting. Of course, the system was also under the thrall of the Infinite Imperium. It wasn't all bad though. The Imperium was nicer than most of the possible warlords that could have claimed them. At least the Imperium allowed them to continue handling their internal business without meddling. At least too much. Sure there was the taxes that had to be paid to the Imperium, but that had its benefits as well. For one, the system didn't have to worry about huge fleets invading. They still had to keep a small force on hand to defend against pirates & other small scale attackers, but it was much more manageable then their previously required defenses.
There were a couple more special requirements though. The first what that any Imperium Citizen was free to come & go as they desired. This also extended to anyone the Imperium decided to grant free passage to. Barring them doing something horrible. In which case they could be held, but had to be handed over to the Imperium for trial & possible punishment. There hadn't been any issue with them on her world, but she had heard that Citizens that abused their freedoms tended to get made an example of by the Imperium. While she wasn't required to grant passage to members of other Socii systems, it was somewhat expected. The next issue was that anything foreign in nature was dealt with by the Imperium. Even trade deals with other nearby Socii systems required going through the Imperium first. The last detail was that the Imperium could draft anyone or any resource in the case of emergencies, including military units. Of course that was with the understanding that they would be returned. Or if they had been lost in the emergency, the appropriate parties would be fully compensated.

==Honor SL== <<71 PP; S4 Sector>>
Charles Donahall, third High General was waiting patiently for the rest of his fellow officers. Due to tradition, the second to arrive to the meeting was the one that had to keep everything moving smoothly. Usually, Charles had better timing, but this time he had missed being third by a total of barely half a minute. He was somewhat more heavy-set that most of the Clan, but stress & a strong sweet tooth had combined to work against him there.
The nine beings that would be meeting were technically the nine most powerful figures in the Clan. On the record, each of them reported to one of three higher positions. The High Lords reported to the Head of the Clan, the High Admirals reported to the Head of Starfire Security, & the High Generals reported to the Head of MandalMine Collective. In practice, the nine were more or less left to run things as they saw fit. Of course the command positions were regularly rotated through the various eligible O8s to ensure a well trained pool of replacements & to prevent the heavy burden of command from grinding down any one figure, making the O9 rank the only 'temporary' command rank, Being assigned to the group even once meant access to a large list of secrets that the lower ranks were not even aware of the existence of. It also came with the permanent assignment of one of the red armored Praetorians to hover right over the shoulder of the officer. Officially, it was for the officer's protection. Unofficially, The SS Operatives' position outside the normal chain of command lent them a certain foreign air to remind the officer in question that any secrets learned as an O9 were to stay a secret.
Of course only one other person was physically present in the same room with him. The meetings were held quarterly & the nine people required to attend each one where rarely all in the same place at the same time. The rest where physically well removed from the room, but participating via holographic communications over the Clan's secure private HoloNet. As the last figure flickered into being, Charles quietly cleared his throat. The other eight figures quickly quieted, giving him the floor.
-Charles, 3rd HG Right, I might as well get the ball rolling. We will cover the highlights first & then move on to details. As normal. The seventh generation from the training camps looks to be progressing through the initial stages well. Local recruitment is also up at least twenty percent in fourteen sectors, mostly along the Perlemain. There have been smaller rises in at least another seventy sectors. The rising numbers have slowed the integration process slightly though.
His points are punctuated by occasional glances at the data-feed in his HUD. The news was mostly good as far as Charles was concerned. It was an improvement in nearly half of the hundred & sixty operational sectors the Clan had divided the galaxy up into. Of course, as the 3rd High General he was a little biased as his job was to recruit or grow & then train the manpower that the Clan needed to keep right on growing.
The next figure to take up the report was a whip thin & taller-than-average female with tightly braided purple hair & a grey, nearly scaly skin. Abigail Copperwall, the Second High General. The current head of Research & Development for the Clan. Her voice was clipped & dry as she didn't even bother to glance at her data-feed.
-Abigail, 2nd HG No major breakthroughs to report. Project Ballast & Project Firebrand have both been dropped due to ongoing costs & lack of positive reports.
