No I don't want to pull anyone away from their storylines, no I don't want to write an alternate timeline, and while I need something to do with my crew, that isn't exactly what I had in mind. No, instead I want to make a very special JotW. It won't be an ongoing story, nor will it be something you'll have to wait on others to post, so post when you feel like it. But I'm sure by now, you're all wondering what my idea is. Patience, I've barely gotten started.
Our characters are something that a lot of us cherish, and more importantly they are our faces on the site, a simple way for us to be recognized by many. But what are our ways to advertise our characters? I mean really advertise them, aside from popping into chat and saying "hey I posted, you wanna check it out?" or making a thread here that a lot of the time tells remarkably little about who your character is, what you want to do with him or her, or what type of storylines you are currently in. What do you do to make people think, "Man I'd really like to read some of his/her/their stuff."? I know in my mind what the easiest way to garner attention, aside from shoving your posts under someone's nose of course. Two words:
Character trailers.
"Adrien, what do I mean my this?" Well it's pretty straight forward but I'll elaborate since you asked. Think of that movie you're dying to see because it looks like an AMAZINGLY AWESOME LEGENDARY EPIC THAT WILL BLOW YOUR FREAKIN' MIND!!!!...
Ok so maybe an exaggeration but stick with me. You could write a trailer for your newest storyline, for an upcoming storyline, you could make up a storyline that will just make your character look like the complete badass they probably already are. Basically you could go anywhere with it and it would only serve to gain you some recognition for your writing and much more importantly expose you to other writers and them to you in a fun way that will showcase their character, preferred story arcs, and writing skill. I for one feel like this is something worth bringing to light.
So I guess what I'm asking here is simply this, if I made a thread for something like this would anyone use it besides me?

I'll pass. The writing should speak for itself.
What's the best way to interact with other players? Interact with other players.

Sweet. So let's talk rules. Now I know what you're thinking : "Rules!? This blows!"......Well slow your role. You're allowed to write whatever you want, the rules are for the thread itself, basically a guide to how this thread should be handled. So here's what I'm thinking. Collaborate with various writers or write one on your own, in either case, keep it to one post. Is this saying you can't do multiple trailers? No, not at all, it's simply stating that this is not a post by post RP thing, it's an advertisement for you, your group, your story, or just something you to give your imagination an exercise. Make as many as you want but make them separate trailers/post that bring something new to the table each time. Go all out, above and beyond if you want, add trailer music, record your own voice over, hell make a full on youtube video if you want. Add an opening crawl, graphics, anything you can think of. Make it awesome! Credit everyone involved. If you use content from other people's posts then make sure you give them recognition, if you use someone else's character then make sure you get their permission beforehand (unless of course you're writing with that person an then it's kind of implied.) One of these would do the trick nicely. Do what you want, but if you're advertising your storyline I would advise against spoilers. And adding links to said storyline would be nice for the reader. If anyone else has any suggestions then by all means chime in, if not then have fun. The thread should be up shortly.
