==Chocolate of Doom== <<108 PP (118 ABY); G11 Sector, Lehon, SE Island 4593, Asteroid "Impact" Site>>
While there was technically no recording of the event beyond memory, too many of Clan D'Ordinii had their brains directly wiped into computer systems. The memories where quickly uploaded & shared across the Clan HoloNet. Something very odd had just happened. It took less than an hour for teams to triangulate the location of the asteroid impact site & for search teams to arrive on site. Once there it was not difficult to find the crate. As it was sitting precisely where the calculations indicated a massive crater should be.
Even stranger, the box was somehow tapping into the Clan's private HoloNet (something that should have been impossible) & sending a signal. It was the work of a few moments to determine that the message was aimed at the personal communicator of the Aliit'alor. It was also quickly discovered that no-one else could open the strange box.
They could, however, move it. Before much longer, the box was on a transport shuttle heading back to the capital of Middle Beach. There to be heavily probed before waiting on the personal attention of Aya.

After breaking away from the comet it rode in on, the yorik-trema "Erupted Boil" fell towards the coast of one of the larger archipelagos, dropping unceremoniously like a rock towards the surface. Dovin Basal propulsion guided it over the ocean where it slowed, eventually coming to hover over the waves, allowing the salty brine to tickle its underside. Arrest tentacles released their load, unlatching from a Vangaak previously bonded to its exterior, allowing the organic water trawler to slip beneath the blue surface. After the Yuuzhan Vong version of a submarine disappeared from sight, Jarulek Anor reactivated the dovin basal propulsion, guiding the ship towards the coast via the cognition hood he wore over his head.
He watched the surface through the eyes of the vessel itself, the symbiotic link between pilot and ship almost allowed the Intendant to become one with the Erupted Boil. Jarulek eased the organic vessel towards a rocky outcrop near the beach, bringing the ship low enough to pass under a shore side cliff into a cavern formed by the tide. Six spindly legs emerged from the sides of the yorik-trema and entered the shallow water, descending a meter before connecting with the stone floor, then quite literally walked the craft forwards into the coastal cave system.
Hooks of bone unclipped themselves from the Intendant's flesh as he removed the cognition hood, turning in his seat to regard Loraine and Vandred. The Executor's mqaaq'it glowed a dim green hue as he readjusted to using them as opposed to seeing through the ship's eyes. When he spoke his voice was coarse and pointed. "This looks like a good spot." He said, obviously referring to the cave system the ship was in.
"Temporarily, at least." Replied Loraine before continuing. "We may need to expand later on, but for now I ought to be able to set up a bio-lab and begin processing samples, once you have brought me something to work with."
Easier said then done. They didn't know anything about the inhabitants of this planet other than that there had been some signs of sentient life. What that looked like, they couldn't say. Would they even be an appropriate shape for the ooglith masquers to create a replica of? Or would the team need to entirely avoid any form of detection. Many answers to discover.
"Indeed. Begin setting up your lab. I will find your samples in short order." Jarulek stood, rising like a lithe jaguar in his midnight blue cloaker. He picked up an identically coloured length of robeskin from the seat he had been on and placed it over his head and back like a long cloak, leaving only his sneering face exposed. Scouting and procuring samples was his responsibility, as security was Vandred's and the studying of the planet's inhabitants fell to Loraine. "I should be back within a day, possibly two. If you haven't heard from me by a third, assume the worst."
Vandred, the warrior caste among them, snorted at the comment. He didn't have anything to offer at this point, so he remained quiet. He much agreed though that the Intendant was better suited to slinking around. Jarulek stepped past the subaltern and opened the yorik-trema's hatch sphincter. A molleung worm extended to the shallow waters of the cave and allowed the Intendant to disembark. He began to make his way towards the beach.