It seemed as if the Generals wanted to get things out of the way first, as the next to report was the First High General, Alexander Quell. He was rather on the smaller side &, except for a neatly pair of trimmed horns, he looked completely like a human. A boring human as that, with his dull brown eyes & sandy blonde hair. He was also the one in charge of Logistics, supplying every fleet, base & colony in the Clan, as well as several other operations.
-Alexander, 1st HG Things have mostly been quiet. However, I've noticed a steady increase in raids on our shipping in the southern sectors. There has been a nearly thirty five percent rise in ship damages from the region. Fourteen ships have been lost completely & at least two entire crews are still missing & unaccounted for. El probably has a better grasp of the reasons than I do.
A woman who looked like she might be someone's beloved granny nodded from down the table. Elizabeth Talus, Second High Admiral was the spymaster of the group & in charge of the various Intelligence & Counter-Intelligence operations of the Clan.
-Elizabeth, 2nd HA Indeed, it looks like the current main faction claiming to be the Empire is showing heavy signs of political instability. It would seem that they made the standard Imperial mistake of grabbing more than they could control. Some systems have been breaking off, as well as various military defections & a general increase in piracy to boot. That is most likely the cause of your missing ships, Alex. Most everything else is ticking along steadily.
The next man to speak looked like he sat on a sharp spike at roughly the same time as biting a lemon. Unfortunately that was nearly always the expression on the face of Gavin Doil, Second High Lord & current head of the Diplomatic parts of the Clan. He was also the only other person physically in the room with Charles. Other than their ever present guards.
-Gavin, 2nd HL No change to report in the ongoing attempts to create official channels to the Republic & the Empire.
Lana Grell, Third High Admiral was the person in charge of making sure that the constantly expanding Clan had the people it needed where it needed them. Her steel grey hair was cut short enough that only a generous person would consider it barely more than bald. The twinkle in her eyes, however, betrayed a rapier wit that even the constant personnel shortage couldn't dull.
-Lana, 3rd HA We are still nearly twelve percent below the numbers I'd like to see. As it is I have had to continue to fill out the lower levels of the hierarchy with foreign workers & free lance operatives. I'm expecting that number to grow to between fifteen & twenty percent if the present expansion push continues before Charles can produce his next batch.
The bulky man beside her was Neville Highland, First High Admiral & in charge of the strategic command of the military forces of the Clan. He waved in a wordless dismissal of his report, but a pointed look from Charles, made him sigh & give the verbal report required for the record.
Neville, 1st HA People have been shot, fighting continues, & so forth.
It wasn't technically the proper way to do it, but Charles knew there wasn't anything pressing in Neville's field. That & the man was good enough as a strategist to excuse his failure to meet even the group's informal standard.
James Hallis, Third High Lord was the chief medical member of the Clan, & the one that handled the running of the various medical companies & capabilities the Clan had.
-James, 3rd HL We've had several minor disease outbreaks again. I've manage to contain all of them to date with minimal causalities. Thanks in large part to the rapid response time granted by our security systems. I will once again raise the point that in my professional opinion the Clan seems far less resistant to disease vectors than most galactic population samples. One major help is the fact that most of the Clan seems content to remain inside their suits for the most part, but I'd like to request another funding increase for possible cure research.
Fernir Otin, First High Lord was the man in charge of both the general budget & the Clan functions centering around general income. He also happened to take a particular, if odd, pride in the small pair of antique eye glasses that he wore continuously. Even going so far as to forgo wearing his helmet most of the time.
-Fernir, 1st HL That is the third funding increase you have asked for in the last three quarters. Anyway, we are showing a net balance or net gain in nearly all of our sectors again this quarter. Only sectors ... thirty six & one twenty nine showed significant losses.
After giving everyone a moment to process the various reports, Charles got the group started on dealing with the more detailed reports. It wouldn't take more than a few hours as most of the figures at the table made regular contact with the others beyond the requirements of the quarterly 'official' meetings. Which meant that much of the time was actually spend with several minor conversations going on simultaneously.

