4156 BBY...
It was a slow day in the space above Alderaan. Not a lot of traffic coming to or from the planet in any sense of the word "lot"; at most, two transports full of refugees from Onderon, where the "Beast Wars" (as the HoloNet had taken to calling them) started to really heat up once again. The conflict had been going for over three centuries now, and refugees were still a common sight. So common, in fact, that Alderaanian traffic controllers almost didn't take notice anymore.
But they were about to.
An arc of lightning flashed across space, with a sensory reading coinciding with it to prove without a doubt that it was not a trick of the eyes or faulty satellite equipment. Another arc flashed, and then another, and before long several were appearing at once, all of them growing shorter in length and coming closer together, firing at far greater frequencies. A bright sphere formed, blinding in its brilliance, shooting bolts of electricity left and right before finally racing towards the planet at breakneck speed without taking any time to accelerate. It did, however, decelerate, quickly losing speed until it finally became no faster than any ship traveling at a cruising sublight speed. The bright white sphere dissipated then, peeling away and fizzling out to reveal a ship that nobody on Alderaan had ever seen before. On the face of it, the mystery vessel looked vaguely Corellian. But it had three massive guns on three sides, and a strange, copper-colored vent on the underside. Further, it had metal ribs lining the fuselage that certainly weren't part of the stock design.
The people on the ground were just about ready to scramble the fighters when it hailed them. With no small amount of hesitation, they picked up.
Uh...hello. This is Alderaan Air Control, who are you?
A voice answered back almost immediately.
"Hello! I'm Professor Jecib Milnik, I'm supposed to meet with the university administrator today?"
The records were checked. Sure enough, there was a ship scheduled to be in from Mon Calamari carrying one Jecib Milnik. But that had been two days ago.
Professor Milnik, you're late. Dac confirmed you had departed as scheduled not long ago, what happened?
A pause, followed by a chuckle.
"Oh, just a slight hiccup with the relativity shield. All is well."
And as the ship was given clearance to land at the University of Alderaan, Professor Milnik switched on the autopilot, closed his large red eyes, took a deep breath, and smiled.
All, at last, was well.

Dropping out of hyperspace, a bulk freighter slowly enters Alderaans upper atmosphere...signaling to those below that it is here for trade, it slowly lowers to the surface...

The Whitecloak fighter rose up into the orbit of Alderaan as Zacaiah entered in the co-ordinates for Honoghr, whilst the hyperdrive engine steadily warmed up. As the Whitecloak reached the edge of the planet's gravity well, she hoped that this next destination would yield far better results then Alderaan. She then engaged the hyperdrive and the Whitecloak Fighter disappeared in a flash of white light

At the furthest edge of the system a Firespray baring the markings of Aliit Ordo exited hyperspace. It was using this area as a staging area for its launch into the Kuat system. It hoped to remain undetected.

Without notice, the Firespray jumps to hyperspace.

*A VCX-700 heavy courier, painted deep midnight blue with a silver Phoenix painted on its hull, exited hyperspace, the beautiful and picturesque view of the planet of Alderaan from space sprawled out in front of it.*
*Stanryk beamed brightly to himself as he whispered, staring at the sight from the viewing deck*
"Ah Alderaan atlast! How I have missed you...."
*He transmitted his identification and landing request to the Alderaan spaceport. The ship entered into a trajectory towards the planet, its engines roaring away silently in the void of space.*

Dropping out of hyperspace is a Lambda Class Shuttle. The crew consists of one Light Sided Shadow trooper, one HK-51 Droid, and Master Fenris' ground forces commander, General Folely. The pilot, Capt. Fendish, eases the ship back and transmits the id signature of the shuttle to the docking authorities. Once completed, they proceed toward the planet and enter into a pole-pole orbit. They make one complete orbit, before descending in the atmosphere vectoring toward the southern hemisphere.

