Alex looked up as Rutil Iorek approached. He felt something in him tensing - Jedi Knight Iorek was known for being pretty blunt and critical, and as tightly wound as everyone was feeling - himself included - the last thing they needed was some over-gruff, uptight, hard-headed Zabrak old crony breathing down the back of their neck.
Good in a scrap though. Old git's damned good in a scrap.
Suddenly, the Corporal found himself worried about Jedi mind-reading powers, and quickly focused himself back on the task at hand.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Uh... it's the Cat's Paw, belonging to a..."
He gave a glance to the Gand, prompting the name from the peculiar alien.
=Corporal Qyrig P'nhal= "Kirith Aridigo. Approved by Master Kor-taan about a week ago."
Alex gave a nod, turning back to the Zabrak Jedi.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Jedi Shan is apparently familiar with the owner, or at least the ship, and is inside. We were just about to head in and search. Just wanted to give him a minute in there first, to... uh... soften her up a bit."
The Corporal felt a bit foolish saying it, and wondered if the Zabrak would have even the slightest clue what that meant.

The old Zabrak's only change in facial expression was to raise a single silver eyebrow at the corporal. Did machines need softening up now? Was the Shan boy going to talk it down from a homicidal rampage? Perhaps oil down the ship's hyperdrive and massage its durasteel plates until they were good and pliable? If Aridigo's ship had kinks that needed to be worked out, then she should see to that herself. A ship did not need softening up. It did not need to be convinced, chatted up, or otherwise persuaded to allow access like some drunken Zeltron floozy. And even if it did - even if the universe had somehow grown so wild and alien that a YT-1300 could somehow develop sapience and be in need of softening up - Shan had to be the single least qualified person in the Praxeum to do it. After all, the presumably-aware ship would likely be identified as a female, given traditional spacer customs. And if that was the case, Caoimhin's candidacy was sent even further down the pecking order; if his ability to flirt with a woman was anything like his ability to fight one, odds are the poor boy was dead already.
If nothing else, the image that Rutil's mind produced would be plenty entertaining during the days to come.
"And if Master Kor-taan can vouch for Captain Aridigo, why are neither of them here for the...'softening'?"
While Rutil's voice rarely lost its gravelly tone, one could have almost felt the contempt dripping from the word he chose to end the sentence with.

The Corporal gestured into the ship with the barrel of his gun. He fought the urge to wince at the bitter contempt the Zabrak was showing, managing to hide the discomfort in his gesture.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "You'd have to ask Jedi Shan, sir. We deferred to his judgement. Our orders were to catalogue all the ships and their equipment, with specific instruction not to... uh... 'waste time' trying to chase down the owner when most non-Jedi or non-peacekeeping taskforce ship owners are already off planet. The ship doesn't seem to be so much dangerous as she does, umm... grouchy." There was a moment where a wry amusement tickled the marine, and it just about ebbed onto his face. "Sir."
Alex glanced up at the ship, and then back at the Jedi.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "We're going in, if you want to join us."
The Corporal suddenly felt as though his slip in formality might end up being a mistake - but it was entirely too late to make amends now.
Ah, to hell with it. If he want's to chew me out for following orders, then I'm not going to stop him by pussy footing around.

Rutil simply gave a firm nod in response. Frankly, the "softening up" idea was a crock of bantha crap, and the two soliders should have known that. At the very least, one of them should have gone to accompany Caoimhin. In spite of his progress and his unofficial status as a Padawan, the boy was still technically a prisoner of the Praxeum. What if the kid had one of his little mood swings? What if he blew open the hangar door and flew off? What if there was a threat on board the vessel that couldn't be detected by the usual means? Force forbid, what if he tried to use his new hand for non-celibate purposes?
The old Knight took but a single step onto the boarding ramp, striding right through the soldiers to do so, before turning his head upward and calling into the purple vessel.
"You have anything? Playtime's over."
Without waiting for a response, Rutil strode up the boarding ramp.

"It's not my business to get involved with whoever you've managed to piss off this time," came a mechanical voice throughout the ship as Rutil bordered the ramp. "If you so-called peace keepers with your glowing sticks of ship destruction were so peaceful, you wouldn't be having people desperately wanting you dead all the time. Ever think about that?"
The Cat didn't wait for a response, having noticed the new intruder.
"And who the hell is that. I don't recall giving you leave to enter me without my - or the captain's - permission. Dude who looks like Glowy Jawa Eyes, sure, but not you. Now I'm going to have to ask you to state your name and business, or I'm calling the Captain - and she will NOT be pleased to find you here."

