Please my lady. Standash bows her head. This event is for your people. I will use your traditions here. As Crom'nen said, we are here as one people, no need to conform to human traditions.
Of course, there would have to be a meeting to decide those things. I would hope the Council would show favor on the risks my people would be taking. Taking on a financial burden so far away, in a place with such upheaval. But that is not what we are here to discuss now is it? We are hear to state what we hope to happen and let the particulars sort themselves out later. Are we not?

Despite the fact she was running late, Lady Lilith still managed to arrive at the entrance to the Ryloth Charity Ball in a hastily rented hoverlimo and looking as beautiful and lively as ever, despite the fact that she'd only arrived to Coruscant less than an hour ago on the Icecrown. She arrived unattended by any of the Elite Clone Troopers that had made the trip to Coruscant with her and clad only in her usual white attire, having opted against any fancy dress or the overly protected look. She was the new comer ehre, and as the representative of the galaxy's only known producer of bacta, a medicine that was used as the basis of almost all health care the galaxy over, with the only competitor being kolto, she needed to make an impression. She made her way past security, having brought no weapons or items that would need to be checked, and continued on into the event, her false lightside aura well in effect to fool the handful of Jedi that were attending the event, before the Herald announced her arrival Lady Lilith, Representative of The Holy Thyferran Republic! It was a little grandiose, but Lilith felt there needed to be a little more pomp to the name, considering some of the introductions she'd briefly seen on the Heralds list before her, and if she wanted to draw some attention, this was one hell of a way to do so, if her revealing attire and deep red hair weren't enough already. With her arrival announced, Lilith set about mingling with the crowd, ready to charm the Republic elite, since they would undoubtedly be crucial to her plans going forward

Before Ar'lah could speak, Crom'nen spoke further.
Ar'lah is not from Ryloth. She does not carry the traditions of our people. She is actually a local. But you are right. Now is not the time to speak of corporate taxes, tariffs, and other bores of political debate. Tonight is a night to celebrate unity. Tell me Senator, you are only slightly older than I was when I first arrive on Coruscant as a mere aide. Have you had a hard time settling in?

