This was directly connected to the landing pads. Enclosed by rock canyons on all sides, there were four massive stone spires that towered up that surrounded an open area that resembled the Arena. Various mazes and passageways carved straight into the rock led into the Academy interiors. Some were visible outright, others were subtle, fewer still only a select few knew about; those accessed the catacombs and bombardment escapeways. It was exposed directly to the eventide sunlight of Iridonia's stationary sun, and thus plantlife was abundant there, a rare sight in Iridonia's harsh climates. Hyperwinds soared above and if one wasn't careful or resilient enough in Force Jump or Flight, could be carried away into Iridonian wilderness. Few made it back alive after that.
The ground comprised of the brick-red soil that made up Iridonia's terrain; composed of many different compositions and nutrients from constant wearing and foreign substances in the boots of those who trampled upon it.
Droid assistants, Zabrak staff and Academy security, comprising of some of Iridonia's defense forces, were always on scene or on patrol, on vigilant watch and observation to mediate and handle situations that potential to escalate.

Sith Academy. Outside the Entrance Courtyard.
Major Kelborn stood off to the side with the rest of Alpha Team. Once Colonel Locklear signaled for them to proceed, Kelborn tapped the demolitions expert on the shoulder.
Pop the hatch.
Seconds later, several shaped charges were detonated as the once proud doors leading into the Sith Academy's main courtyard were sent flying inwards.
Breach and Clear! Move move move!
Kelborn shouldered his rifle and followed several Storm Commandos through the smoke and dust. Blaster fire rang out and several lightsabers could be heard igniting. As Kelborn and his team began laying down suppressing fire, the Shadowtroopers attached to his team charged forward, lightsaber pikes ignited. The yellow blades moved through the smoke and dust and engaged the Sith acolytes and students willing to defy Lord Savage's new rule. As the surprised occupants within the Academy entrance began to falter and fall back to more defensive positions, Kelborn issues his next set of orders.
Support Teams Victor and Sierra, move up and establish a foothold. Bravo, get set to follow them in. Alpha Team, prepare to form up and begin pushing to the security substation!
As Kelborn and Alpha Team began to drift away from the main battle, Sierra and Victor Teams poured in, laying down heavy suppressing fire, forcing the Academy defenders to seek cover. Many of the security personnel were gunned down, as were several students. As Kelborn and his team were able to disengage from the courtyard, Kelborn signaled the remaining teams that were to follow them in.
Sergeant Vincent, have Bravo Team move up. Sierra and Victor have the enemy suppressed in the main courtyard.
As he received an acknowledgement, he signaled Witwer. If he had any doubts about the young man's abilities, it was too late to say anything now.
Witwer, once Bravo Team is through the breach, follow them in and proceed to your objective. Once our objective is secured, I'll check in.
As Kelborn and Alpha Team began to make their way to the security substation, Sierra and Victor Teams had the courtyard secured and had any remaining defenders pinned down. So far so good. This assault was proceeding much better than he had anticipated. He only hoped that Locklear and Lady Novax were having as much success as they were right now...

