looking at the man Grace's first impulse was to run. Fast. But she didn't. The Raven landed on her right shoulder. She felt no weight at all. If anything the creature straightened out her back and she responded -Grace- "Dia is muire dhuit." Then directing him into a seat they spoke. Boland walked towards the pair but stopped short going to the dog and little girl instead. Here he could get a play by play , word for word from the child. Not that he was nosey but the simple fact was that this woman's business effected them all. He paid no mind to the pair talking but he did talk to Maureen. They watched as Grace opened the latch giving the man a way to leave. Then she bolted to the washroom. Really eating the wrong type of food lately Grace, so he thought. He was taking a drink from the bottle in right hand when the child asked -Maureen- "Boland do you really think that Grace is up the stump?" Now it was Boland's turn to spit his drink all over the floor -Maureen- "And what does up the stump mean?" Exiting the restroom Grace walk over, sitting down. And she spoke -Grace- "Morrigan was killed in the fire fight last night. And the body blown to pieces after that." She fell silent and thanked the stars that no tidal wave of questions crashed row on her. They needed to know, just she wanted to word this all right but how? Looking at Maureen she knew. Talk honest but talk smart. And bad or good first? Always the bad so she'd been told. She was just confused as to what was bad and what was good in this particular situation -Grace- "We're filthy rich. Everything Morrigan had is now mine. O'Dubhui will help me." She looked around at her crew eyes pleading for a response but all were quiet -Grace- "Need to take care of some family business.... But again he said that he'd help me.... us." This was running nice she thought -Grace- " We need bury some people...." !and not surprisingly, that horrible affair was also met with silence. Great.... -Grace- "And I think I'm pregnant." And at that point Boland spoke -Boland- "What?" And a far more engaging, emotionally charged verbal exchange followed

And so it began. Two small boxes were set tender to the side. Bodies in bags were set with care behind. In the long trench bodies would be set, side by each. O'Dubhui and Slaughter arranged the area carefully. The soil in two piles at each side with a space standing in it. Table with a bottle of whiskey on it stood center and flowers all around it was set center, back two meters

And so she came. Boland walked with, his right hand holding her left. The Raven on her right shoulder was quiet. And all were thankful for That. Maureen walked with The hound behind. They all came to a stop at the South edge of the hole. Colonel O'Dubhui came up standing at the left of Grace and family. Slaughter went to the right. And men began laying bodies in their earthen bed. Plunkett went to rest at the center. And from him out the other bodies were set down, to the left and to the right. Some standing over the site saluted. Some wept. Some just stood and stared straight ahead. Grace had decided that She was saying little if anything. With all the bodies laid out, those gathered threw down all flowers from the table. O'Dubhui nodded to the soil. Grace stepped over, took the spade and tossed soil on the bodies below. The second tool was taken up by O'Dubhui and he too threw a spade full of soil down. Then a Tog taking a handful of soil cast it on the bodies. The floodgates opened as all available hands, in an orderly fashion, threw their own bit of soil down. And in that way the braves were filled. Grace looked down. Then to her side. Breathing deep she walked over. An Tiarna was laid down first, then Morrigan. The two were covered much more quickly. And it was over. Strange but fitting she thought, that empty feeling when a funeral ended. People were shaking her hand and she hadn't a clue why. But she accepted politely and thanked them. The little girl commented -Maureen- "Do they think that Grace greased them all?" And that was that. They walked slow back to the Utopic Vulture . And they slept. They slept the sleep of the dead. A small but notable cultural tradition, observed among those of An Tiarna's culture, was completely disregarded at this ceremony for the dead, namely, pregnant women are to never be near the dead for fear of the unborn child's soul being snatched, or replaced by those of the dead. Generally, this is not inspired by evil of good but rather confusion. No matter, for the creature settled on her shoulder laid to rest any fear of supernatural interference with the embryo growing in her stomach. Or more precisely, The Raven would lay them to waste