As the Corellian Jedi stood quietly in the dressing room, focusing his mind and reviewing his planned remarks, Master Raganella's personal comlink buzzed, insistently. At first, he ignored it, but then he checked to see who was calling, and, reluctantly, accepted the call, holo image and all. It was Master Roma, and and a guest, Master Raddekh, on Corellia. He had a short but important conversation with them, which fit very much with the content of his planned speech, but his cue was coming, and he cut it short.
Ending the call, he typed a quick message, and sent it to Senator Koronov. Master Raddekh of Ossus wishes to discuss a proposal with you. He is on Corellia now.
And then it was showtime.
~
After the cheers for Senator Crom'nen had died down, and after a pleasant interlude from the band, the music died down once again, and the spotlights shone once more upon the podium. Kel'Al stepped from behind the curtain and made his way slowly to the podium, feeling an immeasurable calm fall upon him as his Jedi techniques took hold of his mind and emotions. He took a moment to let the polite applause to die down as he looked out over the crowd. The Corellian was dressed not in his Jedi robes, but in a three-piece dark grey suit, with a sharp green tie and a white shirt. His blue eyes twinkled in the spotlights, and he briefly touched the corner of the podium with his left index finger, before letting his hands fall to his sides.
Friends, when I was asked to speak to you tonight, I quickly realized that my most powerful message was not a Jedi message, or a Twi’lek message, or even a Republic message. It is much bigger than that, and so I am here not as Kel’Al Raganella, the Jedi, or even as Kel’Al Raganella, the retired politician, but as Kel’Al Raganella, a fellow citizen of our vast galaxy.
Many of you know that before I retired from politics, I was a servant of the United Federation of Free Worlds, and during those days, we laid the groundwork for the Galactic Coalition, which grew into one of the factions whose union re-established the Republic. I ultimately concluded that politics was no place for a Jedi, and that it distracted from my core mission as a servant of the Force, but along the way, I learned some important lessons about the value of worlds such as Ryloth to the survival and protection of every other world.
As Chief of State, I focused on every planet that we could bring into our federation, not because I desired power, but because I knew that a Jedi presence could bring vigilance, and a civilian military presence would offer preparation and protection that few planets could afford or achieve on their own. Our mutual cooperation was our greatest asset in those days, whether it was boots on the ground, or simply establishing communications channels to share intelligence.
If we saw an opening to wrest a planet from the control of the Sith or of other oppressors, we took that opportunity, no matter where the planet was located. We prioritized the liberty and safety of those civilian populations. If it was a strategic world, great, then it could help us defend other worlds. If it was not inherently strategic, then it held equal value as an outpost and a hiding place. We found a valuable military purpose for every world, but the true value was in knowing that another civilization had been made safe, and that with every planet, our strength of numbers was increased.
Ryloth was one of those worlds, and our approach was no different than anywhere else. We fought a series of wars for control of the planet, taking great losses along the way, including the flagship of our navy, the Pride of Corellia, and thousands of Corellians and Hapans and Naboo and many other races who bled and died alongside the Twi’leks. In the end we were victorious, and ushered in an era of peace for the Twi’leks that was rarely broken until this most recent calamity.
But as much history as I personally, and many in this room, have with Ryloth, this idea ultimately isn’t about Ryloth. This idea is about all of us, and all of our homes. Ryloth is but one world out of thousands, and the painful pictures that Crom’nen has so vividly painted for you are the same tragedies that could visit any of your worlds, if we are not vigilant, prepared, and cooperative in our mutual defenses. We are either working together to create a position of strength, or we are creating weaknesses by forming divisions that our enemies can and will use against us.
He let that sink in before continuing.
You may be wondering what’s in it for the powerful central planets like Corellia. Well, let me tell you a story. In the early days of the UFFW, before my time as Chief of State, our enemies gathered a great invasion army and navy in the Outer Rim, with the intentions of capturing Corellia. Moving with impressive speed, they were able to cut their way clear through to the Core and launch their invasion without any resistance until they exited hyperspace over Corellia. Suddenly our defense forces were utterly out-gunned. All we could hope to do was buy time for reinforcements to arrive.
And the CDF did it -- barely. They were down to its last two capital ships and its last squadron of starfighters when help reached us from the other worlds of the Corellian System and our nearby colonies. The Sith were landing troops in our streets, and the Jedi Academy was being bombarded from orbit.
But then a powerful thing happened. More and more allies flocked to our defense, even ones whom we had not directly called, heard the news, and they came to fight beside us. This was not limited to the worlds of the UFFW. Other forces came to our aid that day from beyond our borders. Mandalorians, and Alderaanians, and Grey Jedi, and numerous Jedi sects.
Kel’Al paused, glancing down at the podium as tears formed in the corners of his eyes.
I will never forget the feeling of gratitude I felt toward our saviors when the Sith sounded their retreat.
He paused again, blinked, then looked up, emphasizing his next words carefully.
But we learned two important lessons that day: First, that our alliances made us powerful, but second, that we were blind. We needed to increase our vigilance in the Outer Rim, and along the less traveled hyperspace lanes, and among the lowest, most forgotten, least defended planets, whether close to home, or halfway across the galaxy.
It doesn’t matter whether you live on Coruscant or the Core Worlds, or whether you call the Outer Rim home. What happens to your world will eventually affect all of us.
We cannot undo what has happened on Ryloth, but we can let it serve as a warning to us all. We must not be complacent, or think that such misfortune is someone else’s problem. Next time, it might not be Ryloth. It might be Naboo, or Rendili, or my own Corellia, or even Coruscant herself.
We have an opportunity this evening to show the evil forces in this galaxy that we are strong, and that we will take care of our friends. Let us take back the headlines, and make sure that the story is not about how a tragedy befell the Twi’leks, but about how the Republic and her friends picked Ryloth back up again, and made her stronger than she ever was before.
Thank you. And he stepped back from the podium, his eyes almost immediately drifting to Senator Crom'nen.
It was a money line, or at least he hoped it would be. He may have held some private distrust of Crom'nen, but tonight they were all playing for the same team.