Region: Core Worlds Sector: Alderaan sector System: Alderaan system Planet: Alderaan The Civilian Transport burst forth from hyperspace as it's hyperspace engine wound down and the ship reverted over to it's sublight engines as it headed towards Alderaan. As the Civilian Transport headed for the planet, the Imperial Dropship Transport, which had refuelled on the trip over, darted out of a hangar bay and made it's way towards Alderaan's moon. Meta Team was safely aboard, inside the sealed troop bay watching the holo screen as the Dropship headed towards the moon, before angling around the moon, as the bow of the Arc Hammer class Factory Ship known as The Skybreaker came into view. As the Imperial Dropship continued around the moon, the rest of The Skybreaker came into view along with the current XJ X-wings that were flying patrol's around the ship. Ethan had heard there was several other facilities like it, traversing the Galaxy in secret, training and deploying troops from various programs, most of which had resulted in some sort of short coming. Although it was true the programs could be considered failures, There was still a profit to be made from using their services as mercinaries, whilst The Skybreaker was working on a project that addressed the shortcomings of each of the individual programs. The final members of Meta Team had successfully beaten out the other 144 applicants to the project, most of whom had never gotten past the initial stages of training aboard The Skybreaker itself. The mission to Maramere had marked the completion of the non training deployement tests of a Meta Team, just another part of fixing the shortcomings in the individual programs. Where the other programs had been handed all their equipment from the get go, Meta Team had been forced to earn their ARDs and WESTAR-M5 blaster rifle's, whilst having to acquire the rest of their gear from outside sources. It seemed extereme, but there was reason behind it, by being forced to earn and acquire everything, they had more respect for what they had, and trained more diligently with it. Everything they had done, was all apart of their training, and had a purpose towards preparing them for proper deployement and proving the merits of the Meta Team project. The Imperial Dropship continued to move closer to The Skybreaker, causing the holoscreen to be filled with the side of the ship as the Dropship angled for one of the hangar bays between the two towers that effectively hung from the disk. The holoscreen shut off as the Dropship entered the hangar bay and landed in it's assigned spot, before the side doors receeded up into the roof of the troop bay, allowing Meta Team to exit the ship. The Colonel was already there waiting for them, dressed in his usualy khaki pants and blue singlet with his FWG-5 flechette pistol holstered on his left calf, his face as hard to read as ever, since the man never betrayed any emotion. Meta Team formed up in front of him, as they usually did after returning from a mission, so they could be debriefedWelcome back to The Skybreaker Boys and Girls. We have a lot to discuss, but first, how did the mission to Maramere go Corporal? The mission was a success sir. Following several days of recon, We approached the Visceral Towers under cover of night via Dropship. The ARDs deployed first and secured the landing pad, before the Lance Corporals and myself rapelled down. We then proceeded down to the Prozen Mining offices, at which point Lance Corporal Lexus Immersed herself and Lance Corporal Rylan along with their ARDs. Lance Corporal Rylan and his ARD, known as Blaze, made their way into the office and hacked the security system. With the security systems taken care of, we proceeded through the offices to Prozen's office, where Lance Corporal Rylan proceeded to crack the safe. Although it was an analog safe, with stand alone internal security systems, we were prepared for the situation, and managed to extract the Crystals, before using a thermal detonator to blast a hole in the office window and use our ARDs to launch ourselves onto the Dropship and make our escape. Lance Corporal Lexus Immersed the Dropship and her ARD, Aqua, used it's jamming system to assist our get away. It's good to see you lot are showing initiative by analyzing a situation and looking for any potential problems. Now to business... Whilst you were busy carrying out your latest mission, Orders came through from higher up, terminating the Meta Team Project and all contributing Programs. We were told to shut down and detain you lot upon your return. With the Republic and Empire claiming their stakes in the Galaxy, The higher up's were too damn nervous to let these programs continue running, so when they work out which side they are throwing in their lot with, they intend to hand all the operatives over as a way to curry favour...Those gutless swine!Drew! It's fine Corporal. Frankly I happen to agree with the Lance Corporal. You lot are too damn valuable to just hand over, so some politicians can crucify you for their own gain. A fact all of my fellow program leaders agree with, so much so, some of them urged towards a coup. Which, whilst very inticing, would have resulted in failure, for a number of reasons. Thankfully we settled on a much less stupid idea. From this moment forth, The Skybreaker will be operating solo, the rest of the crew knows this, and all have agreed to stay aboard. All the programs have agreed to provide us with what ever supplies we can gather from their ships, so that we can maintain ourselves long enough to find a backer. Ultimately, the decision to go ahead is yours. This is not some test, nor is it that there is a problem with the project, this is really happening. So what do you say soldiers? you have my permission to speak freely...I'm in. Me and Shadow would rather die on the battle field, then in some prison cell...Me and Blaze were both born free, so we'll die free.I didn't join this program to be some politicians favour token. Me and Aqua will fight. The Colonel nodded in approval as Drew, Rylan, and Aqua all gave their approval to follow through with the plan, something he had been certain they would all do. Of the 148 applicants, these 4 were all that remained, the only 4 tough enough to stand up to the pressures that the Meta Team Project put them through, and would have put others through. He knew them well, each of them with their own history, with their own reason for wanting to join this program and prove something different, and right now they all had a chance. The Colonel then walked up to Ethan, having noticed the Corporal had not yet given his response as to whether he would sign on or not, but he was determined to get an answerWell, that makes six of you. What about you Ethan? You still up for leading this Meta Team? or is it too far beneath you? Are you gunna let your brothers and sisters go it alone? Speak up marine!I've worked too damn hard to keep them alive, just to walk away now. This whole thing smells of bantha fodder sir, but life never deals a fair hand, we just need to bluff the competition. My thoughts exactly. Saddle up, we're going on a field trip to the Omega Program. The Colonel then turned around and lead Meta Team through The Skybreaker, to it's bridge, where the crew were busy making the preparations for their depature as the last of the X-wings docked. Hyperspace co-ordinates had already been set for the location of the Omega program's Arc Hammer class Factory Ship, named The Skyfire, which was currently being displayed on a holo display on the bridge. Meta Team gathered around the display as The Skybreaker began to fire up it's engines and move free of Alderaan's gravity well, moving them far enough away so that they could engage the Hyperdrive and make the jump to hyperspace

