He didn't say anything at first, merely swallowing the glass of Tihaar in one smooth, practised motion. He seemed to pause for a moment, eyes adopting a far away and slightly haunted look as they peered off towards infinity. Finally he stirred, eyes flickering back from their wanderings to alight once again on the here and now. With absent-minded ease he secured himself another refill, holding his glass halfway towards his lips before speaking.
"I've fired a few shots..."
He slammed the Tihaar back and immediately reached for the bottle again. The raucous around them was getting annoying and he figured the only way to counter it was to get as drunk as everyone else. Well, he thought vaguely as he glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, shrewdly remembering the keycard Don had given him...
Perhaps not the only option.

Have you now? She watched as he shot back the tihaar without so much as flinching. She raised an elbow to the bar, resting her chin on her hand as she stared at him, trying to get a read on his mood. He apparently was just as pleased to be here as she was if he was pushing back the alcohol just as quickly. I'd say if Don recommended you, you've done more than that. She leaned in, enough to catch his musky scent, and dropped her voice to a husky almost-whisper. It's a simple trip to Coruscant, we're dropping off some electronic parts. Apparently it's time-sensitive and the parts are worth a fortune. We normally don't need security on our trips, but the client prefers it this time around. Sound like something you can handle?

He grunted noncommittally and busied himself with yet another shot. It was starting to take effect now and he nodded his head in what appeared to be a gesture of respect directed to the bottle itself. His head came up slowly to allow his eyes to drift around before settling on the woman as she leaned in closer, narrowing slightly as he pondered a reply.
"In my experience trips to Coruscant are rarely simple..."
It was true. Asides from the usual nightmare of docking clearance, permits, tolls and the general myriad tangle of red tape, it was often a precarious visit for one such as him. Then again, that could more than likely of been of his own making. The ill-fated Guros rendezvous sprang to mind. The political climate may not help either, the knock on effect of Ashrah's holy war almost certainly fostering an anti-Mando sentiment among the core-worlders...
He kept all that to himself as he refilled again and instead answered her question with...
"Depends on the pay."

Vee slowly leaned back, her eyes narrowing the speculation. He was being very tight-lipped and vague. She didn't like that. What was he trying to hide? She couldn't very well recommend him to Jeev if he wouldn't tell her his credentials. But Don vouched for him, and as goofy as Vee found her co-pilot to be, he didn't play around when it came to business. His reputation was on the line, after all.
Vee picked up her glass and slowly swirled the liquor inside. I can't promise you any sum, but my boss can. We should go somewhere...quieter, more discreet. I can get Jeev on the com, are you staying with Don while you're here? We could go back to his place to discuss this further.

He nodded his head slowly before repeating the motion of downing his glass, the motion so similar to the other times that he had partaken the drink that it looked almost mechanic. When he drank it was with grim determination more than revelry and mirth, a relentless drive to oblivion that was frightening in its intensity.
"He gave me a keycard for lodgings here..."
He dropped his chin to the bar, peering with one eye at the rather low level of liquor left in the bottle. With a grunt he poured the last of the Tihaar into their glasses and gestured for the barkeep to approach.
"Tug'yc par teh goyust, ner tat."
He gestured to the now empty bottle, giving the man a 'chop chop' motion with his free hand. Turning to the red-haired wench he raised the glass high, his eyes meeting hers with a suggestive yet questioning light.
"Bah shev'la jor'haarir."
He swallowed the drink and slammed the glass down on the bar with considerable force. The barman returned with a fresh bottle, giving him a sour look that brightened considerable when Sven scattered coins on the bar top. Picking up the bottle, Sven secured his gear and stood, offering a raised eyebrow to her as he showed impressive fortitude by not even entertaining a single sway.
"Shall we?"

Vee snorted with wry amusement.Of course Don gave him a key card. That little - Vee watched as the cousin drowned himself in tihaar, only just catching the gist of what he was saying in mando'a.Her father rarely spoke it, as her mother was not a native mando, and there were better things that needed to be done on Basilisk, like fighting for your life. Therefore, she never learned much.
Vee discreetly and quickly poured out the tihaar he poured into her glass. She was already drunk, but far from plastered, and she wanted to keep it that way, at least while in the cousin's presence. She didn't know what Don promised him, what kind of drunk the cousin would be or how he would act once they were alone.
Vee slid off the stool. Sure. She did sway slightly. Even though her mental facilties were still operating, her body betrayed her. Lead the way. As they passed by Don, she caught his attention with a wave, then flipped him the bird and silently mouthed. F*** you.
Don just grinned in return...except when he noticed the genuine pissed-off nature of Vee's face, then he sobered quickly, an expression of concern replacing it. He threw up his hands questioningly and mouthed What? Vee just waved him off while Don watched them leave.
As they left, Vee decided to cut right to the chase and see if she could get any kind of reaction out of the cousin.. I'm guessing Don got you this room in case we decided to hook up.

