The Jedi Safe Haven was originally built as the Jedi Academy of Belkadan by Aerandir Calmcacil when he originally settled on the world. It began as a simple bunker, populated with a small group teachers and students brought to the world by Aerandir. When more students and staff were added, it was expanded to accommodate the growth of the Academy.
During the Plague War, the Academy had been badly damaged due to multiple skirmishes that took place there, so the Academy was completely rebuilt where the old Academy once stood. This building was more expansive, with better, more state-of-the-art facilities and a stronger foundation. But this building also fell victim to an attack, damaging the outer wall of the Academy. This attack was what led the Jedi of Belkadan to relocate, finding a new home on the world of Felucia.
But the Academy was not left to ruin. It was restored, all damage repaired, and the walls fortified. A small staff still remains to tend to its upkeep, and the Academy now stands as a Safe Haven to all Jedi across the galaxy, a place to rest or to train or meditate in relative peace, far removed from the rest of the galaxy.

So, this was the Jedi Academy of Belkadan that Aerandir Calmcacil had set up. It looked like a lovely building, set upon a hill and overlooking a small lake. As he approached, he could see that a stretch of open field connected the "Safe Haven" to a much larger lake in the distance, and to a great pasture to the west. All this was surrounded by forest. It was a beautiful sight to behold. Why would Aerandir ever want to leave this place?
When hailing the Safe Haven, the man gave his name and a brief history, and was cleared to land. He then landed in the hangar, surprised at the relative lack of vessels, though he supposed that was due to the place being designated as a "Safe Haven" rather than an actual Academy.
Leaving his ship, an aide greeted him, welcoming him to the Academy. The man didn't bother asking about Aerandir just yet, instead asking for a place to stay and a brief tour of the haven. He was granted both, shown to where he could stay for the night, and then shown around the facility. Aerandir had built an impressive complex, even more impressive than the one at home. He would have to compliment the Jedi, when he next saw him at least.
For now, he was content to step outside, to the small lake the haven overlooked. It was a peaceful scene, with an overlook and a single, large tree sitting upon it. The man walked up beneath the tree, within its shade, and sat down cross-legged. Here would be a wonderful place to meditate, and relax after the long journey. He closed his eyes and gave himself over to the will of the Force. Now was the time for peace...

*Michelle almost felt nostalgic as the shuttle descended over the familiar surface of Belkadan, over the treetops overlooking the pasture beyond. They swooped high above the Control Bunker, where they once lived, and sailed toward the Academy, where they spent the remainder of their days on Belkadan.
Michelle slowed the ship and brought it lower, towards the hangar. The wings folded upward as it sailed neatly into the hangar, Michelle picking out an open lot and setting down within it. She went through all the post-flight checkups, Ar-Three here and there providing guidance, though guidance Michelle didn't need, so she playfully waved off the droid with a smile.* I know, I know! This isn't my first time flying! *Ar-Three expressed indignation, though whether this was serious or similarly playful Michelle could not tell. Annabelle frowned concernedly for the droid, which only made Michelle laugh softly. Sometimes she took that whole "concern for everyone's well-being" thing a little too far.* Come on, Belle-Belle, let's go see our old home. *At these words, Annabelle looked at Michelle with a smile as the two of them unstrapped themselves, took their traveling bags, and headed towards the ship's ramp.* =Annabelle= I wish the others would have come with us, but it'll still be nice to see our old home. *Michelle smiled as she lowered the ship's ramp and began to descend it, Annabelle and Ar-Three following.* It already feels good to be back. If it gets too boring, we can see if Michael wants to come or if anyone else does. If not, we can go home. *Annabelle nodded as they entered the halls of the Safe Haven. It was the same as it always was, like they'd never left. The first thing the girls did was locate their old quarters, which had been set aside for the Calmcacil family should they ever wish to return for a visit. After standing there for a moment, looking around and imagining that they'd just come home from a lesson, they headed towards their room. It was the same as it always was, and it was here that the girls deposited their things for the moment.* So... where to first? *Annabelle glanced toward the window, which was blocked by the shades. With a gesture, she made them open, letting the sun pour in. Smiling, she looked back at her sister.* =Annabelle= We could go to the lake out back and sit over the overlook like we used to. *Michelle grinned.* I'd like that. *And so the two of them departed their quarters, heading towards the rear entrance that led to the lesser lake and overlook. However, as they exited the Academy building and headed toward the overlook, they noticed someone was already there and stopped. Annabelle started to turn away.* =Annabelle= We can come back later. There's still lots of other things we can do! *But Michelle didn't turn. She'd taken a second look, and she recognized this man. Hadn't seen him in some time, but she knew him well. Still, she had to be certain.
So she called out his name.* Bruce?