This post is a part of the Shard of Alderaan closed RP.Space flickered a moment before a flash of light signalled the arrival of the small shuttle that transported a pair of Sith Lords in disguise. Alderaan was little more than an asteroid field now, shattered by the power of the Death Star some years prior, and the field still whispered with the screams of the billions that had been killed along with the planet. Here and there, a few ships could be seen jetting through the planet's remains for various reasons - some making the pilgrimage some Alderaanians sought to their homeworld, others acting as a safeguard against piracy or other desecrators of the planet's ghost.
Still others were mining vessels, having arranged a deal with the protectors of the planet to mine some of the precious metals and other valuables turned up in the remnants of the planet's crust, and it was to one of those mines that the shuttle was bound.
At the controls of the shuttle sat Darth Archais, changed from his usual attire to a simple combat jumpsuit that could easily serve as casualwear. His follower Kruor was also aboard the ship, and Archais had instructed him to see to his disguise. The call had come forth several standard days prior that some manner of distress call had come from one of the deeper mines, and that the foremen had thought the situation dire enough to warrant Jedi investigation. Their intelligence network had plucked the call first, though, and despite the lack of clarity on just what the situation was, Archais had felt an inescapable pull to the system. Now, they were to pose as those investigating Jedi. There was a ping at the console, and Archais keyed the mic to respond."Alderaan Remnant mining outpost DX-1040, this is the Starbird, transport of Jedi Master Shedrak Garl and Jedi apprentice Dural. We have arrived at the orders of the Council to respond to your distress call." There was a burst of static, but after a moment the signal cleared and a voice came through in response.Ah, yes, thank you for your timely arrival. I don't have much I can say regarding the distress signal but from what I hear it's a strange situation at the least. We are having some difficulty verifying your signal, Starbird, any ideas why?"Are you surprised, with all this debris? Probably just signal interference, we'll gladly provide our credentials in person." Roger that, Starbird. Sending docking coordinates now. DX-1040 out.Responding to the pinged coordinates, Archais piloted the shuttle to the assigned docking berth and set the ship to cooldown. He toggled a few settings to keep the ship prepped for a cold-fire getaway should the need arise, but felt confident such wouldn't be necessary.
At last, he rose from his seat and turned to face Kruor as he shouldered his bag and hung his lightsaber at his hip."Well then, Master Garl, shall we see to the commotion?"