Rutil had been around ships of this type before. In almost a century of fieldwork, the Zabrak had worked on several vessels for various reasons. Most memorably, he'd had to learn how to work with a ship's flight computer in order to troubleshoot software problems in flight. Most ships had been Corellian. And fortunately, Corellian vessels were all remarkably similar. When greeted by a ship computer that had an annoying voice and was simply in the way, it gave someone with a familiarity of Corellian ships a major advantage."And who the hell is that. I don't recall giving you leave to enter me witho-" Knowledge of a press-to-talk PA system."Cao, you have thirty seconds to explain yourself. Go." Rutil turned to face his apprentice, keeping an index finger firmly pressed on the button, keeping the electronic voice silent.

Oh hell, no.
The Cat had seen this trick before, one of Kirith's old co-pilots from her early twenties had tried it. A gruff man, terribly flyer but decent shooter - who didn't appreciate Cat's wisdom and sense of humor. Didn't understand why Cat was such an important addition to the crew apparently.
Luckily for Cat, she had long ago come up with a defense of such a blatant disregard for her rights and a general lack of respect. The ship promptly began diverting some of her power towards an outlet near the Jedi. A few seconds later, a small bolt of electricity shot towards the Jedi. Not a harmful amount, but enough to get his attention and hopefully make him remove his finger from the mute button.

He looked up at the Zabrak without hesitation or trepidation. Rutil was an intimidating figure, but Cao had grown used to the gruffness coming from the elder Jedi Knight. He raised an eyebrow as his Master muted the Cat's Paw, choosing not to warn him how foolish it was to mess with this particular ship. The Knight could take care of himself.
"This ship belongs to .. someone that Vilus used to know. I can't block him out anymore than I can block out the Force itself; I can just ignore him. But, for once, his desires were.. benign. Nostalgic. I decided to indulge him on this. Besides..."
His gaze fell, reliving the events of a month past, before lifting up to hold Rutil's gaze once more.
"I heard her voice after the fight with Na'an. If she's here, I'd like to know."

Rutil listened, trying to ignore the occasional (and intensifying) zaps shooting from the nearby power outlet. He was a Jedi Guardian; a warrior for peace who had faced down criminals, terrorists, and even the occasional Sith. And he would be damned if it was a petulant AI that finally made him submit. When Cao finished filling him in, Rutil spoke through gritted teeth - the only alteration to his otherwise implacable scowl - as he tried to ignore shocks that were rapidly going from annoying to genuinely painful.
"Can you feel the ship's captain here?"
A simple question. Caoimhin had opted to investigate the ship alone, which was already a fairly dumb move regardless of how violent the ship threatened to get. But dumber still was that the boy had an inherent ability to sense the presence of others - particularly the presence of others that they knew or encountered before - and hadn't thought to try it. There were at least two other ways to find out what he needed to know without needlessly endangering himself or breaking protocol.
And Rutil wasn't even going to begin with the problems inherent in indulging his dark alter, no matter what its intentions were.
Shooting a glare at the control console as another shock hit him, Rutil waited for a few seconds - letting the ship know that what he was about to do was on his terms rather than its - and depressed the mute button.
"Step to it, boy."