Serenity. This was a lovely atmosphere, especially for Jedi. Where could Aerandir possibly relocate to that was more peaceful than this? In Bruce's mind, that was only possible if he found a world that resembled the halls of various religious heavens as depicted in art. Okay, so perhaps maybe that was giving this world too much credit. But this was still a lovely place, a lovely sight, a wonderful location for basking in the Force's vastness.
But then he heard a voice, a child's, calling out. A single word: His name. Hm? He opened his eyes, turning at the waist in order to see his visitor. Standing a little distance away were two girls, about ten or eleven, both with blond hair. They looked nearly identical to each other, though one had shorter hair and was dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, whereas the other had much longer hair and was wearing a dress.
Bruce would recognize them anywhere.
He smiled. Michelle! Annabelle! So good to see you! He got to his feet, turning to face them, hands spread in greeting. I'd heard that Aerandir no longer lived here on Belkadan. What brings you here?
Bruce hadn't expected to run into anyone he knew so quickly. He supposed he could consider this a blessing, for the twins would have lived here and would know their way around. And could possibly connect him to Aerandir, as well.
Annabelle he remembered being the quiet type, who normally kept to herself or her friends and family, though was always very polite and helpful when she was capable of lending her aid. Michelle was far more involved, and thus was more well-known by the Temple at home. She knew most of the Council pretty well, and it was common knowledge that she was quite advanced in all her lessons.
It had been too long since he'd seen the two of them; they were still young, but they were still so much bigger than before. He wondered how the rest of the family was doing, but for now, that could wait.

*As soon as the man turned and Michelle could more clearly see his face, she grinned as she realized that this was indeed Bruce himself. She waited until he smiled and greeted them before she ran forward, then stopped a few feet away from Bruce, Annabelle quickly catching up. Michelle gave him a polite bow, Annabelle following her example with a curtsy. When Bruce revealed he'd learned they no longer lived here and asked what brought them here, Michelle only smirked playfully.* I should ask you the same question. *Annabelle looked at her sister accusingly.* =Annabelle= Michelle! *Michelle laughed before looking sideways at her sister with a grin.* It's just a joke, Belle-Belle! *Normally, Annabelle was aware of her jokes, and inwardly, Michelle was surprised at her reaction. Maybe it was the fact that they hadn't seen Bruce in a long time, and Annabelle figured he'd need some help finding his way around. Maybe it was because she didn't actually know Bruce that well, and figured Michelle might have been the same. Either way, she seemed to relent her expression, and Michelle looked back to Bruce.* Well, we live on Felucia now, but I wanted to come visit Belkadan again, so me and Belle-Belle came with Ar-Three, my brother's astromech. I guess the Force was telling us to come meet you so we can tell you where we all live now! *Michelle giggled, then continued.* I'm surprised you didn't know. I mean, we did destroy the Earth Empire here, after all, then moved to Felucia right after because the Academy got badly damaged. We knew people there, there's a Jedi Base there, and Morgan, well, it's a long story, but she connected to the planet, and she loved it there, so we also kind of moved there for her sake as well. *Michelle allowed for a brief pause, then slightly tilted her head to the side.* Was that too confusing?

Bruce smiled, not at all offended by Michelle's joke, despite Annabelle's protests. He remembered her as the polite type, and perhaps she thought the statement was rude. Michelle defended her position and Annabelle seemed to relent, before explaining that they now lived on the world of Felucia, but had come here for a visit, then suggested it was the will of the Force. Bruce chuckled as Michelle laughed; perhaps it was indeed.
As far as the destruction of the Earth Empire, well, Bruce was indeed aware of this, but not that the Jedi had relocated to Felucia. So, he was as surprised to learn this info as Michelle was that he didn't know. The reasoning she'd given for the relocation was that the Academy had been badly damaged, and they'd known people who ran a Jedi Base on Felucia... and that Morgan loved the planet and had "connected" to it. Bruce raised an eyebrow. Felucia was a world known for its richness in the Force. And Morgan had managed to directly connect with the world?
Not too surprising. That girl was incredible sometimes, after all.
When Michelle asked if it was too confusing, Bruce laughed and shook his head. Not at all, I understand completely. At least, your summary. I imagine the full story is more complex though. Bruce paused for a moment, then began to give his story. Well, I'd come here since it's been so long since I'd been in contact with, well, any of you. I thought I could drop in and surprise you all, but no one was here. Well, until you two showed up, of course. You look well, by the way. Still excelling in your training?
He was, of course, mostly referring to Michelle; Annabelle he'd never heard been commended for her abilities, only for her lovely personality, whereas Michelle had been known to nearly everyone as an advanced child in nearly every aspect of her training. She was agile, quick-minded, sharp-witted, skilled with a blade, and tactical. She was the pride of the Temple, and Aerandir would often speak highly of her, predicting a quick ascension through the Jedi ranks. Morgan may have been well-known for being powerful in the Force, but it was Michelle they spoke most of for being skillful.