This post is a part of the Shard of Alderaan closed RP.Returning to the known galaxy was kind of nice. Jedi Knight Altus Dux had been busy flying around in his starfighter, keeping himself out of trouble and staying as far away from the known sectors of the galaxy as possible. He was exploring his own way outside of it but the draw to return was too strong. The young Jedi Knight found himself missing his friends that he had made but when he made his way back, he found that nothing remained of his old life. The people he knew were gone or dead or Force knows what. So he decided that he would make a journey he hadn't done in a very long time and that brought him where he was now.
The silver Incom T65 X-Wing stayed in orbit as Altus watched the planet - or rather rubble - of his former home float through space. It called to him like a dying whisper on the wind. He swore he could still hear the screams of the dying upon this world. But that was impossible. Alderaan, home of his ancestors, was gone and everything had gone with it. He stared at the mess of asteroids left in its place when his holocomm crackled to life. Remnants of the distress signal sent up earlier had cycled through Jedi communications and finally made it to him. No wonder the Force had guided his steps up until his moment. He was meant to return home to rescue.
Rescue... what, exactly? People were trapped here by something. He noted a Jedi vessel in the vicinity and he cleared his throat. "ArrFive, can you open communications up?" The little green R5 droid whistled an affirmative and the console sent a signal out towards the other vessel. This is Jedi Knight Altus Dux. Need a hand, friends? Hopefully, they would pick up the communications and he'd be able to assist. It had been too long since the last rescue operation Altus had been a part of.

For the entirety of the landing process, Kruor had been busy readying his disguise. In the long stretch of inactivity he'd suffered, the Kissai had almost forgotten that the appearance of a near-Pureblood Sith would be... problematic, to say the least. By the time the "Starbird" had landed, the Sith had donned an elaborate, if not restricting, facial apparatus that successfully emulated the appearance of a Kel'Dor's antiox breath mask. In place of his traditional black garb, this disguise called for the thick, brown robes of a respected Jedi Master. The disguised Sith was busy clipping a lightsaber to the underside of his robes when his master - for the moment, his apprentice - turned to face him."Well then, Master Garl, shall we see to the commotion?"Kruor opened his mouth to reply before realizing that the faux breath mask was more restrictive than he or his master had anticipated. Unable to move his lips sufficiently, what emerged from the Sith's mouth was little more than a muffled grunt. With a sigh, the Kissai bowed his head, donned a pair of flight goggles, and raised the brown wool hood to cover his bare head.Next time, I'm a Mandalorian.Kruor moved to disengage the blast doors to the ship and disembark before being interrupted by a chirping on the center console. Static crackled for a moment before giving way to an unfamiliar voice:This is Jedi Knight Altus Dux. Need a hand, friends?Kruor turned his head to his master while his fist reflexively clenched at his side.

Archais's eyes instinctively hardened as the comm chirped with the communication. An actual Jedi, now of all times? Fortuitously, it seemed to be a lone one, and if the ripple he left in the Force was an indication, one that could be bested by a pair of Sith were the trap sprung properly. For now, though, it would hardly do to be anything but welcoming, so he responded via comm.
"Fellow Knight Dux, your arrival is most timely. I am apprentice Dural. My master and I were dispatched to respond to the call for aid here, but if you would care to join us in our search we would welcome the help. We're to meet the mine administrator in the facility's shuttle bay near our location. Dock and report to us, if you would."
He killed the comm without waiting for a response and pocketed the comlink. He thought hard, rifling through scenarios where the Jedi could be dispatched without drawing attention or arousing the suspicion of the Jedi at large. True, they'd made moves already that would undoubtedly reveal their existence, but it was still too soon for a true confrontation with the Jedi. That time needed to be chosen with the utmost care, and a decisive blow dealt only when the Sith were ready.
He turned to Kruor and spoke as the shuttle's exit door prepared to open.
"We wait to kill him until we ascertain the nature of the threat. Tread carefully."
As the door hissed open, the glare in his eyes evaporated to leave little but a bright, if distant, gaze more appropriate to his role as a padawan learner. The pair moved down the gantry into the bay proper and awaited the arrival of their "compatriot."