The soldier watched the Jedi Knight wander off to find Shan, and with a pointed glance at Qyrig, jerked his head in the other direction.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Let's leave 'em to it. Plenty of other compartments on a ship like this to search."
The Gand's head bobbed in an approximation of a nod, and they headed off in the opposite direction along the freighters main circular corridor. Qyrig carried on past the first chamber, the main engineering bay rear hold, whilst Alex stopped to search it.
The quick sweep of the engineering bay found nothing out of the ordinary, save the extra additions to the computer core which probably had something to do with the grouchy Artificial Intelligence. There were several open hatches around the engines, and components strewn around the floor. Alex guessed that meant the ship had been mid-maintenance when the attack had started. He didn't waste time looking through parts that meant nothing to him, moving on to the next section. The Shield generators looked... well, suitably spruced up for a ship like this, in which they almost always were. The storage lockers, which he gave a quick rifle through, also revealed nothing unexpected, though the tools looked to be good quality, which could prove useful. He had just finished his search of the final equipment locker when his comm unit buzzed, and the hushed tones of his team-mate whispered in his ear.
=Corporal Qyrig P'nhal= ::Alex. Please come to the forward hold. Qyrig has found... something.::
The young sniper frowned, pressing his hand to the side of his helmet to activate his comm, feeling a little frustrated at the vagueness.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "What do you mean, 'something'?"
=Corporal Qyrig P'nhal= ::Just come.::
With a sigh, and a shake of his head, Alex closed the locker, turned, and moved through to the forward lounge.
He slipped, as quietly as he could, past the two Jedi. The Zabrak looked to be even more irritable than usual, and the little snap of conversation he heard - "Step to it, boy." - confirmed the Zabrak's foul mood, and encouraged Alex to continue through without stopping.
He found his Gand team mate standing by the entrance to the crew cabins, just off of the small forward hold. The Gand's eyes were fixed staring into one of the rooms, the beam of light from the glowrod attached to his carbine pointed straight through the doorway. To Alex, the Gand seemed tense. Worried, even.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Qyrig? What is it?"
=Corporal Qyrig P'nhal= "Look."
Alex stepped up next to the fellow corporal, and peered into the room --
And found the familiar, and now slightly horrifying, sight of a T-shaped visor staring back at him. A full set of Mandalorian Armour, tucked in to one of the storage spots of the ship. Alex swallowed.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "We need to call this in."

His only response was to close his multicolored eyes and reach out with his mind. The result was as he had expected: an onslaught of emotions, of feelings from all the Praxeum's inhabitants; it was still a struggle, sometimes, to sort through everything the Force threw at him without the help of an artificial regulator. As such, he had to clamp down on his feelings as best as he could, in order to focus on what was around him; reaching further out, probing for something familiar, someone familiar.. There.
She wasn't alone, but that was to be expected. Privacy wasn't exactly commonplace in these days, what with the war on and all. He didn't recognize who she was with, not that he expected to. But she was definitely here.
Hello, Kirith.
The darkness continued not to have any malice to it, just tenderness and regret. It was rather shocking to think about, and even more shocking to hear in one's own head.
Cao opened his eyes, once again locking with the Zabrak's.
"She is here, sir."

"Good."
Rutil eked out one last acknowledgment before he depressed the ship's comm button, loosing a low growl as he rapidly opened and closed his fist to cope with the infuriating electrical jolts. The gruff Zabrak did not make a comment about how trying to sense this ship's captain should've been the first order of business; odds were good that Caoimhin got the point.
"If I were you, I'd set about finding Captain Aridigo. If you run into Master Kor-taan, all the better."
Nodding in affirmation, Rutil turned his head to call to the two soldiers that had boarded just behind him, his voice carrying throughout the ship.
"Anything worth cataloging?"

Caoimhin nodded. He had known Vesten back in the day on Anobis; he would be a welcome sight in these troubled times.
He had just turned to exit the ship, leaving the rest of the investigation in Rutil's more-than-capable hands, when he stopped suddenly. He had just felt something happen in the other part of the ship, where the two corporals were.. Something that had caught them off-guard and had them feeling no small part apprehensive..
Something told him he needed to be here to find out what it was, and he was never one to deny his instincts.