Jarulek walked through the knee deep coastal tide, emerging from the cavern near the beach, noting the darkening sky as night was beginning to descend upon the land. He carefully scaled the rock where the mouth of the cave opened up, climbing the sheer cliff face as opposed to strolling over to the beach. It was the harder route to follow and his muscles protested as he lifted himself up, one foot and hand after another, but it was also a better option than taking the beach. It wouldn't make much sense to conceal their presence if he was then going to leave footprints in the sand. So he climbed, and climbed some more, until finally he had reached the top and pulled himself up over the edge. Beyond the coast he could see the land was rocky and green, not lush certainly, but there was enough foliage to sustain a species. He stood up after taking a moments rest and looked around the area, allowing his mqaaq'it implants to zoom in and out, scanning the terrain for any signs of structure or sentient life.
There didn't appear to be anything nearby, which was keeping with what the Erupted Boil's scans had suggested when they first picked their landing site. Still, it meant he was destined for more of a walk than he had hoped for.
Reaching up to his pointed ear, the Intendant thumbed the lobe and activated the hidden nerve connected to a villip implanted in his brain. The communications device allowed him to stay in contact with the rest of the team. Words imagined in his mind were translated into audio on the other end. So while he remain cloaked in silence, back at the ship, his voice could be heard.
Alpha site perimeter appears clear. Moving to Beta site next.
Done checking in, he deactivated the villip and headed inland, all the while keeping a sharp eye on his surroundings.

It was on that first night that Jarulek came across his first pair of natives. He lay on a rocky outcrop above a narrow canyon that seemed to run on for some ways. His mqaaq'it were zoomed in to their maximum setting as he watched what appeared to be a duo of Rakatan hunters. They appeared to be stalking some form of prey through the canyon, occasionally bending down to examine animal tracks or trampled shrubbery. Both were armed with spears. The Intendant's eye implants zoomed out and he pulled himself over the lip of the canyon, flipping as he dropped to land in a crouch on a lower rocky platform. From there he sprung forwards into a leap that carried him to the other side of the canyon where he ran against the worn stone until gravity got the better of him and he was forced to leap again, doing the same on the other side as he closed the distance between himself and the pair of hunters.
As he neared, they had their backs to him, never thinking that they were being hunted themselves. Right when he was practically on top of the pair, he stopped running and let the momentum carry him the last few meters as he fell, dropping right behind the pair. Though possessing a great deal of stealth, the noise from the drop was enough to cause the hunters to turn. In a quick series of strikes, the Intendant drove his fist into one of the Rakatan's throats, then finished the other off with a snap kick to the head. They collapsed in a pile, one knocked unconscious while the other struggled to breath through a crushed windpipe.
Bringing back both had never been an option. He simply couldn't carry more than one at a time on his own.
Crouching down next to the rakatan struggling to breath, Jarulek removed the coufee from his hip sheath and plunged the bone blade into the alien's chest where he figured its heart organ should be. A startled bulge of its eyes was followed by a death croak as the creature died. The Intendant withdrew his coufee with a wet 'shink' and returned it to its organic sheath, which would clean the blade of blood before he drew it next. He then rolled the dead rakatan off the other and bound the remaining alien's hands and feet before hefting the unconscious creature up and over his shoulder.
"You're heavier than you look." He said with a grunt.
Jarulek then turned about and began to make the slow trek back towards basecamp.

After Jarulek returned with his captured specimen, Loraine Zun-qin got to work on collecting samples from the alien. Blood, hair, skin, bone marrow, saliva...quite literally everything you could expect from a mad scientist. Measurements were taken and calculations made. Soon vats were used to grow a new design of cloaker, this one for the intended purpose of looking like a rakata.

