What is your stance on posting orders?
Personally I feel like they have their place but I'm not a fan generally. I feel like they sometimes take away from the organic feel of active posting, not to mention if someone can't be on it halts the entire storyline if you're waiting on one person. There are exceptions of course but on the whole I feel like they are largely unnecessary. But maybe that's just me. What do you all think?

I'm with you. I get it in big SL's but in live conversation we don't follow a speaking order. It feels odd to make a posting order based on taking turns. Some people are just more gabby than others.

I like them as a general guide for large groups, but they are by no means the end all be all of the boards. Shit happens, ya know?

Like the other two I like them when there are a lot of people, but for smaller group there isn't much of a point.

Nope. Posting order is just something that happens if it happens. After all, in a group if 5, just because 1 says something to 2, doesn't mean we have to wait to see 3, 4, and 5's thought blurb on it even though 2 must react to 1.
The only time it matters to me is in battle.

There are times I've felt that posting order is vital for whatever the current plot is, but there have been other times when I've felt completely stymied / hog-tied / held hostage by a post-order. Colour me middle-of-the-road.

situational.. combat situations pritty much demand a post order. just so things stay liner/possable... (lag in text o_0)
conversations... i know OOC i tend to stop when someone interrupts me but theres also the possibility of side conversations going on in the same group which dont really need to be in order.
mid road situational for me

I only use it to keep combat as fair as possible, everywhere else I post when I can regardless of who else has or has not posted yet, unless they've specificly asked that I wait for them to post by X date, and then I will usually wait out of common courtesy.

It's good to have a posting order, if only to prod people to stay involved, but it's even more important to have the level of OOC trust in your collaborators that you can break the order when necessary. If something is happening that really doesn't involve some of the participants, or if you know that someone will be away for a while, then you have to adapt. Posting orders shouldn't be a hard and fast rule, except in cases of PC vs PC combat. At the same time, you have to be careful about disregarding the established order. If there's something that I known that another player will want to respond to, and has a right to answer, then I will wait, unless I can post without robbing them of that opportunity.