The room was plain, not much more comfortable than several military bunk rooms he had occupied over the past several years. A bed, cupboard, side cabinet, a table and two chairs. A single window looked out over the street from their second story vantage point with scruffy curtains flanking it to either side. The light flickered on feebly as they entered casting a dirty glow over the tan walls.
"I have given up trying to divine Don's intentions."
Setting the unopened bottle on the table he stored his satchel and rifle in the cupboard and proceeded to begin removing armour. The holster containing his Deathhammer blaster pistol was unwound from his waist, rolled up and deposited next to the rifle. The sheath containing a short and ugly looking beskad came next, also wrapped and secure. What followed was a robotic-like alleviation of armour plates, hidden knives, explosives and clips, all of which were also carefully stowed.
Sitting in one of the chairs he began to pull off his boots and shin guards, the midnight blue armourweave body stocking making him appear a shadow in the faint glow of the illuminator.
"Is he often so inclined to offer your services in such a way?"
The question was bland and his face expressionless yet there was a slight trace of amusement to it that spoke of a light-hearted mockery. He left it vague enough so as to avoid a possible bad reaction to such levity should she pose ill-inclined to receive it. It was too late in the night to get slapped...

Vee followed him in silence to the lodge next door. It was a simple affair, all the necessities, though in a rough condition. She took a seat on one of the feeble chairs as he started to undress. His undress didn't bother her in the least, accustomed to nudity from her life on Basilisk where there was little privacy of any kind. She had learned since being on Mandalore that it wasn't common though, and in her loosened state, she forgot this. In fact, she barely noticed it at all, too busy brooding over the whole affair now that her expectations were shattered. At least Don hadn't embarrassed her by telling the cousin that he was also trying to hook them up. Vee snorted to herself.Given the fact the mando only seemed interested in drinking and could hardly gather enough interest to put a few words together at a time, maybe he did need to get laid.
Her conclusion that Don hadn't mentioned anything sexual about her vanished as the cousin mentioned her "services". The atmosphere quickly became charged as she was on her feet in a flash. She almost pulled out her slugs, she was so mad. She started to come out of her drunken state.. Look buddy, I don't have time for your bulls***. In case there's some doubt as to who I am, I'm your pervert-of-a-cousin's boss, and if this is some kind of game of his, you can go tell him to f*** himself, and you can too while you're at it! I don't have time for this s***, and he'll be lucky if he keeps his job after what you guys are pulling. She threw the biggest insult in mando'a she could think of, to counter the biggest insult she could think of by implying she was a prostitute. Etyc dar'manda hut'uun! She spat on the floor at his feet.
She was no fighter, but she almost hoped he would try to start a fight, she wanted to knife him right in the groin, especially now that his armor was off.

He weathered the storm in silence, indifference even, as he continued to go about his undress. The click of the final clasp that held his shin guard in place was deafening in the resulting silence at the end of her tirade. His face was downturned through the whole verbal explosion but now tilted up slightly as both still-gauntlet-clad hands seized his left boot.
"Udesii, cyar'ika..."
The words were softly spoken yet there contained a hint of steel and menace laced under the quiet tones. Even though she loomed over him he seemed to possess considerable threat even in his seemingly relaxed state, boot sliding off the foot with a gentle tug. His eyes dropped briefly again as he set his boot precisely next to the other to his left before he raised them again, narrowing slightly.
"It was a question not a statement. Take it up with him if there's a problem."
He continued looking up at her, taking in her angry radiance. He cheeks were flushed with anger, the colour mingling with her hair to make her appear some flaming demon of fire in the sub-par illumination. Her chest rose and fell as she panted through her rage, breasts heaving beneath her shirt. The scar that ran from the corner of her mouth and up her left cheek bone seemed to accentuate her ire, adding a rugged beauty to her features as she glared down at him with twin blue-green turbolasers.
Never breaking eye contact he reached out his right hand slowly, looking as if he was going to touch her, then allowed it to veer off to seize the bottle of Tihaar.
"Come on. Have a drink and forget I said anything..."
He arched an eyebrow as his hand closed over the lid of the bottle.
"Unless you really do want to fight?"