*It was actually a bit of a relief that the summary of Morgan's newfound connection was something Bruce could understand, though when he noted that it was likely the full story was "more complex," Michelle wanted to say just how much of an understatement that was. She didn't, mostly because she didn't want Annabelle to take it the wrong way again.
Then he gave his own story, and it was actually quite simple: He had merely wanted to show up and visit old friends, they just weren't here as expected. Well, her and Annabelle were, but that was beside the point. Either way, it was good to see him; Michelle felt nostalgic already. He then said that they looked well, both of them acknowledging with a smile and a "thank you," before asking if they were excelling in their training.
Michelle immediately felt guilty that he assumed he was talking about her. Of course, maybe she couldn't help it: Everyone around her had always showered her with praise and compliments, as well as their expectations she'd more than often been able to meet and surpass. Maybe she was just used to it so expected such talk to be about her, not that she held herself in higher regard in her own mind than anyone else. That was anything but the case. She only relaxed when Annabelle looked at her expectantly; clearly she thought the same thing. Realizing she was now tense, she settled a little, smiled, and spoke.* Well, I've been doing okay, if that's what you meant. *She giggled softly. Even though she acknowledged her skills in her thoughts, she never wanted to seem like she was bragging on the outside. She was competitive, sure, but not that kind of competitive. She then gave Annabelle an expectant look, as though implying the question had been for both of them, despite both their obvious expectations. Her eyes widened a bit as they shared a bit of silent communication:
"He was talking to you!"
"Hush, Belle-Belle! He was talking to both of us."
"No, he said 'excelled.' I don't excel, Michelle."
"Oh c'mon, you and I both know Bruce isn't rude enough to only ask one of us how our training is. And you do too!"
"I... But..."
"Belle-Belle..."
"... okay, fine."
Both girls looked back at Bruce, their little "conversation" over, and Annabelle smiled as she gave another little curtsy.* =Annabelle= And I've been doing well too, thank you for asking. *And then she gave Michelle another look. "Happy?"
Michelle only grinned. "Yes."* So Bruce, you got a place to stay? I'm sure I could hook you up if I needed to. We're Calmcacils after all, our name means a lot here. *Annabelle shook her head, looking between Michelle and Bruce.* =Annabelle= Just Michelle, not me. I don't have any authority like that. *Michelle started to frown.* Well... *Then she grinned and nodded.* Yeah, she's right this time. *The twins shared a smile and a laugh, then watched Bruce as they waited for his answer.*

Bruce smiled at Michelle's modest reply, then watched as the two girls exchanged a look. His intuition didn't fail him; he knew the two were having a silent exchange. It was a wonderful trait, honestly, one Bruce had to admit a little jealousy of, sharing a connection with someone so strong you can have conversations with each other just by looking at each other. He didn't know what they were speaking of, but when Annabelle spoke, saying she'd been doing well in her training, he knew: Both of them had expected the question to only be for Michelle, and Michelle was nudging Annabelle to answer as well.
They were such wonderful sisters.
Michelle then asked if he had a place to say, saying she could take care of that if she needed, Annabelle having to clarify that only Michelle had that kind of authority. Bruce was impressed; Michelle could arrange things like that? She must have had quite the reputation then. He smiled, then shook his head. No thank you. I've already got my quarters set up. I'd appreciate a tour, though. He continued to smile again. It was truly good to see them again, and he was eager to eventually reacquaint himself with his former comrades as well. One thing at a time, though. Obviously the girls had come to get away for a bit, so it would be out of the question to lead him straight to Felucia. And he was now debating whether he should keep his presence a secret until he arrived to keep it a surprise, or get in contact with them ahead of time...

*Michelle nodded when Bruce announced he already had quarters arranged for him, but noted he'd "appreciate a tour." Happy to oblige, Michelle and Annabelle both agreed to show him around, giving him the grand tour of the former Jedi Academy of Belkadan in order to help him get acquainted with the place and his temporary new home. Later, they could catch up. As for Michelle, she wasn't exactly in a rush to let her brother know Bruce was here, preferring instead to hopefully surprise him. Unless Bruce had other ideas, that was. Either way, she was intent on enjoying her little "vacation" here on Belkadan, along with Annabelle and Bruce, and would return home in a few days.*

Bruce could not be certain how the cougar attacks on the academy compared to elsewhere on the planet, but they seemed highly sporadic; at most times, the amount of feline assailants was small, and there were often lulls between attacks, but other times brought larger forces and required greater resistance from the few Jedi capable of fending them away from the establishment. Fortunately, they were a competent enough of a fighting force, suffering minor injuries at the worst, injuries they were able to work through with concentration; some were small enough that they could be healed in the midst of battle.
But the numbers that coincided with the most current attack were far beyond anything they'd seen so far, and it admittedly gave Bruce some worry; even if they could hold their own outside, many could very realistically slip through their defenses and into the safe haven. There were children in there, vulnerable children, and their defenses were sparse as it was. There were no troops on hand to summon, and it was likely the troops scattered about Kodeiv and stationed at the control bunker had their own issues to deal with.
But as it stood, they needed help. The cougars were attacking in large groups, forcing the Jedi defenders to move very quickly and chain together several attacks, whether with their blades or with the Force. Bruce had to call for aid; even if none was immediately available, he had to try. If he could only find a moment to reach his commlink...