Vandred Carr was not amused. The subaltern member of the warrior caste stood in Loraine's hot lab, wearing a layer of bio-engineered skin that quite literally sealed itself to his naked flesh, becoming in some ways a part of him. His facial features could not be seen beneath the false face of a rakata he now wore, but if they could have been it was for certain the shaper adept would have been fixed with a look of utter contempt.
Disguises were more Jarulek's specialty. The ooglith masquer designed to replicate the appearance and genetic markers of a rakata was a necessary evil, he understood, but it served as a poor substitute for vonduun crab armour.
"It looks right." Said Loraine and she examined the suit of living skin Vandred wore. "There should be a reflex you can trigger to make the eyes blink. That will be important to convincing the natives that your just another rakata."
"I won't be wearing this when I meet them." He snarled.
Loraine grinned, or performed as close to such a thing as a Yuuzhan Vong could. It appeared more of a sneer.
"Now, now, never say never. Besides, you fill that skin out better than the Intendant. He's much too thin."
Fighting down black bile rising in his throat, Vandred reached to the secret release trigger behind the ear of the ooglith masquer and stroked the reflex found there, causing the layer of skin to begin to peel from his true flesh. A wet squelch sounded as the bio-engineered skin suit came away into a molted ball in the subaltern's right hand.
"We're done here." He growled, tossing the ball of bound flesh to the shaper before storming off.
She caught it with a mocking scoff. A part of her wanted to call after Vandred teasingly but it wouldn't do well to push the warrior too far. They tended to break things when they got angry, and she was just starting to get her lab in order.

A lone figure stood on cliff next to the shore, peering down at the waves crashing against the rocks, sounding like thunder as they rolled in at high tide. The cavern connecting to the temporary base they had established was concealed at this time of day, the water having risen well above the lip of the entrance and denying the Intendant access unless he was prepared to go for a swim. He wasn't, not with the undertow that would likely see him drowned. He looked up and watched the storm clouds rolling in, a tropical hurricane was forming out in the dark waters near the equator. Something caught the attention of his mqaaq'it ocular implants as he stared, a thing glowing bright against the dark grey gloom of nature's fury. A ball of flame struck the ocean far out from shore, shrieking in its descent, kicking up a large crest of waves that spread out and buffeted the cliff face. He could see the water boil and hiss where the flaming thing had struck, leaving nothing to see but bubbles as it submerged beneath the surface of the ocean.
Taking a knee, the Executor operated the villip implanted in his brain and spoke with the other members of the forward team, still within the currently blocked cavern system. They informed Jarulek that Commander Alith Yin had made contact and provided them with additional resources. Apparently the flaming ball had been a damutek, which was now on its way to the sea floor where it would take root and provide them a new space from which to operate. Closing communications, the Intendant lowered himself to the ground and laid on his back, staring up at the stormy sky above. Rain pelted his cloaker, absorbed for its nutrients by the secondary layer of skin, while the rest was expelled as waste. Jarulek closed his eyes and rested there.
When the tide was low he would re-enter the cave system and rejoin the team. No doubt they were eager to move operations to the new location being established. Until then there was not much else to do. And so he napped.

When low tide finally came, Jarulek descended the cliff face and dropped the last few feet into the thigh high waters of the beach. He entered the cave system the team was using as a temporary base, wading through the salty brine that threatened to dry out the cloaker he wore like a layer of second skin. His mqaaq'it had no problem peering through the dark tunnels and he easily traced his way back. Loraine and Vandred could be seen as he arrived, appearing to load the last of the supplies aboard the yorik-trema that they had arrived on. He waved to them and stepped into the lambent light of the cavern clearing.
"Almost ready?" Jarulek asked, mostly ignoring the subaltern while he focused on the shaper adept.
Loraine of Domain Zun-qin looked up from her labours and smiled at the intendant, or at least performed the Yuuzhan Vong approximation of a smile. It would have appeared a harsh sneer to many of the infidel races but to the mqaaq'it of the Executor, it could only be described as beautiful. He could not deny there was an attraction there, though he wasn't yet sure if it was reciprocated by the shaper. Since the aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, the rules regarding intermixing of castes had been eased and there was no one in the Praetorite that would openly deny them a relationship, if they were to pursue such a thing. It still felt a bit taboo though and Jarulek had more important things on his plate than getting his coufee wet, if you catch my meaning.
"Almost." She replied. "I wish they had provided a damutek from the start. It would have saved us precious time."
True, moving the base now was costing them time and making for double the work, but once they were situated in their new base beneath the sea, they would be able to operate in at least a somewhat safer capacity. He very much doubted that any of the rakata would be swimming to the bottom of the ocean any time soon. From what he had seen they appeared mostly primitive, still in the hunter/gatherer stage of their evolution. If someone had told the intendant that they had once controlled an Empire that covered the length of the galaxy, he would have been hard pressed to believe it. But time changes all things and species either evolved or stagnated and were lost to time.

