The next day he awoke to the sound of the voice in the speaker. His eyes opened and for the first time since he left and entered the wasteland he had forgotten where he was, thinking he would wake up to his room down in the Vault. He had to have a double take before realizing where he was, the cramped corner of his cell. What quickly brought him to his senses was the toilet next to his bed which was rather unpleasant waking up to every day of the week. Jack sat to the edge of the bunk starring at the floor and pondering upon the last few days with Iris during his introduction into the wasteland, he heard the sound of footsteps just outside his door. He could hear the person standing next to his door followed by the sudden ''Click''. He stood up when the door was unlocked getting ready for the first human contact he's had in over a week, he had questions but he never expected to make it out of this alive. His adrenaline kicked in but no one entered, thinking to himself perhaps he had just been hearing things. The radio still replayed, the sound coming from behind the metal grate he could not get to though if he could there'd be no more radio to listen to. Who's there . . .
He said raising his voice but there was no answer. He approached the door wondering if there were someone out there looking in threw the one way window he could not see out of, there was no sound anymore. Just the silence. His hand neared the door and just as he was about to touch it the door slid open, shifting into the slot between the wall. The steel hallway was empty as he stepped out with his bare feet cringing over the cold floor. Slowly he walked towards the door of the cell just across the hall unlocking the door, the prisoner looked up at him as John quickly approached him. Come on we're getting out of this place! He said to him but the man stood up.
You can't leave. This is a good thing...the Enclave is the future. YOU CAN'T LEAVE. The man said when he grabbed Jack and threw him to the floor. He tried to get him off before the crazed man wrapped his hands around Jack's neck and started to squeeze. His eyes were wide but without emotion. Nobody leaves!!
He tried pulling off his hands but failed. Jack repeatedly hit the mans arm with his clenched fists, breaking his grasp on his neck for a moment, long enough to swing at his face and knock him over. Jack gasped for air while he rolled over and pushed himself up off of the floor. The man was on his chest, pushing to get up and just as he looked at Jack mumbling something about the Enclave, he kicked him square in the face knocking the guy out. He planted his hands against his knee's, breathing deep to regain some focus. He looked up noticing all the prisoners looking out and hitting the door after hearing the struggle. They were all gone insane. He started to run down the empty hall confused, there were no guards on this level. This was the headquarters wasn't it? He continued down the right hall still hearing the radio even though he wasn't in his cell. Mr Hopper is responding well to the treatment...I'm confident he'll survive this.
Jack looked around hearing a voice. Though no one was around or close enough to him to be heard that loud, so he continued to run. He entered a stairwell going up when he found himself on another prison block. He came to a stop when he noticed the same man he just knocked out. He shook his head. That's impossible. He stepped back and turned to enter the stairwell again but discovered the door had vanished. He hit the wall then stepped back. He continued to step back before he hit another wall. He looked around and began to panic when he was closed off in a steel box with no direction to go. A door appeared as he made another turn looking for a way out...the walls had finally closed in after he stepped threw the door. Another stairwell. He looked up threw the middle trying to see the top but it was as if it kept going up forever. He ran up the first flight of stairs when suddenly he heard that familiar hiss of a ghoul, he looked down threw the middle just as it leaped to the steps to chase Jack. His heart rate increased as he started to climb the seemingly endless stairwell with the Ghoul chasing him down. His vitals are declining..
Jack kept climbing but he could barely carry himself up the steps anymore. He could now hear more then one Ghoul chasing him down below, but there didn't seem to be an end to this stairwell. It's felt like hours climbing this. His legs were becoming weak. He understood something wasn't right here as he heard the sounds of the radio playing, echoing threw the stairwell. He ran up the next flight of stairs to come face to face with a white brick wall...a stairway to nowhere? He shook his head when suddenly he heard the Ghoul. He turned around to look at it, realizing almost immediately that this ghoul was himself. He backed up and just before it got it's hands on Jack, he awoke. Strapped on the table feeling an immense amount of adrenaline going threw him..
Easy now. You're alright.
Jack felt his heart thumping against his chest.
What the hell did you do to me!
He asked Doctor Ivanov. Jack looked pale, especially since much of his blood was gone yet he felt energized. His hands were shaking, his head begun to hurt. Ivanov removed the blood bag from the clip and placed it inside the freezer where five more hung already. You've been in a coma state for the past three days...and you have been dead for the past five hours.
Jack tried to recall that strange dream he had but just after awakening it was quickly forgotten. He looked at his arms and legs, they were all locked in. He also noticed how pale he was after looking at his skin, as if he were still a corpse. Let me out of this. Ivanov glanced at him. Checking his vitals which were off the charts but Jack seemed fine, to his surprise Ivanov released the steel plates holding him down. He didn't expect the doctor to actually release him but there was definitely something else here. Where is Vlerges!
Jack shouted at the doctor when he grabbed him by the shirt and pushed him against the wall, lifting Ivanov off his feet. Ivanov didn't say anything except stare at Jack with amazement, all of his work and theories have been proven right. It worked. Ivanov whispered when suddenly Jack heard someones footsteps enter.
Drop him jack. He let the doctor free as he dropped and fell to the floor. Jack was in disbelief when he heard that voice. He turned around finding Iris standing there with her hand hovering above the pistol in her holster. He didn't think at first, but smiled until she pulled out the pistol as he approached her. *Zzzzt* Jack stopped when he felt the heated laser hit him in the chest. He looked down at his chest, pulling up his shirt to find a healing wound and the gushing dark blood stopping. She placed the pistol back in her holster and looked to Ivanov. You crazy son of a bitch...you did it. You actually did it.
Iris said to Ivanov who stood up. Jack then recalled Iris and Kira getting shot as he shook his head. What if that didn't work! He shouted at Iris. And - and i...I witnessed your execution! your sister Iris...Kira, you're with the people that murdered your sister!?
Jack said trying to make sense of all of this. Unsure if Iris was actually on his side right now.
Kira is alive Jack. You witnessed what we wanted you to see...she thinks I'm dead. The Brotherhood will act and return from the shadows of the wasteland, my main mission was to weed out the brotherhood. Then when you showed up...I knew you would be the perfect bait to draw them out. There is no good side or bad side Jack. I've been working undercover for about four years now and I can honestly say the Brotherhood is guilty of things just like the Enclave. At least we aren't afraid of admitting the things we've done...but It's all to benefit the future. I'm still undercover and we still have an errand to complete.
Jack chuckled and shook his head.
Why would I help you now...I'm a prisoner here.
Iris approached Jack.
Nothing has changed. Except you. Ivanovs success in creating this compound from your blood will not only purify peoples blood but will allow humankind to adapt to the Wasteland...your faster and stronger now. This is a good thing...it's the end of humanities extinction event.
