"You have plenty of years left, Z'har," she remarked quietly, "why have you given up on a child of your own?" She turned to look at him, wanting to know what he was thinking, but oddly half-afraid of the answer. She knew there were many peculiarities involved in their relationship, obstacles that normal individuals would probably view as insurmountable, but she wasn't willing to just give up like that. She didn't know if she could have children, rather, if they could have children. She wasn't sure if he had ever thought of it before. And she, well, she knew she didn't have the best parenting skills, in fact, that was an understatement. The only child she'd ever had was dead by her hands. True, he had been the product of an unwanted arranged marriage to a man she couldn't help thinking of as a monster. Also true, he'd tried to kill her. But some part of her still regretted what had happened. And deep down in her psyche, in the place she never looked, she was afraid that history would repeat itself in some twisted fashion, in spite of the fact that she loved Z'har as she'd never loved another.

-Z'har I have not given up on him.
Which was true, despite the fact that Marcos had killed several SS Operatives & plunged an entire system into civil war costing Z'har a massive fortune. Z'har still suspected that he would meet up with Marcos again someday on more equal footing. Marcos was too much like himself for anything else to be reasonable.
-Z'har It is, however, rather difficult to pass control to someone when you have no idea where they are. True, I could probably find him without too much effort if I tried. That boy could not keep a low profile to save his life. But for the moment, I think it will do him a world of good to explore the galaxy & himself without me constantly looking over his shoulder. He might even learn a little restraint.

Jade arched her eyebrows at him and took a breath in relief. And felt misunderstood. However, maybe it was better this way.
"That, wasn't precisely what I was getting at." She brushed her hair back from her face and propped her chin on her knee. "But I see what you mean." Maybe she'd misunderstood in thinking that he had no direct genetic descendants. Anyway, it looked like that was a different discussion for a different time.

Z'har took a moment to review her exact words. Which made him realize that he had misunderstood her question in light of the previous topic. If he hadn't been in complete control of this form's automatic functions, he probably would have blushed.
-Z'har Barring any purely genetic complications that might present themselves, that would require a certain amount of ... additional planning, to work. For one I hadn't exactly considered the topic of fertility when this body was crafted.

Jade grinned in a fashion that might have politely been called maniacal. "Well, you seem to do alright in terms of," she hesitated briefly, "basic mechanics," she finished with a half-stifled laugh. "Anyway, I was thinking out loud I suppose, since I really don't know what you want." She couldn't literally read his mind anymore. His latest upgrade had canceled out the one notable advantage she'd held over him.

-Z'har I think it would be ...
Z'har actually paused here as he tried to decide the right word, something that happened very rarely due to how quickly he could think in this form.
-Z'har Nice, if perhaps someone challenging. Speaking of desires, what of yourself? Do you want a brace of little ones trailing along at you robe hems?

"Your reaction time is down," she remarked. Normally he had lightning fast responses, but if this was simply due to herself, then she was amused and gratified to know that she could catch him off balance. Since she couldn't read his mind anymore due to his latest upgrade, she'd lost the one notable advantage she'd had over him.
Her eyes widened in surprise and a bit of alarm, "A brace of them, like multiple offspring?" she replied faintly. Even one would be tricky, but if it was what he wanted...

Z'har laughs quietly at her reaction. Like her, he felt it was good to be able to spring surprises on the other.
-Z'har Well, both of us are rather long lived. The odds would point to several children over the years if we decided to try for at least one. Not that any of them would be accidental, due to our rather unusual relationship.

She liked it when he laughed. Particularly around her when they were alone. He sounded happy and relatively at ease. "Akh, well, is that what you want? That could cause complications and confusion. How would your other children feel about it?" she inquired evasively. "Besides, I didn't think you believed in accidents."
A startled squawk shrieked in the woods before suddenly being silenced. Moments later Selaya padded out onto the rock that Z'har and Jade were sitting on. The vornskr licked her lips toothily, displaying vicious fangs. A few tell-tale feathers stuck to her muzzle.

-Z'har I have to admit a certain appeal in the idea. As to my current children, I doubt there will be any conflict about it as I don't plan to treat them any differently & both of them are fully grown.
His other children, namely most of the several million strong D'Ordinii clan, likely wouldn't have anything to say about the matter either. Mostly because in that case the adoption was a touch more ritualized into something far closer to a distant, protecting, patriarch figure than a real parent-child bond.

"Mmm quite," she shifted a bit closer to him and leaned her head against his shoulder. "It would probably mean seeing more of each other in the future, at least on a semi-regular basis, unless one of us wanted to be nearly a stranger to the offspring," she mused quietly. She didn't know if she'd be a good candidate as parent. Part of her wanted a child, now that she thought about it, someone to share her heritage with. The other part of her was uneasy.
"Speaking of family," she continued as it seemed to be a time for conversation, "Terra knows what to do in the event of my demise. Have you met her yet?"

