So I was trolling 1.5 looking for some ideas that I can do on this site and I came across this gem. It was written by our loving Sinistra at some point when they were talking about the good ole days. I liked it and I feel like a lot of us over here will like it so I shall copy and paste it from there in 5...4....3...2...1
NOW
So yeah who likes this?
NOW
A few of us have recently been been talking about the old days and I remembered something that used to bring together a bunch of people like clockwork.
For those who don't remember or weren't around back then, every other Friday night or so, in a FB group called the Battle Arena, there was a planned out battle RP. It last from about 7pm EST until the wee hours of the morning. There would be a sign up a week before hand, outlining the battle; location, sides, objectives for all parties and who the judges were.
Usually about 50-60 people would show and in real time with small posts, they would RP out a battle. One of my favorite was a battle on Hoth. The Jedi had been secretly designing and building terra forming machines.
The Sith objectives were as follows:
Steal a terraforming machine. It was as big as a steamroller and about as slow.
Download and steal the plans for the technology. It took 30 minutes to download the plans. Who ever was doing it had to be defended. If they got attacked and had to defend themselves, the timer reset.
Destroy the computer and terraforming machines if either of the above objectives failed.
Jedi objectives were pretty simple:
Maintain at least one terraformer.
Stop them from stealing plans.
Destroy the Sith base.
These fights were beautiful organized chaos. People got to interact with people they had never met before. The results of the battle were binding in universe, but no one had to give up a planet (egads! the horror!) and there were judges to make sure no one was calling hits or cheating the timers. The objectives were given points and who ever scored the most points, won the battle.
Posts were short, it was a few sentences to block a move and make a counter, maybe. The idea wasn't to write a gorgeous fight. It was to have a battle where it didn't matter what side won because we were all having fun.
I was wondering if people would want to give something like this a try again.
The battle would last one Friday night in real time. You can't be there, don't sign up. Team effort wins, it's not every man for himself. GBA rules would not apply. Long posts would be discouraged. If your opponent has to leave the battle, you find a new opponent or go for the objective. If the judges call battle over, everyone writes their way off to fight another day. No calling hits. Appointed battle mods have final say on hits, timers and cleared objectives. No GMing or PGing.
If you've never fought, this is a great way to get your feet wet. If the GBA or duels scare you, this is a good way to have some fun with a battle but in such a way that doesn't look for loopholes or flowery language.
I'd be happy to offer a scenario if anyone is interested?
