Ak-Akari vs. Bloodshot GBA Standard rules.
16- Taris: Dueling Ring
Located in the cantina of the Tarisian Upper City, the dueling ring was a battle arena where inhabitants of the ecumenopolis of Taris could duel to earn credits. The dueling ring was owned and fully-operated by the Hutt crime lord Ajuur, who had ties with Davik Kang, a prominent member of the Exchange. Ajuur personally arranged the fights and often sought match-ups that would be of highest interest to potential spectators. Even though it was sustained through its entertainment value, dueling was considered a viable sport by duelists. The ring is large and round, the floor is made of metal. A large Hutt sits high above the spectators gazing through the windows, as there are no seats, his booming laughter will rain down upon the fighters after every injury that takes place.

Weapons: Collapsible electrostaff Vibrosword with ionite edge DC-17 hand blasters [2, modded for 100 shots each] SH-9 Slugthrower pistols [2] Combat knives [3] Gauntlet vibroblades [12-inch, 2] Flash-bang grenades [2] Stun grenades [2]
The mercenary ignored the applause and screaming spectators as he stepped into the ring, even the voice of the announcer as he droned out his introduction was lost on his ears. He was only here to get paid. And a handsome bounty it is, too. Must not be just any old duelist they're pitting me against. He'd spent the better part of two weeks mowing through the usual riffraff just to get a fight with his current bounty, and he still had no idea what the man even looked like. Still, someone had put a rather large price on the head of the Taris dueling champion, and the mercenary was here to collect.

Ak-Akari walked in to intro music blasting over the speakers, the announcer proclaiming him as the reigning Taris Dueling Champion, the crowd cheering wildly. He waved to the crowd as he stepped into the ring, and then dropped the cloak that covered his battle outfit. He was wearing a full body suit of fairly light armour, barely enough to stop even one blaster shot. Where it excelled was in stealth, changing colour to make an effective camouflage in almost any environment, but that wouldn't be too useful in an area like this, where the audience was paying to see a fight.
He checked his back for his extendible lightspear, making sure the springs in the shaft were still working. he twirled it a couple times for show, the shaft collapsing and extending as he pressed the right buttons near his anchor hand. Finally he activated the blade, a brilliant yellow bathing his side of the arena. He then checked his hips for his dual custom made stun pistols, and his grenade belt. satisfied that his smokes, flash-bangs, and sound decoys (2 each) were all in place he finally turned his attention to the announcer.
"WOULD BOTH FIGHTERS PLEASE READY THEMSELVES! THE FIGHT BEGINS IN 3... 2... 1..."

Right. Time for the testing. The mercenary's right hand drifted down to the grip of the blaster on his right hip as he watched his opponent dance about. Extendable lightspear. Would have been a nasty surprise if he'd kept that a secret until he needed it. He could see the man's outfit fluttering through the normal visible spectrum, but whoever had designed it had apparently forgotten to include ultraviolet light in the shifting patterns and his Umbaran eyes, or at least his right one, tracked the man without much difficulty. A sun-dweller's oversight, no doubt. The HUD covering his left eye registered eight weapons aside from the lightspear, two stun blasters whose power sources managed to fluctuate even when not in use, and six grenades in various non-lethal flavors. The biggest threat then is the lightspear and whatever force powers the man can use. And he could use the force. The mercenary could feel that even from across the arena. The energy in this place had taken a distinctive jump when the man entered, and if that sweet feeling of power had been the scent of food, it would have made his mouth water.
You taste.. good. I'm going to enjoy this. And then he moved, his right hand drawing and leveling the pistol with an ease and speed that was nearly inhuman, a skill derived both from training and his naturally heightened physical capability, and fired four bolts at his opponent, all of which were directed at his center of mass.

Ak-Akari's opponent was fast, to be sure, but he had been expecting something as simple as a drawing gun. He reacted in the same instant as his opponent drew, the tensing of the man's muscles enough of a signal to set him off, hopefully giving Bloodshot no time to adjust his aim on a trick shot like that. It was only a simple two-step to the left, but it should be more than enough to bring him out of danger for now. Ak-Akari simply smiled at his opponent.
"Now, now. You need to give your opponent a chance to reply with witty banter before just up and shooting like that. What are you anyway, 'tasting' me from across the ring? They get the oddest people for these fights."
Ak-Akari didn't push the battle, didn't try to go on the offensive. He simply waited to see how his opponent would react. Reactionary fighting was dangerous to be sure, but he felt confident he could take stock of his opponent and survive long enough to go on the offensive.