A month or more had passed since the Invasion of the Academy that had lead to the removal of the prior headmaster and the establishment of a new regime on Iridonia. The new Sith'ari had not shown himself within the Academy itself but his influence was everywhere, especially in the form of the new headmaster. Discipline had stepped up, and lessons were given with a much more firm hand than before - it seemed to most that this 'Academy' was turning more and more towards a military institute than a school for the education of the Force.Vasari slipped out of the shadows of the Dormitories heading towards the Archives. Access to the archives had finally been open to acolytes and so her secret passages were no longer necessary to get in and out with the books she needed to continue her education. Her studies in the ancient Sith mind control, Qâzoi Kyantuska, had stunted - she had finished the tome she had found written my Marka Ragnos and she had come to the conclusion that he knew little more about the art than she did now. Clearly his interests lay elsewhere in the Force. She had the name of another Lord of the Sith that had turned the ancient art to their own means - Exar Kun. This was an interesting lead as she had never heard of the name before today and she was excited to see where this knew avenue would take her. As she stepped out into the Iridonian afternoon sun she almost had a smile on those grim lips of hers.
"Vassi!"
And... the smile vanished. She didn't stop, or even turn towards the sound of her 'name' being called in the background, she simply pressed on towards the Archives pressing through a group of Acolytes crowded around one of the upper level students attempting to juggle balls infused with the Lightning of another student standing nearby without shocking himself.
"Come on Vassi, wait!"
The boy that was following her attempted to take the same route, but was less limber and so bumped into several more of the students than Vasari had, slowing his path.As Vasari edged her way out of the group she turned and waved her hand gently towards the high arc of three electricity charged balls and they fell upon the boy following her just as he stepped into the empty circle - attempting to cut through the group to catch her. Two of the three balls made contact with the boy and he dropped almost instantly as the infused lightning arced through his body leaving him writhing there for a moment - much to the amusement of the other students, who had assumed the juggler had done it on purpose - an assumption the juggler did nothing to correct, but while the group jeered and clapped the higher level student cast a suspicious eye towards the trailing black skirt of the Acolyte disappearing between the columns that lead into the Archives.Exhaling softly - having dodged her tail she wrapped her cloak tightly around her and moved quietly into the stacks of the Library itself.

It would seem I have final arrived where it wanted me to. Leaving Gyndine a few times over the years to learn from others and learn of other faction, I still prefer being back at home. This Iridonia was a planet I had not learned of yet. Yet my friend seem to drag me here, it wasn't the first time it had brought me somewhere. Though Usually I had an idea why it dragged me there. Often it lead to trouble. From what I could learn on my way here, I had no connection to those who ran this academy, never heard of this acadamy, and its teachings were a bit one sided from this history. In the end though I never denied my friend and allowed it to guide me where ever it felt I should go. After all its power was connected to everything, so it must have reasons for me to here. A chuckle escaped my mouth as I smiled, no use worrying about it all now, It seemed like the best thing to do now was find those around here who held position and figure out what was next for me. Stopping for just a moment i reached into my pocket pulling forth a half smoked cigar and placed it into my mouth, and pulled a light from my pocket igniting the end of the cigar I took a couple long draws of it.
Ello I know, you know im here.
I always enjoyed attempting to poke the rancor as they said. Like to see how people like to react. Maybe that would explain why i often found myself in trouble. O well ether way this was going to be an interesting trip. Now bring the puppets out at lets see who pulls the strings.

Headmaster Alaric, accompanied by the newcomer, Darth Sirona in tow, proceeded from the Landing Pads to the entrance courtyard. The duo walked into silence until Alaric spoke once more. You have great potential here, young one. I suspect the Sith'ari will see your promise as well. If you are accepted here, I'm sure he'll find a place for you within the Blackguard....Aside from what he had just said, Alaric continued to walk in silence. This young woman was promising. And the Sith'ari valued potential students that bore the promise this young woman had. How he would initiate her, was a different matter entirely. However, they would cross that bridge when they got there. For now, they needed to meet with the Sith'ari.

Nidana followed a few paces behind the Headmaster. She was wary of any traps or ambushes that may lay in store (one doesn't make a life of poking around Sith ruins and not). Her timidness was still evident though. The deeper into the Academy they went, the more worried she became. She could tell though that the Headmaster genuinely thought she was of some value, though she was still concerned with what that may translate into at a later date. Silent and ready, she would follow the Headmaster to the Dark Lord, and hopefully he too would see promise in her.

