Express your malice or discontent toward the Sithies here.
And, if you hate them as much as I do, this can also function as a petition to see them gone for good.
I'm signing that petition first.

Alky, I really have to ask...
Why so much hate for something that's just plain fun? Did you get snubbed in some why? Or is it just a anti-establishment thing? Or is it more of a petulant child thing?
Cause I'm totally lost on why anyone would be so enraged by something that's fun and always a good source or laughs.
Hugs and kisses.

The best part is always when OrfAshrIniquitous shows up.
Of course, this year one of his heads will be dead.
The smell is going to be horrible...

My initial response was to dismiss this as either trolling or the work of a needy attention whore, or perhaps a juvenile little shithead who lost out one year and felt the need to let everyone know exactly how he was wronged, regardless of the fact that very few people could actually give a good goddamn. However, that wouldn't be constructive, and it's entirely possible that those initial assumptions were unfounded.
So, in the interest of public discourse, what exactly are your grievances in regards to the Sithies? We're always looking to improve the way things are run, and constructive criticism is always welcome, assuming it is presented in a civil manner. Simply insisting that you hate the Sithies and that it should be banished forever will accomplish exactly nothing, aside from pissing everyone off and causing a shitstorm.

It's a popularity contest. It does nothing productive. All I see is a bunch of people voting on what they believe is a better piece of writing than another piece of writing. It's a site meant for writing for fun. At the end of a competition like that, people feel bad, because it takes the writing they did and puts a value on it.
Call me crazy, but I feel like the imposition of value or "good"/"better"/"best" on something written purely for enjoyment trivialized it and fosters contempt. Whether on a visible level, or beneath the surface. Yeah, I get it, "I don't have to be a part of it," but let's face it. Everyone gets sucked into it. Whether or not you're "involved" in a direct manner, you're involved. It's geared toward being a sitewide thing.
That's my problem with it. You tell me, "don't involve myself," but that implies the obvious issue- I'd have to not be on the site not to be affected. I'm going to see notifications, there will be competitions, it'll suck life out of well written RP, and the people who want nothing to do with it will still have to deal with it.

Lois take a letter!
Dear Sithy Awards,
Where do you get off? A rocking good time and promoting player recognition? Who do you think you are? By now, you may have guessed I'm speaking ironically and have nothing but good things to say about what you do. Sithy Awards, do not change a thing.
Signed Adrien Draykon Dictated but not read.
Lois, read that back to me?
Alright all joking aside. Relax man, have fun with it and don't let it get to you so much. It's easier not to acknowledge it than you might think. Just don't get caught up in the awards so much and enjoy the event.

No one's gonna like everything everyone else does. Doesn't mean others are gonna stop doing what they want to suit me or you, just as you're not going to follow others' whims in life. If people want to run an awards show and give out prizes and recognition, then let them. That's where they choose to put their energy and direction. There's no reason you couldn't find enough people to write with while the thing is going on. At least, thats my opinion. That being said, Darian is well entitled to express his own views and opinions, at least he should be, without being denigrated. He should be applauded for having the guts to stand up and be honest about his views, without simply going with the flow.

I agree, Liam. and Alky does have his say and opinion (at least in my book). Plus he did give us his take on the Sithies. So, I for one, won't be giving him any guff. I never was in the first place. But I will retort, just to play devil's advocate.
Yes, In a way it is, but saying that it does nothing productive for the site is arbitrary at best. In all my years on this site I've never known anyone to just give up writing because they weren't nominated or chosen for a Sithie. However I have witnessed RPers writing better afterwards on these forums, for whatever reason, and I see no fault in that. Ok, I will be calling you crazy then... If an RPer gets bent out of shape over a fake awards ceremony (Where the points don't matter), and they somehow feel their work (writing) has been trivialized in some why. Then yes, that's crazy talk. I'm pretty sure there's never been a "Worst RPers" category of the Sithies...so, why project that image? It's all in the RPer's perception. You either feel you write well, or bad. The Sithies is a site-wide meet and greet to say; "Here are some exceptional characters/writers, that we think you'll all like and maybe want to learn a thing or two from." I'm pretty sure that the Sithies don't say; "Well, we're elitists and you're all shitty writers..so there." That's definitely not the point of it. The point is to see who has grown as an RPer or a character or as a writing group on this site. That's the point, a small amount of tipping of the hat and a nod or two..then back to RPing. How are you effected? Other than by your own contempt; due to your perception. Yes, it's a site-wide calling for submissions, but you don't have to be directly involved. Plus I've never seen the Sithies "suck the life" out of any planned RPs or SLs, ever. That opinion is totally yours and yours alone, my friend. My suggestion would be to continue on doing your thing, you're an excellent RPer and duelist, and truth be told I was going to put you up for "Best Darksider" this time around because I have enjoyed RPing with you again, but you've tied my hands.
Know that i'm not here to bash, but I'm trying to understand your stance.

Expressing one's opinion is never frowned upon. Doing so in an actively hostile manner, however, is. Therein lies the problem.
The manner in which the Sithies were handled in the past pissed me off. The top five thing, for instance, annoyed me to no end. While the intentions were undoubtedly good, the manner in which it, and complaints about the system, were handled, was less than agreeable. The Sithies are put on for the players, and actively ignoring the will of a large section of the player base defeats the purpose of the event. Instead of whining about it or shunning the event, I chose to participate this year.
The perception that the Sithies is simply a popularity contest is one that had been around since its inception. It is my goal to do my level best to ensure that the judging is based solely on the merit of the writing, rather than how well like any particular nominee is. This is a view shared by most, if not all of the staff this year. I cannot speak for the past iterations, and I don't speak for the crew as a whole this year, but I am fairly confident in saying that we've got a better system in the works. We would be greatly appreciative if you'd hold off on the public flogging of our efforts until after you've seen the results. If you're still convinced that it's nothing more than a popularity contest, well, that's on you.

Thank you, Eralam..I don't think I could have said it better myself! Indeed, we are giving our best effort to ensure that the judging is fair and unbiased as possible. We are trying a few new things, and using some of the older stuff that -did- work in the past. The judging crew, the team that is working this ceremony? It is, without a doubt the best that I have ever seen thus far in the history of the Sithies. Far and away, these guys won't let you down....
If by the end of it there aren't marked improvements in the opinions of what it has been in the past vs what we are trying to do, well, have at the hate threads. Til then? Just give us a chance to try and make it work. This is being done for the enjoyment of JvS, and I for one want to make this special.

Agree with what Ade said. What I post isn't for the Whills or anyone my character doesn't interact with. They're for myself and the people I write a story with. If someone thinks my writing is worthy of attention, bless them, but I'm not here for other people to vindicate my writing. I just simply enjoy it. We're role players, we collaborate on a series of stories. We're not here to win Pulizers. I know my opinion is tainted simply because I was a nominee but it's not like I mark my calendar for the Sithies. As long as everyone in my SL enjoys my writing, I'll keep posting. Shouldn't that count for something?

I've been down the grudge path before, harboring frustration over things that didn't matter, and instigating problems where there were none. Not worth it. Ruined a lot of good RP potential, as well as relations between writers. Crusades are never a good thing.

Everyone has a right to express their thoughts.
I like the sithies.
Darian made a petition... I am pretty sure he can do that... If none is intrested, then thats that. If the thread gets some constructive discussion, then thats for the good too.
Also, I dont remember the sithies being obligatory.
so, with that cleared out, can we go back to being all friendlylike, with flowers in our hair and listen to some Jefferson Airplane?