The rapid evasion and subsequent lack of counter-attack, while certainly exceedingly fast, was still within the bounds of unaided human capability, and it told the mercenary a great deal about his opponent. He's studying me, probing and testing to see how I'll adapt and come at him next. An experienced fighter who has confidence in his abilities, and knows how to read a body. No unaided human could have avoided that attack by reacting at the sight of the actual draw, and any forewarning the man had received of the impending attack would likely not have come from the force. The mercenary was notoriously difficult to sense in that regard, which meant his opponent was skilled enough at reading others to do it through armor. Something that took a great deal of combat experience. He'll wait and hold back, drawing it out until he knows what I can do. He's fast and agile, but has little defense aside from whatever force powers he knows and those will just feed me.
The mercenary lowered his pistol and spread his arms as he spoke. Would you like to debate philosophy or the arts as well? Perhaps a game of dejarik to pass the time? I'm sure if we linger long enough your benefactor will send in some guards to entertain us. He brought the pistol to bear on his opponent again, centering the aim on his chest once more. Though personally, I see no reason to delay. He did delay though, waiting for a count of two and a half before squeezing the trigger four more times, more than enough time to re-direct his aim should the man dodge as expected.

Ak-Akari did indeed dodge, moving back to his old position. Which is why, when the shots didn't go off, he realised he'd made a mistake and underestimated his opponent's capacity to react to the same trick twice. Instead, Ak-Akari leapt to his back-up plan, knowing he had less than even a second to react, not nearly enough time to dodge again. He brought his free hand up, the thin glove providing next to no protection, and began to focus. Through the Force he would absorb the shots, and then have to release them in some other form. It wasn't ideal, but in this case what else could he do?
No time for banter either, only his opponent's timing on the shots mattered. Sure enough, almost as soon as his hand was up Ak-Akari felt the four bolts slam into his palm, burning through the gloves and the remaining energy soaking into his body. Pain shot through his hand, and he was sure he'd received some burns from the energy he'd failed to absorb, but the sheer Force energy now coursing through him made that seem a distant worry.
He paused for a moment, consolidating on the energy he had taken in, then with a sudden surge of telekinetic energy Ak-Akari pulled the pin from one of his flash-bangs and threw the device faster than a professional pitcher directly at his opponent's center of mass. That was that, a transition of thermal to kinetic energy with barely a moment of stopover in between. There was energy left from the bolts to be sure, but nothing in the lethal level if he held on to it for a few seconds.
But he felt good about his reaction, safe after his previous misstep. It was a simple attack, but should double up between a physical blow and the sensory damage the flash-bang would deal shortly after. Not only that, but should his opponent have some way of interfering with Ak-Akari's force powers (which they so often did these days), a simple throw would be unaffected. He wasn't trying to touch his opponent with the Force at all, just chucking a pound or so of metal at him after all. Not much could go wrong with that.
Something about the masked man's words troubled him though, and with the attack off, Ak-Akari took the time to respond finally.
"My benefactor? What are you talking about?"

It took the length of two shots to realize his opponent's tactic, and there was no time to alter the third, but he twitched his wrist as he squeezed the trigger for the fourth and the shot went wide above and to the right of the man. He had been able to feel the energy gathering and growing in the room, and with each shot that struck the man it had taken a distinct and instantaneous jump. Hardly a coincidental occurrence. Force absorb. Energy weapons will not only be useless, but give him an edge as well.
He had just enough time to return the pistol to its holster and reach for the slugthrower holstered under his opposite arm before the grenade came streaking toward him, striking hard against the shield protecting his forearm and glancing off the briefly visible energy field. When it detonated, the flash-lens covering his only visible eye tinted instantly, protecting his sensitive vision from the light of the blast while the helmet itself cut the audio feed and blocked out most of the sound, reducing it to a loud pop several feet to his left. He was still blinded for the short duration of the blast, but he knew where his opponent was and quickly fired two slugs where his heart would be, likely cutting off any banter the man would have tried to engage in, then waited the extra second it took for the lens to clear and re-acquired his target to fire again with another two slugs. He's good. Resourceful and adaptable. Doesn't confine himself inside the box of lightsaber and the force like most jedi and sith do. He smiled under his helmet. He really was going to enjoy this.