As Headmaster Alaric led Nidana through the Entrance Courtyard, Savage emerged from the door they were heading towards. Garbed in nothing more than the traditional trappings of a Sith, he approached them. Upon noticing him, Alaric bowed deeply.
Ah. My King. A pleasure as always. This young woman...-
"-...is highly Force sensitive and well versed in the art of digging up the past, it would seem." interjected Savage.
His eyes traced the young woman's features. Nothing that stood out from a crowd. But his eyes lingered on the Sith Sword she was carying. The ancient Sith glyphs on it shimmered slightly as he traced them with his eyes. As if on queue, the voices within his mind whispered to him.
An asset to you. Smart, deceptive, alert. Use her. Your father would not suspect her.
Ignoring the whispers, his eyes returned to the young woman's eyes. Without looking away from her, he waved Alaric away.
"Leave us."
Alaric, clearly not expecting the Sith'ari to dismiss him so readily, looked back and forth between them for a few seconds, then bowed once more.
Of course, my liege. If you need me, you know where I reside.
And with that, Alaric clasped his hands behind his back once more and strode off. Savage merely continued to observe the young woman. There was something about her. But he couldn't quite place it. And then he spoke to her.
"What brings you here, to this Academy?"
Once she answered this question, he would ask more. But the answers were not of any concern to him. It was how she answered the questions that would reveal much about her agenda.

A shiver ran down Nidana's spine as the Sith Lord made himself known. A real living Sith. Nothing she could have done would have prepared her for the presence that stood before her. She could feel herself shrinking down as the Dark Lords eyes traced over her. The fear she had in this moment would be impossible to miss. But she knew that that was a good way to get herself killed. So she did what she could to push it aside and brought herself up to full height (an unimpressive 5'4") and locked eyes with the Iridonian. After one last deep breath she started to speak in a still shaking voice.
I am Nidana. I have dedicated my life to the hunting of Dark Side knowledge. Until now, I have hunted this lore for only the sake of knowing, with no other application in mind for it. But here I know you must have a great many of the old relics and teachings that I crave- No. Need. And here too I could find a purpuse for this knowledge. Put it to use so that some day all the galaxy may come to love and fear the Dark Powers as I do.
As she finished she realized she had been taking steps forward, and was now only a few feet from the Savage.

Savage's fierce yellow eyes scanned over the young woman as she spoke. Anticipation, fear, excitement. All these feelings and emotions rolled within her. She was a cauldron of boiling emotions. Unfocused and untapped, but there just the same. Her fear was understandable. Her excitement, however childish it may have seemed to Viox, was useful. Her anticipation, or rather hunger, to uncover the teaching and relics of the Dark Side was impressive. Standing before her, arms hanging at his sides, posture relaxed, he watched her step forward as she spoke. An untintentional habit, perhaps. Standing at an impressive 6'2", he dwarfed her without trying. A small smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"You are passionate, young Nidana. A refreshing quality in someone new here. You say you need to understand and pursue the knowledge of the Dark Side? An admirable pursuit, to be sure. But what is in it for me? From where I am standing, everything I have, you want. Which benefits you. Satisfies your hunger and passion..."
He trailed off and took half a step forward and leaned over so his face was mere inches away from hers. His yellow eyes staring into hers, searching for an answer that would be satisfactory to him. Fortunately, he was in a relatively good mood, and he had not intention of casting the young woman aside. But there was nothing saying he couldn't tease the young woman a bit first, before giving in.
"Tell me, do I frighten you, Nidana? Am I everything you ever imagined in a Sith?"
At this point, he was going to drink in her emotions and simply take pleasure in stringing her along for a few minutes, just to see exactly how committed she actually was.

I... She was about to say how she was not afraid, but could not finish the lie. Yes, you terrify me. Your power is like anything I've seen, only read about. Nothing could have prepared me to be in your magnificent presence. Her stomach knotted with fear, even if she was as powerful as he (doubtful as that was) her powers were still unrefined and would pale in comparison to the feats he could preform. As far as what I can offer you? Nothing you could likely not obtain some other way, save for my willingness to follow and perhaps a new perspective on old knowledge. If you worry about me one day becoming a threat, I swear to you that I desire nothing but knowledge. So long as that flows to me, you will have a loyal and willing servant. The Echani dropped to a knee. Exposing her neck didn't put her in any more danger than she already was in.

