The idea of a gambling ssd, a floating Las Vegas, strikes me as hilarious, badass, and classly as all Hell. Impractical for violence, but still great.

I get credit for bringing up the ssd idea. The more we talk about it the more it starts to get better. Like it's run by and protected by pirates. Pimped out by the Exchange, we use it as a cover to war torn places so we can do naughty smash and grab opportunities and extortion, i.e. pay for protection, and pick the bones of the poor slubs who've survived. This is starting to become a beautiful idea.

As for 'how' the Exchange gets the ships. Beep could step up the raids on the admiral's forces (with his knowledge). & as a precaution, the Admiral hires (or buys, or builds) the ship that are decided on. Then they fly straight into one of beep's traps (maybe a massive ion pulse mine?). Faced with the loss the Admiral would have an IC reason not to bother sinking that much money into big ships again (unless we need to repeat later), while he is also being paid under the table for the ships, & after the trap the raids drop back to their previous levels.

Not really. Death Watch has a non-extradition treaty with the nobles. Unless DW does anything to violate said treaty no one can barge in and do anything. Not even the Republic. Ask Diamonte. Even Count Monte Demici has to honor(which I'm sure he and the Countess are still the ones in charge there). On top of it, Dred and the Countess have a very "special" arrangement. So, not really all that interesting.  |
