Heya Whills (and lurkers),
I'm sure you've noticed/heard that I've been trying to do some freelance marketing for the site trying to get more members to join. I'm sure I don't have to state that the site seems to be going slow, with whole systems untouched for several days and many planets ignored. Now this isn't something new, in the time that I've RPed on JvS I've seen some planets that would just sit there with nothing going on. But never whole systems.
I completely am under the impression that the Whills and Admins of this site have done an awesome job, and that the real reason that we are getting this issue, is because we aren't getting new members. Another issue that I've noticed is how SLOW the RP has become, and I certainly understand that there is a world outside of JvS. But when you have 3 characters, and are waiting for posts for all of them, you start to wonder wtf is going on?! Part of this slow RP is that I guess our member base has become something of a small set of what it once was, and since we all are familiar with each other we tend to be more patient.
1.0 new members wasn't an issue, everything we did just about was on Facebook which is a huge medium and has a vast world covering audience. In 1.5 we kind of saw a slight not so vast rise in RPer's but there still was a somewhat steady stream of them and a LOT more RP.
Now, I've personally made it a goal to get some new members into the fold. I've been marketing on Reddit, various other forums (not gaming mind you), blogs, and Twitter. And I have a few ideas on what we can do to get some audience base and members in from Facebook. The idea on facebook basically would be either posting nice pictures that are related to our niche (Star Wars) and using the hashtags in a manner that might make them show up (Jedi, Sith, war, battle, fight, you get it). Also we could have some of our RPer's "donate" posts to the group where they could RP with each other (again utilizing hashtags at the bottoms of the posts) and let OUTSIDERS see what we do here.
I did some tweets earlier, and managed to get them favourited. That is what JvS' twitter needs to do, constant tweeting (okay not constant, but maybe 1-2 an hour). Throw out a few SW trivia facts, hashtag them up, when a tournament is going down in JvS through it out there to sign up on twitter. Just always have a URL in the tweet leading back to somewhere here on JvS, utilize hashtags (see if some of the trending ones can be used to broaden your scope), and if you know a few people (like say me, or some other JvS'r that has a twitter) kindly ask them to retweet it. Favoriting is cool, but retweeting lets that URL go out there into the Twittosphere again and generate more crawler and live traffic.
I've been hitting up reddit putting news about this site out there too. So if you have a reddit, 5 minutes, and don't mind upvoting the topic and dropping a quick little opinion on the site please do it HERE! Also I put our site on one of those top 100 listing sites, now the niche I threw it in isn't too populated, but it does have RP in it and the OTHER ones had over 1k votes so we would likely not be seeing the first page unless we all had a few proxies and wanted to do it that way lol so if you want, click HERE and vote for Jedi vs Sith and just keep the vote climbing and maybe it will help improve how well JvS can be found.