Savage's eyes followed her movements as she dropped to a knee. A smile broke across his face. Straightening up, he spoke once more.
"You are wise, young one..."
Considering her proposal was not difficult. She sought knowledge. She wanted to deepen her connection to the Dark Side of the Force. And as long as she had that, she'd be his loyal servant. An interesting notion, but ultimately foolish. Willingness was only going to get her so far. By the time he finished with her, she would forever be his slave. Loyalty was a good concept among soliders. But ultimately it was a foolish concept among Sith. Only self preservation and self interest kept those around him in line, save for a select few. Malvus sought a united Sith front. Akrak sought power. Znalost sought wisdom. They cared not for Savage's ultimate plan, nor did they factor into his end game. Fear of the powers that were locked with in his mind, kept them at bay. Any lesser mind would have destroyed everything he had built thus far. As challenging as it was to keep the Elders in check, they were pacified by the notion that some day he would be the downfall of his father. Which was going to happen. Eventually. But for now, building his power base and gathering minions loyal to his 'cause' would keep them content, as it was all part of his plan.
"Rise, my child."
This was where the fun would begin. It was time to show Nidana the true extend of his power. Or at least enough of it to whet her appetite and keep her coming back for more.

She rose tentatively. Surely it hadn't been that easy? Soon the young woman was once more on her feet, her fear only slightly lessened, but still a dominant mark in her Presence. Even so, she could no longer bring herself to look into his yellow eyes, almost as if they would turn her to stone if she did. Nidana didn't know what to expect next, but she stood her ground, waiting for her Dark Lords next command.

A grin split the Zabrak's tattooed face. He motioned for Nidana to follow him.
"Follow me, my dear..."
The Sith then spun on his heel and made his way into the Academy, cloak billowing out behind him. Leading the young Echani through the Academy, many of the students would glance at her, then quickly avert their eyes. It had been made known to the students that when the Sith'ari himself took a personal interest, it usually wasn't going to end well, however this was the exact opposite case. Savage took interest into this simply because he wanted to see what Nidana was truly capable of without out any training...