-Z'har Well, in that case, we should definitely remain near each other. I would be terrible to disappoint our hypothetical children after all.
There was just enough humour leaking into his voice to indicate that he hadn't even considered one of them being a stranger to any children they had as a valid option.
-Z'har I have not yet, but I have a feeling that it won't be too much longer now that you bring it up. But first, I have to remove the idea of you demise from your mind.
There was a slightly devious grin on his face as he pondered exactly how to go about banishing that thought.

Since discovering Z'har at the other end of a large bounty for herself, the diminutive Jedi Master had had to reevaluate several things in her life. She was still trying to reconcile being a Jedi Master with being a woman, and on top of that, being a High Councilor who happened to love a Mando'ad warlord. She didn't allow it to become a conflict of interest, but so far she hadn't been put in a position where that had been at stake. Even if it was, long practice had made her an expert at dancing on the edge of a hidden knife. She had not thought to see him again. And now that she knew he still felt the same way towards her that he had on Galantos, she was not about to lose him again, not without a giant effort to negotiate the various obstacles in their way.
She reached over to where Selaya was contentedly laying near them and stroked the large feline's pointy ears with her fingertips before settling closer into her companion's embrace. She smiled softly, "I will eventually be old, if I live that long, even for one of my race. One day I will be one with the Force, not even your love can change that, shade of my heart," she whispered fondly, green sparks glinting in the depths of her eyes in response to his tone.

-Z'har Perhaps, But I think my existence alone is proof enough that not even death is certain in this world.
That of course, didn't even touch on the nearly two score figures that Z'har had met over the long years that claimed to be thousands of years old at least. At least five of them Z'har had been able to find enough loose evidence & various documents to come close enough to proof for the notoriously disbelieving Mando. That had been a considerable element of his own hunt for eternity.
-Z'har Now, enough talk of death. Let us see. You once asked about my siblings, I think it only fair to return the query. Did you have any siblings before you left your home world?

Jade shrugged before leaning into his embrace. Her hand was resting on his upper arm lightly. A slight frown creased her brow as she thought about that. She herself was convinced that in her case death would be permanent, and in spite of the love she'd discovered for Z'har, she wasn't sure she would want to live longer than her span of years. No one could really say what becoming one with the Force was like, but she would not find out for some time yet, unless something bad happened. Such things were always possible in a universe like this.
"I---" vagueness flickered through her eyes as she tried to remember. Momentary panic welled up inside as she realized she was struggling to remember something that she should have known instinctively. "No, not immediately. There were cousins of course, and much later there was a sister," she hesitated for a second, "but she was so much younger than I that I never really knew her." She almost regretted that, but didn't let herself go too far down that road.

Z'har ran the fingers of one hand through the fur of the feline creature that had long ago been a present to Jade. He was glad to note the coils of muscle lurking just below the creature's flesh, it had taken a lot of work to alter the base creature to have a lifespan long enough to match the scraps of information he had gathered about the vaguely mysterious woman in his arms. By his reckoning the creature had another four & a half centuries left before it would succumb to decline. Even that was in doubt though, as it had already been effected in unforeseen ways by the Jedi Master.
-Z'har Were you close to any of your cousins?

"Not particularly. You see, while the concept of family was important, in reality, I did not have the time since I was away at the Academy and then out on active duty. Later, it was simply too dangerous." She answered honestly, though she didn't define the danger or the fact that she had been concerned for their safety, as knowing her could have been prejudicial to their welfare.
The vornskr rumbled a low purr as Z'har brushed her ears. She dimly remembered him as a ghost-like presence in the back of her mind. She hadn't seen much of him really, and even less after he'd given her to Jade.

-Z'har Understandable, most cultures don't put quite so much emphasis on immediate family as Mandalorian culture does.
Then again, most cultures also didn't consider every member to be completely insane & an action hero to boot as an entry requirement.

"Stop trying to confuse me," she laughingly replied, slithering about till she lay comfortably within the reach of his arms with the vornskr on the other side of her. The stars were twinkling through the overhanging tree branches above them. "Family is important, but I couldn't do the normal things after a time. I didn't want to split the house in half, neither did I wish to place others in danger." She grimaced wryly, "though, the other half of my family was in large part responsible for a measure of the chaos that surrounded my... eventual departure." It had been a long day, and for once, she was able to simply enjoy being with the man she'd grown to care about. Naturally though, she was tired, and it wouldn't be too hard for her to fall asleep soon.

-Z'har If my clan turned away from the proper road, I would probably not stop in my efforts to correct them until the entire clan was in ashes. Then again, my surname is based on the word for fool.
Z'har's fingers slipped to the nape of Jade's neck & began to work on relaxing the muscles there with strong, steady motions.