After the temporary base had been dissembled and loaded aboard the 'Erupted Boil', Jarulek situated himself in the pilot's throne, sliding down the cognition hood hanging overhead until its hooked protrusions pierced his skin and nestled into his flesh. Within moments his senses expanded beyond his own body and were enhanced by the yorik-trema he now shared a symbiotic link with. Its eyes were his eyes, its hull his flesh, its dovin basals were wings upon which he could soar across the heavens. It took a calculating will to ignore the sense of transcendence and focus on the task at hand. Behind him in the rear compartment was the warrior Vandred Carr and the shaper Loraine Zun-qin. The intendant activated the organic vessels dovin basals and manipulated the forces of gravity to hover the craft above the cavern floor. As it lifted from the floor, segmented spindly legs that served as landing gear began to retract into the ball of molted flesh, while the long whip like tail that trailed behind it began to lash from side to side. Within moments the ship was slowly drifting through the cavern tunnels, until it emerged from the cliff side opening at the beach.
Soaring across the vast expanse of water, the ship left a wake in the waves as it zipped towards its destination. Once a fair ways out, Jarulek maneuvered the craft down, dipping nose first into into the water and then disappeared beneath the dark depths. He followed the organic beacon beamed from the damutek at the ocean's bottom, descending deeper and deeper, dodging coral growth and forests of seaweed. Eventually through the yorik-trema's visual sensors he was able to make out the exterior lambent light of the living building, reducing speed as he came in to a large opening on the southern side. As the ship passed through an oval shaped opening, the fleshly walls behind them began to retract and seal the outer hatch-sphincter. Sea water was suctioned out of the bay and pumped back into the ocean, while oxygen replaced it, manufactured by the organic buildings own massive lungs.
When it was safe to disembark, Jarulek set the ship down on its segmented legs and released a molleung worm from the rear compartment to the bay floor, serving as an organic boarding ramp. The two in the back were the first off, followed shortly by the intendant after he removed the cognition hood and exited the craft behind them.

It hadn't taken the team long to acclimatize themselves to their new base. Loraine Zun-qin locked herself away in her shaping lab, no doubt continuing to work on her rakata ooglith masquer design. They already had a working prototype model but the shaper caste were something of known perfectionists. She wouldn't be satisfied until it was flawless. Vandred Carr had taken over one of the empty bays and was using it to spar with his fellow warrior caste, passing the time in the only way they knew how. As for Jarulek, well, he did what intendants always seemed to do. He made plans and he schemed, and then he schemed some more.
The Executor was in the process of piecing together an exploratory mission to infiltrate one of the major settlements on the planet. Several Vangaak were currently being prepared for that very thing. They were loaded with supplies and as well as a number of Loraine's prototype. The Intendant's team also didn't consist of any of Vandred's warrior caste, as they tended to lack the subtlety required for a job of this type. A dozen of them lingered about the launch bay, checking and rechecking their biots, playing games of chance, and occasionally taking a few practice thrusts with their coufee blades.
They lacked a certain dark sensibility and bitterness that he was used to, which made sense when he considered the fact that these intendants had come from domains Skell and Anor. Jarulek had spent too long amongst members of Domain Yin, some of that pessimism had rubbed off on him.

