Unified command structure for law enforcement, emergency response, food and drug regulations, domestic military forces, and anything else that concerns the safety and security of citizens and visitors on Dressel.

The Ministry of Internal Security has two primary responsibilities and a rather broad mandate. They are responsible for the health and safety of the public, and from the surface on up to the outer edge of the atmosphere, they have final oversight over both. Internally, the MIS is broken down into several different departments. This is only natural, since the Departments of Law Enforcement and Food and Drug Standards are wildly dissimilar. Having a unified top-level command structure keeps the various departments from working at cross-purposes, but for the most part, the brass keeps their fingers out of the day to day running. A Law Enforcement Officer, for instance, may safely perform his duties without having to worry about a bureaucrat with a background in FDS second guessing his decision to shoot a criminal.
Otherwise, the individual Departments are fairly independent, with clearly defined areas of responsibility. When overlap occurs, cooperation is encouraged, and the sort of jurisdictional pissing matches that make cop dramas so interesting are largely nonexistent. Criminals learn very quickly just how this sort of cooperation can lead to a rapid and devastating escalation of force. The time from the first "shots fired" report to the arrival of a Dresselian Defense Force Heavy Assault Team is often less than an hour. Likewise, the Department of Infectious Disease Control can, in the unlikely event of an outbreak, rely on a coordinated response from all levels to contain the situation.
Departments and agencies that fall under the MIS include but are not limited to: Department of Law Enforcement Department of Infectious Disease Control Department of Food and Drug Standards Department of Emergency Response
Counter Terrorism Agency Elections Security Agency Atmospheric Aviation Agency
Of special note is the Dresselian Defense Force, which is the domestic branch of the military.