Making his way through the halls and out into the courtyard, Gavin's pace was slow and casual as if he had all the time in the universe to spare. rarely did he even feel the need to rush or even hurry just a little. It did nothing to aid him and there was certainly nothing that required such haste from him, at least, not anymore. Time was but a flowing essence that no longer mattered to him. Wherever he was going, he'd get there at some point. Besides, one never knew what could be missed when moving at such speed.
He didn't stay long in the courtyard itself, taking only a moment to walk around within it, taking in what lay about before moving on, finding a small spot to sit just out of typical sight of any who'd pass by. He sat back on the ground, letting the small amount of wind that floated by in a gentle breeze ruffle his hair and settle his mind. Taking a deep breath, he let his body relax and find peace within itself as his gaze shifted to the sky. He enjoyed being outside in the wilderness. While Iridonia didn't possess the same level of beauty as other planets did, it still carried its own wonders if one stopped to truly look. His years wandering the terrains of different worlds helped to him appreciate what could be gathered from them, knowing that a lesson could be taught to anyone in any form if they opened their minds to receive it.
However, his growing tranquility was disrupted by the sound of a voice within his head. "That was all you." Letting out a sigh, he closed his eyes and began to slip into meditation, seeking to meet with the one that called to him.
*Following the call, Gavin sunk into the depths of his own mind. Retreating further and further into his inner most thoughts, he made his way to his inner world. As his eyes opened, the darkness took shape before him, becoming a mangrove swamp. It was a place he had crafted for himself to use during meditations. It also served as an arena for mental battles he posed against himself and any invaders that sought to infiltrate his mind. Yet, the final purpose it served was for the reason he had come: communion.
He stood there in the middle of a clearing, mangroves surrounding him in a large circle with extra trails of crystal clear water to flow through. For the moment, he was alone, standing atop the waist deep water. Yet, his head soon turned slightly to his left at the sound of dripping water. Standing there, drenched in water, was what seemed to be copy of himself, yet completely darkened. Hair, eyes, and skin where gray or black with claws and fangs present to go along with an animalistic shaped face. His dark replica, his inner demon, Vannihr.
Vannihr looked upon Gavin with solid black eyes, a smirk splattered across his face. "You really should make a move with her. It's quite the fit. You two have a few similarities by what I can tell. Undoubtedly there are a few more that have yet to be seen. Surely with your charm you could win her over by tomorrow."
Gavin's head dropped his head as he looked at the demon from the corner of his eye, a small growl of agitation emanating from his throat. "Really? That's the reason you called me here? To try and get me to hook up with her?"
Vannihr gave a shrug, his smirk not once fading. "Hey, I'm just trying to look out for you. It's been awhile, you know? And that girl? Fiery, independent, strong? Definitely you're type of girl. I certainly like her."
No response came as Gavin's gaze stayed fixed upon the demon for a moment before shifting his gaze to his right. You're remaining oddly quiet. I know you've got something to say about it, too. Spill it, Coretha."
The light began to grow brighter around them before gathering into a single spot where Gavin's was looking. Fading the light revealed another being, a beautiful woman with blonde hair and golden eyes and wings. She let herself gently settle onto the water, not creating the slightest ripple. Her gaze held one of concern, almost pleading if one looked hard enough. "I think it's time that you found someone again. It has indeed been a long time since you last had a person to love, someone you could settle down with. I'm finally glad that you stopped wandering the stars and found a home for yourself, even if I'm not the most enthusiastic about where. But you could really use someone by your side."
Gavin couldn't help but give a scoff as he rolled his eyes. "When did you become my mother?"
Looking a little hurt, she gave a small sigh. "I just want you to be happy, is all."
Vannihr scoffed a bit. "Hell, if you could just get a single night of activity once and awhile, I'd be happy. Do you realize how boring it gets here sometimes? Having something to watch every now and again would be great."
Gavin's eyes shifted returned to Vannihr as Coretha shook her head a with a nearly disgusted sigh. True, it had been decades since he was last with someone. Yet, it had been hard finding a reason to fall in love when he always outlived them and watched them die in his arms. Still, he had moved past that reality and was now simply waiting for the right woman. And with a whole galaxy to look through, it wasn't an easy task.
Shaking his head, he was ready to end the slightly awkward exchange. "Vannihr, you know I don't sleep around. If I'm not committed, it doesn't happen. So deal with it." He then looked back to the woman. "Coretha, I'm not about to just jump into a relationship for the sake of having one. It'll be the right woman at the right time. And if it takes another hundred years for that to happened, then so be it." He then gave a sigh. "I swear, both of you are like a grandmother pushing a thirty year old who hasn't dated in ten years, and whose younger siblings are married with children, to find someone."
Coretha raised her hands defensively. "Alright, you've made your point. We'll leave it be."
Vannihr growled a bit, throwing his hands in the air. "Fine. But I don't want to hear you complaining because you feel lonely."
Without another word, the two faded as did the world around him, returning his focus back to reality.*
Opening his eyes, he gaze found Iridonia's terrain once more. He could only shake his head at the conversation. The light and darkness of his mind, each taken form into their own entities, and they were an absolute pain to deal with from time to time. But they were apart of him, were him. To lose either of them would be to lose a piece himself. And the thought of that bothered him. Just as much as they were the same, they were different and they had gone through so much together. Like a family bound within his mind.
Shaking his head, he tried to push the thoughts from his mind. The unexpected detour of his attention had disrupted his calm. Knowing the perfect cure, he lifted his triple flute to his lips and began to play. Smooth and soothing tones began to resonate from the wooden instrument as he let one of his songs move through the area surrounding the courtyard.