Location: Lehon's Ocean - Praetorite Damutek
Within the shaping laboratory within the underwater organic building, Shaper Adept Loraine Zun-Qin was hard at work perfecting her latest version of the rakatan ooglith masquer. Clad in a satin coloured oozhith and marked with a number of elegant tattoos, she was considered beautiful among her kind. Occasionally she wore a headress, but it tended to get in the way of her vision as she worked so she hadn't apted to wear it at this time. Long dark hair ran from her scalp down to almost her waist, braided and strewn with small decorative biots. As she worked, the villip choir in one corner of the lab began to chime. She looked at the communications biot quizically. She hadn't been expecting a call. No doubt it was probably Vandred with another one of his lectures on the current security practices of the damutek. Scowling, she gracefully walked over to the choir and took a seat, gently stroking the device to active it. A molted ball of flesh transfigured itself into a three dimensional representation of Prefect Shareed Yin's head. Loraine raised a tattooed brow in surprise.
"Prefect, I wasn't expecting to hear from you. How fairs the seed world?"
All is well with Zonama Sekot. He replied. And Lehon?
"Wet." She said simply with a coy smile, the light blue eye sacs beneath her mqaaq'it puffed slightly.
Indeed. I'm afraid this isn't a social call.
Of course not. It never was.
"Oh, how disappointing. How many I be of assistance, Prefect?"
The Praetorite requires your aid in the resumption of the Slayer Project.
She blinked in surprise. The Slayer Project had been decreed forbidden along with most of the other projects initiated by the former Supreme Overlord, Shimrra Jamaane.
"I was under the impression that our illustrious leader was not partial to that particular project. Unless..."
The request does not come from him. I am asking you to perform this task.
Curious. A member of Domain Yin, let alone some one as highly ranked as a Prefect, going behind the Executor's back. Now he really had her attention.
"I am only an adept. Perhaps Master Shaper Mira Yim would be better suited to the task."
There was a short pause before Shareed replied.
No. Mira is fiercely loyal to the Executor. She would bring this to his ear immediately.
Her mqaaq'it flickered red. "And you are saying I am less loyal?"
Not less, simply more open minded. Nem only despises the project because it was Shimrra's. His reluctance is denying us a useful resource out of nothing more than spite. The benefit of this project to the Praetorite is substantial. The Executor will come to see that, after we've made some results. His eye sacs bulged. I ask you not to do this for me, but for the good of the Praetorite. Besides, I'm told you like a challenge.
His spies were well informed. She loved a challenge.
"Very well, Prefect, I will do as you ask. This will require a great deal of discretion, as well as a number of test subjects."
Then it is a good thing you are in a secret base at the bottom on an ocean. As for your subjects, you shall have them. Anything else?
"Perhaps some more staff?"
No, no one else may no of this. For now this shall remain our little secret.

Shaper Adept Loraine Zun-Qin walked past rows of nutrient tanks within the shaping lab of the damutek, occasionally leaning over to examine the blaze bug readouts and cross-analyzing the information with what she had on her personal qahsa device. Things had progressed quickly since the Prefect had given her access to the additional cortexes. It begged the question whether those of her caste ranked above her were actually more qualified or if they simply had access to more information. With what she had available to her now, she felt confident she could give even Mira Yim a run for her credits. She stopped at the last tank and peered inside. Within the thick nutrient fluid that fed and supported growth, floated a small embryo, just as in all the other tanks. Loraine tapped translucent membrane of the pod, releasing a cascade of bubbles that quickly rose to the top.
"Maturation is progressing nicely." She spoke out loud to herself. "Only a 0.74 percent deviation from the source material."
The most difficult part was remaining patient. It would be months before augmentation would be able to commence in earnest.

In one dark corner of the shaping laboratory, two red orbs blinked into existence, glaring at Shaper Adept Loraine Zun-Qin from the shadows. Mqaaq'it ocular implants watched the female Yuuzhan Vong as she worked, while rank steam seeped from between yellow teeth as the hidden figure's black blood ran hot. He stepped from his concealed position and came into view beneath the lambent lighting of the lab. A long dark coat of robe skin ran from the collar around his neck down to almost his ankles, trailing hooks of bone and strewn with writhing veins. This was worn over a glossy black cloaker body suit, skin sealed to reveal an almost lithe form with the lean muscularity of a bissop on the prowl. The Yuuzhan Vong's face was exposed, bald of head and sharing the grey pallor of a corpse. A coarse voice, harsh and bitter, broke the solemn quiet of the shaperate.
"Loraine..." Hissed Nem through clenched teeth. "What have you done?"