Alex glanced up in the direction of the door, to where the Zabrak's voice had originated.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Uh, you could say that, sir. We're just putting in a call now to control"
He looked back at the Gand, and then down, once more, at the menacing T-shaped visor that stared back at him.
=Corporal Qyrig P'nhal= "Would you like to do it, or should Qyrig?"
Alex scowled at his partner, before lifting his hand to the control on the side of his helmet.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Control, Ay-em-one-ay-three. There's something in the Hangar, aboard the ship designated 'Cat's Paw', that we need tactical advice on."
=Strategy Centre= Ay-em-one-ay-three, there's an officer approximately six meters from that ship. Advise you consult with him.
Alex's brow deepened in a tight frown, a hint of frustration bubbling up within him.
If it were something that simple, I wouldn't be calling it in, would I?
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Neg that, control, this needs Praxeum council atten--"
=Strategy Centre= I don't know if you've noticed, soldier, but there's quite a lot to be done and the Jedi Masters don't have time to come running every time a grunt gets jumpy. Stick your head out of the door and talk to the Ell-tee.
The young Corporal's nostrils flared, his teeth gritting tightly. Qyrig's head turned, a similar look of anger on his own alien features.
You jumped up little - I should take this beskar, march up there, and beat you with it.
The Corporal restrained this urge, taking a slow, deliberate breath in. His hand slid a little further up his helmet, and with a tap on a different control, he activated his mission feed camera. Then, through gritted teeth, he spoke again.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Control, I suggest you access my holofeed and have a look at what we've found. Then you can ask the Jedi Masters themselves if they think they 'have time to come running' for this."
There was a moment, a pause of silence, long and pregnant, in which Alex could almost feel his bile churning. When the voice on the other end of the comm returned, it had suddenly taken on a considerably less bold tone, sounding small and even, potentially, a little afraid.
=Strategy Centre= ... you... make a good point, Corporal. Stand by...
Another pause. In the quiet it brought, Alex suddenly became very conscious of the sound of him grinding his teeth together. He stopped immediately.
=Strategy Centre= One of the Jedi Masters will be with you shortly, Ay-em-one-ay-tree.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Thank you, control."

After a few minutes, the doors to the Turbolift opened. Out came Zuli, stooping low under the top of the lift's frame. As the Jedi Master righted himself, he walked over to the nearest technician and found the location of "The Cat's Paw". He walked briskly through the hanger, accompanied by metallic clunking sounds emanating from his armored boots..
Moments later, Zuli closed in on the YT-1300 and was soon outside the boarding ramp of "The Cat's Paw". He unfastened his helmet and clipped it onto his belt, before ducking under the fuselage and mounting the ramp. At the top of the ramp, Zuli stretched forth with The Force momentarily, searching for the corporals. Locating them was easy, so the Jedi Master walked calmly through the ship until he arrived at one of the crew cabins. Zuli ducked and stepped inside behind the two NCOs..
"Greetings young ones.." Zuli said with a smile.. "Let's take a look at what you've found.."

Alex gave the large, welcome form of Master Madoon a small, polite nod of greeting in lieu of a salute - if Rutil was blunt, aggressive, commanding, and serious to the end, then Zuli stood as his opposite, a soft, wise, and informal soul, possessed of great kindness but no less power or threat in combat.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "Looks like Mando armour to me, sir."
The light from his blaster still played over the helmet, that oh-so-familiar T-shaped visor, the gentle sheen of weathered metal where the matte paint had been scratched in a few places, a sight common to virtually all Mandalorian helmets. The heads up display built into the young Corporal's visor flashed all sorts of data at him, but he paid little attention to any of it, his focus entirely on the armour before them.
=Corporal Qyrig P'nhal= "Qyrig has details of the ship's owner, and the room number to which she was billeted, here, Master Jedi."
The Gand's tri-fingered hand lifted to hand a rugged military datapad to the Shi'ido Jedi Master - on it detailed what little information they had on Kirith Ardigo and her companion, Sidara Vercopa, which consisted of little more than their arrival date, the brief details of their approval down to the Praxeum by Vesten Kor-taan, and the two-bunk guest room in the residential complex of the Temple that they had been assigned to.
Alex, after giving the Jedi Master a moment to read the datapad, posed a question with a small frown.
=Corporal Alex Owains= "So... what do we do?"

Zuli took hold of the Datapad in his right hand. He read through the scant details and drew in a short, sharp breath, before puffing it out of his mouth and shaking his head slightly. The Jedi Titan leaned in and picked up the battle scarred helmet, carefully looking it over. It wasn't too dissimilar in design to that of his own. He then put it to one side and slowly inspected the rest of the suit. After only a couple of moments, Zuli stood up and turned to the awaiting soldiers..
"Not much to go on here.." Zuli said, tapping the 'pad on the palm of his armoured left hand. "Qyrig, I want you to confiscate this armour and have it taken away for a more detailed inspection. Then I want you to continue searching the ship for more clues.."
He grasped the Datapad a little tighter as he spoke, refraining from tapping it any more as an all too familiar presence in The Force became noticed in his now focused mind..
Caoimhin Shan..
"Alex.. You, I and Caoimhim" He said stepping backwards out of the doorway, finally acknowledging Caoimhin and Rutil.. "will go to to the Residential Quarters and bring these two in for questioning.."
The Armoured Jedi Titan's facial expression slowly became more serious, as did the tone of his voice..
"We can't allow our enemy to walk freely among us, so we will have to find out how they came to be in possession of this suit.."