My master and I were dispatched to respond to the call for aid here, but if you would care to join us in our search we would welcome the help. We're to meet the mine administrator in the facility's shuttle bay near our location. Dock and report to us, if you would." Alt was enthused at the fact that he was greeted so readily by the Jedi. It pointed to the fact that they were probably not going to be too annoyed of a Jedi showing up. The apprentice's short demand made him smile. He remembered when he was headstrong, thinking he could conquer the galaxy as a padawan. Ah, many years had passed since then and Altus felt like he was aging faster than one should. He snapped out of his reverie and R5 chirped an affirmative as they headed down towards the remains of the former planet. The location showed up on his map and he easily guided the craft towards its landing. The landing gear hissed out and he touched down without a hitch. He got out of the hatch of the X-Wing as there were ladders pushed towards him. He waved them off before jumping out of the cockpit and gracefully landing like a cat on the ground. Okay, so sometimes he liked to show off. It helped the whole Jedi routine. He fixed the lightsabers fixed to his belt as well as the lightwhip hanging there. Remnants of his past. Striding towards the two figures nearby, he hailed them with the wave of his hand.
"You must be Dural and his master. I am Jedi Knight Altus Dux." He bowed respectfully before he noticed the man heading in their direction. He was a portly grizzled human with a face that seemed stretched because of his size. The large administrator wiped his face with a cloth before clearing his throat. "You must be the Jedi. Good, good. Finally having someone here to help clean up this mess is a relief. The last few weeks have been hell. Miners have been reported missing and at an increasing rate. We don't know what's going on down there but every rescue team we've attempted hasn't returned. There's noises deep in the mines and my men don't want to mine anymore. There's even reports of movement and people but every contact we've tried hasn't been replied to. We could use you on this one." Altus watched the sweaty Administrator with some concern. "That is definitely a cause for worry, Administrator. Don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of this in no time. Trust the Force on this one." He smiled and the fat male seemed to be appeased by his statement. That's when he heard the strange inhuman howling coming from outside the hangar. The administator stiffened and Altus' lightsaber jumped to his hand. It ignited in a snap-hiss of silver and white hues. Something was out there and Altus was going to find out just what.

Kruor stood with Archais near the center of the hanger, several meters away from their small shuttle. There was tension in the air - docking crews and maintenance workers shuffled around at a hurried pace. The Kissai cautiously probed out with the Force, careful to use a certain amount of finesse while examining their minds. The presence of the Dark Side would be a beacon to a well trained Jedi. Kruor was confident that the training Archais had put him through left him capable enough to mask this presence, however. With each passing organic, the Sith felt ripples of fear and anxiety. Tempting as it was, he knew it best not to feed off this energy. For now, he was merely an observer.
Kruor and Archais watched with earnest as an X-Wing touched down nearby. The Kissai couldn't help to chuckle as the pilot emerged with a flourish - everything from the spring in his step to the enthusiasm on his face confirmed that this was, in fact, the Jedi who had contacted them just moments before. As the man approached, Kruor was careful to withdraw his Force presence from the hanger. As his master had indicated, caution was the route to take. The Jedi waved his hand at the pair, none the wiser to their veiled identities.
"You must be Dural and his master. I am Jedi Knight Altus Dux."
Altus Dux? This wasn't a name that the Sith was familiar with. Kruor took this point as an indication that this was no immediate threat - in all likelihood, the Jedi had never been in the presence of either of the Sith. This would make concealing their true nature that much easier. The Jedi bowed to the pair - Kruor was pleased at the immediate deference. His initial fear of a Jedi complicating matters was quickly dissipating. This one may prove useful.
As Kruor took a bow himself, feeling the heavy wool cloak ripple across his form, he felt the presence of another life form approaching from beyond them.
Good, he thought, I won't have to attempt speech.
The human approached the trio with gusto, carrying with him the stench of sweat and heavy step of corpulence and cowardice. Always a winning combination.
We could use you on this one."
Kruor turned to face the administrator, motioning with his hand for his "apprentice" to introduce themselves. Before Archais could speak, however, the faint echoes of howling reached his ears. A wave of anxious energy washed over the hanger, culminating in the Jedi reflexively igniting his lightsaber. A bold move that indicated familiarity and ease with combat. This Altus Dux wasn't a diplomat - that much was certain. The Jedi spoke reassuringly to the visibly petrified administrator.
"That is definitely a cause for worry, Administrator. Don't worry, we'll get to the bottom of this in no time. Trust the Force on this one."
Kruor nodded, gesturing toward the direction of the sound. One hand casually unhooked the lightsaber from his belt - as was routine for these kinds of missions, his standard red saber and Sith sword had been abandoned in favor of a lightsaber that had been acquired during a previous mission. Even if the Jedi who had wielded it was still living, her lack of limbs would certainly make using her weapon difficult.

