*Before entering the bar on the other side of Coronet, a lovely TapCafe by the name of Broken Tin, Syren stared up into the velvety blackness of the Corellian sky. Well, it would have been a velvety black if not for all of the layers and levels and tiers of lights shining down from above. The price of civilization, she thought as she walked into the bar.
It was your typical spaceport bar: dark, dank, rank with the smell of sour beer and bitter piss. A classy establishment to be sure. But it was real. Syren did not breathe deeply as she made her way to the bartender. She was hooded and cloaked so all of the heads in the establishment turned towards her as she took a stance against the bar. She put a credit on the bartop and pointed to the Han Solo Rum on the top shelf.
The bartender scoffed for a moment, then shook his head when Syren pinned him with a severe gaze before taking down the dusty bottle. He pulled out a glass and started to pour.* "I'm going to need another glass and the bottle if you please."
*Syren's voice was smooth, but there was an edge of bite there as she formed the words. It was if she had lost a bit of her grasp on Basic. She held out her hand, but the barkeep merely looked at the single credit on the bar.
Syren picked it up and showed him the value of the credit. It seemed so ordinary, but it was more than enough for the rum. The bartender seemed to blanch a bit before handing over the bottle. Syren took it without giving him a second glance and moved off into a shadowy corner.

*Home. Well...sort of. Atton hadn't set foot on Corellia in almost 17 years and he barely recognized some parts of the city. Not that he was terribly enthusiastic about returning here. This wasn't exactly a place that had happy memories for him.
Still, if there were unhappy memories floating to the surface, then there was only one place to be. Some bar that Atton had never heard of before serving Force knows what. As long as they had good Corellian ale though, he wasn't going to complain about the menu or the clientele.
And so he secured a nice tall bottle of Corellian ale and sought out a place to drink in peace. Maybe it was just from being home again after so long, but he couldn't help but feel like there was a familiar presence nearby...*

*Syren scanned the room, sipping the rum. People came, very few went from the bar. She closed her eyes and let the Force do the seeing for her. Listening to the will of the Force was always a strange sensation. It felt similar to all of your nerve endings suddenly being on fire to a cooling presence guiding you where to look and listen. Each new person passed glowing with some strange light but not one she was apparently looking for, until she found it.
Syren opened her eyes to look at the man pulling away from the bar with a bottle of Corellian Ale.*
"Sithspit, you're still alive." *Her oath came out louder than she had expected, and she was somewhat surprised to see Atton Kaelan in a bar years and parsecs far and away from Anobis.

*Atton turned when he heard the voice, as did several of the other patrons, but there was no doubt to whom that exclamation had been directed. It took a moment for him to remember who she was, but remember he did. Sighing, he started walking towards her.*"Yeah, how 'bout that? I could say the same thing to you, Syren."

*Syren looked the man up and down for a moment. How long ago was the battle on Anobis? Was that even the last time she had seen Atton? She quickly scanned through the odd bits of memory she had strung together.* "I'm going to ask a really awkward question," *She paused thinking a moment about how to word this, * "Am I dead?"
*Syren did not feel dead, but if she suddenly were, she imagined that she would end up in the scuzziest bar on one of the most irritating planets in the galaxy as part of her afterlife solely to be haunted by figures from her past that she had utterly failed.
Or maybe she wasn't dead, perhaps people never died in the galaxy and it was simply an illusion... well that was hopeful... but maybe not.* "Nevermind, don't answer that. How've you been, not dead and all?"

*Atton just chuckled darkly at her question, and realized that he could probably have asked her the same thing, given his recent tale of cheating death. But that was a complicated tale that he didn't really feel like relating to anyone, even old friends.
He sighed as he took a seat across from her, taking a long pull from the bottle before replying.*"'Bout all I can say is...I didn't die. Although I kind of almost did, but if it's all the same to you, I'd rather not get into what happened there." *He took another long drink.*"I guess this is the part where I ask how you've been, not being dead and all that."