==Power of the Imperium SL== <<88PP; S3 Sector>>
Tomak was somewhat bored. Not for lack of things to do mind you, but for the sheer repetition of his job. Which was how he liked it. When he was bored his mind would wander to random subjects. There wasn't any subject in particular that occupied him, instead he would just think about whatever popped into his mind. The nice thing was that he would occasionally write down his ideas if they seemed good, & the Clan had even paid him for a couple of them that looked promising.
Tomak's actual job was mostly directing drones & making sure they didn't lock up or go on a rampage. With true droids it wouldn't have been a problem, but the much more limited drones tended to glitch out if left alone too long. The drones were currently putting together a city. When it was finished, the heart of the city would be the massive step sided crater that was being dug out. The stone, soil & other rubble was being used as the raw materials to make the permacrete that would be the bones of more or less the entire city. To the north would be the industrial areas of the city. He was personally working on the residential areas that would form the eastern edge of the city. To the south, area was being cleared for recreational areas & parks. Across the gaping pit, work was well underway on the Starport. On the same side as the starport, a massive rail station was being constructed to connect with the other cities in progress around the world. For in-city travel, the monorail had already been completed & was running constantly with both resources & people. It wouldn't be too much longer before the nearby river would be diverted to fill in the pit & turn it to a beautiful lake. After that it would just be a case of giving the greenery time to grow as the planet's population shifted to the new cities.
Prometheus Industrial was the only company owned by MandalMine Collective allowed to run in the red. In fact, in the time since it had been bought & re-purposed, Prometheus Industrial had never turned a profit in a single quarterly report. The reason for that was simple, Prometheus Industrial's primary goal was contacting with pre-space flight civilizations & slowly bringing them up to galactic standards, while maintaining as much of the local culture as possible. Secondary mission goals were to keep the cultures from becoming reliant on the Clan, & hopefully getting the entire species to join the Clan once they were developed enough. The end result was to either directly bolster the Clan's population or failing that, have a stable culture that is on friendly terms with the Clan.
To date none of the contacted cultures had reached galactic standard. There were several reasons for that annoying lack. The first was that the tech progression had to be done slowly in order to avoid destroying the culture outright. The first few cultures had learned that the hard way. Three civilizations, one stone age, one industrial level & one with a single small research/colony outpost on its primary moon, ended up getting a ten year program to bring their technology level up to standard only to quickly obliterate themselves. Only one managed to do so in such a way that left survivors.
The current program was much slower in its timetables. The company also kept a much closer eye on the cultures in order to prevent another world ending mistake. The world he was working on, & had been working on for the last ten years was one that had only just managed reliable metal working when the program began. If all went well, the planet would join galactic standard in another two or three generations. Prometheus also had several ways of keeping cultures in line. For one, the company refused to deal with any local group that relied on violence to solve all their problems. Though the company did encourage groups to be able to defend themselves. The company also sold services at slightly more than it would be available from a local source. This meant that if the culture relied too heavily on the company, there would be fewer locals doing it & the company's prices would start to sharply rise, feeding a rise in more local competition. Even then Prometheus was careful to only send out goods that were only on par with local goods.
Tomak was roused from his musing about his employers by the drones finishing up the building. Checking to make sure he had all his workers & their tools collected, he started loading them back on their transport, the surveyor would be out sometime later to check the building. One of the sold incomes the company had was the rent that the locals would pay to live in the designed cities. It was the only exception to the competition rule, but it was permitted as focusing the populations in Clan cities allowed them to be monitored much more closely.

==Making War SL== <<106PP; S3 Sector>>
Anoushiravan Nargolwala was a flame keeper. It wasn't a very common religion in the clan, but then again, religion in general wasn't that common in the Imperium. Of course it did give him a measure of satisfaction with certain jobs. This particular one was a real joy. The GR-75 ship hull was extremely common in the Imperium & was used for most general purpose tasks needing a smaller frame than the massive Lucrehulks that were used for bigger jobs. They could also be switched from task to task much easier.