Ak-Akari had shielded his eyes for the grenade explosion, and while his cowl protected his hearing to a pretty good degree, his ears were still ringing when he dove to avoid the obvious counter-attack. As he rolled back to his feet he felt the slugs go whipping by behind him, the air parting to make way for the speeding metal. That was a bad sign, absorb would be all but useless as a defensive tactic now. Sure, he could absorb the kinetic energy from the bullets rather than heat, but they were harder for the same reason that swimming in lava is difficult: it is incredibly hard to train with something that tends to do irreversible damage if you screw it up.
One thing bothered him though, before he dove and shielded his eyes he had noticed that the grenade hadn't actually hit his opponent, but rather had hit some kind of energy shield. Not only that, but as he took off at a light run he could see his opponent visibly tracking him, obviously unaffected by the flash. Two more shots came at him, and Ak-Akari expended the last of his absorbed energy to deflect the two projectiles, a small kinetic push changing their path by the few degrees he needed. It took a bit out of him to make such a snap reaction, but he didn't have enough time to change directions or dodge. This would be very difficult, as it seemed like it would be harder and harder for Ak-Akari to affect this man. Projectiles and sensory overload were going to be negated by the armour, and stun rounds were probably out of the question. It seemed like the Force, his spear, and his wits were going to be the only weapons he would have that could affect this opponent.
He grabbed a smoke grenade in one hand, feeling the sting of his raw hand against the cool metal, and held the spear tightly in the other. He would have to act right after the next attack, hopefully that would help him get the drop for what he was going to try next.

The mercenary's HUD highlighted the new weapon as his opponent drew it off his belt and brought it into play. Grenade, smoke. Interesting choice. If it had been him, he'd have gone for the stun pistols and their unstable power packs. Setting one to overload and timing the throw right would result in a pretty spectacular, if still small, eruption of energy. The kind that could blow an entire hand off if the weapon was still being held. The fact that his opponent didn't reach for a pistol meant he was either really dumb or really clever, and he'd already proven he wasn't the former. Which means he's prepping for something fancy.
All these thoughts raced through his mind in the time it took to reach to his back and draw the two-foot retracted electrostaff sheathed there, which looked like nothing more than a fancy black baton in its current configuration. If he's gonna try and get close, I'll need more than a pistol to keep up with that lightspear. That done, he could find no reason why he should mess with a good thing and simply opened fire again, his pistol having remained trained on his opponent since his last attack. There would be three shots this time, the first aimed at center mass followed by a heartbeat-long pause to re-align for movement and then another two shots at the same target.

Ak-Akari was watching for the shots, and as soon as the man's body armour shifted to signify a slight tensing of the body, Ak-Akari threw the smoke grenade. It sailed through the air wand was struck dead on by the first bullet, causing the hyper-compressed gas to explode out, near instantly creating a thick smoke. The shot that hit the grenade was deflected enough so that it flew past Ak-Akari's shoulder, and he silently thanked the stars for his luck. As soon as the smoke appeared, Ak-Akari dropped to the ground, sliding a few feet on his side. The second series of shots flew by overhead, and then his vision of the man was completely blotted out by the thick smoke.
Ak-Akari knew the smoke wouldn't last however, as it had no source to perpetuate it. So, after rising quickly he took off in a zig-zag pattern towards where his opponent had been, ready to react to any attacks. He also reached out more in the force, both trying to feel for possible warnings, and to give him a better idea of where his opponent was. It wasn't foolproof by far, but it would be negligent of him to not use the tools at his disposal. His lightspear raised, the blade extinguished so as not to give him away, he began to hunt.