Archais listened as Dux introduced himself, then quickly lit his lightsaber. For a moment he had to fight inwardly to keep his alarm from leaking into the ambient pulse of the room, but his fear at the Jedi having so quickly found them out was ill-founded as it seemed to instead be a show of bravado and gusto. He settled into an easy smile and answered Kruor's gesture with a slight bow to the group before speaking.
"A pleasure, Knight Dux. This is Jedi Master Shedrak Garl, and I am his apprentice Dural. Pardon his gruffness - his style of teaching can seem rude outwardly, be he prefers to let his apprentice be the point of contact for others that I might learn what he refers to as 'proper diplomacy.'"
He listened too as the administrator explained the situation, carefully noting the measure of controlled fear that seeped from the man like an odor. He wasn't letting on everything he knew, that much was certain, though it was difficult to ascertain what that missing fact could be. A mine like this would house hundreds, or possibly a thousand, workers, and deaths in such a poorly-controlled environment were hardly worth a distress signal. Still, disappearances would make others uneasy, he supposed.
Archais nodded in time with Kruor, giving the impression the two were in concord, and spoke again as the faux master gestured deeper into the mine.
"Your trust is wise, Altus. You seem to be the best-versed in combat of the three of us - if you would, please, lead on."
**********************************************************************************************************************************************
An hour later, the trio of Force-users had entered the mine proper. Gone were the lights and the barely-scrubbed breaths of air. Here, an occasional crack was heard in the distance as rock shifted, but otherwise the mine was deathly silent. Archais kept his senses sharp, his gaze darting around every corner as the group progressed.
After some time, he spotted a figure lying prone on the rough ground of the shaft, and summoned the other two to the body. Already he could feel in the Force that the fellow was dead, and upon grabbing his shoulder to flip him over he had to bite down on a reflexive wave of revulsion.
Gone were the being's eyes, cheeks, and lips. No visible energy-based damage, so this had done either by weapon or by hand, and given the ragged edges of flesh, he had to assume the latter. His face was covered in blood, and a quick look down at the gaping hole where his throat had been confirmed the cause of death. Whether it had happened prior to the fellow having his face ravaged was a matter of speculation, however.
The man's blood had pooled in the dirt, and based on the relative viscosity the attack had occurred scarcely twelve hours earlier - long enough for it to start drying, but a quick finger-tap on the ground brought a thin film of red and brown with it. Still liquid, no longer warm. A trail led into an adjoining shaft, a red smear that indicated either that he had dragged himself from that direction or that whomever - or whatever - had done this had left that way. He cast his gaze to Dux and Kruor, and for Dux's benefit, put on an air of mental anguish.
"I...I don't know what to make of this, but the trail leads into the next shaft. What do you make of this?"