Attempting to make her quiet journey back to her ship, Mariah found herself within the courtyard for what was meant to be only a brief moment. The mumbled chatter of those heading in and out buzzed like white noise within the woman's mind. By this point, she could feel the effects of the medicine beginning to fade ever so slightly; the wound in her side burned with each step, sending a small shock of discomfort through her system. Lying about in her ship for the rest of her time was less than ideal, but she felt as though she had little to any choice.
However, a light, haunting melody pierced through the heat of the Iridonian air, slowing her steps that still steadily carried her away. There was something about its cries that send her mind down another path, the remembrance of her people. The lonely path she had ventured for decades had faded for but a brief moment, and she could see the gentleness of her mother's face, the smile in her father's eyes, the joy in her sister's smile, as clear as if she had seen them but moments ago. Instead of finding the joys of those days long past, however, the yearning in her soul swirled only a more furious discontent and loathing.
With a scowl hidden beneath her hood, Mariah attempted to hasten her steps, away from the cursed harmonies and out of the courtyard. However, laced within those echoing notes, a softened voice whispered out to her, as if carried within the song.
<<Sequere me... Et credidistis mihi...>>
It was only that still, soft voice, sending a gentle glow within the darkness of her mind, that brought Mariah to a stop. It did nothing to halt the hatred, and only amplified its fuel: the smile to the bubbly, childish laughter. However, as much as Mariah wished to march onward, ignoring the call, she could hear it the sweet voice resonate within her mind yet again.
<<Sequere me... Et credidistis mihi...>>
Meddling. Always... meddling. Mariah had hoped to commune with the one who now called out to her. Lying about in her ship would have provided ample time for it. However, it seemed as though she had other thoughts in mind for Mariah. No matter what took place, she would be sure to seek her out after this, if only to tear into her for interfering with her affairs... again. For now, she would only continue the song until she listened, and thus, Mariah had no other option but to listen.
"As you wish," Mariah whispered, turning hesitantly to seek out the source.
If anything, the moment gave Mariah a chance to truly look throughout the courtyard, something she would have otherwise missed. The plants selected perfectly for the heat of Iridonia, each flourishing with its own beauty. Finally locating the source was an easy enough task, even if he was positioned out of the way for those to continue on without immediately noticing him. However, Mariah couldn’t hide the twist of a dry half-smile when she realized who was revealed at its source.
"Master Phoenix..." she murmured, lifting the hood of her cloak to reveal her familiar face to him.
The way her eyes narrowed upon him, she knew all too well already how much he abhorred that title, so she waited for his correction to come all the same. She exhaled a sigh as her piercing gaze remained locked upon him as she searched for any reason or reaction to excuse herself and leave him be. At least her sister's song made more sense now than it did moments ago. As if to play along with whatever she intended for but a brief moment, Mariah crossed her arms over her chest and continued.
"An... interesting discovery to find you here. I imagine you entertain the students often enough with your songs."

Whether Mariah had continued to keep her presence entirely hidden since her small encounter in the training area or allowed it to return to normal, it wouldn't have mattered, for in the moment, Gavin would have completely missed it. Though alert enough in any given situation to catch it, being lost in certain tasks kept him from sensing the smaller details around him. Had anyone else gotten close enough to hear his music, he would have known, but the crimsoned haired woman was successful in walking up to him without ever catching his attention. If she had intended to kill him, now would have been one of the few chances to take him out in a swift, quiet attack.
It was only when she spoke did he finally react. The playing stopped, followed by him opening his eyes. The tone in which she spoke his name, coupled with the flow of his music made him wonder if he was hearing things. Something he wanted to cursed the two entities in his mind for. Yet, it proved to be more than him hearing things when she continued speaking. Turning his head, his gaze locked onto hers. Seeing her here was something he had not expected, nor did he think they'd cross paths again before her departure. And with the communion with Coretha and Vannihr still fresh in his mind, he was left momentarily speechless.
There were a few moments of silence after she finished speaking, his ice blue eyes never once leaving her crimson. What was interesting was that most of what made them pierce was gone. But the question was, what caused such an ease his his eyes? Was it the meditation he was in? Maybe it was the sound of the music? Possibly, if unlikely, it was upon seeing her again? It was anyone's guess.
Letting his eyes first drop slightly to break their gaze before looking forward again, he gave a faint smile and scoff as he allowed his mind to register her words. "Gavin, please." Without question did he seek to correct her from calling him by that title. Still, his words were softer, lacking the same agitation that was expressed in the medbay. She was new and, despite hearing that conversation, wouldn't have had it fully registered to her. At least, that was what he thought. "Interesting, indeed. However, you would be the first to ever have heard me play within these halls." Setting the flute onto his lap, she would be able to better see the design of it. A warm wood of a brilliant light brown with etchings of diamonds near the ends of each flute. Adorn with turquoise stones, it was a simple, yet elegant piece of art. Near the mouthpiece rested three totems tied around the base, each resembling a bird.
Taking a another breath to fully compose himself from his sudden lack of focus, he looked back to her. "Is there something I can help you with? I can't imagine you'd be done exploring the academy already."

