Salutations,
Sithies nominations are going to be starting soon, and we know you folks are chomping at the bit to get started. There's been a lot a controversy surrounding previous Sithies, and we're looking to dodge the worst of it this year. To that end, there have been several changes to the nomination and judging processes.
First and foremost: nominations will be private. Nominations will be PM'ed to the Sithies Managers and Whill Erevis. You'll send in your list of nominees as well as a sample of the writer's work that you believe best represents why they deserve the award. You may include 3 examples per nominee with links. Also, you may also only nominate two entries per category, so please make your nominations count. Even if someone is nominated more than once, they will only have 1 entry in the judging with a maximum of 5 posts. The Sithies managers (myself and Adi) are not judges.
Material eligible for nomination will emcompass both the new site and the old site back to April 1, 2012. We realize there might be a little overlap, but it shouldn't be too much. Nominations are not restricted to accounts on the new site. If you wish to nominate someone who did not make the transition to this site, you may do so.
We will be taking nominations from the 1st of November until 30th of November. Once your nominations are received, the managers will be assigning them entry numbers, removing character names and replacing them with generic generated Star Wars names and then posting them for the judges to read. Judges will not know who the nominees are; their decisions will be based solely on the posts. They will then privately send their votes in for collection. Adi and I will compile the votes and have them verified by Whill. In the event of a tie, there are 3 non-judge/manager members of staff (Dav, Adrien and Dr. Wilhelm) who will be asked to cast a deciding vote.
The judges will not know how the others voted unless they share that information among themselves. The top 5 nominees in each category with the most votes (not nominations) will be announced as the official nominees for the Sithies around January 1st. Winners will be announced at the Sithy Awards ceremony starting January 15th on Dressel.
Just before nominations open, we will post another announcement listing award categories. For the next month, we will be discussing judging criteria for the categories with the site at large. We want to know what you think makes the best lightsider, best non-force and so on.
If you have questions, concerns, thoughts, just let us know.