Were he younger, Rutil would have taken offense at being almost totally ignored by Master Madoon. The two soldiers had assignments, as did his informal apprentice, and what was he supposed to do, stay on the ship and look for intruders in the middle of a heavily-armed military installation swarming with infantry, droids, and Jedi? Dust the outer plating of the ship for prints? But after some time, Rutil had come to realize that between his skill, reputation, and attitude, mistaking him for a Master was an easy mistake to make. If nothing else, it made scenarios like the one before him - where he was almost totally ignored (and thus, not treated as a subordinate) - slightly more tolerable.
In any case, Master Madoon and the corporal would be going to question a potential Mandalorian spy. One that was familiar to Caoimhin. The same Caoimhin that struggled with his darker impulses and even now was - by his own admission, no less - susceptible to succumbing to them at any moment. And while Master Madoon could probably handle such a revelation about someone he was taking to meet a potential threat to the Jedi, it would be far more important for the boy to tell the Master that himself. Coming from Cao, it would be an admission of a problem. Coming from Rutil, however, it would be a threat assessment. And as Rutil had told himself before, bringing the boy completely to the light would mean letting him go to it. Telling Master Madoon of his struggle on his own terms and of his own volition would be a good step in that direction.
And it was not the only one he could take.
"Caoimhin, you said you knew Captain Aridigo. If there's anything you can tell Master Madoon or myself, now would be the time."
It was as subtle a push as Rutil knew how to give. The answer might've meant outing himself as a former dark-sider. It also might've meant incriminating an old friend of his, if things truly were as bad as they looked. But if Caoimhin Shan wanted to prove himself, such things would have to come to light.

Luckily, Cao was not an idiot. He nodded to the Zabrak Jedi, then turned to face the familiar Jedi Titan.
"Kirith Aridigo, while not necessarily a devout friend of the Jedi, has never been their enemy, either. I have my doubts that she would be working with the people blockading this world. Her attitude can also sometimes match that of this ship."
He paused a moment before continuing.
"Also, not too long ago, I was considered 'the enemy,' and I've been walking relatively freely. There's a Sith right in front of you," he reached up and tapped his head, "and he's still waiting for his chance to break out. Granted, considering that he and Kirith were lovers for a time, I doubt that's his priority right now..."
You don't think I'm capable of regret.
I know what you're capable of, Vilus. We're two sides of the same person.
A fact which you try to regularly deny to yourself. You are me, Cao.
And vice versa. We've both had our "falls"... My fall, your redemption.
Don't remind me.
Cao allowed himself to smile; he knew that Vilus's "softening" was still a sore point for the Sith. He had also already come to terms with the fact that there was no shutting out of the Force around him; to those with the skills -- and desire -- to hear it, that internal conversation could have been an open book for all intents and purposes.

Zuli held a hand up in a protest of sorts. The conflict within Cao was as apparent to him as any other Force Sensitive, yet he didn't raise the point to make an issue of it..
"Well whatever the reasons for her being in possession of this armor, we must investigate what, if any threat she possesses whilst having free reign of the temple.."
The Armored Jedi Titan paused for a moment, Caoimhin's last piece of parted information replaying in his own mind for the briefest of moments..
"But worry not, my young friend.." He gestured towards the Zabrak Jedi with an open hand and a smile.. "Under the careful watch and guidance of Rutil, I do not believe you pose a threat to us here.."
Zuli stepped back, turning slightly to allow free passage through the doorway once more..
"Now, Corporal Owains, Caoimhim, I believe we have a job to do.."
Zuli inclined his head politely to Rutil before spinning on his heels and proceeding out of the ship. He kept an easy pace to allow the others to catch up as soon as they were ready. He made his way to the Turbolift and pressed the summon button. By time the others caught up it would be here and ready to transport the group to the next floor..
