So I'm a few days late with this but I'd like to start a discussion and get some thoughts on the new cast for Star Wars. I personally was a little disappointed at the abundant amount of no name actors, or at least actors that I've never heard of, but then I saw that Andy Serkis would be joining the cast. Yes that's right Andy frakkin Serkis.
I thought about it a bit and came to the conclusion that even though the new cast are for the most part realtive newcomers that that isn't necessarily a bad thing. So on the whole I'm excited to see what they can do.
What do you all think?

Well it's safety assume at least one of the cast are going to be an alien. The man who played Gollum and other CGI characters is in the slot so I feel like we can expect a chewbacca/binks like character.
The others excluding Bill Weasly I don't know about at all

The lack of Billy-dee makes me sad. That being said, Chewbacca lives!! The whole Yuzzahn Vong fiasco was just a bad dream.

There's still hope for Billy Dee in VIII, i heard Han Solo will have a huge role in VII so some people are thinking that they may kill Solo in either VII or VIII and give Harrison Ford what he wanted back in the originals. If they kill Han Solo i think there's more of a chance we'll be seeing Lando in VIII
Also, just a recent rumor. Star wars 7 could be titled Order of the Jedi.

It'll be very risky to kill off Han though. Big risk of fan backlash from that, which is why I'm currently taking the 'Han gets killed off' rumor with a grain of salt.

I was really, really happy to see that photo of the cast meeting / round table discussion.
Does anyone else think Mark Hamill is looking quite good avec scruffy beard and about 50 lbs less?

A whole bunch of unknown actors, with a few well-established names....sounds exactly like the cast of the first Star Wars film. I'm certainly looking forward to what they'll bring to this new movie.
Also, Xeonon, I get what you're saying, but I just wanted to note that Chewbacca never was CGI: every single time you see him, it is Peter Mayhew in a costume. In fact, if I remember correctly, the only time ANY Wookiee in any of the films is "CGI" is in the major battle on Kashyyyk, and then they simply digitally inserted the same half-dozen or so actors several times to make the group look a lot bigger than it was. Still, I'm looking forward to what Andy will be doing

I know that, I mean like an alien sidekick type thing. Be it Lowbacca or what have you. With the way the movie industry is now its not to often you see a man in a suit. It still happens, but not like before. Every background character wont be some guy in a suit, it is going to be so much CGI just like the new sidekick.

Kevin smith a long time fan and director of Clerks was invited on set which led him to break out crying and hug J.J as if Abrams were giving life back to the Movies. I like Kevin, I think I trust when he says J.J got this spot on.
The mysterious magical feeling we got from the originals was brutally butchered by the all out war, the CGI, politics and science of the force. Star Wars is an old western, it's a good sign they've been filming in deserts and forests.
