For me it looks promising but we will see.

I like the way it looks, it seems nostalgic in a way. I like the specs, they seem promising. The controller looks a bit odd, but the D-pad looks improved, and overall still better than any Sony controller.
There's some things that concern me. No backwards compatibility, but to a lesser extent, since I tend to hoard old consoles anyway, so I'll still have my 360. Then there's some supposed things I have yet to confirm, such as having to pay a fee to play used games, or needing to be online just to register the game before you can play it. The latter won't really be a problem for me, but I can see it being a problem for others. The fee for used games thing seems completely stupid, if true, and may influence whether or not I decide to put off the console and get a Wii U instead, being the Nintendo fanboy I am.

I don't see them following through with the always online, there is just so much wrong with it that they have too see. Plus the fans have man enough of an uproar about it they should know major sales would be lost on that.

True, when they heard about the possibility of the system always having to be online, there was an uproar and Microsoft backtracked. If there's enough of an uproar over some of the other dumb options, then Microsoft will likely backpedal on that too. Hopefully. If they can remove the flaws, then I see the Xbox One as possibly overtaking the race this generation pretty easily, though I foresee that it'll be a heavy battle between it and PS4.

No backwards compatibility... wow just.. wow... need to register games online prior to play... understandable.. though annoying... cant play used games/fee to play used games... uh... *shakes head in a disappointed manor*
... so .. why should i buy this and abandon my computer.. where i can play Seriously old games (dos games anyone???) hows that for backwards compatability
registering games to play them online.. well i do that anyway so no biggie though .. having to be online to play single player is a bit annoying.. i don't care about achievements usually
used games.. well lets see.. I've upgraded my computer 6 times in my life and had to reinstall things.. ohhh wouldn't that make them considered used??? yet.. its still me as an owner.. herm weird how that works aint it?
be easier for these companies to just make a controller.. and make their games based off a computer... (oh wait uh.. duhhh they do .. they just use different reading schemes.. ) Their are already emulators.. add those to controller readers and stuff.. OH look my PC just became a Playstation. Granted ill give it that emulator software tends to be a little dated.. and the necessity to download the games illegally.. ohh but if they sold the games on the PC and designed their own emulator ... hey wait.. don't they already sell digital copies of games.. .. ohh that's right but those versions are programmed (poorly) for the PC.. next they would only need so sell their own emulator software.. but.. oh wait that's right.. they wouldn't be able to sell it for as much as its just software.. and they don't have to make a pretty box for it with a bunch of easily breakable components..
sorry folks.. but just like with the last 5 gaming consoles that came out.. im sticking with my PC... I can upgrade when i want to.. and tho granted i wont be able to play all the latest and greatest Mario kart games... i get a decent selection.. and usually am able to locate an excellent modding community.. that can make ok games great.. and Great games completely epic
quite frankly im better with a mouse and keyboard than a gamepad anyway >.<

I must say that from what I have read that I am not looking forward to any of it. I will of course retain some judgement for when I buy it, because I need my Halo fix.
That said I live in a place where I cant even go on my Xbox Live as it is, so all this supped up internet stuff I could care less about and by the sounds of it that it will need it if only to have it running in the background.
0/10 would not bang.

www.shacknews.com/article/79297/xbox-one-doesnt-require-always-on-connectionThere's no fee for used games, though the new system they're proposing is... intriguing, to say the least. Guess we'll see what they'll have in store later. As for the mandatory installation to harddrive thing, well, the harddrive is 500GB, so that won't be a big deal. Honestly, I don't find backwards compatibility a big deal either; if that's a gamebreaker, then I guess you better get a Wii U, since PS4 won't have backwards either. (Or get a gaming PC but that's beside the point.)

I love it. For those of you concerned with the Backwards compatibility, that should be the least of your worries. If anything it will help with future games, because making it backwards compatible actually lowers the potential. Graphic's among other things suffer in order to make it able to play the older games.. I for one am willing to keep my old 360 to play the older games i love and still get the xbox one.
On the subject of mandatory downloading, i have the 360 Slim and it downloads games in 5 minutes, with the processor that is equipped on the Xbox One it probably takes less time then that so that shouldn't be a problem. Any of you who were watching the reveal today who saw how quickly it switched from movies, to tv, to music, to ESPN and how it ran Internet Explorer side by side with a movie without hindering it's streaming. Should have seen that perhaps it won't be that bad. Plus downloading games should be something you do now since it makes games run so much noticeably smoother.
I understand the skepticism however don't put it down yet, because just from what i have seen if it comes through it will be the best system out there. (In my opinion of course.)