Note to self: Upgrade thermal imaging as soon as possible. The imaging systems contained in the mercenary's helmet had been designed to pick out and highlight weapons signatures, and while this meant that they were far too insensitive to register a human of normal body temp, it also meant that the weapons the other man carried shone like beacons through the smoke. That hadn't been enough, however, and he had apparently estimated too high when the man dove to the side, because the weapons started moving again immediately after. This time in a zig-zag pattern toward him.
The mercenary himself began moving as well, though this time backing away from the slowly fading smoke cloud. This place has some seriously crappy ventilation. If the other man wanted to close the distance and make the fight a melee, then he would prolong the ranged portion of it as long as possible.
It wasn't long before he felt a subtle shift in the power filling the room, not quite an increase but definitely a manipulation, and his own force signature shifted to roughly match the new ambient energy. It wasn't a perfect match by any means, but it was close enough that anyone searching could easily miss it, and anyone not searching would be entirely oblivious. Like looking for a neti in a forest. It also meant that his signature wouldn't "spike", as he'd so often heard it called, to alert his foes of impending danger, a trait he'd heard he shared with droids. All in all, it was definitely the more subtle half of his abilities.
The other half... well, the other half may be far more potent and useful in a fight, but drawing on the energy around him would light him up in the jedi's force senses like 500 republica, and he wanted the surprise that the smoke cloud gave him. At least for now.
The mercenary was standing at the edge of the fighting platform when his opponent cleared the smoke cloud, the distance between them decreasing by only one meter as he moved back while the other man moved forward, and so he was still well beyond the range of the lightspear when he came into view. So much for fancy tactics, huh? His gun was still raised, centered on the space in the middle of the weapons and their energy signatures, and only a slight adjustment was called for in order to find the man's heart in his sights again and open fire. All three of the pistol's remaining slugs would be fired, though this time each shot was deliberate and purposeful, a short pause between each to re-acquire if necessary or cease firing if the target was somehow lost. By now, the merc was well aware of the other man's propensity for dodging his attacks, and the cadence of the shots was designed specifically to counter that ability.

When his opponent's Force signature seemed to just kind of fade away, Ak-Akari slowed down. It wasn't something he'd encountered before, but he didn't like it, and he didn't feel like trying to press a perceived advantage when he didn't know the variables. This man seemed to be using some kind of slug based weapon, which meant he would run out of ammo eventually. Perhaps it was based to deal with him that way, not having the expertise some others he knew did in telekinesis or speed.
Instead, Ak-Akari decided it was time to risk another of his gadgets, and this one hopefully wouldn't be spent right away. Before he cleared the smoke, he near silently dropped his portable holo-projector, the small device already programmed to sync with his armour's computer and create a copy of himself that moved to complement him. The image's movement programming wasn't perfect by any means, but the image itself was as near to perfect as a holo could get, pretty much indistinguishable to all but the most advanced computers without touching it or a close inspection. On top of that, it did something his illusions couldn't do; the device could project wavelengths that he himself couldn't even conceive of. As such, the copy of Ak-Akari had the correct ultraviolet and infrared aspects as well.
Moving forward again, both figures burst out of the smoke to see the gunman still a good distance away. Moving quickly, Ak-Akari on the left and the clone on the right, they charged with spears raised, Force pretty much forgotten in a mad dash to reach his antagonist. His best bet was to reach his opponent before he could fire a shot, and hope his reinforced chest plate would catch anything that came his way. He knew it was reckless, but he couldn't just keep dodging all day. Maybe if he was lucky then the first shot would go to the clone and he'd slip in. Only time would tell.

Bloodshot narrowed his eyes when the sensor readings from a second opponent, nearly identical to those of the first, suddenly appeared on his HUD to the left of the original readings. This guy really likes his tricks, doesn't he? The ploy had an even chance of working had the mercenary not been able to see the new readings appear next to the originals, but as it was he simply maintained his aim on the original target and followed through with the intended attack. Three shots at the heart of the charging man, spaced just far enough apart to allow for aim correction in the event of a dodge.

Well gentleman this judgement is overdue. This was a solid read, each doing what you did best. However I am going to give this to bloodshot. He dictated the pace of the duel, and try as he might Ak Akari had no way to counter this character.
