Dane listened to his explanation of the mask. He found it fascinating, forcing people to read his body instead of his face. Dane could think of uses for such a thing, a way to mislead an enemy. When he asked about their gear, Dane nodded. "As far as we know, though you bear a lance without a blade. Strange. "
Dane held his his hand up in a fist, a gesture that they stop, and looked around, scanning with the force. In one fluid motion, almost faster than a blink, his lance came down from his shoulder and he snapped off a shot, rewarded by the sound of someone falling into bushes. "Watchman, I've only wounded him. I'll retrieve him. Emma, stay with Zik Kine."
Dane disappeared into the foliage, leaving them alone while he sought his fallen quarry.

Emma opened her mouth to protest, but snapped it shut again as Dane took off into the woods. Irritation assailed her. She too had felt the presence in the Force. Why Dane decided to handle this himself was beyond her. She glanced sideways at the offworlder. His explanation of the mask didn't resonate with her. It almost seemed like it would aid his enemy by forcing the opponent to pay attention to his body. She mentally rolled her eyes, even as she continued to reach out with the Force, scanning the area.Offworlders and their strange ways.
She pushed a stray lock of red hair behind her, trying to stay alert for any of the band they were hunting, as well as keep an eye on Zik Kine. Was that Dane's intention? Emma's face scowled slightly at that as her blue eyes studied the strange man, taking in his unique hair and skin color, as well as his markings that rippled over taunt muscle and his strange, synthetic arm. Why are you helping us, Zik Kine? she blurted out unceremoniously. What do you care for this mission?

*Zik watched as Dane slipped of into the brush, then turned to regard his squire's question. Why was he helping? He certainly could have just ordered his ship to move on, yet he didn't as he felt the Forces tug from orbit. But that was only why he had come. He sighed and crossed his arms over his chest, his sleeves pulling up his wrists.
I care because, despite what idea your people have about off-worlders, not all of us can sit back while innocent people are made to suffer. And your Ranger's idea of what must be done is one I can agree with. It is regrettable that it has come to this, but they cannot be left to carry on. If that is not enough, surely you can understand when I say the Force guided my eye's here, and I am interested to see how this continues.

Emma continued to study Zik as he spoke, noticing the markings that peeked out from under his sleeve and getting a better view of his robotic hand and arm. She shrugged after he spoke, deciding to give him an inch of trust...but it was more out of the logic that if he wanted to harm them, it would have been easier to do so near his ship. His mere reassurances were not enough for her to give him any trust.
Her eyes were slightly unfocused as she monitored the area as she spoke to him, her voice still filled with unbridled curiosity. What planet are you from? How did you get here? She wanted to ask him to remove his mask as she wanted to watch his chiseled face while they spoke (they weren't enemies after all, right?), but didn't care enough to make a fuss of it. She wanted see his face, but she also wanted to try on his mask for herself. She wondered if he was human...he looked like a man, but not any man she had ever seen. His hair was white despite appearing youthful and his skin was unusually pale. Though slight, there was something about the way he walked and the infection in his voice that made Emma think Zik Kine might not be quite a human as he appeared. He did mention 'his people'...she wondered exactly what kind of people they were, especially if they were known for their martial ability.

Dane quickly found the Watchman he had wounded, who was dragging himself away. Dane reached out with the force and turned him onto his back. He quickly gagged him and threw him over his shoulder, taking him back to where Zik and Emma waited.
A short time later he rejoined Emma and Zik, dropping the wounded bandit on the ground and removing the gag, kneeling beside him. "Do you know who I am, outlaw? What my purpose is?"
The watchman was clearly in pain, but nodded his head. You are Toril, the Ranger. Ajakis told us you'd be following. I won't tell you nothin'!
Dane's eyes widened at the name. Ajakis was involved with these petty bandits? Surely not. He subtly reached out with the force to coax cooperation and honesty from the man's mind. "Ajakis? You lie. Ajakis is in the badlands."
The bandit chuckled and spat at him. Dane calmly wiped the spittle from his cheek on a sleeve. Ajakis leads us, we'll overthrow the nobles and take the valley for ourselves! He's seen it! with his force magic!
Dane nodded, his expression was grave as he rose. He mirthlessly shot the man then, his face grim. Ajakis with the outlaws was a problem. The renegade had been the most powerful ranger once upon a time, but he had forsaken his vows for the dark side, and the temptations of power. "Ajakis, this is worse than I thought. It is well you are with us Zik Kine, for Ajakis is a fell foe indeed."

