It's been summed up in the thread's title pretty well. EA has worked out a deal with Disney for exclusive rights to produce and develop Star Wars games. kotaku.com/ea-snags-exclusive-deal-to-make-star-wars-games-493178983Personally, I'm excited. I know a lot of people dislike EA, but they're going to be producing while they leave the development to their teams with DICE (Battlefield), Visceral Games (Dead Space), and BioWare. There's a lot of potential here. Despite the opinion of EA, the fact is that their subsidiaries put out much better product than LucasArts had been responsible for in quite a long time.

I will as always reserve judgement for any game until I play it. Unless if focuses on online play more than offline because fuck game companies who do that.

"Best" is a strong word. KOTOR was good, but when you get down to it not terribly original or well-executed.
I think KOTOR II and Jedi Knight top it, in storytelling and mechanics respectively.

I'm completely fine with it as long as EA/Dice make Battlefront 3 with the updated Frostbite 2.0 engine.
I would probably be happy if it was simply a reskinned Battlefield 3, with hopefully a nice 64 to 128 PPG.
Anyway, Lucasarts was just licensing to bad companies at the end. Maybe EA could fetch bigger third parties at the cost of soul selling.

We're simply going to have to pay for the game even after we've bought it. You buy the game for fifty to sixty dollars, and then the only way to progress through part one without having to go through three days of non-stop playing is to purchase little buffs and bonuses that they offer. Same with part two. And every other part.
It's the most diabolical and evil way of business, and that's why EA is the best at it.

I'm not sure what game you've played to give you that impression, Jace, but any EA game I have follows the same marketing principles as any game from another major developer/publisher.
Most major games now have add-on content that is just extra, regardless of the publisher. That's the other thing... for the most part, anymore, EA is just a publisher. I've no clue what gives you the idea that you'll be buying games in "parts" to continue on. Please share your examples and insights, because obviously it's a big issue for you.

all depends on the game type Jace.. the type of games your describing are mostly MMORPG's ... buy the game (sometimes)... have ingame store that you can use either ingame or RL money where usally the best items can only be bought with RL money (most of the time) .. pay for an account/connection to the game (occasionally)...
^^ this describes the epitome of greedy corperations.. the Pay to Win, MMORPG, that you must buy, and then also pay a monthly subscription fee. personally i also feel that some of these are the games that have destroyed the gaming industry as once yo make a crappy game that 8Mil people are paying for, and constaly subscribed to, and are buying items from a store..
well programmers are all good and paid up now where just sitting here raking in cash twiddling our thumbs... OH i know lets produce a short DLC that we can charge 20$ for and get at least 6mil people to buy..
then theres other games that in general will have addition DLC or expansion packs... that add a bit to the game of varying amounts and value. sometimes good sometimes meh...
anyway.. i lost my concentration.. and forgot where i was going with it...
*walks out of topic*

Ooooh! Exiting news.
EA is a controversial company. They have greedy corporate strategies, day one DLC-s, DLC-s for buy allready on the disk etc etc. Its irritating, but one thing is for sure. THey do produce AA stuff. With Star Wars, if they can make good games, I dont care if they want to bleed my wallet a little bit for it.
This is good. And remember, Bioware works for these guys... KOTOR...
please....... Battlefront 3 and KOTOR 3.........
thats all I want for Sithmass.