*Syren knew about cheating death, so she nodded and took another draw from her rum.* "Given that I'm not entirely sure that I'm alive, I'm going to hedge with the classic, I've been better." *She was being chatty, this was not the classic pattern for her. But then again, she had mostly lost her mind for the umpteenth time, so it was quite possible she was not feeling herself. She found herself staring at Atton, not fully knowing what to say. In the end it was a lame,* "You're a normal human, right?" *Because if anyone could ask awkward and untimely questions, it was Syren.*

*Hmm...an interesting question. Saying that he was a normal human might be a bit of a stretch, as normal wasn't the type of word that could describe someone in his position. Although with all the weird shit that happened in the galaxy, maybe Atton was the closest thing to normal one could point to. Regardless, he just shrugged.*"I...guess? I dunno, exactly. Maybe the answer is at the bottom of this bottle." [*He smirked and downed the rest of the ale.*/font]

*Syren sensed that he had run empty so she edged the bottle of rum towards him.* "Well if you have the normal human lifespan, then either I was very much dreaming this morning, or I am reliving a memory now." *She picked at her glass,* "You ever have the feeling that someone is just picking and choosing the worst moments of your existence and writing it down, where you have to perform the same daunting task over and over again, without any real satisfaction when it comes to a close?"
*Syren took a drink,* "Yesterday I was feeling my planet burn to the ground around me, and the day before that I was holding a child dying of plague in my arms trying to console her, last week I was witness to this planet exploding..." *Her eyes scanned briefly around the room, she was not alltogether sure, but it seemed like people had edged away from her table and the barkeep was seconds away from calling CorSec, which was something he probably had never done in his life.

*And here Atton was thinking that facing down a few Dark Jedi or flying through an asteroid field was stressful. Clearly, Syren was in a bad place right now, even worse than him, which was saying something. Normally he didn't spend much time listening to other's problems because he had always felt that he lacked counseling skills. The bottle of rum she pushed his direction changed his mind entirely.
Taking a swig, he leaned back in his seat.*"Sounds like you've had a rough time since we last parted. Doesn't feel like that long ago, to be honest."*He took another drink.*"I've been thinking lately...if you're still alive, it's because there's some task or something that you haven't done that you need to complete. I think that's why I'm somehow still alive."*He sighed heavily.*"Hang on a sec, I'm not drunk enough to talk philosophy yet."*He took another drink from the bottle.*

*Syren quirked an eyebrow then looked down at the bottle of rum.* "Oh right. Alcohol has a psychotropic effect on you guys." *She considered this for a moment,* "Lucky bastards. It's like sugar water to me." *Then she did a slight double-take,,* "Be Careful with that, it is a tad stronger than you might be used to..."
*She leaned back against the wall and sighed deeply.* "I shall assume that you have never experienced the wonderful sensation of reliving your life in random scraps and moments as you go about the business of your day." *She considered getting up to grab another bottle of liquor, but thought better of it, after all it didn't do anything to her. To be honest, she preferred bars to get a handle of her empathy. It was hard to shut out the noise of a large city like this one, at least with drunk people you could commiserate. Now if she could just a get a handle on this whole being out of a time line thing, she might be on to something big when it came to understand the Force.*

*Atton just shook his head.*"Please remember to whom you're speaking. I can handle more liquor than most!"*Truth be told he was starting to feel the effects of rapid alcohol consumption. He would have to start to pace himself or risk ending the conversation with Syren early via passing out or worse. *"I only flash back when I'm about to be killed by something or someone. Life flashing before my eyes and all that."*He sighed.*"You seem like you're having memory problems...or something."

*She shrugged.* "It certainly wouldn't be the first time." *Concentrating was becoming difficult. She wasn't quite sure what it was she concentrating on either. Was she trying to keep this moment from ending? Was she trying to keep the incessant voices of everyone else from overcoming her own mind? Was the Force being insistent that she needed to move on to another call from the future... or the past? "I just don't know when I am anymore."
*Syren sighed again and felt that fuzzy feeling start to wash over her, a signal that the she had lost the concentration battle for... something. "Do you feel tingly?"

*So Syren didn't know when she was. Well that was certainly an odd thing to say. How could one not know when they were? Atton wasn't sure he'd be able to help her with that, unless he figured out how to teach Syren to time travel.
He shook his head.*"I'm nowhere near drunk enough for tingly." *That being said, he could feel a ripple in the Force. It was a minor one, but noticeable. What it could mean, he did not know. *

*Syren stood up and walked to the bar with another credit between her fingers.* "What's your poison Atton?" *As she reached the bar a long and loud siren began to belt out from somewhere in the city. Syren looked first to the bartender, then around the room, until finally settling onto Atton's face. "You hear that right?