His cool, calm exterior did nothing more than to irritate her further, ignoring her only added fuel to her fire. She wanted to punch the s*** out of him as he feigned reaching for her.She snorted in distain at his words. Sure, go ahead and backpedal...think you're so cute, do you? Insult me then offer me a drink? Real charmer. No wonder you never get laid, or does implying I'm a prostitute get you off?
Vee wished he had already given her the drink so she could throw it at him and smash the glass against the wall...or his head. Alas, there was nothing for her to throw.

So much for the calm and quiet, he thought morbidly as she continued to yell at him. Why did he always incur such an aggressive reaction from females? Was every woman he encountered fucking insane or was it just his luck?
Or perhaps its because you open that black hole you call a mouth without engaging your brain, di'kut...
With a heavy sigh he set the bottle back down and sat back in the chair, a look of resigned acceptance on his face. He made a gesture for her to continue, adding in a disdainful voice.
"Go ahead then. Yell away of it makes you happy."
Hopefully giving her his full attention would quicken the end of this tired. Failing that there was always a stun bolt...

Vee's pink mouth dropped. He still wasn't going to address what she was saying? He sat there, completely unguarded, unafraid, relaxed even, looking at her with those piercing, calm blue eyes as if she was the crazy one for reacting the way she did. F*** you, I'd sooner kiss a dragon. I'm done here.
She turned on her booted heels and slammed open the door, stepping out into the hall. She was going to kill Don.

He sat there frozen for a moment, mind working frantically to conjure the right social response for the situation. Did she want him to chase her or leave her be? Should he call out or hold his tongue? Did she care what he did? Somewhere in the back of his mind a small voice tried to ask when this business ceased to be about a job and became about a girls feelings but the voice found little purchase in Svens conscious mind. Maybe he should just let her storm off and sort it out with Don. He was much better at dealing with irate females than he was. Perhaps he could calm things down and all Sven would have to do is get up for work in the morning. Hell, even if the job was now floating away with her retreating ass then it wasn't the end of the world...
Still, that retreating ass...
A thought did occur to him, generated from the same lonely place as the quiet voice had come from earlier, that this was Don's job he was jeapordising by totally making a mess of this social enterprise. His base desires jumped on that tiny thought of gallant duty to his friends livelihood and had him bounding out of his chair in the blink of an eye.
He somehow managed to get his leg tangled in the chair as he rose and pretty much smashed the thing to pieced riding the annoying encumbrance as he dived for the door. Just in his near-black bodystocking with a pair of heavy white socks on his feet he looked pretty stupid as he gripped the door jam and swung his way into the corridor. Typically the alcohol that had been comfortably kept at bay up until now chose this moment to start interfering with his motor functions, adding considerable stagger to his hurried steps, impeding him when he needed his wits most.
"Wait..."
He growled savagely as he thwacked his knee on a low table that occupied a portion of the shadowy hall, hand coming down to grip the hurt leg. He bounded another two paces, long strides taking him closer still.
"Wait a minute..."
Two more steps and he flung out a hand to seize her by the elbow, spinning her around to face him.
"Kad haar'chak, PAR SOL!"
He bellowed the last two words, causing a door to open further down the hall and a pale face to peek out. He ignored the curiosity and glared at her in annoyance.
"Calm down will you! I didn't mean to imply anything!"

Vee stormed down the hall, making as much noise in her drunken anger as she could. She didn't turn, not even when he called out to her. She was completely irate, especially when he spun her around. She had no idea what he just yelled at her in mando'a, but she stopped herself from punching him when she saw how ridiculous he looked, and the glare that hinted at something close to sincerity. She raised a skeptical eyebrow, tipped her head to the side. Her anger had been enough of a buzz kill that she was starting to sober up. Maybe, just maybe, he meant what he said and was actually stupid enough to insult her and underestimate her ire.
Could he really be that socially un-adept? Are you saying that you're really stupid enough that you didn't realize you were insulting me?

