I know this is Sin's brainchild, but since she's hella busy, I thought it might be a good idea to get the ball rolling on working out the specifics while she's off dealing with the other craziness. Bear in mind that while none of this is set in stone, the basic idea has more or less been agreed upon. If you have any groundbreaking ideas or revelations, feel free to voice them, but I wouldn't hold my breath on getting any really dramatic changes made. I hear anoxia is a pretty unpleasant way to go.
Anyway, for those of you unfamiliar with the upcoming Cold War, here's the basic breakdown as I understand it. After the conclusion of the Battle of Kuat, the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic will emerge as the dominant superpowers in the galaxy. Oh, and they hate each others' guts. Anyway, basically, they'll be the big umbrella factions under which the assorted light and dark side factions will fall. Neutral and criminal elements will likely form their own umbrella factions, but exactly what form they'll take has yet to be determined. I'm assuming that's one of those things we'll work out in this thread. Also, the names of the umbrella factions are still up in the air. Sith Empire seems pretty much a no brainer, as they are Sith that have formed an Empire, but last I heard, the Republic thing might be subject to change. Anyone want to clarify?
The basic idea is that the superpowers hate each other, and have embargoed each others' goods, expelled their ambassadors, and generally closed their borders to anyone that falls under the category of "enemy." They dare not engage in open warfare. At first, this is because both sides are recovering from the Mandalorian Force Crusade (come up with a better title and that's what I'll start calling it,) but as time goes on, it will likely be because either A: both sides are too weak from the aftermath of the sanctions to do more than snarl at each other or B: both sides are too massive to really do any damage to the other without committing to the sort of all or nothing offensive that no sane leader would ever seek out. These are only two possible scenarios, mind. It's impossible to tell how it will really play out. As a little green wrinkly thing once said, "Always in motion, the future is."
What this leads to instead is, you guessed it, a cold war. The Cold War, if you want to get all proper nouny and shit. Instead of openly duking it out, espionage, economic warfare, small scale skirmishes, and other such skulduggery will be the name of the game. The criminal element stands to make a huge profit off of selling black market goods to either faction, as well as acting as officially sanctioned smugglers, privateers and the like. On a more personal note, Dressel will be completely neutral to any and all factions. I'd like to host an embassy farm of sorts so that the factions have some sort of IC communication through diplomatic means, but also because I enjoy pimping out my planet. I'm a bad, bad robot.
So that's the skinny. The first thing to figure out, as far as I can tell, is which factions belong where. To that end, I'm making a list. Add your faction under the appropriate heading. I suppose unaligned individuals could also throw their names in the hat as well. I'm going to make a few assumptions from the get go, mainly that the Dark Tide will be under the Empire and that the Jedi will fall under the Republic. Once the list gets going, you'll know who to contact in order to get the IC side of things rolling for your particular group.