*The borrowed speeder rushed along the expansive pasture that connected Kodeiv to the control bunker and the Jedi "Safe Haven." Even out here, cougars roamed, some in hunting parties, others in groups as though holding strategy meetings. Potential threats later... threats that had to be neutralized.
Keith glanced behind him toward the mounted turbolaser on the back of the speeder.* "I know what you're thinking," *Corinne interjected,* "and yes, I'll drive."
*Despite the situation, Keith allowed himself a small smile as he interfaced the palm of his hand to allow the AI to upload into the speeder's systems.* "Circle back around," *he directed as he climbed out of the seat towards the gun.* "The academy may need us, but it's best we remove these potential threats ahead of time."
"Understood," *came the reply from the speeder's radio speakers, as Keith slipped into the gunner's position and brought the turret online. His HUD once more displayed a targeting reticle as well as energy readings. The speeder came back around towards the groups of cougars they'd passed earlier, who'd only simply glanced in their direction before seemingly deciding they weren't worth chasing after.
But now they found themselves fired upon by gatling shots, repeated blasts of energy right in their midst. They yelped and yowled and roared in fury at their new assailant as their comrades fell, but Keith fired on in controlled bursts, making sure not a single one survived. The turret had come dangerously close to overheating a time or two, forcing them to beat a brief retreat to allow the gun's coolant to do its job, then they circled back around to allow Keith better aim at the ferocious felines.
The cycle would continue until any and all groups of cougars visible along their way were eliminated, though ones Keith deemed too far out of the way were left alone... for now. Finally they could see the Academy in the distance, perched upon its small hill overlooking the lesser lake behind it. They were almost there, but Keith could not allow himself reverie; the unmistakable flashes and glares of lightsaber movement were visible even from a far distance, as well as a large reddish-brown mass moving like waves about the Jedi defenders.
Keith could have fired, but he dared not risk bringing harm to the Jedi with such a large weapon that was not as easily controlled as his guns. So instead he climbed back into the driver's seat, regaining the controls as he reuploaded Corinne back into his armor.* "Here at last," *she murmured.
Keith said nothing, preparing his automatic slug rifle as they approached faster and faster. Finally, he brought the vehicle to a swinging stop before leaping from the driver's seat, hitting the ground on his shoulders, and rolling up to a crouch, rifle free and aiming into the crowd. Controlled bursts were fired at the outer edges, dropping cougar after cougar. A handful rushed at him from one side; he coolly drew his pistol and dropped the lot of them with headshots, taking out a few others near his position in the same manner before reloading and holstering the pistol, returning to his rifle to mow through the crowds.
His arrival provided a distraction, it seemed, for while the cougars shifted focus to a new and deadlier target, the Jedi were able to take advantage and mow down the nearby distracted ones. Keith recognized one of them as the man who'd sent the call for aid, but he otherwise only recognized others from appearance alone; he was never acquainted with these Jedi, and there were no Calmcacils present.
A concern for later. With his efforts added to theirs, they were able to overwhelm the surprisingly-large force of cougars, and eventually all had fallen to blade and bullet. Keith stood above the smoking, stinking carnage and scanned toward the woods and pasture, his motion tracker not picking up any movement within range. It seemed they had protected the Academy... for now. Would there be more later?
Lowering his rifle, Keith turned toward the Jedi gathered, particularly the man who'd sent the call. As he approached, he glanced up at the Academy. The walls... there were clear signs of recent repair. Had something happened here? Did that explain why the Calmcacils weren't present? Putting that thought aside, he turned his attention towards the man from the call.* "Bruce Terry, I take it," *he addressed the man, recalling his name from the holo message.* "Name's Keith." *He assumed the man would want to thank him, but first, Keith had information he himself wished to know.* "Where is Master Calmcacil?"

