The Canteen consisted of a large kitchen with a large buffet style server and a massive room filled with tables and chairs for students to sit down. Cooks worked tirelessly to produce mass amounts of food during the main three meal times (breakfast, lunch and dinner), whilst a small staff worked the rest of the hours casually to fill small orders made by students

Atton certainly thought that his first day could have been a lot worse, though facing down Sith and fighting in battles was one thing but teaching a classroom was something else entirely, and he had to admit that he wasn't quite prepared for it. He shrugged."Meh...could've been better. I'm not used to teaching like this." He smirked a little, not about to turn down a food offer after a day like this."Lead on. I could use a good meal." He followed Alykka out of the classroom but stopped when he saw Maiya sitting by herself, and Adferd closing fast. He was starting to regret giving that damn ball back to him, especially after he threw it straight at the girl's face, leaving her with a bloody nose. His glare at the young man probably could have melted durasteel, but he followed Alykka's advice and didn't act.
He shook his head, feeling rather sorry for the girl, but unsure how to help. He hated to see someone have to go through life alone, but from what Alykka had told him, Maiya wasn't an easy person to understand. Atton had felt something odd about the girl during class, but he hadn't commented on it. Now that Alykka mentioned it, something was definitely off about her. It was worth investigating at the very least. Surely there was a rational explanation somewhere, though he had certainly seen his share of strange things during his lifetime...
Still scowling, he faced Alykka."Even so, we just stood there and let someone throw a damn ball in her face." He shook his head, resolving to do something to try and help the girl next time, even if that bad feeling of his persisted."I'm not standing by next time." With a heavy sigh, Atton started walking towards the canteen again. “Yeah, we did just stand by,” Alykka admits, “But it was a one-time show. Just wanted ya ta see how bad it was. Sometimes, show’n’tell’s the best and only way ta get to th’ gravity of th’ situation.” She guides Atton to a chair and takes a seat herself. A waiter droid arrives, bringing plates of food. A holographic display of the menu shows over its head as it waits patiently for orders to be placed. Smiling, Alykka orders herself some Kentucky fried gizka, with a side order of fries, a soda nad gizka McNuggets. She then waits for Atton to make his orders before continuing to speak with him.“Ah guess ya c’n see now jus’ ‘ow bad the understaffing situation’s made for us. We got more student’s than we got teachers and guides. Ah mean, Ann Chalinda, whatever she is, ain’t really great with personal interaction, and prefers ta just maintain da building an’ all. But word is, she’s older’n this planet or some such, so she ought to have some kinda knowledge, right?” She flicks her hair back irritably, “Ah just ain’t a good teacher. Ah mean, Ah’m a mechanic and a pilot! Heh, but lo an’ behold, Ah’ve got me a personal lackey now, conpliments o’ the overload of students. Sorry if Ah’m ramblin’, but if yeh have any questions, please feel free to shut mah trap and ask away. Elsewise, Ah’ll bleed yer ears out with mah chattin’...”

Atton ordered a nerf burger and fries from the waiter droid and sat back to wait for their food to arrive, just taking a minute to wait for Alykka to finish her rambling. Not that he minded listening to someone talk, of course. Sometimes it was best to just sit back and listen for a little while to see what was on someone's mind or get a better read on things. It had been quite clear to him when he entered the classroom that day that teachers were in short supply, and it was having an adverse effect on the students. He hoped that more teachers would be made available over the next few weeks, or he foresaw his workload going through the roof. Which was fine as it gave him less time to think about recent events...
He took note of how Alykka noted that her teaching ability wasn't up to snuff, which was fine because neither was his. Of course, his lack of teaching ability had also adversely affected someone close to him, but he wasn't about to touch on that now. Suffice to say Atton had a reason for doubting his ability to teach effectively...
He shook those thoughts away and smirked at Alykka"I'm sure I'm not that great of a teacher myself. I've spent most of my career either fighting or flying...sometimes both."The Knight leaned back in his seat, sighing heavily."I can handle facing down a squad of soldiers who want to kill me, or some nut job with dark powers and a lightsaber, but put me in a classroom and I'm like a damn fish out of water."

