It has come to our attention that in years past, there was some discussion that that Sithies had devolved into a popularity contest. Our aim has never been to divide the community, rather to bring light to those among us who inspire others and drive the marvelous galaxy of stories forward with every post. However there are so many facets to our community that we would like to expand the Sithies to encompass a new type of award. An award that rests not in the hands of judges who are looking for the epitome of lightsidedness or the embodiment of Kad Ha'rangir, but in the hands of the community. This is not an undertaking we wish to pursue if the idea is not well received by the site at large.
We would like your input on a matter we have dubbed the Player's Choice Awards. The categories would be some that we feel lend themselves better to selection by the community at large, perhaps Most Badass Post or Favorite Couple. None of these awards would be entitled Best, those are for the Sithies. But we feel there are some people who deserve recognition for their contributions to the site.
We would like to put some responsibility on you. You would nominate posts, characters, or scenarios. A seconded nomination would seal their place in the final vote. At the end of nominations, a voting thread would put in place to tally votes for the top five nominees in each category. All of it would be in your hands. You choose your favorite couple, your favorite funny post, your favorite badass moment. The winners would be honored during the Sithies and receive a plaque to display on their profile. (To keep the ceremony short, they will be acknowledged and receive their plaques but not get to make a speech.)
So what I'm asking for is a vote from you. Would you like to see something like this implemented? Yes or no.
If you vote yes, comment below with any categories you would like to see a Favorite __________ of. Those getting the most hits will be considered for inclusion this year.

I like the new tack the Sithies is taking. I agree; it's not supposed to be a popularity contest, but more of a merit to aspire to.
Quite frankly, I doubt we can accurately match an award to the most deserving person. But that doesn't matter. What does matter is recognition, not of the person, but that there is good writing out there.
So, here's some of my ideas:
Plots
Really Long Running Arc
What writer or writing team has a series of characters consistently involved an arc for a really long time? It's something like a consistency or endurance award.
Really Massive Plots
A plot with the most amount of people that got off the ground and stuff happened.
Great Scene
For a moment, I was able to lose myself on a planet, far far away. Nice descriptive writing that makes for great immersion.
Characters
Well, this is what JvS is all about. All I can suggest is the arbitrary nine-point alignment system that covers most types of characters.
The Merit of Law and Order, for Good and Righteousness
The Lawful Good. That person who does what's right, because the law says what's right and he does it right.
You're a Good Guy, Good Guy
The Neutral Good. Do what you feel is right. Trust your instincts.
The Unintentional Do-gooder
Chaotic Good. Protector of endangered insects and Star Destroyer vandal. Occasionally, you might even be the bane of other do-gooders, just because they're not as good as you.
Lawful above All
The Lawful Neutral. Follow the law. When you're not sure what to do; follow the law.
Keeper of the Balance
True Neutral. Right or wrong, that's not your problem. You're here to keep things neat and tidy.
Free Spirit
Chaotic Neutral. You hedonist, anarchist, whimsical creature that does whatever it wants, when it wants.
Law of Evil
The Lawful Evil. The law gives me the right to be evil. And I'm just following orders. Even if I signed those orders.
I'm Evil
Neutral Evil. I'm evil because I can be evil. Because I like being evil. Because I'm good at it.
MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Chaotic Evil. Batshit insane, mixed with equal parts sociopath. Usually lacks any reason other than "fun".

Because of the nature of Player's Choice awards, the number of times someone is nominated will weight their chances for inclusion in the final voting. Although, if there are more than 5 who have several mentions from community members, I would probably bump it up to include them as well. We thought 5 was a decent field for the size of the community that came over from 1.5, but if we have good turnout, we're not beholden to it.