He reared back slightly, his own anger bubbling to the fore. His jaw set for a moment, as if trying to avoid spilling out more words that would damage the situation. His face darkened, a tinge of red muddying his cheeks, and his eyes were dangerous. When he did speak it was through clenched teeth.
"No..." He almost snarled. "It was a tongue in cheek comment that was meant in jest."
He let go of her arms and allowed his own to drop to his side.
"Look... I didn't mean to insult and I certainly didn't mean to get my cousin in trouble..."
His anger dissolved as quickly as it came to be replaced by brooding, sullen indifference. As much as he wanted to press the issue, to press himself against her, to tug her hair back and bite her elegant neck, pride was fixed on sullying the enjoyment.
He lowered his gaze, somehow managing to look both contrite and superior in one move.
"Perhaps we should just leave it be and speak again on the morrow with clear heads?"

Vee said nothing for a moment, studying him with new eyes of a mixture of both irritated and empathetic realization. Despite what he said, she wasn't buying that he knew what he was doing...at least socially. Taung and Ex, both badasses in their own rights, had also been socially unadept. She didn't realize maybe some men had all or nothing in one area. Part of her could empathize with him...she too was a bit socially stunted as well.
She said none of this though, it didn't matter. What did matter was the job. The sooner they found someone for security, the sooner they could leave. The sooner they left, the sooner Vee could come back and take a week or two off. She stared at him, thinking, while he looked down. Her voice softened slightly. No...no, I don't think so. C'mon...
She pushed past him, long legs striding back to the room. She entered not looking to see if he was following her, noticing a bit of a mess that must have happened in his wake. She sat on the bed, and pulled her comlink out.

His jaw dropped open at her abrupt reversal of mood and, it seemed, intent. Stood frozen for a moment he literally had to give himself and internal shake to get the systems moving again, slowly turning to watch her disappear back into the room.
His mind performed a mental shrug, as if to say 'what the hell, I'm done trying to figure out women' ceasing to dwell on what the kriff was going on here. In fact, it seemed to have ceased bothering to judge anything at all such was the wooden and robotic way he seemed to be thinking at the moment.
True to the above he stiffly made his own way back to the room, picking his way over the shattered chair, to stand for a moment assessing the damage. Slowly he sank to a crouch and gathered up the broken pieces, sliding them into a neat pile where they could be disposed of tomorrow. There was, after all, no hope of saving the chair but if he could hide the evidence perhaps he could save Dons deposit.
From his position pretty much at her feet he stole a glance up at her, trying to pick out any warning signs of another impending eruption. Finally he got some coherent cognitive processing from his brain and wisely decided to exercise restraint of tongue for the time being...

Vee's comlink was ringing by the time the man reentered the room. She glanced up, watching him kneel and tidy up.This man was becoming curiouser and curiouser. Psssst...what's your name? Her voice was a near whisper as she tucked one long leg under the other, shifting her weight a bit on the bed. Her eyes bore down at him intently.

Had they not exchanged names or had she forgotten? Hell his mind cast back furiously trying to think of hers. Even he knew that it was a serious social faux pas to forget a woman's name, a death sentence for any form of continued relationship of any kind. He didn't think they had formerly introduced as he tried to run over the nights events...
It was then he realised that she was watching him, likely wondering why he was having such a hard time recalling his own name.
"Sven..."
He croaked out the name, suddenly hugely self-conscious under her intense scrutiny. At the sound of the pathetic burp of noise that passed for his voice he reddened and cleared his throat.
"Sven Garret."
That was better, he thought. Firmer. More in control.
Done with the debris he straightened back to his feet, suddenly at a loss of what to do. If her antics had meant to set him off balance then they had worked a treat, though he quickly took umbrage at the possibility that he could let such frailty show. Instead he moved slowly to sit in the remaining chair, pondering the yet unopened bottle of Tihaar...

Vee's face automatically broke out into a genuine smile when he said his name. Something about his awkwardness was endearing...maybe because it reminded her of herself. She reclined halfway on the bed, still smiling at him with the comlink at her ear. It could clearly be heard ringing. My name is Vee, Vee H'rel. It's nice to meet you Sven Garret. She squared her shoulders suddenly, her face becoming serious once more as Sven sat down and a male voice came over the com.
Jeev.
H'rel here, got a minute?
You can have a second.
I have a man here, Sven Garret, he's Don's cousin. Don says he's just what we need for security for the Coruscant load.
Have you met him yet?
Yeah, he came in from Concord Dawn hours ago. We're talking over drinks now. Vee's face broke out into another smile at Sven. I think he may be just what we need.
I'm going to put you on hold a second, H'rel.
Vee frowned suddenly, sitting up. She lifted her booted foot to nudge Sven gently in the knee. Hey, you don't have anything bad in your record, do you? I think Jeev is searching your name now.
