*Monsoon Mesa was the location of a Republic base during the Battle of Jabiim.*

Jabiim.
It was a world rich in history, ore, and conflict. Today, it boasted much of the same, though to somewhat varying degrees. Despite its living conditions, several small villages had arisen across its surface in bold defiance.. or stubbornness. The townsfolk lived relatively peaceful lives, taking frequent shelter indoors from the constant torrential rains. Recently, though, a change had been noticed. One village had fallen silent, followed soon thereafter by a second. It was by this second village that a figure now stood, draped in a black traveling cloak that obscured all but her facial features.
Her senses had already informed her that the town before her was empty, devoid of life. She sighed softly, the sound swallowed up by the pounding rain, before moving towards it. The cloaked woman seemed not to care one way or another about the weather past the fact that her hood was drawn up; much more interesting to her were the scorch marks along some of the walls and doors, distinctive burnt slashes that signified lightsaber damage. Another sigh escaped her lips as she approached one such mauled door, stepping inside to survey the interior. To her relative surprise, this house bore little sign of conflict aside from the entryway.. she imagined that this would not be the case with the others.

*A lone Jedi starfighter swooped low over the terrain of Jabiim, its single occupant one disgruntled and unorthodox Jedi Master. The destination? One... and now two slaughtered villages. Just suddenly taken, gone in a flash. Why had he taken on this investigation in particular? It hit a little too close to home. That had been the reason he volunteered, and now the reason he wished he hadn't. He had thought he'd be putting his skills to good use and do something that would get his mind off the slaughter of the Deralian Jedi at last...
... but all this did was keep the slaughter fresh in his memory.
He tried his best to keep his mind focused on the present, enough so to make the logical decision to investigate the second village, where the clues would be freshest. As he approached, he sensed something else. Something familiar, but more importantly it was a presence in the village. His focus suddenly narrowed in, he quickly found a safe enough spot to land his craft. He leapt from the cockpit, barely clearing the opening canopy, lightsaber hilt smacking into his palm but the blade remaining dormant for now.
Thus he began his investigation.*

After her cursory examination of the first house, Sakri once more found herself on the muddied road. As she reached out to touch the burn-scarred door of the neighbouring house, she paused and narrowed her eyes. She turned her head to look over her shoulder, lingering there as the current rippled gently, heralding the approach of a familiar disturbance. The cloaked woman remained poised as such for a few moments longer, seemingly lost to her thoughts, before shaking her head slightly and returning to the task at hand.
All things in due time.
She reached into the current and pushed, and the door slid open. The scene which greeted her was much less placid than the last; more burnt slash marks tarnished the floor here, and crumpled in the corner lay a motionless humanoid figure. She could already sense the figure's lack of presence, yet still she stepped forward to look more closely at them. The figure was in fact a human woman, her head slumped to one side, her eyes closed, one arm draped across her chest.. where a deep wound could be seen cutting through her.
Sakri briefly glanced around the interior before looking down at the woman's body.
"Rest well."
After a few more moments, she nodded, then she turned and strode outside. That familiar disturbance was drawing much closer now, a swirling eddy of emotion and power that became ever more clear to her senses. That, however, could wait, as she saw another figure lying face-down in the road. No longer bearing the approaching presence any mind, she walked over to this latest find, squatting down beside them. A hole was stabbed through the center of their back, and Sakri shook her head again before reaching down to flip them over, revealing him to be a red-skinned Zeltron male with a corresponding hole in his stomach.
She sighed as she regarded the injury and then the face of the man, his lifeless eyes staring up into the rainy skies..

*Kriffing rain. It wouldn't make this investigation easy, and he hadn't thought to bring any weather protection. He had always been an unorthodox Jedi, or else he would have been wearing robes that came with a hood. He did have his beanie—further emphasizing his unorthodox style—but a soaking wet beanie was arguably less comfortable than no head protection at all.
He was too stubborn to remove it. And perhaps too focused. By now it had dawned him who the familiar presence belonged to: The woman from the Rancor Graveyard, who'd unearthed the holocron. Coincidence, then, that a darksider was here, in the midst of a slaughtered village?
His "investigation" consisted of a brief examination of a nearby corpse, then marks on a nearby building. They were enough to confirm the damage was caused by a lightsaber; in turn, they were enough for Joey to scowl and follow the presence to its source, prepared to confront her over this. He knew he shouldn't have let her leave Felucia; typical dark side deceit at play and he'd let himself fall for it thanks to his mental state.
Fortunately for him, she didn't seem to be making much effort to hide herself, crouching in the middle of the road over a corpse, their figures just discernible through the downpour. Something in the back of his mind told him this was off, but his feet carried him onward, his knuckles white from the grip on his unlit lightsaber.* "Care to explain yourself?!" *he demanded over the pounding rain.*