The boys stood and watched. Quietly. When the time came they tossed their share of soil on the bodies below. Respect. And they knew it. But their main concern was the Old man. And his granddaughter. After all was over they hung on over the grave of An Tiarna. So this was it? They paid there respects. An entire era had ended. A generation. Then they moved to Morrigan. The next generation. Gone. Gone.... They wondered. They they walked towards the freighter. Business awaited. Family business. Of course they knew that anything they did was liable. But they knew not what waited. They knew the bizarre crew of misfits. What they did not grasp was that here, on this little ship lie the future. And there right in front of the Utopic Vulture they stopped and stood. Waiting

Inside the Utopic Vulture sat our family of misfits. It was Grace who ventured to look out a window at the city beneath. And there stood the two Dubh boys. She hastily ran over hitting a button and the latch flew open. This time Boland, taking Maureen's little right hand he walked into the common area setting the girl down in a seat then took the one at her right side himself. The hound lumbering behind flopped down at her feet. Grace herself sat center with Boland to her right. They waited. The Raven did not perch high to observe, choosing to rest on the woman's blind side shoulder. Not a word said they waited

A strange feeling rose up from the left thigh of Colonel O'Dubhui. Straight away He thought it a sign that he was suffering a stroke. But he did not collapse to the ground and do the chicken, so no such luck. What he did do was first speak -Colonel O'Dubhui- "Gentlemen hold the fort." Turning left with an upward nor - Colonel O'Dubhui- "Slaughter. Come with me chappie." And with that he walked over where Kim and Laoch stood. Nodding politely O'Dubhui muttered -Colonel O'Dubhui- "Gentlemen." Both Slaughter and O'Dubhui saluted but forgoing any other formalities walked onto the ship, saluted to the woman and sat, Slaughter at the left side and himself the left

Much like the Old man, the pair knew respect. And much like the Old man both men hated pompous formalities. They found decorum had a place but people had a terrible tendency to confuse and pervert good taste into something that tasted like shite in your mouth. With that way of thinking in mind, the Men walked up the ramp, into the ship, nodding politely to all individually, even the damn dog and that bloody buzzard sitting on the women's shoulder, then taking a seat in front of Grace. Neither spoke

Maureen watched as the men came aboard. Kieran and Laoch! She knew them. Waving meekly she smiled. But everybody was quiet, so she said not a word. The hound smelled no threat and remained still at the child's feet. For now. If anybody moves on the girl - I take a piece outta them. And there's that fly again. He watched it but resisted snapping. Boland sat calm. As did The Raven. It came down to Grace. She spoke -Grace- "Good evening." Echoing a infamous unnamed woman from the celebrated annals of JvS history. Looking over the group she was thankfully familiar with all. She added quietly -Grace- "Two Dubh boys.... Good." Seeing the entirety of them hadn't even been offered a drink she stood - Grace- "Forgive me...." But Boland had already stood, walked away and returned with five flasks and a bottle. All served, the man walked away again, returning with another bottle, a drink he gave to the little girl and even a dish for the dog. The Raven went unserved but said nothing ,nor did he punish Boland. Yet. Returning to his seat, Grace nodded and sat with the comment to all -Grace- "We may want to watch; word has it some dude is afflicted with this dreaded hitcallatitis disease caused from doing a stretch of time in solitary confinement." Left hand waving that silliness aside she asked - Grace- "Where do I start?"

*Slaughter had done this dance before. Many times. Not always to the same music. And the band and conductor varied too. But the song always remained similar if not the same. This? This he thought was of particular interest because of the new lead. And he listened. Likewise, O'Dubhui, head down took in the words of what he believed was his new leader. Neither man missed the slight directed at outlandish powers that Just seemed to just materialize out of thin air