Crom'nen stood, facing the podium, giving full attention to the speech. He had an encouraging, tight-lipped smile on his face, and applauded at the conclusion with the vigor of any Senator. When the Jedi Master looked him in the eye, Crom'nen gave him a nod of gratitude.
Crom'nen knew well of Raganella. He had followed his career for years. The Jedi was the rarest type of being in the galaxy. He was powerful, and humble. Experienced and compassionate. Most of all, he was a good man. How strange. One of the few Jedi Crom'nen had ever met that were worthy of respect.
Crom'nen did know of the attack on Corellia. He had learned of it as it was happening. That said, there were several reasons he did not respond. First an foremost, he was involved in his own "aggressive negotiations." Secondly, one single Corellian Corvette was not likely to turn the tide of the battle. Third, he expected the Free Jedi Order to arrive, and that was not a risk that he would take.
The Twi'lek did pick up on one thing. The Jedi Master had, very subtly, taken credit for the era of peace that Ryloth had been under. A masterful stroke, Crom'nen had to admit. It was fairly accurate too. Crom'nen had been absent for over two years when the United Federation of Free Worlds had delivered Ryloth from the hands of tyranny to the hands of democracy. Even though he had largely received credit from his people, Crom'nen knew this was not the true case. He had been appointed Senator only later, after his return. He had been off fighting a private war, against a slaver named Brussk, who had incured Crom'nen's wrath. It had taken him years to track the Trandoshan, but Crom'nen ultimately dropped him in between two Sarlaacs on Arganor, who had ripped him in two and each swallowed half. His people viewed him as liberator. Crom'nen had liberated hundreds, even thousands, but Kel'Al delivered Ryloth first, even though Crom'nen had driven off this most recent attack.
Crom'nen spoke under his breath. Well done, Master Jedi. Well done indeed.

Whilst Lilith had been spending most of her time with various members of the corporate elite thus far, she'd been slowly but steadily gaining information about the various political figures that were present at the ball, ranging from incoming senators such as Standash Thule and Zarine S'daya, to Republic veterans such as Dmitri Koronov and Cromna Fenn. Like most politicians, they each had their own group of supporters and opposition, even if some of them were only making their first real public appearance at this event, but then, the election for the next Supreme Chancellor was coming up, and everyone was looking for a horse to back so they could hopefully gain in the long run. Regardless of the results though, Lilith was quite content with sticking to the edges and choosing the most profitable ally to start negotiations with, and she was quite certain she had found the right person to start with. As soon as the former politician turned full-time Jedi known as Master Raganella finished his speech, which was indeed quite impressive, she gave an appropriate applause, before making her way over to where Standash was currently meeting with Crom'nen, the one man at the whole event they drew equally as much support as he did ire. Lilith gave a bow to the assembled group of politicians Senator's, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance... A rousing speech to say the least, would you not agree?

Crom'nen gave his typical bowed head of greeting to the newcomer. This was one of the few people assembled here for which he did not have a docket memorized. Indeed. I am Crom'nen. You are.

I will meet him there. I may have a few things to take care of until thin my lady. He turns to take his leave, but then thinks better of it. He focuses and puts his hannd on his back. He is holding something small. One more thing. With the skill of a seasoned pickpocket he puts the small item in hers Give that to the Jedi, he will know what to do with it. =Aylee'saresh="Excellent." Looking slightly surprised as the evening's most unusual guest dropped something into her hand, Aylee cupped her fingers around the object, and closed it tightly. It appeared to be some sort of crystal. She nodded, bowing slightly. "I will. Good evening." Then she turned, and re-entered the building, hurrying back to the main ball room of 500 Republica. At the entrance, she caught up with Knight Halcyon, and handed him Cass's gift. Leaving the Jedi with a bewildered look on his face and a lightsaber crystal in the palm of his hand, Senator Koronov's secretary found a new seat in the audience just as Master Raganella took the stage. The retired politician and Jedi had always had a way with words, but tonight he exceeded all her expectations. Maybe it had just been so long since she last heard him speak, but he hit all the right notes, and wove in some subtle backstory, as a bonus. She was pleased, and peered at the charity donation collectors out of the corner of her eyes as the speech concluded. If Raganella had connected with his audience as skillfully as she believed he had, there was about to be a new rush of donations.

She was unsurprised that her entrance had drawn little attention, especially considering how late her arrival was and how many people were now present at the event, so she didn't miss a beat as Crom'nen asked who she was Lady Lilith of Thyferra. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Senator.