Between the roars of the cougars and the heat of battle, Bruce hadn't heard the distant whine of an approaching speeder until it was large enough to see approaching. Reinforcements? He hoped so, but did not have time to efficiently scan the vessel to see who might be approaching. He spared the briefest of extensions through the Force towards the oncoming vehicle, but he only sensed one living being... Was this it? Bruce could take all the help he could get, certainly, but only one man as reinforcement?
But soon their single savior had entered the battle, drawing a rifle and firing upon the cougar. His entrance created a distraction, affording Bruce time to finally see who had come to their aid: A large, tall, fully-armored soldier, who seemed to clearly know what he was doing. It also allowed Bruce and the other Jedi defenders time to mow into the shocked crowd of felines.
Bruce smiled to himself, amused; he should have known better than to doubt the Force's gifts.
With the soldier's help, the team managed to eradicate the entire cougar force present, and, after a lull when both parties seemed to be determining whether the coast was clear, Bruce was satisfied they had safety. For the moment. For now, he deactivated his weapon, the others following suit, as the soldier approached them, rifle at ease. The soldier, after seeming to take interest in the building itself, directed his visored gaze to Bruce and spoke to him in a deep voice, addressing him by name; recognized it from the call for aid, no doubt. He then introduced himself as Keith, before asking where Aerandir was.
Bruce had already wondered the origins of this man. His armor was unlike anything Bruce had seen, his skills were quite impressive, and he was familiar with Aerandir? Curious, but Bruce crossed his arms and replied, "Felucia. Well, not at the moment, he's on assignment, but he and his family relocated to the jungle world a couple of years ago following an attack on this academy from Sith. Fortunately, they were eradicated, but the building suffered some damage; he figured the most efficient course of action was to join up with the Jedi there. He's even become their new headmaster."
Bruce examined the man for a moment, attempting to get a read on his emotions and thoughts. They were surprisingly well-guarded for a non-sensitive, but there was nothing about this man that indicated any sort of threat to him or those present. Though Bruce did seem to sense a second consciousness..
"Master Terry," the female Iktotchi on Bruce's left spoke, "I know of this man. He was a resident of Belkadan and aided our forces for many years, before leaving for a time." She then directed her attention to the soldier, giving a short bow and saying, "It is good to see you again, and you've returned at a most fortunate time."
Ah, so this was this man's tale, and why he knew Aerandir... There was no doubt more to the tale still, but these words and Keith's actions were sufficient for Bruce to place his trust in the soldier. Nodding, Bruce added, "Indeed, your aid is most welcome, thank you greatly. It seems that, at present, we're safe here, but I'm sure your aid could be used elsewhere; I can very quickly determine where," he concluded as he drew his commlink.

*Felucia? He knew that world all too well, as well as Morgan's fantastic tales of it being "alive," and somehow becoming her mother. He at first hadn't been sure what to think nor whether to believe her story, but when Morgan had fallen to the false demon Psallo Kyrie, the spirit of the world had somehow preserved her spirit and mended her body, returning the girl to the world of the living when the time was right. That was when he had believed. And Keith himself... he'd trekked through the jungle on a whim, only to lead him to a dark tower, created by an actual demon. He'd inserted himself into the battle being waged there, aiding in the successful destruction of the monster's forces and its containment.
But it seemed the Calmcacil family had moved there completely, due to an attack by Sith. Sith they'd defeated, but not before they'd inflicted damage to the academy. Aerandir had apparently decided to simply relocate there, and that now explained why he was not the one who called for aid, and why the academy was now referred to as a "safe haven." That was no doubt good for Morgan, who clearly loved it there, and it certainly eased Keith's mind.
The Iktotchi beside Bruce briefly explained to the man who Keith was, which confirmed to Keith that the man before him was not originally of Belkadan, or at least hadn't been present during Keith's lengthy stay. The Iktotchi then gave a bow and a welcome to Keith, who returned it with a nod. He did the same as Bruce nodded to him, offering his thanks before reaching for his commlink, suggesting there were other areas that could use his aid. Shaking his head, Keith replied,* "I've just come from clearing out Kodeiv. For now, the threat is neutralized. According to reports, the control bunker is also sufficiently defended. For now, I'm content to wait for an assessment of the situation; I'm here to aid for as long as Belkadan needs me.
"I'm up to date on all current reports," *he added for further clarification.* "The cougars seemingly have been reproducing in large numbers in secret, then began attacking the populace of Belkadan. There have been scattered incidents leading up to the full outbreak, including corpses discovered in the woods, undiscovered until it was too late to warn us of an outbreak. Military and Jedi have fought back, defending their outposts and civilization, and a call for aid was sent to anyone that would answer.
And that leads us to now. Let's find out where we stand; we've clearly done a number on them already." *He gestured with nods toward the cougar corpses surrounding them, then concluded,* "I'm sure there can't be much left, but I'm ready to be put where I'm needed once we know what's left that we're up against."