In the distance from his own sphere of labor the Keldabe-class battleship, 'KEL-5443 Unexpected Present', waited like a mother hen over a clutch of smaller ships. The Keldabes were fairly rare & had the second highest crew requirements of any ship maintained in the Imperium. Floating along with it were four of the completely drone controlled Crusader-class corvette. None of the corvettes had names, just numbers, As they lacked an implanted ancestor that some ships were starting to boast. The remainder of the ad-hoc fleet was a cluster of the already switched out GR-75s.
The drone cargo hulls were drifting in from all directions, gathered here at the need of the Imperium. A single deepdock was waiting for them as they arrived. The vast majority were fitted with the cargo modules that they most often made use of. The next largest portion were those fitted with passenger modules. The rest were a smattering of the various other modules commonly used. Senor rigs from exploration duties, Diplomatic pods from negotiation teams, even a tractor beam rig for gathering asteroids for mining. The process was extremely streamlined, the hull would park, the current module would be unhooked & pulled free, The replacement module would be slotted into place on the guiding beams & hooked into place. It was a process that under normal situations took about three hours. A rush job could be done in half that, but would risk damage to the modules & the hulls. It wasn't like the pirate base was going to be going anywhere in the mean time.
It would be a tough nut to crack, so the GR-75s were being fitted with a mix of three modules. Seventy-five percent of the hulls were being fitted with energy shield modules. Each of these would be as powerful as could be found on emplaced over individual cities or military compounds. Far in excess of what one would expect on a ship. But then again, they could only point directly ahead of the hull. A layered onion of these shields would get the task force through the heavy defenses of the pirates. The next 15 percent were being fitted with Ion cannons. Again these were the equal of something you would normally only find mounted on a planet, like the V-150 used in older days by the rebels. Not the most powerful thing on the market, but powerful enough to disable pirate emplacements long enough for the final set to destroy. The rest were being hooked up to megamasers. Equal in size to the ion cannons, the megamaser tech was a nice chiss addition to the Imperium arsenal. With the ion cannons battering down shields & disabling weapon platforms, the megamasers would gut the pirate base with little resistance.
It was always a good day when his work would see something, somewhere burn. Always a good day indeed.

==Socii Fleet SL== <<107 PP, R4 Sector>>
Yanch Alnozhurz was a shipmaster. The role was not the most prestigious one that could be had, but it was an important one. For the most part Socii Systems maintained navies that were made up solely of smaller craft. Craft more suited to warding off local thugs & the occasional pirate raid.
A few Socii Systems, however, had proven themselves exceptionally loyal to the Imperium. These were fertile grounds for recruitment. In addition to the normal recruitment that went on, the populations of such planets were recruited to help crew larger warships to help bulk out the Imperium's navy.
As these ships were not equipped with all the fancy technology that made true Imperium ships so light on crew. They did, however, have a large number of advancements. These required the presence of at least one Citizen, though more often there were two or three on board to handle the duty in shifts. Since there was need for that many citizens on board, these craft were often of the larger displacement. That made the overall impact of the citizen crew much lower.
The KAN-S49, Shield Bearer, was one such ship. The Kandosii-type dreadnaught sailed with a crew of just under a thousand helots & three shipmasters. Yanch watched the goings on of the bridge from his command throne. For the most part he had little that he needed to do. The ship was more or less run by the Helot crew, requiring only minimal input from the shipmasters.
The quiet hum of day to day activity filled the bridge. The uniforms of the Helots seated at various terminals & walking between groups of consoles bore a strong memory of those worn by Palpatine's First Empire. The iconography was a world removed & the cut was somewhat different. The rank icons & symbols were the same as those in use by the Imperium's regular military. Instead of overlays on armor, however, they were small holoprojections sewn into the cloth of their uniforms. Of course, life on a combat starship could be extremely hazardous, even to a nation as defensively based as the Imperium. Each uniform also had woven into a small personal shield that would automatically activate if it sensed a pressure drop. It would function as a personal bubble of life support. It wasn't flawless, but it would last long enough for the crew to be rescued.
