First of all, Hi! :D
It feels like it's been forever since I last posted. This is very refreshing.
So, I made a poll on this subject about two years ago on the old site, about the prospect of trying to get a circulation of new players trickling in to help increase activity on the boards and increase RP on the site. And we were going somewhere really promising with it. I remember the Whills were even advertising the site.
But then the Great Crash Of 2013 happened and we had to relocate the site here. Now that we're back up on our feet, what do you think about giving it another go?

I agree we need new blood but the problem is reaching out. The site has a twitter page run by the Whills. It's been silent for many moons now. I myself started a fan page for the site on Facebook and it works like a psudeo HNN/ talking to the people. However so few people answer or look at it with 26 on the site actually having like it.
As for current Whill project I haven't a clue. That's a wee bit above my pay scale. Oh and welcome back.
Anyways you can see it, we all see it. This has been a small group for a while but it is shrinking with many of the vets leaving now. Be it RL issues, infighting, or people not able to change it's taken a toll on RP everywhere. Without the influx of new people this site is doomed to die not with a bang but a whimper.
What we need is a Facebook game similar to where 1.0 stemmed from. Something to draw in the nerds, then we help them take the plunge into total fangasam. I feel like promoting on other RP sites isn't enough. How many people truly joined from that? Once it began I remember only a handful of people joining and fewer staying.
The crash was the catalyst for the death of the site and O fear it's to late to save it.

As long as we keep writing, it is alive. That is the bottom line. Active stories are what will keep this alive. Sure, new blood is needed, and wanted, and new blood makes for fresh ideas and an influx of enthusiasm, but it isn't the be-all, end-all. Even if this site fails, as long as we have the drive to continue writing our PC's, JvS will always be alive. After the fall of 1.5, my core group wrote JvS on other RPG sites until 2.0 started up. All it takes is dogged determination.
Now, if we're to go on a recruitment drive, sign me up. But that takes funds. You want funds, we need to do more than a weak-ass 'donate' button, which is waaaay too easy to ignore. Make a pro membership, with real benefits. Maybe a for sale section (memorabilia, comics, cosplay, costume stuff...) open only to the Pro members, or exclusive chat for Pros, charge a yearly fee that makes advertising the site a real possibility. With real revenue, real advances can be made. I'm a member on bmxmuseum.com, and that site thrives because of the pro membership. It's cheap, but if enough people know about the tangible benefits of being a pro member, the site would have a real revenue stream, and attract a more diverse cross-section of the SW fandom. Keep the story-writing front and centre, but add other things (like the game Xeo mentions) to diversify.

It would be nice if the PR for the place was put more into our hands. We are the community. Not knocking the Whills, but it seems like RL steals their attention more often than not. I don't really think it's fair to ask them to admin the place and be responsible for trying to revamp the place and bring in new people or add new sections all on their own.
We obviously can't do it with out them since they have the keys to the car.
Since the break from having the standalone site to being a part of proboards, it gives us a new kind of autonomy I think. I think if we want this place to grow and change, we need to be the catalyst for it.
I want to see the whills hand the Twitter over to someone. I want to see them add a blog section. Turn it into a SW fan community that happens to have an RP section. Because really what brought all of us in was that there was a game that happened to have an RP section.
And I agree with Fel. As long as people are writing, the place will live on.

I am still saying a thread for banner exchange with sites would be good. A hungarian site I wrote on (untill I realised I cant fracking write hungarian anymore) had a banner exchange thread where they had banners from other sites that had THEIR banners. It was a way to say: hey man, if you want more of this stuff, here are some other sites.
I remember that site also having an english writing part, witch tells me that there are a lot of foregin language sites that have people aching to write in english, just doesnt know where.

Great. Just what we need. More kooky Europeans writing with us. What if more Germans come?
Wait, why aren't we funding this?
Also, the site should consider having their most attractive members have a profile that lurkers could see. Maybe get more people with sex appeal. I mean if we do get a Twitter started.

There is a JvS Fan Page on Facebook that you're all encouraged to like, share, and participate on. It wasn't created by the Whills and it's not run by them, but that doesn't make it any less a useful tool in promoting the site.

Stay away from that, Eralam. You'll give people the ideal that we're all bookish extremists with cordite expulsion addiction.

Nice. Just posted some SW goodness on the fan page. Think we should let the site at large know about this!

.....
Damn it.
Okay, new plan: you showcase a shooting segment so that writers learn the proper way of describing a shooting.

First off, thank you for inviting me to the Facebook page, Eralam.
Looking over it does bring up a few things to mind. Are we advertising as many storylines as possible. Are we perhaps advertising the site too much as being focused on matters related to the Empire. Not everyone on here even follows that story arc. There are a lot of niche writers as well, and they should each get a showcase in order to show our diversity as a whole. Focusing on any one group, even my group, makes us seem one dimensional when the site as a whole isn't.
I can name examples of things to prove my case if you lot ask, but I think it's apparent.

We should include excerpts from storylines too. There are a lot of lazy people out there who wouldn't want to read entire threads, so if we throw out segments of stories, they might get fished in, as the idiom goes.

Well, right now there are two people working the page, and there hasn't been much interest until the last day or so. Combing the site for potential stories to post hasn't been all that high on our priorities.
However, the idea of mini excerpts from the site isn't a bad one. If anyone would like to submit potential candidates, we'll try to post them semi-regularly.

Me and Era are on the Admin panel. I agree that it should showcase some other material but as Era said I really dont have the time to comb through pages to find different stuff. Perhaps it might be as simple as people sending us a link and we can come up with the little blurb/excerpt from it.

You must have meant Tess' suggestion. We should include excerpts from storylines too. . . . . . so if we throw out segments of stories, they might get fished in, as the idiom goes. And yes, it's a great idea, Tess. We all should provide links to different story lines. And not just our own, but to all the lines we read. Then we can send them to Xeo and Eralam, who would remain impartial and post up whatever seems good enough. Though I must say, there's got to be a way to advertise.
