I COME BEARING MORE COOKIES FOR THE ALMIGHTY WHILLS!! **Lays tray of cookies before their feet.** And I would humbly ask for their wisdom in regards to this question: What is the current Star Date....**ahem** I mean year? For RP purposes.

There isn't one, technically. Ever since the beginning of JvS, there's been a lack of a timeline, allowing players to write in whichever era they wish. It seems a bit confusing but it's seemed to work out fine so far. Personally, I tend to be ambiguous but am only clear that my timeline is post Yuuzhan Vong at least, and it seems like most people are the same, if that helps.

We should split the site into a selection of different time zones. Old-Republic, Pre-Empire, Empire, Post-Empire. Or something like that. That might allow for an actual timeline and some structure without hampering peoples' ability to free write in any era. Or we could decide on a timeline and relegate anything outside that to the Journal of the Whills. Off-time SL's (Old Republic era, etc) normally take place in closed RP anyways, from what I've observed.

For myself I run off of something I read from a Stephen King book. Time is really really thin. So thin these days that different time periods are interacting. You've got Rakatans interacting with Vong. Ships from the old republic fighting things piloted by Imperial Knights. The galaxy is dissolving into chaos as it slowly ends and time is thrown off it's accsess making dates pointless.

I go with a sightly more science-y version of the above. For my character, it is technically about 80 ABY, however somethings have changed from 'base-line' EU. First more people have bothered to keep older models of ship up to date (replacing shields, weapons, drives, etc as newer/better versions come out & factories updating & selling 'classic' designs using modern parts). Second, 'dead' species either had surviving pockets re-discovered (Pureblood Sith, etc) or were recreated using cloning tech & data recovered from various sources (Rakata, etc). Finially, things that shouldn't be around yet (Pells, Imperial Knights, etc) just got made/founded a little earlier than in EU.