Then again, this particular ship wasn't likely to be in combat anytime soon. The outer reaches were a good place for maneuvers, but offered little in the way of active threats. Especially with the sudden outbreak of peace between the First Order & the Galactic Alliance. The Shield Bearer was in formation with nearly a dozen other ships of the same class, nearly half of them were other Socii Fleet Ships.

She laid peacefully all illusions of Boland as a sinister monster set to cut her to pieces and fry the Raven like an anorexic turkey gone. She floated on a cloud with peaceful easy feelings surrounding her and all Dark corners that awaited her in the waking world vanquished for a brief glorious time. In this state, she rested. Paradoxically Boland suddenly felt a sharp tingle in his arm but it passed quickly and no heart attack followed. Now piloting the ship felt the weight of a world – a dense world at that – on his shoulders. He now had not only himself but now also the girl, and that buzzard she kept to worry about. He wrestled with the strange comfort that is responsibility for a fleeting moment wishing for the peace on finds in the drunken explosive barroom scene. Somehow he knew that this path would be far more dangerous. The bird sat watching. The eternal watcher. That was what he had done forever. If only one could tap his mind and release from it the tales untold…. They carried ongoing nowhere fast helplessly hoping to find somewhere... anywhere

== Chistoria ==
After several weeks of repairs, The Saurian Deliverance had finally been made space worthy once more. Allowing Titus to take it and the Praetorians to Chistoria, in hopes of seeking the aide of their former home world in the coming war. If they could not garner the full support of the government, he would do what he could to bring any willing to support them.
The blue-white hues of hyperspace gave way to reveal the star spotted darkness of the void that surrounded Chistoria. Titus smiled as he looked upon his home world once more. A sight he never thought he’d ever see again after Kashyyyk

Garrick didn’t like this. Not at all. This strike was a bad idea. As he sat on his command chair, on the bridge of the Crusader, waiting for the moment that they could come out of hyperspace and get this over with. This was apparently all part of some grand plan the Emperor had for the endgame to bring down the Galactic Alliance. Some sort of strike to cripple the Alliance war machine further. It was a bad move in his opinion, their reasources could be better directed to attacking a frontline target, or perhaps some sort of manufacturing center. Not some backwater world to subjugate some aliens. Orders were orders, though, and he would carry them out to the T even if he didn’t like them. He had tried voicing his complaints, but his direct superior simply waved his hand, and told him to go. Idiot. This was a job for a single Light Cruiser, or maybe a Star Destroyer, not a fleet that could be devoted for an important strike. These were the thoughts that crossed his mind as a single crewman, a lieutenant, informed him that they would be arriving soon. Good. They could finally get this done with. Straightening his collar a bit, he stood from the chair and walked to the forward viewports. Staring out into the blue tunnel before him.
Though the Admiral considered this a low-level strike, that posed little to no risk, he knew better than to take stupid chances by not being prepared. So, when the ships jumped into the system, they had assumed the Admiral’s Kappai Attack Strategy, and the crews of the various vessels were at battle stations, ready to fire. And the moment he jumped into the system, he thanked his stars that he had the foresight to plan ahead. Unlike some commanders. For laid out before him was a collection of warships, evidently belonging to the New Republic. Immediately, fighter pilots, who had been sitting in their cockpits, recieved the go ahead to launch. A massive swarm of TIE Defenders and TIE Avengers exited the hangar of the ships, taking up their positions. Reinforcing the forward line, where the frigates and corvettes were located in a V shape, with the tip facing the enemy being the Procursator-Class Star Destroyer, which was leading the charge, were a fourth of the launched fighters. Then, in the middle, where the heavy cruisers were arranged in a V formation, half of the launched fighters. And finally, around the Crusader itself, the remaining fourth of the launched fighters. However, only half of the fleet’s total fighters had been launched. The rest were being held back in reserve for when they were needed. Garrick quickly instructed his communications officer to put him on all frequencies.
This is Admiral Garrick Needa of the First Order. I have orders to annihilate all resistance to my objective. Surrender now, and I will allow you to live. Failure to do so within the next minute will result in your destruction.