With an inherent skill that some might have found unnerving in a padawan, Alexis Karidian located the canteen as her first stop of interest within the Honoghrian Enclave. The slight figure paused just inside the door and looked about, or rather, glanced through the gloom while categorizing each of the occupants of the room as 'threatening' or 'non-threatening.' That done, she headed over to the bar proper.
She hopped up on a stool positioned near the wall that gave her a clear line of sight on the door, while ensuring that no one could easily sneak up behind her. She was all too aware that she didn't have a wingmate anymore, and that realization left her feeling desolated. Dark brown eyes gazed up at the bartender as she quietly ordered a Corellian Ale. Something about her presence, perhaps it was her eyes that looked far too wise for one who was only seventeen years old, or the frail translucence of her skin made even paler by the frame her thick wavy dark brown hair made around her face, but---he didn't argue.
Moments later a tall crystal glass filled to the brim with sparkling ale was placed in front of her. She reached out tentatively, thanked the man quietly, and picked up the glass. She hesitated. And then, she picked it up and drank deeply, enjoying the stinging fire it streaked down the back of her throat.
Any moment now he'll walk over. I saw it. And, that's why I stopped here. Well, aside from the ale. I needed a drink, Alexis reflected. She'd noticed the semi-scruffy looking male a few tables over, ostensibly in a conversation, but ...she could tell he was looking for an excuse. Alexis grimaced, and took another sip of her drink.

Atton took his attention away from Alykka for just a moment when he noticed a teenage girl enter and head for the bar area. Legal drinking age notwithstanding, it wasn't typical behavior of a new arrival to head straight for the bar, especially if it was a new student. Or maybe she was a regular, since Atton hadn't been here very long. Still, he'd recognize someone trying to drown their sorrows from a mile away...
He scowled and turned back to Alykka."I'll deal with this."
Without waiting for a answer, he got up and walked over to where the girl was sitting, noticing the Corellian ale that she was drinking. Well she had good taste in drinks at least. That had always been a favorite of Atton's, though he hadn't had much of a chance to drink since his surgery and had been advised not to do so with excess by his doctor. Medical types...
The Knight took the stool next to the girl."Aren't we a little young to be drowning our sorrows?"

Eyes that had obviously experienced far more loss and pain than one would ordinarily expect in one of Alexis' age, lifted from the amber depths of her drink and gazed levelly at the man who had just joined her. She blinked.
Ah, recent medical visit that from the looks of it he was still recovering from. I used the seconds bought by blinking to remember a wisp that had straggled by me in the midst of a nap on the way here: Kaelan. That was his name.
"Age is relative," an oddly calm voice informed him, dark eyebrow arching as she continued, "Master Kaelan." In this case, the title was an honorific. She wouldn't place him above 'Knight' level. His aura did not seem to fit with that attainment of ...experience? learning? wisdom? Still, historically within the Jedi Order, padawans traditionally referred to everyone higher than padawan ranking as 'Master.' Alexis Karidian deliberately took another sip of her drink. Then, holding up her left hand, preparatory to snapping her fingers to catch the bartender's attention she offered, "Care to join?" even though she expected him to decline.

Atton raised an eyebrow when she called him Master, and in truth, he really didn't like being called Master. Yes, it was tradition for the Order's younger students to refer to the Knights as 'Master', but that didn't mean he had to like it. Master was probably a title that he would never earn, but that wasn't important right now. Besides, it wasn't being called Master that bothered him as much as the look on her face. As if her desire to drown her sorrows wasn't enough of an indicator that she was suffering, her eyes held that all too familiar look of someone who had lost everything.
The Knight gave a heavy sigh and sat down, deciding to accept her offer for now, though he had to remind himself again that he was under doctor's orders not to consume alcohol."I'll chat if you like. Damn doctor says I can't drink though."
Atton wasn't sure what to say to her, but he knew that look in her eyes. She had experienced loss, either her home or someone close, maybe even both, a situation he was very familiar with. One that had driven him to drink on more than one occasion as well. Only one way to find out though...
He looked back at her, keeping his expression stoic."How 'come you're drinking? And don't say it's 'cause you're thirsty."