Oh? The man had just come from Kodeiv, and had neutralized the threat there? That was very good news indeed. And he even had done his research regarding the resurgence of the cougars, accurately detailing the reports explaining the most likely theory as to their return in such great numbers, as well as the planet's defensive response up until his arrival. He then offered his service for as long as it was needed; judging by what he had done so far and what Bruce had just seen, he was very grateful for that. "Very well then," he replied with a nod and turned toward the building's entrance, "let's listen to the reports..."
----
Some time had elapsed, and with Keith's aid, as well as other additional aid brought to the world, they were able to at last fight off the hordes, and no more sightings were reported. There had still been a lot of cleanup to do, removal of corpses, both cougar and sentient. Medical aid for the wounded. Clearing of debris, and repair of property. Bruce and Keith had lent their aids to any and all relief efforts they were capable of, burying the dead and burning piles of cougar corpses that were of incredible height.
Ships scoured the terrain, researchers and biologists who were astounded by the cougar resurgence and drawn to the planet by the news. Their enthusiasm irritated Bruce a tad; many were dead and there was significant property damage, and the first thing on their minds were the cougars themselves. Still, having their expertise present was a blessing regardless. With their help, they could perhaps ensure habitation for the cougars, without risk of another uprising.
And now Bruce sat in his office, reading over one of the most recent reports when he felt a presence—nay, two—on the edge of his mind. A few moments later, a timid knock was heard on the frame of the entrance, followed by a tanned head of dark hair. "Master Terry?" a girl's voice spoke. "May we come in?"
Smiling kindly, Bruce nodded. "Of course." When the Lorrdian girl and her blond Farghul accomplice entered the room, he asked, "What do you need?"
The girl folded her hands in front of her, fidgeting with her fingers for a moment before finally responding, "W-we just wanted to say thank you for saving us! It was stupid for us to go out in the forest so far by ourselves, and if you hadn't come to save us, we'd have been kitty kibble!" The Farghul seemed to take exception at that last bit, but she only continued, "We won't go out there again, honest!"
She seemed sincere in her expression, but when the Farghul remained quiet, she nudged him in the ribs with her elbow. After a soft yelp, he frowned at her, then looked upon Bruce and added, "Yes, sir. We're both very sorry. It won't happen again!"
Bruce rose from his seat, the children flinching slightly as though expecting reprimand. But when he approached them, he only knelt before them, placing his hands on their shoulders gently with a reassuring smile. "There was no way you could have known what lay in wait. Belkadan has been peaceful for many years. But Ashla was looking out for you; that's why she sent me to find you.
"Though I suppose," he continued, standing and folding his hands behind his back as he looked down upon them, "next time, alert an instructor where you're going before leaving the base."
"Yes, sir!" The girl nodded enthusiastically, before again looking at a silent Farghul.
He quickly took the hint, and, unless he face another elbow to the rib, repeated, "Yes, sir!"
Smiling, Bruce replied, "Good. But take solace in the fact that I don't think you'll be troubled with the cougars any longer..."

*The academy had seemed largely unchanged on the surface. The rebuilt section, though largely the same as it had been before, was still obviously new, the finish standing out as immaculate next to the establishment's more-aged walls. Some of its design seemed to have been partially updated as well, utilizing some newer design philosophies for convenience's sake. But other than this stand-out portion of the Academy, everything was just as he'd remembered it.
Except it was empty. There was still a skeleton crew staff and even a handful of younglings that still lived and trained here, but there were few known faces here. He had grown used to far more activity, instructors heading toward their next lesson, residents milling about, students traveling in groups or in small gaggles about the building, but now there was near none of that. He'd half-expected to have heard Morgan calling his name from around a corner, to see her appear in front of him, smiling radiantly as she ran to greet him.
But he would see no such image. Soon, he was sure. Once he reached Felucia, they would cross paths once more. And he would reach there soon, for he'd concluded the work he'd allowed himself to be assigned to here. Bodies were moved, repairs were made, and the cougars were, at present, no longer a threat, or at least would be no match for the world's remaining defense forces. It meant he was free at last to take his leave, and he was now on his way to the office of Master Terry. Or "Bruce," as he'd preferred to be called. At some point Keith had learned that his man actually instructed Aerandir as a student. They certainly shared the preference for a first-name basis.
Keith heard voices coming from the office, Bruce's own, along with that of children. When Keith appeared in the doorway, he saw Bruce standing with two children of perhaps ten years. Keith recognized them; they were the first of the Jedi to have made first contact with the cougars, and had suffered injuries but were recovering well thanks to the efforts of a healer who'd answered the call for aid.*
"Sorry to interrupt," *he announced, attention on Bruce,* "but now I take my leave. If there's anything else I can do for Belkadan, you'll know how to contact me."

Keith had suddenly appeared in the office, causing the two children to whirl with a gasp before they looked up at him in awe. They were familiar with him, of course, but seeing him this close was almost like meeting a legend. A legend who was leaving... a bit of a disappointment, but they still got to see him!
"Very well," Bruce answered with a nod. "Thank you again for everything. You're welcome here any time."
Even though the soldier could mask his feelings well, Bruce could still sense something of an urgency in the soldier's desire to meet with Aerandir on Felucia. Bruce could not be certain what it could be, but perhaps it was merely a desire to meet with old comrades once more. He did not question it, instead only extending his hand to the man in a final farewell. And Bruce truly was grateful; the fate of Belkadan could have been far more grim had he not returned at the right moment...