As he did this, however, he was analyzing the battle. There were three Nebula-Class Star Destroyers, and they would need to be the primary targets, followed by the support ships. He spoke quietly to the gunnery crew.
“Prepare to fire on my mark... focus on the nearest Nebula Class. Interdictors, activate your gravity wells...”

== Chistoria ==
Legate Africanus was standing aboard the bridge of the Argento, when the First Order fleet exited hyperspace and started making their charge toward the world. He was already issuing rapid commands, the starfighters deploying moments later, as the planets defence systems started to take aim at the fleet. Africanus opened a line back to the one that had identified himself as Admiral Garrick Needa Mr Needa, the Saurian Coalition does not recognize the terrorist group calling itself the First Order as a sovereign Government. Remove your ships from Chistoria's space, or be annihilated. This is your only warning... With that, A shot was fired from the third Nebula, it's arc taking it across the bow of the Procursator-class Star Destroyer's bow. A warning shot to the Imperials. Though, Africanus was fairly certain that the First Order had no intention of pulling out so quickly
Titus watched from the Saurian Deliverance as the First Order fleet appeared from hyperspace and charged the defence fleet. He angled the freighter down toward the surface, pushing the engines to their max as he angled to get within the safety of Chistoria's atmosphere, before heading for the Capital. There, he might be of some use. Either in convincing the Council to call for aide from the Galactic Alliance, or begin evacuating civilians to safety on allied worlds

“I’m afraid I cannot do that, “Scipio Africanus”. And I’m afraid your little insurgency ends today. You have committed an act of aggression against my fleet.” With that, Garrick closed comms with the Nebula, and waited until all of the Nebulas was within range of the entire fleet. The massive, Star Destroyer grey hulls of the ships had the sun behind them, making the fleet appear as though it was pitch black. Garrick stood on the bridge, looking over the battlefield as they drew closer and closer to the enemy fleet. Wait... wait... wait... now! “Open fire!” For a second, nothing happened. Then, a single shot came off one of the turbolasers mounted on the frigates, followed by another, and another. The entire fleet suddenly erupted in light green laser fire as they focused down one of the Nebulas. Holding the fleet back, simply using the powerful turbolasers mounted on the Imperial ships, they very clearly outgunned the Saurian fleet laid out before them, although they were still putting up a fight. The concentrated fire began tearing at the Nebula’s shields as bombers were prepared for offensive action in the hangars. Today was the day that this insurgent world was finally brought under the thumb of the First Order. The ships did not relent even as they stretched the enemy’s shields to it’s limit. They would try to keep their fleet back, and in these exact positions, in order to repel any attacking craft.

With the comms cut, Legate Africanus turned his attention back to commanding the fleet. Even as the two fleets drew closer to one another, X-wings, A-wings, Y-wings, and a small collection of K-wings launched from the Nebula's and a pair of nearby defence stations. Several cruisers and gunboats made micro jumps from their positions around the planet. Quite literally jumping into the fray to shoot at the enemies flanks.
As soon as they were in range, the Nebula's started taking hits, with the Commodus taking the most damage as the First Order concentrated fire upon the Star Destroyer. The shields buckled, before the holes were punched through the armour plating. Africanus watched from the furthest Nebula as the lead ship's reactor was breached and exploded. The Nebula gun crews were already firing back, thankfully having locked on to their targets on the approach
Titus brought the Saurian Deliverance in for a hard landing at the space station. Fighter crews were already assembling to prepare the local air defences as the alert was starting to go up. But otherwise, things seemed to be going fairly normally on Chistoria. There didn't seem to be any active efforts to begin preparing people to evacuate. The First Order may have only just shown up, but that should have been more than enough to stir the Council into some preparation.
Titus disembarked the Freighter, the Praetorian Guard following close behind. Perhaps they were biding their time to sound the alarm, so as to not cause mass hysteria before everything was in place to handle it. In any case, he was going to find out some answers as he headed out of the spaceport and boarded a shuttle to the Council building...