------- Altus followed his new-found companions into the mining shaft. He too had some unease at all of this, even if he had calmed down the administrator with his words. This place had an eerie sense to it and he couldn't help think that there was something more to all of this. His Jedi senses were tingling and there was something at the back of his mind prickling. It was strange being on the rock that was all that remained of Alderaan. His home, reduced to rubble and scrap. It was like time had come to a standstill and this was what remained. He watched as the apprentice moved to turn over the body. That was never a good sign. What they discovered made Altus gag a little. He too had seen war and bloodshed before but this worker had gotten his face literally ripped right off. He had never seen anything so grotesque or animalistic before. Something either tore or ate his face off. It was like the beginning of a bad holoflick. Altus swung his silver-white lightsaber through the darkness, lighting it up somewhat. The lights on the sides of the tunnels flickered as he gazed deeper and glanced at the apprentice as he spoke. His gaze hardened as the young Jedi mused about his next choice. From here on out, they had to be cautious. He tightened his grip on his lightsaber as he thought. "I...I don't know what to make of this, but the trail leads into the next shaft. What do you make of this?" "I would say that something violent and rabid did this. I've heard of monsters doing horrible things but not this... perhaps... Ashla be good, I hope it isn't Rakhgouls." The thought made him shudder, although Rakhghouls were just a name to frighten off children in the dark. Altus' own mother had told him about them in order to keep him from straying too far in the dark. Nightmarish creatures said to infect and devour their prey, spreading like a virus. Altus was sure that this was not the case and that the creatures were not in fact here. At least, he hoped so. He was about to say something more when he heard a rustling and a snarl as three creatures rushed out of the darkened entrance.
They looked humanoid in form but their skin was pale and seemed to almost rot and fall off their bodies in places. Their eyes were dead with no light of life to them and their gait was rapid sliding motions. It was as if all motor functions had continued while the life had left. Their hands were bloodied and crimson dripped from their mouths. One held a mutilated arm in its hand. Altus had enough time to decipher that the clothes they were wearing matched the ones on the body they had found. These were the miners that seemed to have something happen to them. He wondered if there was any way to save them. That thought quickly vanished from his mind as the foremost corrupted miner charged him and he was forced to bring his lightsaber to bear. He moved towards it, holding his lightsaber in the Djem So form and swung with a hard down stroke, aiming to incapacitate and remove a limb. Jedi were not supposed to kill unless last resort. This was perhaps an exception.

Archais snapped his head to the right as the three mutiliated beings shambled towards them. They were grotesque in appearance - clearly human, but bearing injuries that would be debilitating to a normal, rational sentient. The three were covered in blood, the first moreso as Dux's lightsaber flashed through a bicep and removed the arm from the shoulder down. It growled and continued the fight undaunted, but his focus was shaken as the remaining two parted from their compatriot and started toward he and Kruor.
He knew he couldn't use his lightsaber, as its red blade would only arouse inconvenient questions from Dux. Instead, he drew his hip-holstered DL-44 with his left hand and fired a pair of bolts for the eyes of the trailing being, at least blinding it as it spun away with an inhuman shriek. The former, though, was nearly upon him, throwing a vicious slash with its clawed fingers with a scream to match its wounded partner. Archais let his hidden knife fall into his right hand in a reverse grip, swiping up and to the left to remove the offending hand and reversing the stroke to plunge the knife into the creature's throat. He released it, spinning past the monster's follow-up strike with its remaining hand, then continued his circle to bring him behind it. His same hand reached for the knife as he came back around, using Force-amplified strength to simply rip it out of the monster's neck and through half the creature's neck as the blade came free with a spray of gore, neatly beheading it and sending the body collapsing to the floor as his completed circle left him facing the blinded one with his blaster raised.
Five short blasts felled the raging monster with a surgeon's bolts to the throat, chest, two to the head, and a final one to the mouth to send the corpse flying backward and ensuring none of the foul liquid that came from its wounds sprayed toward the party.
He holstered the blaster neatly and tucked the knife back into his sleeve, before realizing with a start that he'd reflexively fallen into his training as an assassin and out of the expected prowess of a Jedi apprentice, who most likely wouldn't be trained in knife combat or precision small-arms fire. He turned to the group with a sheepish grin as he indicated they should move in the direction the creatures had come from.
"Master always says I need to work on my diplomacy, heh."