Lilith could have easily mistaken Crom'nen for just about any other senator in the room from their brief interaction, but she knew better than that. The fact of the matter was, she already half suspected the man was somehow involved with the organising of this charity event to boost his political credibility, after all, he had just announced his return to Senatorship after delivering his speech. All that said, for now she would trade pleasantries with him, since he was far to volatile a target to consider an ally for Lord Azazel's plan I wouldn't have missed this event, after all, it is a veritable who's who of the Republic. You can always make plenty of friends when people are feeling charitable...

Crom'nen smiled warmly. No, my Lady, not just the Republic. He began to gesture to individuals around the room. There is the new Emperor. There are a few Jedi. Near the food you see some of the powerful businessmen from unaffiliated worlds. Not to mention yourself. This is a room of the galaxy's leaders, bonding together to say that enough is enough. I am honored to be among such fine people as yourself, especially given the colorful nature of my recent history.

It was an intentional mistake on her part, with the Senator's seperation of various groups providing some valuable insight and confirmation of certain rumours she had heard regarding the state of affairs. She had been honestly surprised when she had heard the Emperor of the Galactic Empire had shown to this charity gala, though, when she learned that the new claimant to the title was little more than a non-force user, it had made all the more sense. Then there were the Jedi, whom appeared to have some strained relationship with the Republic, which was made all the more apparent by the fact that they were singled out as a seperate group, since historically, the Republic and Jedi were synonymous with one another. At the very least, Crom'nen was well aware that there was those beyond the borders of the Republic, whereas others would have claimed the Republic as the center of the galaxy and vehemently denied the Empire. In fact, politically, it was an interesting tactic, since for some, the Empire was nothing but an illegitimate state, but then, it would serve some prupose to provide the people of the Republic an enemy state to shift the anger of the people towards Colourful is one word to describe it... But yes, I did misspeak, and that was my mistake, but then, one can never be too cautious. I've met more than a couple people tonight who scorn the idea that the Republic isn't the one true political power within the galaxy. It is good to see you are open minded enough to recognize that... It was then, that Lilith turned her attention to Standash Thul, the senator of Alderaan, whom she had originally come over to meet and greet, since she would be a fairly vital piece in things to come I must say though, it is you, my dear, that I really came over to meet...

Hello there my lady. Standash glides over to the new comer like she was on a cloud. Gown glistening as she moves. I have just received a note a new comer was looking for me, I assume that to be you. It is great to meet you. I am Princess Standash Thul Senator of Alderaan. How can i be of service to you?

Standash was every bit as graceful as the rumours said she was, well, the few of them that there were anyway, seeing as how like Lilith, Standash was making her first public appearance at this event. There was much to be discussed between them, but now was certainly not the time to begin such discussions For now, I just wanted to greet the new Senator for Alderaan, especially considering the friendship our two worlds have had in the past. It seems only right that we should reignite that friendship, especially considering the benefits it could have for both of our people, benefits which are best left for a discussion in a more accomodating situation of course...

Lilith wasn't really sure how to answer the Alderaanian Princesses question, since her experience of the capital had been limited only to what she had seen outside the hoverlimo windows and the ball itself You would be correct that I did just arrive, a mere hour or two ago in fact. Honestly, I've had little time to take in much of Coruscant, and after this Ball, I'll be on the move again. There is much to do when you are a new emerging government, something I am sure you understand well. But in all the work that needs to be done, I knew I couldn't pass up a chance to meet you first. Speaking of, I really do not have much time left... Lilith then pulled out a piece of paper and wrote her comm link id on it and handed it to Standash Feel free to contact me on that frequency, and we can organise to meet up. I would love to visit Alderaan sometime, that is for certain...

As the afterparty drew to a close, Kel'Al and his friends departed 500 Republica. Senator Koronov and his aides returned to their senatorial residences, while the Jedi and Corellian military officials made their way to the Galactic City spaceport, where passage home was awaiting them. Kel had much to think about, including the call from Corellia which had interrupted his speech preparations. He wondered what exactly Jaecyn was planning, and how it might impact Corellia and the Republic. But that discussion was Koronov's job now.
