I don't believe we've discussed it. We'll hash that out before the nominations open in November and let you know.

Awesome. Now, as for the awards... I like the sound of these: Favorite Doctor(s) Favorite Couple Funniest Post Most Badass Post Epic Post (not badass....just...EPIC) Though instead of favorite doctor, maybe favorite non-combat character? That way it can include the generally pretty small pool of mechanics and other support personnel as well. Those that don't have any significant combat abilities. I'm also in favor of a warrior award, though maybe greatest warrior instead of most brutal. That way it's more open to the writer's discretion than the more limited parameters of "most brutal" (because let's face it, no lightsider is going to get the most brutal award). Thirdly, I like Gukky's first three suggestions too. Especially the marathon award. Though maybe expand it to include writers that have stuck together through a long series of shorter story arcs as well. Basically an award for those that have stuck it out through thick and thin with a core group of people. Like Yavin and Umgul and the older smuggler crews. I don't think we need alignment awards though. Best plot twist is another one I like, along with the two "most notorious" suggestions by Ex. Also: Most terrifying character is a good one.

Plot twist is one I find odd. You would have to be familiar with the entire plot in order to know if the twist was any good or not.
For example: The Sixth Sense
1. You watch the movie and never see the ending coming. It blows your mind.
2. Someone spoils the ending for you. You never really watch the movie then and when people try to talk to you about how awesome the twist was, you don't really see it because you didn't experience the whole movie and all the tension and drama.
Best Plot Twist is really Plot Spoilers For People Not in This RP. People who are then curious about the RP might go back and read it, but the plot is already spoiled for them.

Hmm... True. Though if the only reason they were reading the RP was because of the award, then they won't ever read it if the award doesn't get given, so instead of having the plot ruined they'll just never hear about it in the first place.
I guess it depends on whether you want more people to potentially read/hear about it or to avoid spoilers.

I would suggest Best Looking Crew, but the Sons of Bounty would take that out. Three shiny Mandos, Nordic good looks, and... Lia. I suppose I hold them back a bit, but we would win hands down purely on the lovely Lia Corusa.
In all seriousness, I like the idea of having awards that recognize the fighters;
Most popular duelist Best duelist General of the Year Admiral of the Year
the writers; The William Shakespeare award for genius creativity in epic posts - for those people who write multiple, long, well written posts Most popular RPer Most skilled RPer Funniest RPer RP Contributer of the year - someone who has shown continuous contribution to RP through the entire year The "I am your father" award - For the best "reveal" post of the year; where a character/plot/item surprise is revealed to the RP audience
I sort of came up with these while throwing around the idea in my head that "Most popular" sounded better than "Best", but then its important to try and recognize both sides of the coin, so maybe it's not such a bad thing to have more categories in order to be more inclusive.

I think "Most Skilled RPer" is a category that should never ever be introduced into the Sithies. For obvious reasons.

I kind of get the idea behind "Most Skilled RPer", but as Erevis said, it's not appropriate - it's more than a little subjective, and the kind of motivation behind it is already covered by the best overall RPer award anyway.
Most Popular RPer, similarly... that's just a popularity contest, out and out, without any kind of merit to it, and trying to come up with a criteria for such an award would be a nightmare.
I do like the idea of a RP contributor award. It's true that there are some RPers who are just constantly bringing something extra to an RP, RPers who contribute to as many RPs as they can, in as big a way as possible.

What makes a RPer skilled anyway? A killstreak? How many friends? Prolific? Intensity? Language usage? Initially, I agreed with you, Dav Man'Sell, but I think it should be included. All these awards are subjective but it should be to a criteria and not an opinion. It's pretty prestigious and I think that there are people out there that deserve it. They're more than a brutal/funny/Overlord/plot twist/best new character and its important that its recognized.

Well, that's what the Best Overall RPer award is for. I don't honestly see how a Most Skilled RPer award differs from that by that definition, and if the definition for Most Skilled RPer does differ from Best Overall, then it's probably becoming inappropriate.
It's also not usually a great idea if a Whill has Vetoed with as much conviction as Erevis has. Perhaps Erevis will be able to explain more eloquently why he's opposed to it.

When the Whill says no, the answer is no. We, as a staff, take our direction from them. Most Skilled is a slippery slope of ambiguity that neither I as manager, nor the Whills want to see anyone go down.
If you will notice the discussion threads up for criteria at the moment, it asks for what defines a great character. That is what we seek to recognize. Skill implies grasp of the language and there are several excellent writers here who do not have English as a first language. I would not wish to disparage their contributions simply because they may not have fully grasped the intricacies of our native tongue.
This thread is for the discussion of player's choice award categories. Best Overall is in the Sithies and is the closest I ever want to come to that third rail of controversy.
Thanks for your contributions to the discussion thus far and keep it up with the ideas!