*Atton didn't hesitate when asked what his poison was.*"Corellian ale."*There it was again, that tremor in the Force, stronger this time. As if on cue, he could hear the siren. Even in his slightly inebriated state, it was plainly obvious that something was amiss out in the city. Figures. He hadn't been home for a few hours before something was going down.
He nodded and stood up.*"Yeah, I hear that. Sounds like trouble."

*Syren moved towards the door, forgetting about the Corellian Ale, but leaving behind the credit.* "What's on this street besides the Spaceport?" *She turned to the bartender and caught his eyes. The man was a shrewd business man, you didn't last long in this part of Coronet if you weren't, but his eyes glazed over as Syren reached out through the Force to brush her will lightly against his own.
Syren's suggestion pulled images to the front of his mind. She mentally flicked through them quickly. They were human thoughts, distorted to her, but images of the streets on this side of the city. The Spaceport was an obvious target, as well as several fronts for money laundering, there were one or two smaller establishments on both sides of the street, and a large industrial building. Syren thought that it looked a bit like a laboratory. The last image was a CorSec branch office.
She released her grasp on the Force and so the bartender. The process took matter of heart beats, and she was out the door.
The siren blared in the street, and the sounds of CorSec responding to the disturbance were on the wind as well. Syren stopped, standing perfectly still as she dived into the Force again. Her senses sharpened, sound and smell became painfully keen. There was something on the air that seemed so familiar, but she could not quite place it. Then there was the subtlest wisp of and swish of a clicking sound that Syren was all too familiar with.
Syren tried to wrench her senses back to their normal volume as time seemed to slow down. There was a near deafening explosion down the street coupled with a blinding flash, followed by a massive shock wave that rippled through the buildings along the road and pushed Syren physically back into the side of the building where she crumpled to the ground in a heap, a trickle of bluegreen blood dripping from her nose.

*Atton watched Syren, continuing to feel the disturbances in the Force. It was getting stronger by the minute. And as soon as Syren went outside, Atton got a bad feeling, the kind he only got when something truly bad was about to go down.
Well, it was a good thing he hadn't gone overboard on the booze.
Just as he was about to get up, the building shook violently, throwing him and everyone else to the floor. Somehow, the building didn't totally collapse, but that was probably only a matter of time. His ears still ringing, Atton staggered to his feet.*"Knew I had a bad feeling..."*He stumbled to the entrance and walked outside to the sounds of chaos. It didn't take him long to find Syren, crumpled against the side of the building. He rushed over and knelt down in front of her, a hand on her shoulder.*"Hey! Syren!"

*Syren felt nothing but blinding pain for the first few minutes when she returned to consciousness. All of her senses burned so sharply, her mind reeled back towards darkness. She barely felt Atton's hand on her shoulder. Her ears rang and she could not see. She instinctively stretched out to the Force to steady her reeling mind. The pain subsided nominally, just so to let her form thoughts rather than feel only the screaming, searing pain of damaged sensory inputs.*
<<What?>>
*Trying to communicate through the Force was like trying to peel a band-aid off of a half healed wound. Syren clung to the Force trying to get a hold of her senses.

*Atton heard the voice in his head, and he sighed in relief. She would be all right, provided medical help came soon enough. That, however, was the least of his concerns. Even in all the noise and chaos he could sense it. He could sense them...
He patted Syren's shoulder.*"Stay down, we got trouble...well more trouble."*He got to his feet and took his lightsaber off his belt, activating the cyan blade. He couldn't see them, but he could feel them.
Suddenly, blaster shots rang out, directed at him. Atton parried each shot, sending them either back where they came for harmlessly into the ground. There were only three or four attacking him, and it didn't take him long to dispatch them. But there would be more...
As soon as they were done, he quickly ran back to Syren.*"We need to get out of here! You have to stand up!"*Without waiting for an answer, he took his free hand and tried to help her up. It wouldn't be long before they were attacked again...*