*Was about to speak again when Dane came through the bushes with a captive. Zik chose to remain quiet throughout the short questioning. This wasn't his mission after all, he was just there to support the duo. Zik visibly winced when the man spat in Dane's face, and shifted his weight, watching the ranger work. The man's mention of magic and the distraught look on Dane's face welled up questions within the Echani, which remained in silence till after Dane dispatched the captured watchman. Zik would have seen him leaned on for more information, but again, it was Dane's mission, not his.*
I will answer all your questions when this is over, Emma, but for now...Dane, I am guessing you have a history with this Ajakis man? What can you tell me about him?

Emma's attention shifted entirely to Dane when he returned. She offered a low growl deep in her throat when the man mentioned Ajakis.Once upon a time, Ajakis had taken her to squire when she was seven years. She had been honored to be chosen by the most powerful ranger known to their order. He told her that some day, the two of them would rule their planet side by side as the most powerful rangers in history. He said they would see that their order was purified from corruption that had been slowly been taking root. Three years into her training, Ajakis made it known he had turned Renegade. At a mere ten years old, she had to make the decision to follow her Ranger, or abandon him. She chose to leave, but Ajakis would not let her go, promising that soon she would understand why he had to leave the order in order to purify it.
It had been the young Ranger, Dane Toril, that saved her from Ajakis' hold. He had just been knighted himself, but showed promise from an early age. Ever since then, Ajakis held a special hatred in his heart for Dane and Emma, strengthening further when he learned that Dane took Emma to squire to complete her training. He vowed he would kill Toril and take Emma back. Yet they slipped out of his grasp time and again, as Ajakis slipped out of theirs.
Emma could only think that this was some sort of trap her former Ranger was setting for them and for the first time, she genuinely was glad that Zik Kine was with them. She didn't know what the Renegade had planned, but they needed back up...even more than Zik.
She watched with great satisfaction as Dane ended the watchman. She ignored Zik's questions, turning to Dane. We need to inform the order. she said quietly, her blue eyes burning. This is probably a trap, we should not do this alone.

Dane heard both Zik and Emma, then looked off through the trees. This was no coincidence. Ajakis was dangerous, and he had tried to have revenge on Dane for keeping Emma from him for years. Ajakis had been obsessed with regaining her, in a manner that struck Dane as unwholesome. There was no time to hunt down the rest of the order.
They would need to strike.
"Ajakis was once a ranger. A great ranger. His hunger for power and his delusions of purifying the order led him to fall to the dark side. He was stripped of his lance and gauntlet and cast out. He was Emma's ranger before me. He has tried to reclaim her and kill me a number of times. We do not have time to find the rest of the order."
Dane's eyes grew cold and his entire demeanor changed, his force signature gathering power. "And I long ago tired of Ajakis. This will end today, one way or the other. Zik Kine, are you still with us?"
Dane looked at him squarely, hoping he would say yes, but committed to this course regardless.

*Zik was quiet for a time as he listened to what they both said. More people made the fight itself easier, but it created more instances for the innocent to get caught in the cross-fire. His robotic arm reached back, fingers curling around the contoured hilt of his sword. The blade glistened in the light that came through the trees as he pulled the sword free of it's scabbard. He spun the tip down to face the ground and gave Dane a firm nod.*
If he has hostages, there is no time to wait and look for the others. But from what you have said, it might be wise if Emma sticks to the tree's and keeps his bandits busy. It seems to me he might be more unstable if he is confronted by her directly.