"Fine," was Alexis one-word reply as she signaled the bartender anyway, finishing her drink and pushing the glass towards him for a refill. Just one more. Or maybe two. That would be appropriate. She eyed Kaelan closely, assessing his physical symptoms with the air of one who looked deeper than the surface. "So, what happened to you?" she riposted deftly as her glass was returned, filled to the brim and topped with a nice head of delicious foam. She raised her glass silently to the universe and then took a deep, appreciative drink.
Kaelan was being stoic with an intensity that was clearly studied and intentional. She reached up and brushed her hair back behind her right ear with one hand, setting down her glass with a quiet clink! with her other hand. She could also tell he was discomfited by how she had addressed him, there was a slight flicker as a muscle in his neck involuntarily tensed and relaxed.
I couldn't explain how I knew, but I had just lost what meant more to me than 'home.' Instead of being tied to a location for me 'home' tended to travel around rather than remain in a fixed temporal location. It probably had to do with my upbringing on Nar Shaddaa as a refugee. But it had been impressed on me at a very early age that physical possessions were fragile and far easier to destroy than more intangible ones. As a result I tended to form very deep personal attachments. Not easily. Not to many people. But, now that I had lost the one I relied on the most, I realized even more how much it had meant to me. Despite our 'rivalry'... maybe in spite of it... and there was something I had never said. Not once---
Alexis blinked furiously. "I am the last Dragon..." her tone was filled with dull finality. Saying it made it seem more real. "And thirsty," she added quickly. She had more now than she'd had previously in life, to wit: her starfighter and astromech.

Atton gave a slight 'hmph' when she asked him what had happened, a fair question, but that was quite a long story. More than one story too, but one of those was an old wound that he had already dealt with. It was more recent events that had him wishing for a drink. Not as recent as what she had been through it seemed...
He saw for just a moment like she might break down and spill the beans, but that was just a momentary lapse, as she seemed to regain control at the last moment. All she revealed was that she was the 'last Dragon', and he honestly didn't know what that meant. He hadn't had much of a chance to catch up on recent events just yet, so maybe that was something he would have to look into. He couldn't keep spending all this time out of the loop.
But her revelation did confirm one thing for Atton: that she had indeed lost something. Something very important to her. And she didn't want to talk about it, or maybe couldn't find the words. Well he couldn't blame her for that. Even he couldn't really describe what it was like to watch as everything you cared about went up in flames, leaving you the last gasp of a dying Temple...
And she was thirsty. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at that."Right..."Honestly, he wasn't sure where to go from here. She didn't feel like sharing and neither did he. But he couldn't just sit there without ordering a drink, it was strange to sit at a bar without ordering a drink. But the doctor had been very adamant about avoiding alcohol. And yet...
To hell with it."Corellian ale, right here." He smirked at the girl."What doc doesn't know won't hurt him."He sighed and waited for his drink."So...last Dragon..."

"Actually---" long eyelashes veiled her eyes for a moment before meeting his gaze directly, "You're about to make a big mistake." Suiting her actions to her words, she redirected his glass of ale and placed it aside from her left elbow on the counter. She did not wish to have to make an emergency visit to the infirmary. In her experience that was not a good way to become acquainted with the environment or residents in any given location, though to be sure it did tend to break down boundaries speedily.
I am not a child. Not anymore. Not that I ever really was one. Fear destroys the mind. It is a path to the dark side. I will face my fear and I will not run away. I will turn my inner eye to follow its path. Where it has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain. I am not the person I used to be. This time I will make my decisions.
Under Dav's mentoring her nightmares and visions had largely ceased being the bane of her existence. He had taught her to use the Force to protect herself. And she was determined not to go backwards.
Her spine inexplicably straightened under Kaelan's gaze, shoulders back she met his smirk calmly and replied with the wisdom of the generations that had walked another path before her, "What one does not know is often the most deadly. Lack of knowledge produces ignorance." Her fingers tapped the delicate stem of her half-empty glass, contents ignored for now. "Ignorance leads to fear, and fear kills from within. Not once, but many times. Over and over and over again."
The last Dragon---Alexis mind replayed a memory, flashing before her Yavin Station and an obstacle course set up through an asteroid field dropping toward one of Yavin's moons: the anticipation, the eagerness, the fear of failing... and then the joy of flying, the forgetting of self in the race. She smiled sadly, then inquired, "What do you know of the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4, Master Kaelan?"