And there himself stood. The ancient Seanchai, Torna O'Maolchonaire. Bags in hands and pipe in mouth, those with small brains might take him for an old panhandler from the streets of one of the mega cities. He was the master. And he had come to hear the new leader. So he sat. The scribes, Sean and Eoin, and yes - in Standard those both translate as John, generally tasked to write whatever fell from his lips, sat behind, taking down everything. Torna dropp ing to knees gentle took Grace's right hand and kissed it saying -Torna O'Maolchonaire - "Mo Thiarna" Any familiar with the language that these people spoke would understand his deliberate use of the word tiarna, or lord as opposed to bean meaning lady. An attempt to address people in an manner free of sexism was a move in the right direction. And right behind him stood the Seanchai, Aogan O'Rathallie. He too went down to his knees -Aogan O'Rathallie- "Mo Thiarna." The eight women Druidesses covered in tattoos And nothing else followed and they too went to knees, heads hung low And said -Druidesses- "Mo Thiarna. Mo Thiarna. No Thiarna. Mo Thiarna. Mo Thi?arna. Mo Thiarna. Mo Thiarna. Mo Thiarna." Only two of Torna's ten man Togorian Commando guard boarded the ship. The rest waited outside. The two soldiers, after doing a through routine search of the ship also dropped to their knees in front of Grace chanting -Togorian Commando- "Mo Thiarna!!! Mo Thiarna!!!"

*Sergeant Slaughter owned a fast mind and as consequence realized his error before O'Maolchonaire spoke and was himself on knees, right fist held high and swore -Sgt Slaughter- "Mo Thiarna!!!" The colonel sat watching, mesmerized by the spontaneous displays of recognition. This was monumental. But he to was swept up in the occasion and falling to his knees said "Mo Thiarna, Grainne Mhaol. Mo Thiarna!"

Boland, having been born and raised in same the culture as O'Maolchonaire, O'Rathallie and Grace, not to mention An Tiarna himself, knelt down in front of Grace saying -Boland- "No Thiarna, Grainne Mhaol..." Maureen too knelt with these words - Maureen- "Mo Thiarna!" Then quietly asked - Maureen- "Boland, is Grace God now?" Boland holding back a laugh replied - Boland- "No honey but close." To this the little girl asked - Maureen- " What now?" And the man told her -Boland- "Just be yourself." Grace allowed the whole ceremony to play out before standing -Grace- "Go raibh maith agaibh." Eyes sweeping her people she added -Grace- " Sit, please..." Boland sat as did Maureen. And all others followed suit.

And as they sat Slaughter began work on numbers. He kept track of everything. Carefully. Number of troops. Guns available for troops. Rounds available for guns. And so on and so forth down the line.... Numbers. The colonel commented -Colonel O'Dubhui- "Funny thing about numbers sergeant.... We always did better when our numbers were few." The sergeant stopped to ponder the comment as O'Dubhui continued -Colonel O'Dubhui- "And because of the meticulous count he kept of everything." Sgt Slaughter nodded in agreementwentbusied and returned to his work. But O'Dubhui relentlessly persisted and turning to the here and now - Colonel O'Dubhui- "Here's a funny Sergeant: imagine if we sent the Buzzard and the little girl to talk with these idiots." After a long silence the Men broke out laughing. And they laughed. Then they laughed some more. Calming they both put their minds into work.

A fog had settled down over Juvex City and a full moon shone a bright yellow. Perfect setting and time for the telling of Fenian tales.... Chairs were set up outside a troop transport ship in a half circle . Out walked the two seasoned Elders, the Sean chai, Aogan O'Rathallie. The latter took a seat at the right of a small table set just left of the heart of the setting, Torna O'Maolchonaire sat at the other side of the table. The pair were set to tell speak.... But first O'Maolchonaire looked to the crowd massed around him, growing bigger as the news of their presence traveled via word of mouth. Word of mouth.... That being uniquely ironic, these being legends of the oral tradition, but past that an interesting mixture of boredom and good whiskey inspired them both. And speaking of the latter, one of the ancient storytellers looked out on the crowd inquiring -Torna O'Maolchonaire- "Uische beatha?" And almost immediately a fresh bottle was produced, opened and set on the table at that separated the two. Both were poured drinks. Lighting pipe, O'Maolchonaire nodded politely saying - Torna O'Maolchonaire- "Go raibh maith mile agat." Left hand scratching head the old man exhaled hard and said -Torna O'Maolchonaire- "And in the beginning We had Ye Days of FB.... Ouch." But he waited