Dane nodded, Zik's plan was as his had been. Emma would be safest in the cover of the trees. "I agree. Emma, you will stick to the tree line and offer us cover and suppression. Zik Kine and I will move in to destroy them in detail."
He smiled grimly and placed his hand on the side of her head affectionately. She had served him well . "If I fall, you must escape and find the rest of the order, tell them I say you are ready to be a true ranger. Do not get yourself killed trying to save me. I command it."

Emma put her hand over Dane's on the side of her head. Her green eyes burned into his fervently. Do not tell me to leave you... she said quietly enough so only her Ranger could hear. I have eighteen years, the same age you were when you became a Ranger and saved me. Why must I hide in the trees? I am not a child anymore, Dane. She used his first name to emphasis her point. Ajakis will be able to sense me, no matter where I am...should I not be with you, fighting him? I may be enough of a distraction for you to finally kill him. She removed her hand from his on the side of her head that was thread through her golden red locks. Her hand grasped the side of his own head, more lovingly than affectionately, almost giving away her true feelings. She took a step closer into his space so they were almost touching. Use me, Dane. she whispered, not wanting the outsider, Zik Kine to hear. Use me as bait to lure him into a vulnerable position...then kill him. Her bright green eyes pleaded with him. Do not command me to sit aside and watch, to run if you fall. I would never forgive myself. We are a team, we should always be together, especially in this.

Dane's face was grave, and he shook his head at her desire. She was brave and and dedicated, and he was very proud, but she was also young and given to flights of passion. "Yes, we are a team, which is why I need you to cover us from the trees. You are a good shot, likely even better than I am, and I need you to protect me from enemies I might not see, and to keep me from being overwhelmed by the others while I handle Ajakis. He will know you are here, be sure of that. The best way to keep from having to leave me for dead is to stay back and keep me from being so." He smiled and stepped back, shouldering his lance. "Trust in me Emma."

Emma stepped away from Dane as well, sighing with a huff. As you wish, Ranger Toril. she replied stiffly. She hardly glanced Zik as she brushed by him and disappeared into the forest to find a decent tree to climb and settle into. She would provide cover...but she was not going to leave Dane, not for all the power in the 'verse.

I hate to dampen heart felt goodbyes, but you may wish to save them. Neither of you are dying out here if I can help it. I have men on my ship capable of fighting, I will call upon them if the situation calls for it.
*The Echani spoke with the confidence of experience, despite not really knowing what the trio would be up against. He figured that most of the rogues men would not be armed for ranged combat which gave them the advantage. He wished there had been more time to go over what they expected Ajakis to do, but with lives at stake it would be best to keep to a few questions. *
What can we expect from the bandits in terms of fighting strength? And what can you tell me about how the rogue fights?

Dane turned his attention to Zik when he began to speak. He knew Emma would do her duty. He had trained her well, and while emotional she knew the wisdom of his orders. When Zik spoke of fighting men, Dane's eyes widened. "Fighting men? Truly? How many? I expect at least a dozen of the rascals in the outpost, plus Ajakis. A few men would go a long way, especially if I miss my guess. As for how Ajakis fights. Lances are rare weapons, and all known operational ones are accounted for. I expect he shall have a proper sword. His men a few bows, axes, cudgels, and long knives"
Dane scanned constantly with the force, searching for any additional threats.

In hyperspace, a corvette-class minelayer dropped out of hyperspace early, putting itself in the midst of deep space. On board, it carried the three relay stations, some fifty non-mass transceivers, and thirteen relay satellites that the Quincy had harvested, modified, and directly programmed over the past year - the components that, in their entirety, would make up the Quincy SpyNet. Placing the satellites, transceivers, and relay stations, however, was slow and grueling work - the corvette had to travel by sublight to exact coordinates, whereupon it released a transceiver, satellite, or relay, and then initiated tuning and orientation procedures. In tuning, the onboard communications officers communicated with the dropped component with the ships onboard communication suite, verifying that it was receiving all frequencies, and even testing encryption algorithms and droid brain logic. If everything checked out, they proceeded to orientation - specific coordinates were given, and the component then oriented towards that position - the corvette then made a short hyperspace jump, followed by a several hour sublight flight to intercept that orientations path. From there, another test of frequencies and protocols was done, before, finally, the corvette made the several hour sublight flight back to the primary space land, jumped back into hyperspace, and then repeated the process - some seventy times.
It would take the better part of three months (one week RL) to set up the entirety of the SpyNet array - meanwhile, the disaster that was the primary Listening post would -hopefully - be resolved by the time the array was put into place. Then again, if something could go wrong...it probably would.