*Bruce's response was a quick and simple one. Efficiency. It worked for Keith. The Jedi extended his hand, which Keith regarded for a brief moment before taking, shaking with a light grip; though he knew the Jedi in general to be of shockingly firm group when they shook hands, he still knew that the full force of his grip would have been more than enough to crush their hand. Learning to shake the average sentient's hand had been something instilled in him ages ago.
Giving the children a nod, something that seemed to please them, he turned and departed the building. He'd known this place as a home for so long, but now he was leaving it behind. And yet, he felt no remorse in doing so. Perhaps it wasn't Belkadan that was the home to him...
He had dropped from his ship in a pod, meaning he had needed to secure an escort to his ship in orbit. Fortunately, he practically had volunteers lining up to do him this small favor, something that didn't go unappreciated by Keith. Before long, he had reunited with his ship, and, after Corinne checked its systems to make sure everything was intact and the ship was fueled for the journey, coordinates were input for Felucia and the ship vanished into hyperspace...*

The talks had went well, the local government agreeing to lend what little support they could to whatever came of the Jedi Calmcacil's attempts at building an alliance of independent worlds to stand against whatever the Imperial might be planning. They'd known Aerandir well, after all, though admitted they weren't sure how much help they would be, backwater world that they were; perhaps a place for refugees, but their military was minimal and would likely be of more use at home than abroad.
Bruce assured them that he would give the news to Aerandir and give them an update later, if not from Aerandir himself. He also made it known that more Jedi were expected soon, taking shelter here preemptively from a potential attack on their unguarded home. The government seemed pleased at the idea of a boost in Jedi numbers; Bruce couldn't entirely blame them, he supposed.
He just hoped the bad feeling in the back of his head wasn't a sign of anything major...

Bruce had been walking through the halls of the temple when he had felt the first prick in the back of his mind. It had made him wince and he slowed to a stop, expression faltering. Then another, and another. He suddenly felt weary and fell to a knee, hand clutching at his forehead. Emotions overwhelmed him, shock, determination, fear, desperation... darkness. The Jedi of Deralia, overwhelmed by an unexpected force. And in the heart of it all...
"Ja-... cob..."
He grunted the name like a curse, but was unable to lift himself to his feet. That was his home! His people! And they were falling to the blade of one whom they'd once called their comrade! Bruce had been right to invite them to Belkadan, but he may have done so too late. And now they were paying the price for his own failure...
"Damn you..."
"Master Terry?!" The young voice was accompanied by the sound of two pairs of boots clacking against the stone floor hurriedly toward the Jedi Master. Bruce looked up, hand hovering in place, as he recognized the sight of the Lorrdian girl Janie and her Farghul friend Hssan, their faces wrought with concern. It was Janie who had spoken, and, slowing her approach as she neared him, she spoke again. "Are you alright?!"
"I'm fine," was the normal lie. But Bruce, expression grim, slowly shook his head. "No..." He pushed himself to his feet with some struggle, the girl and boy seeming to want to aid him but were unsure how. Grunting again, Bruce glowered at the floor by his feet. "There... has been a tragedy. I fear it may be the sign of worse to come." The children, understandably, didn't seem to take well to this news. Bruce couldn't even force a reassuring smile; all he had were hollow words. "Fear not. The dead are not truly lost. We'll have an answer for the crimes of our enemies."
Feeling unable to be a positive presence in front of the children at the moment, Bruce turned and walked away without another word. The children watched him depart, feeling conflicted in whether or not to follow after him, but ultimately deciding to stay put. They were deeply troubled; seeing the Master unsettled in this way could mean nothing good. And Bruce? Even he wasn't sure what to do at that moment.