Atton scowled when the glass of ale was suddenly pulled out of reach, even though he knew she was probably doing him a favor. Next check in, he was going to be sure to have a word with the doc about this no drinking thing he had going on.
He shook his head, but he knew she was right, though it was still strange to see one so young spouting wisdom like that. He didn't answer her, having nothing to say about it. Or maybe it was the fact that he was being lectured by a teenage girl...
As for her question about what he knew of the Praxeum on Yavin 4, well everyone had heard of that place. A center of Jedi teachings, home to some of their most well known members. It was kind of strange that in all his years of being a Jedi, Atton had never set foot in that place even one time. Suffice to say, having never been there, he didn't know much about it..."Not much. I've never been there. Not even one time."He snorted."Hard to believe, right? All these years I've been in the Order, and I never got around to visiting."

"Not really," she answered his question even though he made it seem rhetorical. "The universe is as big as we make it." She picked up her glass and eyed him through the lens of the amber liquid housed within it, left eyelid closed right eye distorted by the fluid. Alternatively, it could be as small as one made it as well. She was making it smaller now by visiting Honoghr.
She took a leisurely sip, then inquired curiously, "But what have you heard?" She didn't expect a lot, but something was more to go on than nothing. Pretty much every Jedi had at least some idea of Yavin. It was a place of historical significance, and it was legendary within the Jedi Order. Besides, this stratagem would buy her time and perhaps it would be easier to speak of Yavin after hearing someone else talk about it.

Atton enviously eyed the drink in her hands, and he shrugged when she asked him what he had heard about Yavin, which to be honest wasn't much. Most of his knowledge of galactic events at large was probably out of date. He had barely been on Honoghr for one day and that had been a busy one. Suffice to say, there hadn't been much time to get himself reacquainted with the galaxy at large. As soon as this conversation was over, he was going to have to talk to some people and get caught up on the happenings around the Order and the galaxy at large. He couldn't stay this out of the loop forever...
He shrugged and sighed heavily."Kid, I've been officially back in the Order for one day. Not a lot of time to get caught up on galactic events."He looked at her, his expression suddenly devoid of his earlier annoyance."Look, if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine, I'm not gonna force you."

"One day?" Alexis didn't bother with trying to conceal her surprise. Maybe he needed help. Judging from his attitude, air of confidence/bravado that potentially was a mask, she thought he was originally from Corellia. But, that could be just an impression. She was not at this point specifically trying to figure him out. "What is your story then? Former Sith Lord?" Her left eyebrow arched steeply, but she smiled warmly.
She felt the shift in room temperature as he stopped being annoyed, though perhaps he had merely shifted to apathetic. "It isn't that I won't talk about it, Master Kaelan." Alexis considered calmly, running her finger lazily around the rim of her glass. "But perhaps I need help?" She was surprised she'd had to bring this out into the open this blatantly as Jedi were supposedly in tune with the feelings of those around them. Naturally that could be an empathic nuance.

Atton couldn't help but chuckle at her little joke, and he shook his head."Good guess."It was a long story and one he didn't feel like telling at the moment. Maybe some other time."But no, not a former Sith."
He wasn't sure what to say to her. She wasn't acting like a typical teenage girl, though it seemed she was far from typical in that regard. One thing Atton had never been great at, or at least didn't think he was good at, was reading people. He wasn't good at being a counselor or a crying shoulder, having taken the alcoholic route to dealing with some of his own issues. Drinking wasn't a choice here, or at least Alexis wasn't going to let it be an option for him. Well, maybe he ought to give this a shot, if only because his conscience wasn't going to let him just walk away.
He sighed and shook his head."Yeah...professional help."He looked at her."Do I look like a professional to you?"He turned away for a moment, sighing again."Look, I don't need the Force to tell that you lost something. Or someone...maybe both, even. You're alone in the galaxy now, the last of whatever squad, order, group, whatever you were. It's gone, isn't it?"He looked at her again, his face still stoic but his eyes were giving away his own sense of loss."Am I right?"