At first, it seemed she hadn't heard the question. The cloaked woman reached for the man's face and slowly, almost reverently, ran her fingers down it, closing his eyes.
"Rest well," she said again.
Sakri stood then and finally turned her head to face the returning interloper. One eyebrow quirked upwards when her eyes flitted toward the weapon in his head. So, once more he chose to approach her while brandishing an unlit blade? She was disappointed but in no way surprised.
"I doubt you will believe this was not my doing," she stated, her voice carrying surprisingly well through the weather. "Regardless, it is the truth."
Given this man's apparent tendency to make assumptions about people, she fully expected their current second encounter to come to more of a conflict than their last.. especially given the circumstances of their meeting. It would be a regrettable road to walk; she wished him no harm, but she would do what she must to continue her survival.

*The woman—Sakri, that was it—claimed innocence. Joey nearly closed off his mind from reason, some part of him looking for an excuse to thumb the activation trigger and put an end to a murderer. The temptation made him seethe and shake, his thumb a millimeter from igniting his weapon. At the last moment, some measure of control overtook him and he shut his eyes, allowing reasoning to enter his mind. It wasn't an immediate shift; logic argued with emotion until the former eventually won out.
Barely.
He groaned, easing his stance somewhat.* "Fine. But what the hell are you doing here anyway?"

Well, she had been wrong -- for now. Sakri had to admit she was impressed that the man had given himself that crucial moment to think before he acted, though it was twinged with a small amount of pity; his grieving had clearly not ended, and she wished him not his emotional turmoil.
"Laying these souls to rest."
She began moving again, walking up the road toward the next dwelling. After a few moving seconds of consideration, she sighed and spoke to the Jedi once more.
"Then I will find the being responsible for these deaths."
For once, she actually continued her train of thought verbally. It wasn't something she enjoyed doing, but she knew that this man seemed to need further explanation for everything..

*Joey kept his hilt in hand—more so in case the two of them weren't alone—and moved a little closer, even as she walked away a short distance and explained herself. The explanation was not one he expected, causing him to scowl.* "Since when does a darksider give a crap about putting innocent souls to rest?" *he demanded.* "For that matter, why do you care who did this?"

Joey's questions caused her to stop in her tracks.
You have clearly failed to pay attention.
A few silent moments later, she whirled to face him again, her emerald gaze locking onto his with a sudden intensity that was visible even through the downpour.
"I do not regard death lightly, protector."
Sakri had been present when he had introduced himself to the Gatekeeper, but she didn't assume her own permission to use his name. What he had called himself was "a protector of sorts," so that was the term she would use for him unless directed otherwise.. and still, maybe even then.
"This," she said, glancing at the body in the street, "won't continue."

*"Protector"? Him? The very thought made him scoff. Then he managed to recall he'd used the term to describe himself during their first encounter. What a lie that was. He deflected the ill thoughts by focusing on the last thing she had said.* "Why? What's it mean to you?"
*This was a waste of time. He was sent her to investigate, not to interrogate someone not involved. Growling to himself, he instead asked,* "Never mind, you learn anything?"

Even after seeing her here, even after hearing her words, he continued to doubt her motives. She could sense the conflict in his mind; but upon his further questioning of her presence and actions, she shook her head and turned again, returning to her path to the next dwelling.
He seemed to abandon his line of questioning as she made it to the doorway. This one was wide open, the access panel having been completely burned through. She sighed and shook her head again, almost certain of what she would find inside. Joey spoke again, and she turned her head enough to look at him.
"Enough."
On that single word, she stepped inside, noting as she glanced down a light burn trail running across the floor. She followed it, rounding a corner inside the establishment and coming across what was once a young human boy. His body was cleft in twain, split from his left hip to his right shoulder, though the wound was largely cauterized already. As seemed typical of the day, she shook her head in disgust, then knelt beside his fallen torso. Just as she had done with the Zeltron, she reached toward his face, dragging her fingers down and closing his eyes.
"Rest well," she repeated.