And out she strolled, Grainne Mhaol, An Thiarna now, taking her rightful seat at center of the gathering. The Raven sat perched on her left shoulder. The pair of Sean chai were now on her Sinister side. Boland, now Taoiseach Catha, or Battle Chieftain, followed two paces behind The Lord and took his place at her Dexter side. Maureen ran out last with The hound and took to playing a few meters away from the group. Boland waved a right hand and the little girl ran over taking her seat at hisright. The hound laid down in front of his friend Maureen. Togorian Commando could be seen stalking the area around them and three walking among the crowd. Some familiar faces were there but he noticed a healthy number of curious Juvexians too. Good he thought. The Togs diligently checked all for weapons but natives faced no restrictions to the gathering; they were encouraged to join in the celebration. Clearing her voice Grace spoke -An Tiarna Grainne Mhaol- "Let it begin." And so it did, just not quite like she expected

Both of the Elders sat ready to speak. All they waited for was the word, which was given by Grace. With a nod Torna spoke -Torna O'Maolchonaire- "Maith go leor!" And with that he began weaving his tale....

Now having dragged the crew of Sean chi, Dubh family ersand IF officers onto the Utopic Vulture, Grace rooted through the belongings of Morrigan. Tenderly. It was a cornucopia. Among the many treasures she found 3 unique Crystals of note, which she set delicately aside. The Child blurted out -Maureen- "Those mean Life." Grace nodded but said nothing. Boland, handing a small relic for the girl to you with them put a finger to lips. She caught the gesture and went back to playing with The hound. We the lot of them tore into somebody else's life treasures The Raven sat on a high perch watching, half in disgust but half of him curious too. Meanwhile, as they violated the woman's private treasures, O'Rathallie sat in deep discussion with Torna O'Maolchonaire

Kieran wnd Laoch sat in the comforts of The Utopic Vulture overseeing the tape of their niece's personal effects. She wanted Grace to have them so they had no objection. Still Kieran found something strangely dishonorable in it all. Too invasive? Scratching head with left hand he looked at Grace. She was family and this was necessary. Who else would do it? Putting his reservations aside he watched. Laoch too was somewhat uneasy with the ritual but put his mind into playing with Maureen and her dog. Death he had directly caused. Many a time. Dito with disposing of corpses. And he had ripped apart the households of those he killed. How was this and different? This was fucking family. That's how he thought. But he put those thoughts aside. Cute kid; cute dog he thought

Grace stopped short at a point and leaned back as she flipped through a file, juggling between it a datapad and an archaic calculator -Grace- "Boland.... Look at this." The man took the mess from her. He too turned to the calculator. Cleaned out the IF banks on Manaan Morigan did. And apparently left them with full access; full control of said assets. Was still arresting to look at. Great business sense that lot of lunatics. And that girl knew exactly where to go in the middle of an invasion. He Wondered if she had Gramps' ashes by then or did this first. What a fuckin family.... Well he had his own family now, no matter of many of them calling Grace An Tiarna now or not. Sighed deep he hugged Grace. Maureen And The hound joined them. Watching the group hug The Raven felt like vomiting. Or electrifying Boland. Maybe both? But the Ageless deity simply stared And whilst Boland and Grace both tried to decipher if this was indeed good fortune or would it all collapse back to the nothing that they started with, Darius Rucker's Wagon Wheel played in the backdrop. Their story might suck but the musical taste surpassed all bounds of space and time

Torna sat quietly with Aogan, each smoking a pipe and about 6 shots back with half a bottle in front of them. One commented sharply -Aogan O'Rathallie- "We might wish not to become so mired in history past so tight that we lose sight of history as it unfolds before us." Torna nodded in agreement - Torna O'Maolchonaire- "Is ea a chara; would be a terrible mistake." And showing their steely commitment to that stance they sat on their asses, smoked, drank and observed.