We shall have to see. Aer's news debunking the fee for used games is indeed a step back in the right direction. I am a bit concerned about the backwards compatibility though. That was a pretty nice feature on the 360 and I'd like to see it return. The idea of games becoming obsolete hurts me a little bit on the inside.

I'm not sure I like the whole "complete entertainment" thing they want to push. I don't care about Kinnect, or Hulu, or any of the other stupid apps they keep saying are great. Netflix is enough. If I buy a gaming console, I want it to be for gaming! If I have to be online to play single player games then it'll be a complete no-no. No can do. Here in Manhattan, unless you have Verizon FIOS super net, or some business strength DSL, then your connection is at best temperamental. It'll never go out completely for long, but it'll chug and freeze whenever it wants. Will I have to do lag compensation for non online RPGs? No thank you. Losing progress because some doofus in a server room forgot to switch on the AC before he went to lunch? No thank you.
Backwards comp means nothing to me, since I keep my old stuff until it breaks anyway. No doubt, they'll re-release old titles in the marketplace. E3 will be the deciding factor for me. And they better have some interesting, new IPs other than Battlefield 4, COD Ghost, Forza 5, XCOM 2, Arkham Origins, and Halo 6. If it's mostly sequels then I'll happily say no thanks.

Netflix just lost a TON of material though. They're going the specialty route. I have a feeling Hulu is going to surpass them now because of that. I don't have a problem with "complete entertainment" AS LONG AS it doesn't interfere with the quality of gaming.
As far as BC goes, that's the thing, you keep things until they break. What then? Eventually it'll be really hard to find these consoles. And then there's the fact that multiplayer is completely gone for all those great games. It's just. I wish we could find a way to keep as many games alive as we can.

As far as the online thing, the latest report is that you actually will need to connect once every 24 hours. I'm not sure why this is necessary, but it's a one-time connection check essentially, but it'll lock you out of console features until you're confirmed connected. Really really stupid decision, but with any luck, Microsoft will see the light and remove that necessity before launch.

I wish we could find a way to keep as many games alive as we can. I still have my Playstation 2, and my Gamecube. The older stuff, I was never into/maybe too young to be into and I usually just play PSX games on the PS2. I would plan to keep the 360 to pop in the greater stuff of its time. Dunno, maybe I have luck in that regard, but I get where you are coming from. It seems like the marketplace of both consoles has proven that people will rebuy older games. So maybe stuff won't have to die, but you will have to pay for that retro feel.
Also, Aer, if what you say is true, then I guess a 24 hour "check-in" is manageable, but seems so very silly.

I don't want to pay a fee to play a used game.
I don't want to use my console for anything related to non-gaming. I can do Netflix on my laptop or my iPhone. I can watch live TV on (*gasp*) my TV. If I pay for a videogame console, then I'm only playing fucking videogames.
I don't want to be forced to be online to play single player. What if my internet goes out? Does that mean I'm fucked and can't play?
Screw you, Microsoft.

So, it would be nice if SOME people *cough*postabovemeamongothers*cough* actually did research before pouring their loathing into this thread lol. 1. No fee for used games, this has been confirmed by Microsoft. 2. The new Xbox is, will always be, and always has been meant to be a Multimedia Machine. The target demographic isn't just HC gamers anymore. Don't like it, don't buy it. 3. Xbox One is not "Always On", but it will require 24 hour check-ins to confirm proper ownership and legality of the games being played.
Personally, I think it will be a fine -Multimedia Machine- and will also play most of the games that I personally will be looking forward to playing.

Saw this earlier today, good news, glad they backtracked. I always knew they would with enough criticism. Microsoft isn't stupid. Well, maybe just enough to create initially dumb ideas, but they're not stupid in the sense that they know what their fans want and don't want to lose them, so they'll do what they can without too much of a drastic alteration to their products to improve the experience and win them back.
As for me, this means... that I'll get to take an Xbox One on vacation, I guess.