I could have said "I know" but I didn't. Even though Jedi are supposed to be open-minded in terms of the Force and how it manifests itself to individual Jedi, some of them are still thrown off-guard by those who have been gifted/cursed with precognition. Nathan understood. Dav understood. Joshua's life had been saved by it, and the two of us had the inexplicable beginnings of a strong Force Bond. But, a lot of people are put off by it. And if I'm honest, I'd have to admit that meeting someone like me, would be unnerving on a good day, probably terrifying on a bad one.
Alexis smiled enigmatically. "You also look in need of help. That is help not found at the bottom of a bottle or glass." So saying, she finished the last of her drink and pondered the galaxy in her fingertips. Her thoughts were beginning to feel a bit woozy and smooshed together. She looked back up at him, noting the depths of shadow lurking under his stoic expression, particularly about the eyes which seemed a shade hollow. "Yeah, you could say so. Yavin 4's Praxeum was under siege by the Mandalorians, but everything went wrong. Dragon Squadron as such is nonexistent now. I was on Dressel." Perhaps her biggest disappointment was that she had never gotten to say goodbye to Dav. There was so much that she had not said, and now she'd never have the opportunity to fix that. She still found it hard to believe that the legendary Jedi x-wing squadron was gone. She'd fought so hard to be a part of it, and the day she'd passed Dav's final flight test and been given her own fighter and astromech was the proudest of her life so far.

Atton knew that the answers to life's problems weren't found at the bottom of a glass, but that didn't mean that he liked hearing it. Especially from a girl who happened to have finished her second drink and might start on a third, but so far she hadn't ordered an extra one.
He listened to her explanation, about the Mandalorian siege of Yavin, and he wasn't surprised when she said that "everything went wrong". He knew how that felt, to have a plan to defend some place and to have it all go to hell. And she hadn't even been there to help defend her home, which could either be better or worse than actually standing at a distance and watching your home burn to the ground under a hail of bombers...
For just a moment, tragedy flashed across his face, but it was gone in an instant as he quickly regained control of himself. One thing Atton had gotten good at over the years was reigning in his sorrows quickly, either to focus on a mission, or in this case, a conversation. He sighed heavily."Nothing ever goes right in war...I'm sorry. For whatever that's worth."

"Yeah." There wasn't really anything else to say about it right now. Alexis didn't want to dwell on it here. If anything untoward happened, like her breaking down and crying, she'd much rather not be in public.
She took the smallest of sips of the third glass of ale. The two empty ones were lined up near her elbow. When she looked back over at Kaelan, he seemed a bit blurry around the edges. But, she knew he wasn't a hologram.
"So... what now? You involved in the war?" She'd hopped in to Yavin, briskly explored, and flown offworld even faster after a small brush with a Mandalorian patrol. Their idea of redecorating the interior of the Praxeum left much to be desired in her opinion.

Atton noticed that she was starting to get buzzed, if she wasn't drunk already. Her small frame probably wouldn't be able to handle as much alcohol as other, larger individuals could. She probably wouldn't be very coherent for much longer if she kept going.
He sighed heavily when she asked him if he was involved in the war, which should have been obvious. He had only been back for a very short time and thus had no opportunity to join in any of the fighting, not that he wanted to. He was tired of fighting, as he had done quite a bit of it in the past already, and thus had little interest in joining the fight. But if the past was any indication, he'd be drawn in one way or another...
A flash of annoyance crossed his face once more. He knew she was getting drunk and had probably forgotten that he had told her about having just returned to service within the Order, but still, it was annoying to have to repeat oneself."No. I thought I told you, I've only been back for one day."He sighed again."And I have no interest in fighting...which means that I'll be dragged back in one way or another."

Louy walked into the canteen, his light use of Force sight guiding him. As he entered, Louy put up his hood, not wanting his scarred appearance to affect anyone's appetite. He sat at an empty spot in the corner of the room away from most people. Louy didn't want to attract attention to himself, although that may be inevitable.
Louy felt a good deal of emotion between two individuals at the bar. He shifted his attention to them briefly, but soon shifted away as he could tell that it was not a conversation that he should eavesdrop on. Louy began to survey the rest of the room when a service droid approached him.
May I take your order, sir?
Ah, yes. I will take whatever seems to be the most popular dish today. And water.
I will be right back with your order.
The droid took off with Louys order. Louy watched, his eyes aglow from under his hood, the rest of the Canteen as he waited for his food to arrive.