The Councilors' Chambers, once upon a time meeting grounds of the small ruling Council of the Belkadan Academy, and had a time or two played host to a gathering of the Jedi Order's finest, now essentially reduced to a mere conference room. Today, a somber conference was being held, between Bruce Terry, steward of the Safe Haven; Joey Dionne, one of three survivors of the Deralia Jedi Temple massacre; and the holographic image of Aerandir Calmcacil, founder and once headmaster of the Safe Haven when it was once an Academy. The latter regarded Bruce with a nod before immediately taking notice of the man with him.
"Joey. Please tell me some good news," he requested, barely masking the desperation in his voice.
Joey winced, bit his lip, then curled his fingers into fists. Bruce watched him for a moment, then answered for him, "There were only three survivors. Maggy Dawson and Shari Zel have been given a place to rest while we made to contact you."
The news didn't seem to please Aerandir in the slightest as he bowed his head in what seemed like defeat. There was no doubt in Bruce's mind he had sensed the devastation at Deralia, and even more certain was he that the two men weren't the only ones who'd felt it.
"You were right," Joey droned, staring at the ground. "It was Jacob. The rodder marched in with his 'Knights of Ren' and torched the place. Artura, Tom Mark, even..." He trailed off as his voice choked. Aerandir immediately realized what was wrong and his eyes widened before Joey completed, "Even Damian." Silence fell for a moment, as the other two Masters seemed to contemplate what to say. Before they could, Joey, voice still choked up, continued, "I know how you feel now, Aerandir."
Aerandir's mouth opened silently before he shook his head and forced words out, vainly reaching out toward the man with his right hand. "Joey, no..."
But Joey concluded, "What it's like, to lose a student you cared for." Bruce looked upon him, just catching a glimpse of the glimmer in his eyes before he wiped it away in vain with his sleeve. He coughed out an insincere laugh, forcing a grin as he looked away. "But I guess you still win; I won't be Knighting any Padawans before you after all."
"Joey..." Aerandir's voice was quiet and uncertain, with a touch of pain as well. His form seemed to have been drooping, but he suddenly straightened, arm at last falling to his side. "Jamie was fully aware of the risks when he threw his life on the line to save mine. If he hadn't, both of us may have been killed. He knew this and died without regrets." His holographic form looked Joey firmly but comfortingly in the eyes. After a pause, he stated, "I'm sure Damian did the same."
Bruce's eyes moved from Aerandir to Joey once more, watching the latter absorb Aerandir's attempt at consolation. Joey's face seemed to shift through several different emotions, as though he were unsure how to respond. After a few moments, he groaned and put his head in his hands, backing up and plopping down into one of the cushioned seats in the room. Silence reigned, then, slightly-muffled through his hands, Joey's voice came through. "He still didn't deserve it!" He lowered his hands and looked up, revealing his face had been taken over by a scowl. "Betrayed by a Master he used to respect, one that was our comrade, even if he was a bit of a jackass! At least the guy that killed Jamie was some evil nut, not someone who used to be part of our circle!"
He glowered for a moment longer before his expression started to falter. Before it could fully give way, he buried his face in his hands again.
Aerandir pursed his lips, then spoke. "Jacob's really no different than the man who killed Jamie. They were both deceived into becoming something they weren't, both twisted for an evil purpose. Jamie's murderer could have very well had friends and allies once, ones that disagreed with the person he became."
"Whatever you say won't help." Joey's voice was again muffled, but it didn't mask the fact that it was once more difficult for him to speak.
Aerandir seemed to respect this and remained silent. The silence persisted for a few moments, interrupted only by the sounds of Joey's sadness, before Bruce broke it, reporting, "It seems that, in some capacity, none other than Sheriff Dawson himself was responsible."
"What?" Aerandir interjected, in clear and appropriate disbelief.
Bruce nodded grimly, but it was Joey who looked up, tear-stained face once more scowling. "Piece of filth sold us all out! The Jedi were framed, set up, someone went on a destruction spree in the city and Dawson brought that rodder on us to wipe us all out! No trial, no investigation, just 'Hi, we want you dead now.'"
Aerandir was clearly stunned by this unexpected development; indeed, Bruce himself could hardly believe it, but Maggy herself had confirmed it. It was he who Aerandir spoke of, as his first words after a short silence were, "And yet Maggy is here?"
"She felt betrayed," Bruce answered. "There was clear distress when she corroborated Joey's story."
"John never seemed too keen on the idea of letting her train, but to go so far as to send in some Sith wannabes after us?" Aerandir contemplated his thoughts for a moment, then continued, "His mother was an incredible woman and wise Jedi. What could have turned him against the Jedi arts?"
"Ask his kid," Joey scoffed.
Bruce frowned, then sighed. "I agree, but at a later time. She only gave a brief account before it was too painful to continue. She needs time to recuperate, and I'm grateful she at least has a close friend with her."
Aerandir nodded, adding, "I think you guys should get out of there and come to Felucia. Jacob may suspect you'd travel to Belkadan, but Felucia's dealings aren't exactly well-known. Plus, we're more well-defended here. You could use the peace of mind."
Bruce returned the nod. "That may be for the best." He turned toward Joey. "I myself won't make it a permanent departure, but I'll at least join you for a time." Joey didn't respond, only stared at him. Bruce looked back toward Aerandir. "Expect us soon. I may bring two additional students with me; they'll enjoy the chance to see more of the galaxy."
Aerandir nodded again. "Very well, I'll make the preparation. May the Force be with you. And Joey... stay strong. See you soon."
The hologram disappeared, leaving the two men in silence. Eventually, Joey collected himself and made for his temporary quarters to achieve some rest before departing again so soon. Bruce checked on Maggy and Shari, only to find they had fallen asleep in each other's embrace. He let them be, instead seeking out Janie and Hssan. They were, of course, more than eager to join them on the trip to Felucia, but also they were curious about and concerned for the new arrivals. After Bruce explained briefly what had happened, they seemed shocked, unable to form a response to this news.
When Maggy and Shari had awoken, Bruce informed them of their plans to head to Felucia. Neither one of them objected, especially not Maggy. He allowed them some time to clean up and gather up their belongings once more, before the entire party was prepared to depart for the stars, towards safer territory... and familiar presences.