As always, Mariah’s presence remained small and invaluable to those who didn’t know any better, and her presence was an enigma to those whom did. While her intention wasn’t to startle and fluster him, that was still the outcome. Only the flicker of a wry smile appeared at the edge of her lips as she watched him try to compose himself, although the easiness that was wrapped in his presence was a cause for concern. Had she really been here on an assassination mission of some sense, Gavin would have proven to be too easy of a mark. Perhaps in both of their favors, assassination was something she had left behind her long ago.
As certain as she was that the correction would come, it did. However, her attempts to mildly agitate him went unnoticed, his easiness still lingering as though it was nothing more than ignorance or jest. With the subtle shake of her head, Mariah took a step back and away from him, her gaze turning to look over the courtyard. Interestingly enough, indeed, to hear that she was the first to hear him play. It was more than just a coincidence that the entity in her own mind found it and lured her here, to find him again. Which left his question without an answer.
“I wish I knew,” she murmured quietly to herself.
Somebody apparently thought he could help her, but conveniently left out how or even why… although she had her own assumptions. Mariah’s narrowed her eyes as she breathed in a deep breath, pushing away the remnants of that song that drew her here. If he wanted to inquire further to her whispered words, she attempted to push the conversation forward.
Casting a side glance back in Gavin’s direction, Mariah added, “I got into a bit of trouble with some students in the training arena. I figured I’d call it a day before I had to shatter more than egos.” While there very well might have been something amusing about the way she worded it, her tones held that same stern and stoic inflection. It was only the reappearance of that short-lived half-smile that gave any sense of her jest.
With her eyes now upon him, she was able to make out the details of the flute. Her gaze lingered on it a moment longer as she attempted to make sense of it. Out of all of the instruments in the universe, this one was perhaps simpler by craft but much more exotic not in its design, but even its sound which was able to pierce through even her guarded self.
Her arms, crossed over her chest, fell if but to now rest on her hips. She shifted her weight, typically evenly dispersed for a moment’s reaction, to a more casual and relaxed stance. As guarded as she was, it was too easy to sense that Gavin had no ill intention towards her. Even if she couldn’t quite crack through that same guard she also upheld. Still, it would be a question for another time. There was something more that caught her curiosity, and if there was a reason she was sent here, Mariah would make the most of this unexpected encounter.
“I find it odd that a Master among the Sith has ill feelings towards his title.” She already had her suspicions -- his blue eyes, unhindered by the dark presence of the Force’s will -- but all the same, Mariah was not a woman of assumptions. “Do you correct even your students or only those of among the higher hierarchy?”