In the amount of time that it took Kruor to contain his reflexive urge to eliminate the three shambling creatures with a few calculated torrents of Force Lightning, his master and the Jedi had already made quick work of the former miners. It was truly a sight to watch years of rigorous training as an assassin culminate in cold, methodical killing strokes. Kruor was familiar with his master's brutal execution methods - yet another reason that drew the young Sith Lord under Archais' influence. Every bout of combat he witnessed his master complete was another lesson for Kruor.
"Master always says I need to work on my diplomacy, heh."
Staying true to character, Kruor fell into a brisk walk, patting Archais on the shoulder as he passed. He urged his companions to follow him to the source of the creatures, carefully following a trail of blood splatters and mutilated body parts that littered the tunnel. As he continued, making a few sharp turns down paths leading off from the main tunnel, Kruor noticed the rock walls shift from a relatively uniform mining pattern to a more haphazard, jagged one. Obviously, these tunnels were much more fresh. More confirmation was added as the trio passed several mutilated corpses who seemed to have been carrying packs of ore and rock that must have been cleared out from the tunnels ahead.
Kruor paused at one of these scenes, letting the Force reach out ahead in an effort to discern any threats. Just as the realization struck him, Kruor heard a chaotic howl that seemed to reverberate through every tunnel of the mine. This was quickly accompanied by the sounds of boots scraping and stomping on the tunnel floor. Kruor's body reflexively tensed - the Sith unclipped the lightsaber from his belt. Within seconds, the threat presented itself as a rabid miner lunged from the darkness ahead.
In a flash of blue-green light and the familiar snaphiss of an activated saber, the miner found itself cleaved in two. The remnants of the creature lied in two heaps at the Sith's feet, still glowing from the cauterization of his lightsaber blade. He deactivated the lightsaber quickly, keeping the hilt in the clenched fist resting at his side.
It was at this moment that the Sith felt another presence emanating from further down the tunnel. Probing out with the Force, Kruor realized that this was not simply another rabid miner. No, this was... heavy. Thick. Like a tide, this energy seemed to ebb and flow as the seconds passed. There was no way of knowing how close the trio were to the source - at this point, Kruor could be nearly on top of the cause or simply feeling the echoes of its power. If these miners were any indication of what awaited the team, however, Kruor estimated that the source of this energy was extremely potent.
The faux Jedi master turned to his companions after a moment - locking eyes with Archais behind his goggles. He awaited some confirmation that the other two were feeling this energy as well.

Archais followed Kruor, trying to balance his natural wariness with the obsequiousness expected of a padawan learner. The Kissai-in-disguise used his lightsaber to dispatch another of the corrupted, and as the trio emerged through to the next chamber he felt a sudden wave of Force energy that was undoubtedly of the dark side. He clenched his teeth against the tide, feeling it set every nerve in his body to a sizzle as his grip tightened on his knife. It suddenly occurred to him that now would be a fine time to dispatch the Jedi - to simply slip the knife behind his right ear, to twist it down and out the back of the neck and cut the puppet's strings-
No. No. He shook his head. The last thing he could afford was to let his carefully-erected mask slip and allow the Jedi to escape with the knowledge that he and Kruor were not who they seemed. He made a show of feeling the effects of the nexus, willing himself to shiver, and began a deliberately one-sided conversation with Kruor.
"This...this is the dark side, Master. I feel it too."
He waited a beat, giving the impression the two were in some silent communion, fitting well into the look Kruor gave the pair.
"Yes, we must investigate. Let me grab my light..."
He reached into his rear pocket to grab his torchstick, a thin rod that contained a chemical pouch which, when broken, would light an area for long enough to sufficiently explore. He broke the center with a practiced clench of his fist, then tossed the now-hissing stick into the chasm ahead. A moment's sputtering, and white light suddenly burst from the stick's end-
-accompanied by scattered roars as the surrounding corrupted were roused.
There were perhaps thirty of them, though more could easily have rested in the corners of the dozen-meter-wide chamber. As one, they looked at the trio and began shambling forward, some at a shuffle with others at a dead sprint. They had mere seconds before the mob was upon him, and all Archais could think to say was "Oh." as he redrew his knife.