Imperious-Class Star Destroyer: Elizabeth's Fury. Hyperspace Transition.
Xander sat on the bridge of his sole remaining vessel lost in meditation. He was sitting on the elevated command chair, legs crossed. The Force was ebbing and flowing as it usually did, though there were several events currently causing ripples. The galaxy threatening war consuming the planet of Dantooine was causing the biggest ripples. All of the information that he had gleaned from his grandson's vessel had been read and digested by the aged Zabrak. The galaxy was more or less as it had been. Constant conflict between the Sith and the Jedi. Aspiring factions vying for their slice of the universe. But such was the way of the universe. Doomed to continue the eternal struggle between the light and the dark. Though if he had his way, then the balance would be graciously shifted to favor the darkness. But first he needed to find a place in the universe where he could sink his claws in and begin anew with his Empire. As the Zabrak continued to sift through the current of the Force, he made note of several subtleties. Like the conflict currently afflicting Iridonia. Perhaps he would have to investigate that. And the machinations of this Imperial resurgence on Muunilinst. Each event stood out clearly in his mind's eye. It could only mean one thing. His sons were involved in these respective places. Which son was where he couldn't tell. But all would be revealed to him soon enough. Vladimir may enjoy a reunion but Viox would most likely not. Again, he was getting ahead of himself. He needed a place that he could retreat to. A safe haven. Up until recently, that place had been Rhommamool. But that had run its course. He was no longer interested in the crimson wasteland. It had held promise, but no longer. He had exhausted his resources trying to keep the damned wasteland under his control during the fall of his Empire, when it all reality he should have just packed up and vacated to the furthest reaches of space. At least then he would have something other than a single, fully stocked Imperious-Class Star Destroyer. Regardless, what was done had been done. There was no changing it now. And if his plans to conquer Zakuul came to fruition, he would already be ahead of the game again. When the time was right he would draw each and every sentient that had orchestrated his downfall and make them pay. Either by torture, killing them outright or corrupting and twisting them to serve him. One way or another, they would all pay. If he had learned anything during his near three thousand year lifespan it was patience. Patience was the one thing that could make or break his plans. If he wasn't patient, he would lay ruin to all of his plans before they ever had the chance to blossom into something more. And, after all, he had recently waited five long, arduous years before he could return in the flesh. So he was patient. He could tell they were drawing ever closer to Zakuul. It had an unmistakable aura in the Force. Powerful. Soon he would be taking the first steps to regaining what he had been robbed of. Soon...

As they accelerated along Boland grappled with how. All the laws of science that he had learned, during his cruel unorthodox education, led him to believe that their very existence was fictitious. The strange science that gave them this ability was near unimaginable. It was all quite wild really. His eyes locked on the screen the mind wandered as the girl lay peacefully and the bird tirelessly scanned the room visually picking it apart

Small moves govern the course of history, so it is said. In this here and now a subtle shift to avoid hitting a piece of debris the size of a pop can led them straight into an asteroid belt
The pilot muttered
-Pilot-
“Smooth move ex-lax; we’re going to die….”
A seasoned pilot, Fasd flew straight into the belt, as opposed to a futile attempt to pull away. On impulse he sent a distress message to An Tiarna. And on they went into the mystic....
A sudden chill shot up Gid's back. Her immediate reaction was to look at her sisters. Bothe seemed oblivious. Then nothing
A long debated theory is that concerning the relativity of time and space. And indeed a cornucopia of legend and myth germinated from this hypothesis. Here in our tale science and myth converge. For what seemed but a fleeting moment all went black. Nothingness. It may have been months – even years but it may have taken mere microseconds. All the apparatuses we place so much weight and faith on to measure time and space were thrown off course