She snapped on her heels as she heard an unexpected voice intrude on what she thought was her solitude. As she whirled around, her oozith sweeping the floor as she turned, her own ocular implants came to rest of the Executor of the Praetorite, Nem Yin. Her mouth was agape in mild surprise, then opened wider as she realized the implication of his presence in her lab. She glanced at the tanks of nutrient fluid containing the embryos of future slayers. Ah yes, how best to explain this? There was no good answer. She met the Intendant's furious gaze, attempting to appear as calm and collected as was possible given the situation. Loraine refused to show fear.
"Executor, I was not expecting you." Clearly. "Did you just arrive?"

Was she attempting to dodge the question? He swallowed down bile rising in his throat as he tried to contain his fury, but it continued to run hot like freshly spilled blood, bleeding red over everything. The Intendant took a step forwards, followed by another, his intense gaze never leaving the shaper. Bones popped in his hands as he squeezed, cracking his knuckles.
"Your insolence does not amuse me, shaper." He stated spitefully.
And once he stepped within range he cocked back his left arm across his chest and flung it outwards, attempting to backhand the female Yuuhan Vong across the face while he shouted, showering her with foaming spittle.
"I demand an answer! What's is that in the tanks?!"

Loraine took the blow across the face and staggered, dropping to a knee while she brought one of her shaping hands to her face and felt for damage. A trickle of black blood oozed from one corner of her lip. She lapped at it with her tongue, savoring the richness of her own life fluids. Despite the damage, she wasn't that perturbed by the strike and pain that followed. She was Yuuzhan Vong after all. Rising back to her feet, she faced the Executor and shrugged her shoulders defiantly.
"You already know what's in the tanks. You have eyes the same as I. They are future slayers, a weapon to be utilized against our enemies."

Snarling, Nem pushed past her and approached one of the tanks, glaring daggers at the forming embryo inside. Part of him wanted to reach out and smash the tank and spill its contents on the floor, but it was too early for that yet. He wanted an explanation. Why did it seem as though everyone beneath him was openly acting against him? The defiance was baffling to him. He placed a hand against the tank and bowed his head, closing his eyes as he rubbed at his throbbing forehead with his free hand.
"I have made my feelings on this project well known, Loraine. Why do you defy me?"

She turned as he walked past her to stand by one of the nutrient tanks. Concerned for the well being of her project, Loraine watched him carefully, fearful he might destroy what she had been working on before her very eyes. Cautiously she took a step closer to him, not quite reaching out to the Intendant but making her proximity to him felt by tone and volume.
"It is not defiance, per say, Executor. I saw an opportunity to recreate a potential weapon for our people. I did this for the Praetorite, you must know that."

So she did this for the Praetorite? Bah! Did she take him for a fool? When he had sent the team to Lehon it wasn't out of a desire to have them design weapons for future conquest or even defense. It was to further their knowledge of the planet, increase their scientific awareness, and assess the site for possible settlement. Weapons were the furthest thing from his mind.
Nem turned on her and threw his arms out to the sides, palms splayed towards the ceiling as his voice rose once more.
"I am the Praetorite!" He shouted violently. "My will is law and this heresy..."
It was not a word he used often, given that in truth he was a heretic himself, an atheistic Yuuzhan Vong if ever there was such a thing. But it was necessary to get his point across.
"...will not stand. I would sooner see them launched into the nearest star than to ever make use of these...things."

Her lips peeled back as her polished white teeth ground together, anger and frustration rising in her heart in equal measure. When she replied it was with venom in her tone, deliberately spiteful.
"Spoken like a true Supreme Overlord, Nem. Or do you prefer Yu'shaa?"
It was almost immediately after she uttered those words of disrespect that she regretted them. Not for any fear she might have felt for her own well-being, though she was still uncertain whether she would leave here alive. Her regret was that it was unfair of her to compare the strained and clearly stressed Executor with their former religious dictator. To his credit, the Intendant had gone above and beyond in securing a future for their people, even if it was a vision they didn't all share. She applauded his efforts even if they didn't always agree on policy.