Though he could make out the sound of her voice speaking, it was quiet enough that he couldn't make out the words. His face tightened as he tried to somehow piece together while trying to grasp why she spoke so softly about it. Before he had the chance to ask what she said, she continued on, giving a clear enough reason as to her exploration's early end. Upon the mention of trouble with students, he could help but raise an eyebrow at the words. Following the comment of shattering more than egos, he couldn't help but give a smirk a laugh a bit. After a second, he looked back to her, a bit of mischievous intent in his eyes that was only enhanced by his smile. "I see. My only regret would have been missing it."
He shook his head as his gaze shifted forward once more. He might have had his own code in regards to involving himself with the training of others, that was for him and him alone. Had Mariah chosen to step in, he would have carried no qualms with her actions, only wishing he could observe the session. No doubt it would have been an eventful sight. One that might have set some fires under a few select students and masters.
When she made mentions of his feelings towards titles and him being a Sith, he let out a small sigh. He said nothing for a few long moment, contemplating giving her the honest answer. If there were those outside the Blackguard, even its allies discovering this reality, it could possibly discredit Viox and his order. Whether the Sith'ari felt it an issue or not, was anyone's guess. Yet, Gavin doubted it. After all, Viox was the first to speak with him and learn such truths, yet still allowed him the chance to teach and even leave with no repercussions. It was also something, along side his teaching methods, that made him an outcast and looked upon so critically.
Still, he decided there was no reason to hide it. The woman seemed rather smart and intuitive, most likely already figuring it out and merely trying to verify her suspicions. Leaning back onto his arms, he returned his gaze to her. "I'm..not a Sith. Just an instructor. And I usually don't have to tell my students. They typically avoid speaking or asking questions during lessons. I give them assignments, demonstrate abilities, then watch them if I'm not working with one of them provided she is able to show up."

Mariah offered slight half shrug at Gavin's mention of regrets. Should she had been given more time here, surely another event would begin in no time at all. She was finding herself more often than not mixed into the group of the students, even though she carried more than twice their age in experience. The matter of her appearance was both a blessing and a curse, but something she had long learned to use to her advantage as needed; experience merely gave her the grace necessary in most scenarios.
"You may hear all about it, depending on how vocal other the students are," she warned, the mischievous glint in his eyes seeming to draw out her own within her crimson. "They think I’m your student."
Truth be told, Mariah found it a rather uneventful circumstance. A very simple countermeasure. She didn't draw her weapon on her assailant. Then again, that could be exactly what made it such sight to those both in the arena and in the stands which surrounded it. Only time would tell, though, and if it did, it would be solely in Gavin’s hands. She would be off planet by then.
When Gavin's answer finally rang true of what she had suspected, Mariah turned to face him fully. A pause filled the air between the two of them, her crimson eyes looking over him void of emotion. It very well could have been a daunting stare, the thoughts that bustled in her head an unknown.
<<Is this why?>> she asked, calling back into the void, yet Mariah knew all too well that an answer wouldn't come.
The Jen'ari's words whispered in her mind again, his explanation that the Blackguard harbored more than just the Sith, but those of the Dark Jedi as well. An Academy filled with Sith Masters, students being taught and brought up in the ideals of this new Sith structure, and the first master she would meet once within its walls was one who wasn't one of them at all. It was hardly a coincidence. The Force had this habit of either putting her in the right place at the right time... or the exact opposite. With this circumstance being the former, she only needed a push in the right direction.
'Trust me... and follow me.'
With a deep breath, Mariah closed the few feet that she left between herself and Gavin. Sitting herself upon her knees, she was here to stay for this conversation. Even if Gavin had any protest to it, the way she looked over him revealed her firm, unwavering decision. That critical, sharp stare returned to her crimson eyes, as if she studying him, deciphering more to his words than what just remained on the surface.
"...and the facade that I'm your student only grows to be more believable, Master Phoenix."
With a tilt of her head, crimson hair spilling her shoulder, Mariah let her words hang in the air for a moment, a very subtle confirmation of her own alignment among the Sith. With the use of his title in the interesting turn of events, a faint, wicked smile curled at the edge of her lips. She wondered if he would dwell on it and miss the underlying message.
"Why do you do it?"
'It' represented so many things. Training of the students. Tolerating the judgement of the other masters. As much or little as he wanted to explain. His discomfort to the admittance didn't go unnoticed, although she had hoped that now she had silenced those reasons for it. There was a reason she had avoided seeking allies among the Sith for all these years, though, and he had somehow managed to handle what she refused. A feat she gave credit where it was due. If there was one thing that he could see in the intensity of her eyes now, it was that he had her full attention.