*That wasn't much of an answer. Joey rolled his eyes as he followed her into the home, appreciating the brief reprieve from the downpour. While it continued to pound on the roof overhead, he could make out sound more clearly than he could outside. The sight of the dead child made him stop, staring at the poor boy blankly. Images of the slaughter on Deralia flashed in his mind, and only then did he look away at last.*
"Any idea who did it?" *he asked, almost expecting no clear answer. Doing his own investigation might yield clues, but on the surface, it could have been Sith, Knights of Ren, or some other rogue Force-user. What they wanted with Jabiim, however...*

The eddy in the Force that was Joey's presence grew cold as he stood behind her, staring at her self-imposed work.
Ah.
She shook her head, then spoke again.
"Yes."
Sakri stood and turned to regard the Jedi, locking eyes with him for a few seconds before pointing to the burn trail left in the floor.
"Someone unprofessional," she continued, finally looking down at the trail she was indicating, then looking back at the maimed boy. "Unbalanced."
She sneered slightly at the word; she meant its meaning quite literally. Whoever had done this had done so without restraint or direction.. they had set themselves loose on these people, come whatever may. Someone like that had to be out of balance with the Force. She was going to find this individual and put a stop to them, and the fire of that thought was burning in her eyes as she turned to face Joey once more.
"Someone who will answer for their deeds."
On that note, she made to move past him, to check the remainder of the dwelling, in search of more unspoken-for souls..

*Joey briefly wondered what their profession had to do with anything until the truth of what she meant hit him: This truly was too chaotic to be affiliated with either major dark side faction. Much as he hated them both, they were much more organized than this. Especially Jacob...
He quietly stepped aside allowing her to pass, contemplating all this. After all, he had been sent to investigate, and he was rightfully invested.* "... let me help you." *It almost hurt his pride to even ask. Almost. At this point, nothing hurt anymore.* "I came to investigate anyway and it looks like we have the same goal."

There it is.
Though she herself would never ask for another's aid, Sakri wasn't foolish enough to turn down an offer of it.. assuming the one offering could prove useful. And this one.. she felt he had potential, despite everything. The remainder of the rooms were empty, and she returned back in the hallway to face him, staring him down as she stood in silence.
You've learned.
Finally, she nodded. "Yes," she said, "we do. You may.. aid me."
She doubted he understood the admission veiled in her acceptance. She also doubted that he would care if he did.

*Some foreign sense of relief welled up within his gut, a feeling that made him briefly scowl. He did his best to ignore both as the rest of the home was deemed empty, before he attempted to put his mind to the mission and ask,* "What've you searched already? What's left?"

The Gulomi-class Dropships dropped down through the atmosphere toward the surface of Jabiim, their stealth systems keeping them hidden from detection. Shaxad reached out with the Force, guiding the pilots down to just above the tree tops, where they flew in the direction of the Monsoon Mesa base. However, they stopped about a mile or two out from the base in a clearing that could fit the Dropships. Their cargo holds opening up to allow the shock trooper teams and Shaxad to disembark. A strange sight to see the behemoth of the deep out of the depths of the ocean, but he looked as fearsome on land as he did in the water Let us storm this base and claim the first of many outposts for the Dominion! The shock troopers gave out a cheer before charging off into the forest. Shaxad following behind them as he tore up trees and launched them through the air toward the base. He was unafraid to let them know he was coming. All the better for them to exist in fear for the final moments of their lives before he arrived and feasted upon them

As the first Dominion Troopers were spotted, the military forces, stationed on Jabiim, manned their defences immidiately, as they were already prepared for a threat from outside. With the fall of the Galactic Alliance and the last battle over Jabiim, the local militia has doubled their efforts to increase the troop count, turning the former Republic base from the Clone Wars into a durable holdfast. Although they couldn't determine the location from where the invaders came from, turrets within the local area were manned and forward bases were utilized. The situation would become eventually difficult for the Quarren Dominion, when approaching the first outpost area, leading up towards the actual base. One of the Amphi-Hydrus, a present field commander, awoke from his battle meditation and directed his mechnochair over to the site of the Behemoth. "Their forces have manned turret around a fortification, leading up to the camp, oh Great One", the frog-like creature reported, "Furthermore, an AT-TE patrols the area. The defenders might not be as expierienced as the Imperials, but their weaponry could cause havoc among our troops. Shall we wait for further supply lines or sacrifice our soldiers as a token of our loyality towards those who dwell among the stars?"

After some time with the troops deployed, Kelam had finally disembarked with his crew aboard his VT-49. The installed sensor jammers were activated as they left orbit, disrupting the realization of their approach as they flew over the Monsoon Mesa on their way towards Choal. For what Kelam could tell, the forces had the situation handled for the most part. Yet, since he was passing by, he would give some of his aid.
Bellek and Rodirc fired on the ground forces near the base as they made a line pass over it. Firing both the ion cannons and a few shots from the concussion missiles, Rika worked to weaken the forces as they approached the AT-TE. As they grew closer, the quad laser turrets faced forward, the ion cannons, the two heavy laser cannons, a group of concussion missiles were unleashed to take it out. The sensor jammers along with the commotion of the Dominion forces had been more than enough for the Decimator to slip in mostly undetected and wreak havoc across the battlefield, working to help pave the way for their forces.
